Glass Rose (PS2). First adventure game by Cing (Another Code, Hotel Dusk). I love the early Showa setting, as well as the classic mystery story set-up with a complex family with every member having some motive for wanting someone else dead (as well as the 1920s film company background). There’s an interesting conversation system, where you select the keywords you want to ask more about to advance in conversation trees.

But the game also feels flawed. Storywise, the characters don’t seem to react enough to all the deaths around them, which is a bit of a waste of the setting (I need a “I’m not staying here, one of you might be the murderer!”), but gameplay-wise the game just feels lacking. You don’t actually solve the murders yourself, you walk around talking with people (and occasionally collecting evidence), so most of the game you’re just walking around in a big mansion in the hopes of finally activating the correct flags to advance with the story (often, you just have to guess that person X is somewhere).

This would’t be that bad on its own, but the map is actually quite big, the cursor doesn’t show what is a hotspot and what isn’t unless you’re in Easy mode and most importantly, this game runs on a timer, with you having to perform all the required actions within each segment of time (a period of one hour) to proceed to the next. The game punishes you for taking your time, while on the other hand, it wants you to take your time by checking every person and every object every new segment of time (some cabinets will suddenly have new objects to pick up once you're in the next hour, even though there’s no hint or visual cue to that. You just need to click on everything every time a new hour starts).

The story was written by Suzuki (Another Code, Hotel Dusk) by the way, and it's quite noticable, with the story emphasis on hidden memories and pasts.

Finished J.B Harold Murder Club (DS version): the DS port of the 1986 murder mystery adventure developed by Riverhillsoft, written by Rika Suzuki (who would form CING with some other ex-Riverhillsoft members after the company's bankruptcy). A very orthodox command-style adventure game, where you take on the role of police detective J.B. Harold, trying to solve the murder on Bill Robbins, a member of the local elite. It's a very sober adventure: the whole game consists of talking with all the suspects, until you have enough evidence to get search warrants or enough grounds to bring them in for questioning at the police station. There are no chapter divisions, and you can easily complete the game just by using every option with every person (a lot of times). And the game has the usual weird design choices of command-style adventures, like forcing you to ask about the same topic several times even though there's no reason why the person wouldn't have told you everything in one go.

But... I thought it was a pretty amusing game, in a very sober way. You do feel like you're slowly uncovering the murder as each interview with a suspect will bring something new up, which brings you to another suspect, and that usually leads to another hint etc. As you progress, you'll slowly get enough grounds to ask the prosecutor for search warrants etc., so it does feel like you yourself are doing the police work. That said though, I wish this game had a more comprehensive database system for all the evidence/testimonies/etc. It only records the basic information of each entry, and few of the discoveries you make as you progress through the game are added, so the database doesn't really help when you want to review the whole case again late in the game. (This is especially bothersome if you want to compare alibis etc, as the database doesn't add all discoveries you make about the alibis).

Other versions of this game are available in English by the way, like a Windows and MS-DOS version. The DS version (only available in Japan) is a slightly enhanced version as far as I can tell, adding a new epilogue as a bridge to the second game (which was also ported to the DS).

This sounds kinda like an interesting play! A shame the DS version was only in Japanese.

I'm currently playing Fire Emblem Fates... My mindset has now switched from "Oh god plot, just let me do the battles!" to "Oh god the battles... I just want to know what happens next!". I picked Conquest this run, and I guess that means I'll do Birthright once I'm done. I'm up to chapter 21 and all the thinking that goes into planning your way around the levels is amazing! I try to grind, but the enemies are too strong, and I have hardly any Master Seals to level my guys up. That being said, Silas as a Lodestar and Peri as a Great Knight are my OP guys, and Camilla and Effie are pretty much my impenetrable back-up XD

I've been playing fates for a while now as well! I'm a big fire emblem fan and am enjoying the game! I'm almost done with conquest and plan to play birthright after a little break from the game.

The game a plan to start playing soon and maybe continue it through my break between fates routes is Ghost Trick: Phatom Dectective. As much as it pains me to say, I just picked it up yesterday to play and add it to my ever growing collection of ds games. I've heard good things about it and am excited to play it. Since a playing ace attorney so long ago (actually, only about 2 years but it feels longer then that!), a door for visual novels has opened up for me, and ghost trick seems like a great place to go next!

