Not entirely fair Cat. I'm never going to see "who cares" as an acceptable response. Its just a matter of timing. I suppose though I get the impression this individual was trolling you (lack of punctuation, and no follow up argument just makes me think that) whereas when you said it it felt genuine in that you had a follow up argument to try and justify "who cares".

Also I got the impression at the end of that discussion you still thought that " who cares" was a valid defence based on how rigidly you clung to it. If anything its hypocritical of you to call for defence when you respect it as an argument but whatever.

Mister Gruel wrote:

You there! Ogre! "Who cares?" Is not an acceptable argument, if someone is talking about something it evidently matters to them which disproves your statement even as you speak it.

In other news today is my D&D group and its time for a new character to join us after the whole 'potted plant' fiasco. I'm looking forward to it.

See, if I say Who cares, I at least have the decency to explain WHY one shouldn't really care about something. It's just like saying "I don't like this game" and leaving. I don't do that. I explain my point of view and opinion, so that others might understand why I think so - not just drop my line and leave. And I hold other people to that standard.

That actually seems worse.

It means you believe "Who cares" is a VALID reason if you are using it seriously.

"who cares" without any reason is just for trolling in my eyes, I know the person is just doing it to annoy/just cause.

Using it in a legitimate argument is far worse because it means you are actually dismissing other people's opinions in your argument.

It's not something I would be proud of but I know that doesn't matter to you.

in case you were wondering i was pointing out that this whole argument started because cat began pressing someone on their offhand comment about a ship they liked

hence "who cares" about the argument besides cat

Pierre, hence I pointed out that I say Who cares AND explain why one SHOULDN'T care. I'm not saying Who Cares and leave it at that. I give an explanation why it's not important enough to care about. Hell, if you want a fancier name for it, call it Law Of Conservative Detail - only add things that are important. (And, preferably, trim those down to the absolute necessity) Or, heck, call it Chekhov's Gun.

You saying it louder and bolder doesn't make it any less clear. I get what you mean I just don't think its something to be proud of.

You are trying to validate not caring about someone's opinion. You say "who cares" in response to something that clearly indicates they care. If you follow it up with a reason its as if you are saying

"You are outright wrong. No one cares about x because x is meant to be y".

Consider replacing with:

" I disagree (instead of who cares), I think (again not absolute) that Y is more important to X than Z because...etc"

Saying "who cares" paints your opinion as absolute, and theirs as worthless. The world is a big place, I can guarantee if one person is thinking it then somewhere other people share that thought so "who cares" is never valid or true because at least one person will always care.

You having an opinion might be right for you but not for everyone, therefore it is inconsiderate to paint others as absolutely wrong when their opinion or belief works fine for them.

Wow, you leave for a while to this kind of argument, i honestly don't have good enough response other than i feel kind of bad for having triggered the whole thing.

On the topic of playing games though i restarted Alpha Sapphire today, i have a Torchic and a Ralts on my team and stopped playing at Petalburg.

Why would you feel bad for that? You have as much of a right to an opinion as everyone else, it's not your fault Cat takes everything she disagrees with as a personal affront.

Good fire-types are hard to come by in ORAS and Ralts is one of the most solid Pokemon you can pick up in those games, I don't see the problem

It wasn't even you. It was Cat supporting the use of "Who Cares" and then calling foul when people don't come to her support someone using "Who Cares" against her.

If Cat thinks its a valid defence then Cat can treat it like a valid problem with her reasoning.

Hang on. Poison moves only do normal damage against Fire-types and Fighting-types, so Torchic is in no danger there. In addition, if that Ralts becomes a Gallade, its weakness to Poison-type moves will disappear.

As for me, I'm currently playing Crusader Kings II. The new expansion caused problems for my existing files and made it very difficult for me to retain power as Emperor. As such, I'm trying something new: I'm starting off as the Doux of Nikaea. Through some strategic marriages, I now have multiple close ties to the Imperial Family (at present, there is no risk of inbreeding, but I'll have to keep an eye out for that kind of thing in the future). For starters, one of my daughters, Martha (a bastard), is married to the current Emperor. Another one of my daughters, Gabrielia (a legitimized bastard and my current heir), is married matrilineally to Konstantinos, the Emperor's brother. The previous Emperor gave in to a faction's demands and established an elective monarchy. That worked out in my favor, as Konstantinos is currently the most popular heir. His only real rival for the throne died after drinking some poisoned wine. Never anger your spymaster.

Still, it wouldn't be too hard for my plan to fall apart. I've been lucky so far and only had daughters, ensuring that Gabrielia remains the heir. A son could ruin all that. In addition, my control over the Empire hinges on Konstantinos being the next Emperor and his child (my grandchild) succeeding him.

Edit: My first character is dead and now Gabrielia is the Duchess of Nikaea. It appears someone else is also after the Imperial throne, though: the Devil. A very rare event chain has triggered. Gabrielia's supposed youngest daughter, Thomais, is the latest pawn in the Devil's schemes. ...I will do what I must if it comes to that.

I started and finished Firewatch. Its pretty short but was good all the same. Unfortunately I'd say its potential is quite...limited...well that's not true.

