"He did go around checking on all of us, although that behavior isn't quite unusual for a teacher." Althea said.

"Ah...so that was it?" Evelyn blinked in surprise. "That was...certainly one way to go about it, I suppose. So you were responsible for Marshall, Nicos and Eli's strange paranoia...as well as Mr. Anderson's, I suppose. ...So we know this now. I wonder what else this could change. If he were especially paranoid, maybe this could have affected his confrontation with the killer as well."

"... I'm pretty sure that's the exact definition of the term 'drugging'," Taylor remarked, crossing his arms, looking thoroughly unimpressed. "Great, so that's probably why certain people were so paranoid..."

"Like I said, he might not have breathed any in, since he was covering his mouth. If he had breathed it in, I would imagine that he would have actually, you know, accepted Rose's bodyguard thing. He didn't take interest in it though."

Marshall folds his arms, "Rose, you messed with my brain chemistry so that I would do whatever you wanted. You're right though, clearly we're overreacting."

"That's totally not even true! I asked you before and you turned me down!" Rose pouts. "What had to be done was done."

She turns to Marshall and Taylor. "Okay, fine, I might have influenced you just a little bit with the perfume, but it was for a good cause! I get to be alive!"

"Sure, and you mighta gotten Teach killed in the process," Eli remarked dryly. "But let's not jump to conclusions. I guess it's possible Nick was unaffected by the drug...or maybe his cold just caused him to get affected less quickly. It could explain why he disappeared during that long period, at least. If not, well...we haven't really made much progress."

"That's not how the perfume works." Rose mutters. "You want to know how it works? I'll tell you how it works, but you better all be listening because I don't like repeating myself."

The pink-haired girl clears her throat. "The perfume influences people. They do what I want them to because they think it's what they want to do." She explains. "I can't really directly control people with it, but I can encourage people to do something they were considering anyway. On the other hand, they wouldn't do anything I didn't want them to do, even if they were considering doing it before." Rose continues.
"The perfume is a lot less effective on people who know of it and are expecting it, which is kind of lame, but can't be helped. People under the influence of the perfume still keep all their senses, memories, sense of self, that kind of stuff. It's not like they'll see things that aren't there and they can't be told to forget something, either. Basically, the perfume only allows me to make people take actions they reasonably could and would anyway.

The perfumer blows a string of hair off her forehead. "So yeah, that's basically how it works." She then thinks for a moment. "Oh, and I guess there's one extra detail that might be important I guess. Um, so, in order for people to do more drastic things, there needs to be, like, a "trigger" of some sort that makes them really believe the drastic thing needs doing. You get my gist?"

"Wow, who knew Rose was in possession of the latest date-rape tool," Skylar shuddered, "No matter how you slice it, that perfume is jank and creepy. But I guess what you're implying is that, if someone felt threatened or that they needed to defend themselves, they would?"

"So... basically, you were brainwashing us," Taylor noted, his tone deadpan. "Not completely brainwashing, yeah, but enough to coax us into guarding you. That's nice."

He sighed and brushed aside a lock of hair in his face. "Anyways, what would this trigger to do drastic things be, exactly?"

"Ah, wait. So if someone realized they were being spied on by one of Mr. Okamura's cars, would they be more willing to simply go and smash it...?" Althea gave Rose a concerned look.

"On you? Of course not! Unlike some other people here I can actually count on you without the use of Fidelity Fragrance." Rose says to Nana with a smile.

"Oh, right, that's what it's called, I forgot to mention. Fidelity Fragrance, in stores soon!" She says with a wink.

"Oh wow, so many questions!" Rose first turns to Taylor and Skylar. "Look, the long and short of it is that the perfume is usually more successful when something has already "triggered" the person being affected. Something that would make them comply more easily. It could be anything, really, as long as it incites a strong enough reaction."

She then faces Althea. "I mean, I guess that could happen, but I don't think it did. Someone would remember smashing it, even with the perfume."

Finally, she addresses Honda. "How am I supposed to know what the trigger is?"

"Well, clearly, someone intentionally destroyed the car. And, just as clearly, they are unwilling to come forward about it. But," she stopped to bite her lip, "There is one of us here who has damaged one of those in the past. And, well, who was also quite unhappy with the revelation Mr. Okamura had been watching people. I'll just say it outright."
"Mr. Keyes, did you destroy the toaster? You didn't, right?"

"Like, I'd like to think I'd do what I could to help you without you making me do it, but you said it makes people do what you want while making them think it's what they want to do so I wanted to make sure I was doing what I could for you because that's what I want to do and not just because I thought it's what I wanted to do because it's what you want me to want to do.

"I think the specific details of this perfume can tell us a lot!" Adam said. "For instance, it seems Nick was unaffected. Maybe his talent allowed him to emulate Rose's talent, which is what made him suspicious of the perfume when Rose sprayed it? It would explain why he started coughing and covering his mouth as soon as she did that.

"That's just one example, probably not very helpful. But I'm sure there's much more to learn! I'd recommend going over the details Rose kindly gave you all about how it functions."

Marshall looks at Althea coolly, "If she says I would know if I did, then I didn't. An the thing basically disassembles itself if you hold it, so it's not like I'm the only expert qualified enough to do it."

