"By George, I got it!" Kyoya yelled in delight as he thought of a theory that was probably wrong but whatever he's saying it anyway. "There's no real benefit to the killer breaking the transmitter. They simply used the antenna to climb down the cliffside and when it broke, they tied the vine to the rock to make the situation look intentional. So the killer has to be somebody who went to the base!"

Kyoya was satisfied but as he ate his toast he decided to go a step further and accuse Althea too. "Perhaps the antenna even snapped off and hit the killer in the head, forcing them to come up with a reason for having an unusual head-wound."

“That part of the theory doesn’t have to be true. The main idea is that our understanding of the case makes much more sense if the killer went to the base instead of the temple, as thts where my laptop was. Therefore the killer broke the antenna by climbing down the vine.”

"Well, if the killer didn't climb with the vine, that messes everything up, doesn't it?" Marshall grits his teeth anxiously.

"I mean, the logical way to use the vine and the rock is you tie one end of the vine to the antenna and then the other to the rock, and then you use it to break the antenna by pushing the rock off the cliff."

"But does that mean that the killer was at the temple? Did they already steal the laptop at that point?"

"If they stole the laptop they'd have to return it, which makes things even more complicated for the killer. I believe the simplest answer is the correct one here. The killer was at the base. They either broke the antenna from the bottom of the cliffside or broke it by climbing down the cliffside and using the rock as a diversion. Either way, we can narrow down our suspects to those at the base."

"What if they climbed down, but used the rock from the bottom as leverage to break it? Like they applied the weight of the rock after they made it to the bottom, which put enough weight on the vine to break the antenna?"

"Hmm, I dunno. While the killer being at the base does seem like the most obvious solution, it doesn't really line up yet," Eli said, looking away thoughtfully. "Unless they happened to head over there quickly, they couldn't've actually known what Rose was up to, so bringing the car over would be a pointless risk. Not to mention that it doesn't leave much explanation for Rose's being in the Nexus room in the first place."

That is satisfying enough to me, and is the simplest answer. In short, the killer is somebody who was at the base but did not start at the base--that is Doctor Agnes or Miss Hizumi."

There were some furious crunching noises heard. "The killer breaking the antenna from the bottom of the cliff would not only be immensely difficult, but worthless. The killer's goal was always to get to the laptop and the antenna only broke on accident. That is what I trust happened."

Taylor sighed, clearly looking a bit lost. Okay, more than a bit. "If someone saw them climbing down, then they'd have to weasel their way out of that one. But I guess they could've gotten a good look at the area to be sure that no one was there before climbing down, so..." he shrugged, his voice trailing off.

"It's also possible their goal was to break the transmitter, and climbing down the vine was a perfect way to do it while also putting themselves in a position to get my laptop. There are any number of reasons, really. I just can't think of many that make sense with the killer going to the temple."

"Also, we know that the mirror was used at exactly two fifteen, right? We can assume that Rose tried to use the mirror when she was taken into the nexus room. So she probably used it to call backwards. That means someone alone at the base probably received a call from Rose. I personally believe that our killer received that call and used it to learn where Rose would be in ten or so minutes."

"Medical supplies were inside of it," Taylor affirmed upon hearing Evelyn. "Although it looked a bit bulky, as if it was meant to hold more than just that. And it was taken from the waterfall base where we found Hoshiko. The medical supplies seemed to have been taken from a bathroom cabinet in the base."

He then cupped his chin, thinking. "But that begs the question as to why I had it, since I was in the temple, last I remember. I was near the lake, so I probably did go into the base at some point, since it was close. Oh, maybe I caught wind of Rose's condition after she hit the rocks -- perhaps via the terminal in the waterfall base -- so I grabbed medical supplies, put them in a backpack, and headed over there to help?" he theorized.

"Huh? I'm a suspect now?" Annabella looked up. "Well, I don't really know what to say to make you think I'm not. I was looking for Sonia, plain and simple. I didn't kill anyone.

"As for the tools, I think Taylor's idea sounds about right. Marshall was trying to fix the antenna at the time, and just carried them with him. Unless...it was the real murder weapon. But that doesn't sound right to me."

"Miss Annabella was with me in the treehouse," Nana confirmed. "So, like, she couldn't have been at the base to use Mr. Kyoya's computer. I don't see how Mr. Taylor could have done it, either. He was near the lake, so when Miss Skylar called Sis at the terminal thing, Sis probably asked Mr. Taylor to get the medical stuff and tools and bring them to the temple."

"Here's the point I think we need to hit on," Eli said, "The tools came from the base at the waterfall, and Marshall had them later on. That means there's a good chance Marshall was down in the base. We can extend this a bit to say Nicos and I may have been down there too, since we were fixing the machine with Marshall. Seein' as we don't have an exact time for Rose's death, that makes our pool of suspects a bit wider."

"It's also possible that the machine was broken in order to draw the three of us out of the base, so the killer could get their hands on Kyoya's laptop."
