Hmm, perhaps so. While I'd prefer original cases, the thought of cases like 2-4, fully animated, is certainly something I wouldn't say no to.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I've been reading different interpretations from different sources. Is it a strict adaptation of the cases from the original trilogy, or just based on that period in the series' timeline?

Funnily enough, I've been imagining 'episode names' for each segment of the games.
That said, if each segment did have one episode, then the first game alone would be 27 episodes counting Rise from the Ashes (if not, 17 episodes). JFA would have 22 episodes, and T&T - 23 episodes.
If they decide to go beyond that (with a second season or so), AJ - 19 episodes, and DD - 22 episodes counting the DLC case (if not, 17 episodes).
Counting the spinoffs, AAI would have 22 episodes, AAI2 - 26 episodes, and DGS - 21 episodes.
That said, if they're planning to adapt the first three games in one season, at least 2 cours are needed, and even then I'd bet they'd cut or combine a bunch of stuff from the cases just to fit it, and I have the feeling they won't go beyond that. I hope they split it to a couple of seasons.

Alright, guess my (already not very credible) source can be discarded, then! Though, it did give us a slightly better picture of the stage and backdrop. It could be used as the header image in the first post, perhaps.

Well, off the top of my head, the Danganronpa one was 12 Episodes and cut out a lot of the freetime events (which are technically optional to begin with) and condensed the story a lot, so some things were not as blindingly easy to connect as it was in the game.

For some reason, I agree about AJ so much. When I first heard the news (a friend informed me) I was crossing my fingers for a continuation of Apollo's story to run alongside Phoenix's (in the games). Yeah, for some reason, the style of AJ seems fit for anime. Don't know why.
Even though it'll be Phoenix and no original cases, I'm hyped. Any publicity for this game is good, after all. This could be either catastrophic or amazing. Here's to hoping it's not 11-13 episodes!
Sidenote: If they dub it, will Sam Riegel reprise his role as Phoenix?

truly do hope they don't screw this up regardless of what they do with the series...either way i cant imagine they wont at least do cases 1-1 and 1-2 since they both introduce the reoccurring characters of the first game but from there its anyone game, especially if they decide to do all three games in the series.

Idk, I've always seen everyone of tumblr be like "Ace Attorney needs an anime!" but I've always been really ehh about the idea. Maybe it's because I couldn't watch more than 25 minutes of the Movie without falling asleep, but I just don't think Ace Attorney would be very fun to watch. If it's an adaptation, then the extremely small sliver of hope I have is lost. I've seen enough game/visual novel adaptations to know that most of them go horribly wrong. If it's got original cases, then it might be OK.
Either way, this'll need a really amazing director and overall staff to make it work.

On one hand, it'd be great for Capcom to not take charge of this production in the slightest, since they should be focused on making new games. On the other hand, DR's anime was pretty bleh; not that horrible, but still pretty mediocre.
