Spoiler: notice young Payne

AJ:AA Payne said otherwise. Hey i like that idea that he ran away from the counry and arrived in this one..only to face Phoenix again.

Yeah, I'm 99% sure that was Gaspen Payne in the trailer, not Winston Payne. He's got the exact same hairdo from DD.

Well then tell us the truth about how to explain his phenomenon that we just got now.

Ok jokes over. Cautiously becomes disappointed with lacks of those 2 and how water mirror becomes somewhat like mix between 2 and getting upgraded.

Wish thise 2 would come sooner any moment.

Wow, Phoenix sounds really demanding. His movements are a little weird, but he looks way better than in DD. The princess looks seriously off. The water mirror may prove itself to add an interesting dynamic to the trials. But... Phoenix just barging into the courtroom and defending although he's not allowed to? It's GK2-Edgeworth all over again. "Who cares I don't have the right to do this, I'm gonna find the TRUTH, it's my paaath."

Well now that you've said it I'm thinking that too. Now I want fanfic on how exactly that happened.

That does bring up a good question: How old is Leifa? She seems to be the ruler of the country (at least until further notice), so she could be Nick's age and just look really young. That's nothing new for this series.

On the other hand, another tradition is to have super young people in improbable positions, so for all we know, Princess Kurain could be twenty and have been ruling since she was fifteen or something.

Of course, all of this is based on an assumption, so I could be totally wrong..

Yeah, but it was also possible that she used われわれ and I just missed the second れ xP

Gave the trailer another go with headphones. I still think the objection theme is a shame but the coda has already grown on me. I got chills, so that's a good sign!

Also, I actually really like the concept of the spirit mirror... but only in concept so far. Mood Matrix was kind of whatever to be honest and I thought that sounded interesting, and this... to be honest, it looks like, mechanically it's just sort of like the Bracelet but with multiple answers sort of. Seeing the murder firsthand as the victim -- and in realtime 3D no less! -- is an excellent idea to build mysteries with, especially since the suspend disbelief aspect has already been suspended a lot by the original trilogy (we get it now! There are spirits and ghosts and magic is totally plausible in this series).

There's not much to go on yet, but I'll just cross my fingers that localizing this rather than DGS wasn't a huge mistake.

I think the thing that remains which makes me want DGS more just by the presentation (because I understand literally none of japanese) is the artstyle. Characters look fine here, but the backgrounds and environmental design just looks boring, whereas I felt PLvPWAA and DGS have extraordinary locales and places I want to be in without even knowing the plot (in DGS's case). I just hope when we get beyond case 1 that the locations become more interesting (but knowing Yamazaki it just means we're going out there!)

Speaking of that mirror, back when DD was first announced, we got an image of Apollo using Revisualization with the mention of a certain "lullaby" that never made it into the final release. Now I'm wondering if it's going to be making a return somehow in a later case. Certainly, it won't be in the first one, since we already have another "song" that was playing during the victim's final moments.

Still, the entire deal with that seems suspiciously distinct. I suppose the victim so happened to faint before they died and was left with that image of Bokto, but I really hope that's not going to be the case for the others. Even for Yamazaki, that'd be pushing it.

It's an interesting concept all the same, anyway.

You're thinking about Franziska's older sister. From what I heard she does indeed have a daughter, which would be the granddaughter Manfred talked about in 1-4.

So wait, are we saying that Leifa is this first granddaughter, or a second granddaughter by Maya and Franziska?

I'm having way too much fun with this insane theory. :gant:

Funny you say that, since the verb for "to rain" and "rain" are completely different.

That said, dropping off a bridge and dropping from one's chopsticks may be said in a very similar way.

I know the sentences are actually completely different in Japanese, just let me make my joke in peace :yani-fist:

(and rain alone is just 雨, but to rain is 雨が降る, so you still have the あめ in there. it all still works at the most basic (and intended) level!)

Remember that interview with Yamazaki upon DD's release where he discussed dropped and "embarrassing" ideas, like "Why was the doll murdered?" and "a floating courtroom"? That's the vibe I'm getting with this, putting in some of the more crazy ideas they had for DD, I mean. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the final case takes place in a courtroom inside a spirit-realm or something! :meekins:

I'm still hoping for the best with this one, so far I did like every entry in the series, ones more than others but enjoyed them all so far so this shouldn't be an exception :yogi:

Let' see if they can get some original twist for each case with the mirror thing.

I was wondering, will each case have Nick go against this oracle girl? Cause she seems like a huge threat and if she just loses in case one...

That got me thinking that it would be a neat spin on things if Nick actually lost the tutorial case (but I don't think that'll happen because I think the boy will be his assistant for the game). Then I was thinking that maybe the first case isn't the first chronologically and we might have to deal with some cases in Japanifornia first. But then I was thinking that they wouldn't do that because the water mirror will probably be a gimmick in every case so now I don't know what to think :/

I kind of wish the new gameplay additions would just vary up the gameplay rather than actually change the direction of the game (like how the Mood Matrix made it so Athena was either your partner or the playable character in every case. And will the Mood Matrix even be back? Like it wouldn't be the biggest deal to me if it was gone but I thought it would at least come back with some modifications or something. It seems even weirder to just ditch it completely and only have it as a gimmick for a single game (but then again, that's probably what the water mirror is for this game))

I wonder what the original interview text was, because to me, it sounds more like Yamazaki just made a reference to one of the best known mystery novels from Japan. Which is not a very bad thing.