What I mean to say is it had huge potential but it capitalises on none of it.

Its an ongoing mystery set in a Forest park somewhere in America (maybe Wyoming) where you play Henry, a new member of the Firewatch, stationed alone in a tower to keep an eye out for forest fires over the summer.

Not entirely alone though. You have your boss Delilah stationed in another tower in a different part of the forest on the radio as your sole contact.

They play with a lot of strange story elements I won't detail here for spoilers sake but in the crux of the game when strange things start happening it makes you ask "what is going on?!".

The game loves dialogue choices and you get the feeling that every radio comm you send to Delilah could be influencing the story in subtle ways.

Is there a conspiracy? Are the strange things all in Henry's head? Is it just mother nature being dangerous and terrifying?

But the thing is, as satisfied as I was with the ending I felt the game had potential to do multiple endings where the endgame veers towards each of these mysterious themes to explain what's going on. However having finished it and read up on it, it seems that the game always has one set path with no varience. Which effectively makes your dialogue choices feel a little disappointing in hindsight.

Like I said, what potential it could have capitalised on if it had altered the story with your choices instead of just your relationship with Delilah.

Not that what's given is BAD but you'd best seen for yourself, it's worth a bit of fun and keeps you guessing.

On topic, I bought Dragon's Dogma today.
It's a lot of fun.
Good PC port.
60 fps.
Kinda like Dark Souls, except not Dark Souls.
Very nice.
Combat is very smooth, and playing a greatsword build is really fucking hard.
Plus you can climb on top of monsters a la Shadow of the Colossus.
You can also install nude mods like I'm going to.

I bought Super Mario Galaxy yesterday. After forgetting about it for a few hours, I had to wait another few hours to actually play it, cause the batteries in the WiiMote were empty. Yeah, I don't like battery-powered things like that, really... The game is fun enough, though the perspective still throws me off. Especially if it screws my controls.

Finished Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls. Most of the time, the game has awful pacing (walk two steps, exposition scene, shoot two things, exposition scene, etc.), but as a puzzle game with shooter mechanics, it can be really fun, with both puzzle challenge rooms, as well as battle situations where there's often 'an easy way' out if you use your various bullets in the right way. (The situations where the game basically forces you to play it as a 'normal' shooter are a lot less enjoyable). Story-wise, it's set between DR1 and SDR2, but it's best played after SDR2, as it does spoil some of the plot/characters in SDR2. The story is fairly straightforward, but it was at least more interesting that Danganronpa/Zero.

I played DR1/SDR2 in Japanese, but I noticed the English version has some weird, minor translation mistakes. I played it with the Japanese voice track, but there were some cases where the translator(s) apparently misread the script in very minor ways. No really big mistakes, and it was not a regular thing, but still, little mistakes that could (and should) have been detected with a second check.

Danganronpa started out on the PSP as an original IP based on the Ace Attorney games, and yesterday, I started with another original IP based on the AA games on the Vita/PSTV: Net High. In Japanese internet slang, there exists the word "Ria-ju", meaning 'someone who has a fulfilling/satisfying life in the real world'. Usually, this means having a significant other/a good job/have a rich private life/being a contributing member of society/etc. Non-riajus are those who spend all day cooped up in a room browsing the internet/etc. In the world of Net High, social privilages are granted to riajus, and your riaju level is dependent on the number of followers you have on Tweeter, the government SNS application. On the other hand: those with few followers are considered the lowest of the low, and those with 0 followers lose ALL rights as a civilian. Trying to break the system up from within, the protagonist participates in ENJ Battles (Flame Wars), where he tries to prove that all those high-ranking riajus aren't what they claim to be online (winners of ENJ Battles get to take the followers of the loser).

So how is this Ace Attorney-inspired? In the Investigation segments, you look for 'rumors' to use in ENJ Battles both in the real world, as well as online. For example, you can check out the Tweeter account of your opponent, and look for clues. What you're looking for is something to prove your opponent isn't really living the fulfilling life they claim to have online ("evidence"). The ENJ Battles are streamed realtime online on Niyo Niyo Douga. Like in AA, your opponent makes an appeal, and you can "press" statements or "present" evidence to prove they're lying. Like showing that a post on their Tweeter account was a lie. Like Danganronpa, there are also a couple of other mechanics, like the online poll.

I only played the first chapter, but it's pretty fun, though the start is really, really slow as it dumps A LOT of information on you with little interaction. The interesting thing is that this isn't really a mystery game like AA or Danganronpa: you're just trying to win a flame war, so just getting on the good side of the viewers (and followers) is also important. The "breakdown" scenes are also fun: you see everyone as their image they pretend to be online, but as the ENJ Battle goes on, you slowly reveal their true nature and their visuals change accordingly.

No English. Most of the game is voiced (if you can understand Japanese conversation a bit), but even then you do need to be able to read (or you can't find the right evidence to present, for example).

I think this would be an interesting game to localize actually. The game already features a TIPS function, a sort of dictionary function for keywords. The game is heavily grounded in (Japanese) internet culture, and the TIPS are used to briefly explain all kinds of terms (usually with a humorous tone). A localized version could make great use of this function to provide more background to the more cultural specific terms (like the important Riaju).
