Since apparantly, bitching is a part of the C-R Police Station culture... here's a topic about series ruiners. Series that were awesome (or still are) until one game happened to crush all that momentum to you. Sometimes, they make it back. Sometimes, they don't. But one game was a landmark of suck in that particular series.

Plus, this topic is informative as it allows us to avoid awful games.

Now, here's my pick :

Def Jam : Icon - Vendetta was strange. FFNY was awesome for what it was - an overcommercial glorification of the gangsta lifestyle sold to young impressionable children, covered with a simili-fall from grace story that splintered rather far (D-Mob was a good guy in this one, and the main boss in Vendetta) from the original material. The thing was the fighting in FFNY was actually decent, the same with the customisation (except for the fact that you needed platinum/diamond jewelry if you wanted any charisma whatsoever).

Then, EA decided to develop Icon in-house, at EA Chicago, dumping the award-winning Aki Corp. Wrestling Engine for an awkwardly playable title that bears practically no resemblance to the surprisingly amusing product of yore. I don't think I've ever seen a series lose momentum as fast as this one.

Persona 3 could just be a series killer, theoretically, but I'd rather say Star Ocean 3, since that one was really, really just .. awful.

But Persona 3 was popular and probably did more to revive a forgotten franchise than hurt it.

My series ruiner is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. ;D

Heh. We'll see. I think it'll just be the equivalent to Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. The last revamp of SF2 until recently. Meaning, we'll probably get something that's drastically different with gameplay next time around.

Rainbow Six: Lockdown and Critical Hour. I group the two together because they ruined the reasons why Rainbow was fun: it was realistic and didn't feel like a run and gun shooter.

Luckily, Ubi came back with Vegas. Proof that just because game companies fuck up once doesn't mean the rest of what they make will suck.

I know a guy that tested Vegas.

He never wants to touch that game again :P

Honestly the game looks fun, although the control scheme seems overly complicated. I expected more nerdrage than I got but oh well.

Personally I've always found Final Fantasy 8 and 10 to be sort of sour notes--they seem to be focused on the trend of 'hey look FMVs' than anything else.

Wild Arms 4 was also reprehensibly bad, and I hope WA5 can do something to fix that.

*blinks* :udgy: SSBB has 4 control set ups, one of which is the Gcube controller we used to play SSBM, how exactly is that compliacted? <_<

Series ruiner, Chrono Cross was so bad that they have never made any Chrono _____ games since, which is too bad, because CT was easily one of the greatest games ever.

Lunar: Dragon song. After enjoying a great series they decide to make a Lunar with every horrible game idea they could and add in a even worse story to the mix full of clichs, things that dont make sense and just doesnt do anything for the Lunar universe. now i cant even play the old games cause of that crap.

Forgot about that, yep that game also ruined a great rpg series.

Well, not everyone can be pleased.

The PC port of Vegas, however, not as good as the console version.

What version did he playtest?

IIRC, he's playtesting it again for... the Japanese market. Keep in mind he doesn't know the language at all.

Sonic Heroes.

ALL Sonic games after that sucked (excpet for Rush).
Don't tell they can't make good 3D Sonic games, Adventure 1-2 were great.

Sonic 3D Blast ruined Sonic long before Sonic Heroes did. :sawit:

Mega Man and Sonic.

Sonic, though the 2D games are okay (Sonic Rush and such), it's taken a horribly wrong shitty direction with 3D. It all started with Sonic Heroes...then Shadow the Hedgehog...then the infamous Sonic 2006.

When it comes to Mega Man, I still enjoy some games in the series... though like Sonic, the series has lost much of its momentum, with more (uninteresting) spinoffs like Star Force and ZX. I ask one question and that is: Where the f*** is Legends 3?--sequel to, arguably, two of the greatest games in the series?

That's my point--they should have just stuck to the Classic or Gcube controller and left it at that. There's really no need to include every single controller option for the Wii 'just because.'

I think I have it only because I'm some what of an obsessive completionist for certain things. Explains why I have all of the FF games (except X-2, Dirge, etc.) even though I hate like half of them.

Same here, I think. It was still pretty freaking disappointing. Especially after WA1 and 2 that were pretty awesome.

I know many dislike the megaman battle network series but i really enjoyed them. ( but to my credit it was the very first megaman game i ever played) I thought the worst game in the series was mmbn 4 blue moon and red sun. It just had horrible story, broken gameplay and you had to beat it 3 times to get all the souls and story. Waste of time and money. :sadshoe:

I'm not alone in saying that Guilty Gear Isuka left a pretty bad taste in people's mouths...

And the upcoming SRPG/3-D Fighter of GG probably will, too.