I think the article failed to reference it in a footnote, but obviously Yamazaki was just trying to build a case inspired by it. I'm always intrigued when you guys bring that novel up :P

Well, the plot sounds interesting, although I hope there's a little more to it, but knowing how the news for DD was slowly released I'm sure there will be.

A lot of people are critical of the whole "Phoenix goes to another country and defends in court" idea a little ridiculous, but I like it as long as its done in a way that explains it/justifies it. It's really not any different than Edgeworth getting involved in investigating every single case that happens within a mile radius around him.

The Kingdom of Kurain thing is interesting, although it seems a little strange since I seem to remember Kurain village being based around the Fey clan's channeling rather than a country or anything. If I play JFA soon I'll look more carefully at the discussion to see how much of a stretch this is. Even though I wasn't someone who thought "Maya NEEDS to come back", if this is the setting than I think it wouldn't make sense to have her not show up. Hopefully they really change/alter/develop her character for this game (like AJ-era Phoenix, probably without the "fallen on hard times spin" though based on DD) rather than just give us a clone of her OT character. Also, PLEASE don't make her the defendant again (with VS it's up to 4 times now). I think it would be much more interesting to have her as a witness, one that might even disagree with Nick on the real killer. It would be great to have them give us something new and different with the character.

I'm also curious as to why the Kingdom of Kurain is spelled with Katakana in this game

Zekrom025 wrote:
I'll admit, the water mirror looks promising, and is probably the only thing I'm looking forward to (though wouldn't it be more convenient to outright channel the victim? I think that would be a lot more interesting personally...)

I think from a story perspective you're right, but from a gameplay perspective it seems like channeling would just end up a traditional testimony thing. It would all boil down to Phoenix disproving the spirit's testimony, which doesn't give any new gameplay and the active player in that would be the medium, not the player. Surface-level as it might seem, every AA game has had a "gimmick" after the 1st one. (GS2: Psyche-locks, GS3: Multiple Lawyers, GS4: Perceive, AAI: Investigations, AAI2: Logic Chess, and DD: Thought Route and Mood Matrix.) The mirror is just the next gimmick.

Regarding the empty bench, I'm not convinced that will actually be there before Pheonix's first trial. I think it's just something used for dramatic effect in the trailer "Where's the attorney?". I'm sure at some point they'll comedic-ly bring out the bench.

I'm not crazy about the new Phoenix theme. I always felt the T&T version was weak but I loved the DD version. I feel like reusing themes made sense in DD because that was the big "return of GS" game where everybody showed up after a hiatus. Now, though, (especially if Phoenix ends up being the only playable lawyer), it seems weird to keep using it. I'd prefer a new theme at this point.

I also agree that it's a little disappointing that Apollo and Athena haven't been seen yet, but I'm not too concerned for two reasons: firstly, we didn't see any sign of Apollo in DD until 6 months after the TGS 2012 announcement, and secondly it seems that it would be a more "AA" story to have the Wright "family" go on a vacation together than have Phoenix simply go by himself. I don't necessarily think that Apollo and Athena will have a huge role, but I bet we'll see them.

I also see why people are disappointed in Phoenix being the central playable character, and I always feel that a bit since I have more nostalgia for Apollo, but I want Phoenix to be in that role from now on simply because it looks like that's the only way to get these games localized. Maybe they'll figure out a way to make a game where Phoenix isn't that important but is in it enough to call it a "Phoenix Wright" game (I feel like they could have even gotten away with calling AJ that even). Also, as much as I love a lot of the characters, I mainly play AA for the mysteries/investigation/law gameplay, so honestly I don't care too much who I play as.

I still prefer the DD team's "sprite-lookalike" graphics vs the VS/DGS graphics with smooth movement. The AA have always been really fast-paced to me, and I read really fast to I loved how the sprite would just change. a lot of the time during VS i'd be done with a sentence and it seemed weird that I'd have to wait for Nick's arm to get to where it needed to be (even if it was only a second). I prefer AA to kind of be a "comic book with blinking eyes", at least in court. It doesn't bother me as much during investigations.

Overall, though, it seems cool! I don't see any big issues and I'm looking forward to new info. I can why some are disappointed in this direction, and if this was the grand finale or the DD team was deciding this was the final chapter in a AJ-DD-GS6 trilogy I might be too. But I'm pretty sure this is going to be the JFA of the DD team's games, so I think a different, "separated story" from the main lore is perfectly acceptable.

P.S. I apologize for any spelling errors and the big spaces, I have a big bandage on my hand which makes it almost impossible to type.

It would be interesting if that is the case because unless the Great Ace Attorney had one (I don't know much about that game) this would be the first time that we had a male main assistant.

