Hmm... would it, though? How often do they localize names based on the original Japanese meanings? I'm not picking or anything, but it seems to me they start fresh more often than not.

Unless the original Japanese puns can't be translated to an English variant or they're a bit spoilery, they do often come up with names based on the Japanese ones. Less often do they copy it directly from them, though. Hence the legends like "Ahlbi Ur'gaid" and "Luke Atmey".

There aren't as many names that aren't based on the Japanese names in some way, like with Robert Hammond, which I can never get where it came from. It's not so obscure with Phoenix and his lawyers, though.

Some characters names are pretty much references to their Japanese names.
A lot of the English names for this game thus far seem to share the same meaning as their Japanese names too.

LOOOOL
Spoiler:
Maybe the defendant?
Seeing as all the other characters seem to have names related to "wind" (fuu/buu/puu all refer to wind). Puuko is literally "Wind child", so maybe she'd be named Wendy? (We've had 2 Jack's, another Wendy won't hurt XD)

If we're going with the whole apostrophe and extra "H" thing again... (NOTE: These names are not good at all, they're just satirical)

Mitamaru -> Mitamahl
Nayuta Sadmadhi -> Nayuta Sahd'madhi
Inga Karukul Kurain -> Inga Kahru'kul Khura'in
Spoiler: Case 5
Druk Sadmadhi -> Druk Sahd'madhi
Amara Shigataal Kurain -> Amara Shiga'tahl Khura'in

I think Malmel Aatam should be "Bahl Da'hid". It's a pun on "bald head".

Interestingly, Saara should be "Silka Da'hid", as "sarasara"(さらさら)means "silky", according to Ash.

Nanashiino Gonbe (tentative) should be "Jahnkyo Pah'blik (tentative)". It's a pun on "John Q. Public", an English equivalent of "nanashi no gonbei".

Huh. The extra H thing is starting to get a little annoying IMO. At this rate everyone in Khura'in will have an H in there name, which is a pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

Also, having a dude named Inga would be really weird.

What's the source for this? He's not in the new trailer, nor is he mentioned in any of the tinier previews within the trailer, as far as I can tell.

I demand we rename the game to "Phoheh'nihxhx Whrihghth: Shphirhith ohfh Juhshtihceh". Fits the Khura'in theme much better.

So case name localisations.

Turnabout Foreigner -> A Foreign Turnabout
Turnabout Magic Show -> The Magical Turnabout
Turnabout Ritual stays as is
Turnabout Theatre stays as is
Turnabout Revolution -> The Revolutionary Turnabout
Turnabout Across Time stays as is

And characters...

Nanashiino Gonbe (provisional) -> John Doe (provisional)
-Nanashiino Gonbe is literally John Doe
Bakufuu Senpuutei -> Bastion Sentei
-Bakufū means ‘blast’ (like a ‘blast from an explosion’), and Bastion is supposed to sound like Blast and Explosion combined. Sentei comes from his Japanese name.
Puuko Senpuutei -> Wendy Sentei
-Fū (Pū) is the on-yomi of the character meaning ‘wind’, and Wendy comes from windy.
Bifuu Senpuutei -> Zephyr Sentei
-Bifū (written as 微風) means ‘breeze’ and Zephyr is a light breeze

We already have a John Doe. And the Japanese equivalent of that was "Tarou Tanaka".

I think we should go with a "foreignized" version of "John Q. Public". Just like how "I'll be your guide" became "Ahlbi Ur'gaid", John Q. Public should be something like "Jahnkyo Pah'blik (temporary)". Yes, my names suck.

I think that you went a little overboard with some of the Khura'in names. I'm pretty sure what we've had with Ahlbi and Paht are just regular names with more 'h's. Ahlbi = Alby (Short for Albert), and Paht = Pat. Then again we've had names like "Deid"

That being said, as the person who suggested Connor Berggold, I ended thinking Conan is a better name. "Con and Burgled".
Spoiler: case 3
Fon Myou's name should be Nahte Anahleas. "Not an alias", with his fake name being Boh Doh'nanprei "Bow down and pray"

Well they did

Kokone Kizuki (Athena Cykes)
to
Mari Kizuki (Metis Cykes)
because in Greek Mythology Metis is the mother of Athena.

So it would be logical to do
Housuke Odoroki (Apollo Justice)
to
Spoiler: 6-5
Sousuke Odoroki (Zeus Justice)
because Zeus is the father of Apollo

, wouldn't it?