That's about where I am as well, the Wind Level was pretty interesting and fun. Though I've since discovered that that Ninja skill I hate so much (the one that does 20% of max hp damage on attack) is on Malig Knight except it's an AOE ability...which might make me dread birthright a little.

Also I'm a little disgusted at the concept of "Phoenix mode" where your units bloody return in the same battle XD I mean on a rout the enemy map that basically makes you outright invincible assuming you keep the main character out of the way.

Small criticism: I think the character creator is lacking far more this time than before. Maybe my memory of before is fuzzier but I think you had more options in awakening. In this I can only be "boy" or "teen" but I've always had a fondness for making older more-brusque characters.

This investigation game were you try to escape (in this case a cruise ship) this game is called Parascientific Escape Cruise of The Distant Seas. The game is actually pretty good. I give it a 8/10 the only thing I don't like is the telekenisis sections are hard to control at times, and you can't save during dialog segments.

Woah man...what a rush

Me and some friends just managed to pull out an amazing last second victory in Final Fantasy XIV against...

Spoiler: Heavensward Spoiler
Thordan EX

Confirmed as THE hardest content. So hard it had to be nerfed and then the developers apologised and said they would not make something that difficult again.

It was so clutch too. I was just like using the limit break and anything I could. My girlfriend was just like "no that's it...this is his enrage (read: instant kill.mechanic because you took too long to kill him)" people are dying everywhere and then whoosh.

AW what a win. Really pleased with that.

I'm playing Kirby: Planet Robobot right now. As usual, it's short enough that I'm trying to play it as slowly as I can, but I enjoy Kirby games so much that it's difficult to stop playing. Basically, keeping myself from playing the game is harder than the game itself.

Playing Gone Home right now.

Waaaaaay past the point where I think I should probably have called the police about everyone missing and let them do all this spooky investigating...with Torches. It's so dark and while I'm fairly sure it's not supernatural, it's pretty terrifying in some of these weird corridors.

I am replaying GK2 to finish off my Ace Attorney marathon. Then I'll go on to Spec Ops: The Line so I can feel like a bastard again. Then I'll actually play Danganronpa after buying it off Steam two months ago and letting it sit there.

Dark Souls 2 Scholars of the First Sin, just before the Chariot boss.

Dual Destinies, the DLC case.

Ocarina Of Time (3ds), first time playing it... haven't made much progress. In fact none at all.

Super Princess Peach, if I'm not mistaken I was at 4-1 or something.
Thanks. It was, is and always will be a pleasure.

I'm playing two (new) games for me. And I am making both my Let's Plays.

Clock Tower for the Super Nintendo. Controls took me a bit to get used to. A button is used for inventory and not searching, which is Y... I do sort of know what to do for CERTAIN endings out of the 9, but I only just started.

Misao a freeware horror game. I went into the game cause I heard about the plot (A classmate, Misao, has been missing for three months and people think that she's dead; then the school gets teleported into another dimension and the player character needs to undo what is assumed to be Misao's curse, to save everyone) and decided, yep, I wanna play this. And let's make a Let's Play out of it. Why not?

I only know about the beginning plot and one indication of this game having multiple endings. I know of one ending that has Aki (player character) transported back with the murderer. No name was added, but now that I know the character names, I... I... might know who the murderer is. Now, I could be wrong! Outside of the above mentioned plot, I have NO IDEA what will happen.

Revelation again, this time going for max supports on everyone. No advancing until every unit in my army is as far along in their support lines as possible without actually confirming the S and A+ ranks.

Only up to Chapter 11 and even with all animations and enemy phases skipped I have almost 15 hours logged and 330K+ gold in the bank.

Clock Tower... god, how boring. I know that it's random if a room will have the scissorman appearing or nothing appearing, but THIS IS BORING! 90% of the time I'm just recording footage of Jennifer walking around the house. Alone. With nothing following her and no sound. And while that should help in making me feel tense as a player, it just bores me and it makes me worry that the video will be terrible quality - because who wants a 30 minute long video where 25 of them are spent walking down halls in silence?

Seriously, if my next recording (which would be the third video) doesn't give me anything good within 20 minutes, I'm gonna just get into that car, get a bad ending and call it quit. Clock Tower 3 was more exciting than this, despite its sudden falling into cheesy-hilarious territory.

