Though the Sun and Rain game was disappointing because I couldn't play it properly. Got a preowned copy and one point of the game early on asks you for a secret password. I think the password was meant to be your birthday and you were meant to write it down in the manual and program it in the first time you booted it up.

Sadly the previous owner hadn't recorded the password so I was stuck with an unsolvable puzzle.

Don't know if you still have the game, but you probably misunderstood the first puzzle ^^' The very first time the game asks you to input your birthday (and tells you to check the manual if you don't know), is actually when you first program the birthday date (that's why the manual shows a 'blank' birthday)! You can input anything (that is an actual date, I think. So no 0000). I just tested it myself on a new save file on my own copy: first I tried my real birthday, then I reset the game again and tried 1111. Peter accepts everything as your birthday.

That date is used several times in the game afterwards, if I remember correctly, so you do need to remember it for later.

The whole game has pretty interesting puzzles, by the way. All puzzles are solved by numerical codes, and hints for most of the other codes are hidden within the text of the island travel guide you can read in-game. It requires a lot of careful and creative reading. But it's also a fairly flawed game. I'd recommend it to people who love puzzles though, even if it's a bit rough at times.

Oh wow xP I feel like such an idiot. If I'd even tried mashing anything in I would have been fine. Now I'm thinking about all the trouble I caused trying to ask for a refund for a game that was sold perfectly functioning and yet unplayable.

XD eh well shouldn't sweat too much over it but thanks for that. If I ever see a copy again I might try it now I know this.

Why are you calling it Sun and Rain? The Flower is super-important! I adore FSR, but usually I feel like I'm the only one on the internet who's ever actually played it...

I'm pretty sure Ash is right--you insert whatever you way for your birthday at the beginning, and then that's what the game counts as your birthday for the rest (although I only remember it being used one other time). FSR is definitely... something. There was some major video game website (I forget exactly which one) gave it a 3/10 and an Editor's Choice, which I think it actually the perfect way to describe it. From a technical standpoint it's really wonky, the story is nonsensical, and it's filled with aggravating design choices. But all of those things were done on purpose (to a certain extent), in order to make the experience what it is. FSR is a game only for people who like puzzles and don't mind being aggravated, but it certainly is something.

Spoiler: FSR
...I never found/figured out what the title meant at all, though. And it doesn't seem like it was really popular enough for the internet to figure it out either, since I can't seem to find the answer (in English or Japanese).

One of these days I need to get around to playing The Silver Case...

That's 3-5. (Joking, I know this is likely a typo - unless you're playing a version that removed 3-3, which they could easily do*)
* You don't need to know prior to 3-5 that Godot cannot see red on white stuff. It gets pretty dang obvious during the case, so basic logic tells you to make that connection.

Xillia 2 in Japanese on my PS3, finished Chapter 10 and am approaching Chapter 11-I DON'T WANT REGULAR MILLA IN MY PARTY! SHE'S BORING! I'd rather have obnoxious as fuck Tsundere Milla in my party...! Even with her whining at Ludger, like he enjoys removing fractured dimensions...

Also Pokémon Y... I stopped after Gym 6 because... the pacing sucks, the story sucks, it just gets boring for me once my pokémon reach Level 30... but I am starting new and decided to not use the EXP Share.

Also, my current Let's Play is the Koreon Dating Sim Nameless.

Jumped on the Undertale bandwagon. I'm currently at Snowdin having trouble with the Greater Dog. The humor a bit too Tumblr/Homestuck/faux-Earthbound for my taste, but the concept of defeating enemies without beating them up is interesting and some of the enemy solutions are pretty clever.

I'm not too sure what constitutes tumblr humour but the game is made by the guy who worked on Homestuck I think so...XD buyer beware I guess. You get what you paid for but glad to hear it's still got some interest for you.

Well I'm pretty sure it was intended to be. (I don't feel like discussing whether it succeeded, mostly because it's been a long time since I played it.)

But what I'm getting at is, Undertale gives me the impression that it's trying to be the new Earthbound while also pandering to a "culture" that most people outside that culture find obnoxious; there's spoopy scary skeletons, a character speaking in Comic Sans, funny dogs, weirdly structured sentences, puns etc. I guess this is kind of obvious though; Toby has composed for Homestuck and created at least two well-known Earthbound hacks.

I'm still enjoying it though, or I would have dropped it. It's actually really clever at times, like how it calls you out for save scumming and other forms of cheats.

Unless Undertale has a final boss that is an incomprehensible form, with the imprint of a fetus found during the movements and begins to spout lines that come from the memory of a traumatized kid that saw an R-Rated Scene in a movie when it was too young, which implies it was either a murder or rape scene... I doubt Undertale can be called to be similar to Earthbound. :kristoph:

It was the crime film Kenpei to Barabara Shibijin that inspired Itoi. It made quite an impression on the younger Itoi, even though his memories played quite some tricks on him (it was not a rape scene, and there was no real nudity). In the end, it doesn't really matter either way, because it's his memories that inspired the script, but still, even Itoi's own site that features the interview where he mentions that has a note that explicitly notes that Itoi's memories of the actual film aren't really accurate ^^'

I played all three MOTHER games last year for the first time, and enjoyed them quite overall, but it was quite clear they were not designed by a 'conventional' game creator, but by a copywriter. I don't know about the English translation, but the Japanese version was really funny and you could clearly see Itoi had a blast writing all the various characters with random character traits and conversation topics.