"So," Skylar began, "we should be looking at what pisses off those affected by the perfume, I guess? Well, not exactly that, but you get my drift. We already have examples of them acting strange and stupid, so I'm not really sure where to go from here."

"So...Rose is the reason no one helped me and Eli hurt my dolls." Annabella glared at her. "Well, at least now we have a bit more information. But don't ever do anything like that again. Especially when it's harmful to others." She gestured to her doll.

"Oh, Annabella I actually have a question for you," Skylar looked over at the doll enthusiast, "Kyoya said that he saw you in his room at one point via a camera, around 14:04, to be more specific. Did you ever comment on that, or am I just going deaf?"

Marshall shrugs, "Trigger? I mean I decided to ditch when I saw that I had to dig holes all day for... you know corpses. I don't know if that's what people mean though."

"Sky, Annabella mentioned checking Kyoya's room actually, if that's what you're talking about. She saw the door was cracked or something and peeked in."

Nina glares at Rose and switches her vote to Rose.

"I don't understand how that thing works. It looks like it works better on people in a weakened emotional state. So if I sprayed Skylar and made her beat up Marshall, she'd say no. But if Nicos non-fatally stabbed Skylar, then I sprayed her to beat up Marshall, then she'd do it?"

“Yes, she did mention it”, Evelyn said. “I don’t think there’s anything suspicious about that.”

“Anyway, On the note of this trigger... Admittedly, I have little idea what it could be seeing as I wasn’t there at the gym with Rose and the others. Perhaps some of you-“ She paused to look at Eli, Marshall and Nicos- “Could tell us more about it. Perhaps try recalling the events there and seeing if something there made the perfume work on you like that. Perhaps Mr. Anderson’s coughing bout might have done it?” She suggested.

Marshall cracks a smile and bites his tongue a little, "I don't think you need perfume to get Skylar to beat me up. The part where Nicos stabs somebody might be necessary though."

"I already told you guys what I genuinely think the trigger was. Honestly, I barely even noticed that I did anything funny, I do want to protect you guys, and that stunt in the rec room and the corpse had me rattled and looking for something to do," he confesses.

"That being said, maybe it's just personal stuff that made it resonate with us more? Like I was thinking about Siri stuff when I decided to leave my post. Maybe Eli and Nicos have something like that weighing on them too."

Kyoya had spent the wrong day to pull an all-nighter and by the time the murder happened he was running on fumes. Coupled with the exhaustion of Nick dying and still being in a killing game, he passed out onto his bed. When he woke up he replayed the video of the trial trying to desperately catch up.

"Miss Scythe, can you describe the clothing of the figure you saw? You said it was unfamiliar, but you should still recognize the type of outfit, yes? Or does the absence of your monocle blind you to those features as well?"

He paused for a moment. "In the interest of full disclosure, I will say that I do have brown hair. But I was not the one you saw."

He then turned to everyone else. "This 'trigger' that caused people to protect Miss Péchard... the display we saw with Vic's body makes the most sense to me. Is it not possible that her horrible stunt for intention caused one of her zombies to think Nick was planning to hurt her? They could feel compelled to kill him for that goal."

“I can’t say much about the clothes, I’m afraid. I only caught a glimpse of them so there is little for me to elaborate on”, Evelyn replied a little sheepishly. “Though the fact that you claim that you are not the figure I saw is a little disturbing... It only leaves Mr. Anderson himself and Eli, as I have stated, but it seems unlikely to have been either.”

“Additionally, I concur that the display in the rec room seems to be a likely candidate for the catalyst, but I fail to see how Mr. Anderson would tie into their paranoia. There is little tying him to that incident, after all. There is a likelier scenario though, that being that the killer was also the one behind the rec room scene. It only makes sense, especially considering we found the very same rose on the chamber door. It makes little sense otherwise if the killer and the vandal were different people...and unlikely as well”, she concluded.

"Less than half your time's remaining, guys!" Eve called out, swaying in her chair. "Don't forget to save your progress!"

Adam, ignoring the android, said, "I think you might be right. The 'trigger' was something that made all the boys think 'Rose is in danger and definitely needs protecting'.

"As for the murder, however... certainly one of the boys might have killed if they though it was necessary to protect Rose. But, does anything about this murder seem like that sort of protection? On the other hand, Rose would not have wanted anyone to kill under her command. It quite simply wouldn't benefit her at all, as she would not be the one allowed to escape if that happened."

"I'm honestly not too clear about how any of this could relate to Nick's murder," Eli said, "Especially since Nick wasn't affected by the perfume. He obviously had no reason to be a threat to Rose either, unless there was some huge, ridiculous misunderstanding. Unless the perfume had some other unintended effect on someone, but I have no idea how that'd even happen."

"This murder was clearly premeditated, taking into account the glue on the control panel and the medicine on Nick's hand. As such, it is highly unlikely the killer acted due to the perfume."
"On the other hand! Rose said that the men affected by the perfume 'wouldn't do anything I didn't want them to do, even if they were considering doing it before'!" Althea said, even doing a faux Rose voice. It was very off the mark. "Since Rose wouldn't want any of them to kill, doesn't that render them innocent? Is that how the fragrance works?"

Adam did his sort-of-nod thing again. "I think you're right, Althea! Unless they somehow thought doing all of that would protect Rose, the perfume would have prevented them from committing murder."