I'm assuming you're recording for a LP? If really nothing happens during that time, I'd say just cut it, or show in fast-forward with a note. When you're live-streaming, there's little you can do about it, but when you actually have a chance to properly edit a LP before uploading, I think that people really should. Maybe it's because I started watching LPs because of GameCenter CX and watch mostly LPs on NicoNico (which is stricter on upload sizes/lengths), but I am of the opinion that LPs should be approached a bit more like 'shows', and should good editing to be entertaining to the viewer. Sure, a few minutes of thinking (out loud!) is okay, but I wouldn't watch to watch anyone play a game for 25 minutes walking down halls in silence, and I don't think you do either.

Playing: √ Letter, a new mystery-adventure on the Vita, with art by the person behind Love Plus. Am about 1/3 in, but an interesting game, where you're looking for a penpal you lost contact with 15 years ago, and try to find her by identifying the friends she mentioned in her letters.

I could do that... but I do not think I could cut-out, unless I want to upload a 3 Minute long video with something actually happening or upload a video that is 10 minutes long with 19 of those minutes being fast-forwarding walking through halls...

I might delete the Clock Tower video and do a Misao LP, as I thought I'd do. At least there, things happen.

Spoiler: Papyrus fight
The blue attack was fine. I actually welcomed the change since I'm better at platformers than bullet hell games. What pissed me off was that the fight went on so stinking long with no indication of which non-lethal combat methods were the most effective. Had I known it was to be more of an endurance battle, I'd have stocked up on healing items beforehand.

Spoiler tag is mostly in case someone wants to go in blind, which I've been trying to do as best as I can so far.

Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker.
Recall that I recently mentioned how I wanted to play it again, but had sold it? Well, none of the Gamestops in my surroundings seemed to have it in stock, so I decided to get the e-Shop version. I was actually kind of miffed, because physical or digital copy, I figured I'd have to REDO all the work I did previously - including getting everyone to Fate Link Level 4 and getting the Triumphant title for keeping everyone alive and joining me on Daichi's route...

But then I turned it on and there was a suspended save. Wow! That's my old suspended save, where I stopped in the bonus battle against Lilith! Hey, I don't have a proper 'save' but if I manage to win this battle, I can save then AND retain all my work! Neat! So, I won and saved and do not have to redo all my work. I am relieved. (Though I do find it not good how freaking easy the game gets on NG+ in general...)

Monster Hunter Generations

Yeah once more back into the fold I go. Unlocking all the previous villages...its weird I never realised how fondly I would remember Pokke Village with its lovely music. The nostalgia of that quaint little snowy village hit me hard.

At the same time it makes.me worry for a friend of.mine. He was worried this game would bring up some painful memories and I'm a little concerned the trip down memory lane might be a rough one for him.

But talking about the game itself its fun. I feel like a true veteran when I glide around Velocidromes' attacks without any concern and down it within 5 minutes with an unfamiliar weapon and barely any gear. I guess that's just the experience buffer speaking. Understand the game mechanics and I guess I can feel a dab hand with any weapon.

That said I'm not quite sure what weapon to utilise this time around. I'm a dab hand with a gunlance, the great sword was also an old favourite, longsword is so slick a chimp could use it and I've dabbled with Swords and shields and hammers in my time too. I rocked out with bowguns in the last game (oh god they are fun) I've never enjoyed the feel of hunting horns or switch axes so I've been messing around with Archery and Dual Swords.

Last time I really messed with bows was to farm Gravios in MHFU where because of their huge size they were ridiculously vulnerable to the spread shot of certain bows.

Dual swords were the trademark weapon of an old friend and they feel pretty good if a bit...flaily...wild? Lot of attacks will miss when using them but I slaughtered that Velocidrome within 5 minutes using almost basic versions of the weapon so the Damage Output must be ABSURD.

Then there's the styles...I didn't think I'd take to it but Adept style has surprised me. I accidentally left it on after trying a couple of weapons and the dodges are really quite nice. Only problem is at times I'm not sure how to capitalise on them. I can activate the super dodge with longsword and then my hunter LOOKS ready to unleash hell but I'm just baffled as to what comes next. Also I can't finish my spirit combo in adept style so that sucks. However with a bow I swap out the back step for a full on forward roll like most classes and that feels amazing to have on hand.

Sorry for the splurge. Games' deep.

Finished Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons. It's a good game and all, but I made the mistake of playing it with a keyboard. Ow.

Oh definitely. It's been a while since I've gotten this emotional over a game.
...Though I'm still questioning why there's an achievement for throwing a little girl's ball down a well. Maybe the devs just wanted to see how many people would actually do it?