That's among the reasons why I prefer to play games in Japanese (or whatever original language they were made in). They have different ways of talking, with little dialects or tones that just can't be translated well into a different language. (Though there are times where a translation is better... I notice that with The Simpsons, sometimes I think the German translation is better - for example, the ghost of Beethoven and Mozart listening to music and Mozart saying 'I thought you couldn't hear' was better in German, because it was made into Mozart's home's usual dialect. 'Bist deppert's kannst doch nex hören')

Well, the incomprehensible form part is there, or at the very least, the fact that the final boss is disturbing is there.

I'm playing Resident Evil: Revelations. And by "playing," I mean "spamming the knife on the first boss since it can't hit you if you've been knocked down." This has been going on for ten minutes now. Hell, I'm typing this and still trying to kill it.
Edit: Oh hey, it finally died.

Finished Trauma Team (Wii) last night, which was fun! It's an entry in the Trauma Center series, but where previous games focused on surgery, this game focuses on six different specalists (in surgery, first response, orthopedics, endoscopy, diagnosis and forensics), each providing a different type of gameplay. Diagonis and Forensics are very different from the previous games, with no action elements. They are more like mystery adventure games where you try to figure out a patient's ailment, or perform autopsies and additional forensic tests to solve mysterious deaths. The story has you zapping between the six specalists, until their stories come together for the final chapter. I've only played the original Trauma Center and that was a fun game, but I remember it became quite difficult in the latter half of the story. Trauma Team never becomes really frustrating, luckily (save for the last Endoscopy operations!) and there's enough variety in characters and gameplay to keep the player entertained till the end.

Yeah I thought that version of the game looked super interesting and I looked up a lot of it since then. Looks really special and unique.

Is why I prefer emulations of the game, especially if I also have a save editor or PokéGen. Then I just MAKE myself a shiny. ('cept it last didn't work on a rom hack of Emerald. Sadness.)

Maybe it's just me, but I find it more satisfying when you actually earn that shiny or love that moment when you stumble upon a shiny at random. There's just something magical about that. To me, I feel like hacking in shinies takes away the novelty of what makes a shiny a shiny.

Tried playing Kraven Manor. Boy, is it intense. The main threat of the game is basically a slower version of a Weeping Angel. If you're not looking at it, it'll come after you, and it's fast enough to where that can be a problem. The worst part of it is that it's often placed into a small room or hallway with you, and you have to solve some kind of puzzle to get out, meaning you have to take your eyes off it for a moment. Then there's the fact that your flashlight can flicker on and off, so even looking at it doesn't guarantee your safety.

At least it can't sense when the player is blinking.

Went to a fighting game club at my uni last night with a friend, and chose P4:Ultimax out of BB: Chrono Phantasma, Marvel 3, and GG: Xrd. I've never touched P4 before, so a few of the regulars had a beginners station setup for all the scrubs like me to get used to the game without the fear of getting completely rekt by the P4 vets. Was thinking of tier-whoring by picking Narukami but decided to go with Junichi(?), Labrys, and Aigis in the three sets that I played. Ended up settling on Aigis and her weird cross between keep-away and rushdown.
I don't feel like hooking my old consoles up and buying P4 to play at home, so I guess the most I'll get out of the game is club.

Dear Atlus, gimmie your games on PC please. I'd rather spend on money on PC ports than expend energy on playing with console cables. kthxbye.

Oh.man Blak-san is OK with P4U? If you get the ol' console version then we can throw down.

Also kinda jealous you have a fighting game club. Best I've got is a guy who plays fighting games at a cafe I go to. And he's not merciful on beginners and scrubs at all so its just not much fun to play him.

Hey now I never had any beef with P4U. Back when I played 360, I was gonna get it but decided against it since my Marvel friends weren't down for it.
And the fight club is pretty intense. There were probably 20 other people going at it with their custom sticks on different machines. Twas pretty cool.

My first playthrough of Xillia 2 in Japanese and did the bad ending. Sure, had to go on Easy and had to redo it once cause Confusion IS A BITCH STATUS ELEMENT WORSE THAN POKÉMON CRITS, but I got it. So that's off the table. And considering it's not used as a 'real' ending, I don't have to think of redoing character episodes for affinity and the Best Buds trophy.

Hatsune Miku Project mirai DX.
I bought it mostly because of Gamestop closing. I wanted to try this series out because i wanted to see why this is basically the franchise keeping Sega afloat and Gamestop was the only place i could find with it in stock so i took my chances with it being at a discount.

The music is good, the graphics are good and there are no glitches as far as i can see so i guess Sega's got themselves a winner with this, i've had so much fun with it.

Also there's a version of Puyo pop in the game on the side! I love puyo pop! Awesome!

If I change my on-screen Vocaloid, does it also change the voice singing the song? It doesn't, does it?

It actually DOES in Mirai DX, but you can't use every Vocaloid for every song; you have to "unlock" the ability to use different Vocaloids on a song by playing it a couple times.