You know, for a website that's dedicated to ace attorney and thus logically filled with fans, this place seems to be the least interested in AA6. Even neogaf seems to be more excited than you guys.

I think what I'm noticing is that not a lot of you seem to be interested in alternative direction. You came up with ideas, writers ended up doing something quite frankly unpredicted (in a world where everyone complains about "playing it safe", I would hardly expect complaints about the opposite), and now you're very quick to reject the minimum amount of information provided. We know a basic setting and it's apparently enough for people to predict everything is bad.

I mean, that's what it seems. I'm not seeing much intrigue, just resentment over little information and differing perspective and ideas. Nobody seems to want to discuss what's at hand, just complain that it's not the alleged plot they wanted. That just seems silly.

Perhaps I'm just not seeing the same issues you are. But than I've played all played all the same stuff, and all of it. I just don't see the point in complaining about people writing things I myself didn't come up with. But then that's sort of the reason one reads other people's books, is it not?

LOL We're fans, it's what we do with series we love, we want it to be amazing, and live up to the standard that preceeds itself. My hype burned out when we got all this info in Famitsu 2 weeks ago. I was going crazy with joy! Most of us were expecting more from TGS, but TGS's trailer didn't give much new things. (As most of it was in famitsu and fans here had already digested it).

The issue I see is that this trailer had MUCH less than DD's. It lacked the sidekick, it lacked seeing more than 1 witness (We had Junie and Tonate in the first trailer, along with Athena, and the intro to the Mood Matrix). This one just had Bokuto, we got Leifa's name, and we got a glimpse at the new system. No new music, no iconic teasing of the new prosecutor, not even VA names were mentioned. (Apparently they're a 'secret') Even watching the livestream of some footage (when I wasn't being booted out by premium members) had no BGM, just some ambience for the water mirror segment. I cried inside I couldn't hear any of Iwadare's amazing new music...

Mind you, even with DD most people complained when the didn't see any Apollo in the first trailer, but low and behold he returned. If you're hyped that's awesome, don't lose it :basil: But if others aren't, that's just them, leave them be :butzthumbs:

I would also suggest that fact that the first DD trailer literally started with a bang would make that trailer more dramatic than Phoenix defending in a foreign country.

So someone translated the livestream Q&A of AA6 revealing a few more details:

- Medium vision allows a medium to see the last moments of victims, including sights, sounds, smells, feelings and more
- Prosecutor in the demonstration was Winston Payne.
- Mode demonstrated in gameplay shown by Lefia Padama Kurain, princess of the kingdom of Kurain, who channels the memories and senses of the victim
- Look at the water mirror in order to find contradictions in the victim's memories
- Goal is to keep looking for more contradictions in order to progress the trial
- During Q&A, the developers wouldn't say if Kingdom of Kurain was linked to Kurain Village, or if Maya Fey would be in the game

Edit: Disregard all.

To clarify what happened here - this was based off our tweets a few nights ago during the Famitsu stream. Due to a bit of misorganization, it wasn't made clear on the main site that it was going on, and we missed a wrap-up post. This article was written based off the tweets, though it got one detail flat wrong (it's Gaspen, not Winston, and we tweeted as such.)

Sorry for any confusion!

and I can't pinpoint where I've seen it, but that animation when Evil Maya bends her head and smirks... I know I've seen that somewhere before.

Ever since you've said that, it's been bugging me, because I kept seeing it too, but couldn't put my finger on it either!
And now suddenly it clicked for me! And I hope it's also the answer for you...

It's not at all the same, (heck, I see more differences than similarities) but that's the sprite I had in the back of my mind when I saw the Leifa smirk.

If that's not it for you, maybe it's this?

Please tell me I wasn't the only one!

Well, Manfred did have more children than Franziska. Even a grandchild I believe.

:While I doubt that they will go in this direction the Ace Attorney Wikia sates Karma's Granddaughter was born in the same year as Athena meaning that she would be about 18-19 at the time of this game. Does anyone know if Franziska used the term fool often in the Japanese version or if that was added to the English version? The reason I ask is because it Franziska did use the term fool as often as Lefia seems to (on top of the fact she could realistically be portrayed as a somewhat young looking 19 year old) that would be circumstantial evidence to support the out there theory that Lefia could be Manfred's granddaughter. Like I said I doubt it but it is an interesting idea that is at least plausible.

Yes, Franzy does use "fool" just as much in the JP version, but she uses the word "baka", not "oroka" or "shiremono", like Leyfa does here.

They are similar only in personality... so far, anyway.

Why is Takumi busying himself with a spin-off rather than handling the main series? He's just so talented I can't believe he didn't handle ALL of the AA games. I mean I do understand that would make him too busy but I just love the guy so much.

Takumi himself said that he felt that Phoenix's story was done and didn't want to work on further titles. Well, there was AJ, and look how that turned out.

If you read some of Takumi's interviews, it's easy to see that he's the kind of guy that likes experimenting and doing new things, rather than sticking with the same format for a long time. So the reason he's not in charge of the main series anymore is probably as simple as 'he doesn't want to'.
