"INTRIIIIIGUING" Maximillion trilled with renewed energy and interest as he zipped over into Lukas; personal space with the knife...so he could see it better of course. He leaned in towards Lukas and held up the knife so they could both look at it.

"Well, now, why do you suppose, my young friend, that this would be here? Your father certainly has excellent craftsmanship! I cannot help but feel this fine filleter of your fathers is foremostly intended for your focus." Maximillion sang as his eyes flickered back from the knife to Lukas' face rapidly with keen interest.

“Fuck if I know.” Luka said flatly to Max’s question. “This isn’t even one of his better ones, but yeah it’s his for sure. Maybe he sold one to Zero at some point.”

[Worth noting that it actually says Kovačič, which is the correct spelling. It's not always easy to type that though, in my defense.]

Maximillion sighed leaning back from Lukas "Well perhaps this is merely a coincidental piece of the puzzle and not a clue at all, though given the prominence of other personal and private pieces I think it probably is pertinent." he walked away from Lukas in thought, idly tossing the knife and catching it by the blade. "No less, having seen this, it no longer has purpose here and having something so dangerous will certainly not be necessary in this competition."

He thrust the knife up to the heavens "Zero I demand you remove this knife from the game!" he called out to nothing in particular.

Maximillion is asked by an attendant over the speakers to place the knife into a drop box by one of the doors.

It has been removed.

"Well, with that sorted I'd like to check out the theatre. You're welcome to join me," The Emissary said, before heading off to see what was up with the apparently edited movie.

A tall blonde woman in her 30's stood a distance from the group. She wore a black dress, black boots, and a white fur coat. A blue and yellow bird sat on her shoulder. "Most of you already know, but my name is Stella, and this is my companion, Cousteau," she said, indicating the bird.

"For the record, I requested the day swap in the last round," she continued, regardless of whatever the current topic was. "Obviously things didn't work out as I'd hoped, but I see little sense in dwelling on it. Maximilion has already made his decision."

The now-familiar sounds of Embers to Ashes could be heard coming from the theatre. Afterwards it switched over to The Emissary.

A little after that, the man calling himself The Emissary walked out of the theatre. He was fumbling as he tried to put his mask back on, though he was covered enough that no-one could see his features still. "Apart from Pink, we are all here and introduced now, then," he said, finally managing to set the straps right. "That should be everything from the two rooms covered, I believe?"

Maximillion nodded "Almost, I hope the films were to your liking. Did you glean any additional insight from them?" he looked over towards Hazel "You also seem content to leave the conundrum of Madame Hazel a mystery. Something happened to her, which has me quite concerned but...if you don't want to talk about it Madame I won't press you."

"Ah, it's as Ember said. The leader actor is very different from Naught, and some of the scenes have clearly been reshot. It also seems as though Iris was delivering her lines differently, somehow... It was a strange experience," The Emissary explained. "I feel sorry for anyone here for whom that was their first viewing of Embers to Ashes. It is quite simply not up to the standards set by the original!"

“Hazel’s ‘special problem’ is a photo on the floor of the parlor. It seems like she’s staring off into space again so if somebody wanted to grab it and bring everybody up to speed now would be the time.” Luka suggested, through really JM just thought it made sense that all the players had the mystery clues available.

[Everyone is able to find the old photo of Hazel. It looks like a woman surrounded by nine children. On the back are the kids' names and when they died. The oldest ones died in their thirties nearly a hundred years ago. Hazel is the only person pictured who seems to be alive.]

[The group ponders for a while before recalling a few things:

The hand statue in the theater, which seems to be missing a ring, the windchimes outside each window in the parlor, and the door requiring a three-letter word to open.]

"Oh wait, there is something we forgot to mention." Luka shook his head as his memory was jogged from being back in the room. "We found this book about, well I'll just give the back-of-the-box summary."

Spoiler:
The book is handwritten and talks about how ghosts communicate with people through various means. It seems to be written in a spiritual manner, like a religious text.

They describe how there are green rocks that can communicate with the dead, and how they make strange noises, which are the voices of the damned.

They also talk about how certain birds with very musical voices, comfort people and bring them back to nature, which is why their songs are used at funerals and the like.

"I'm not sure how relevant it is, but through my own research I've found out about shit like the morphogenetic field which is actually really, really dope but I doubt anybody is in the mood to hear it. And the bird they're talking about is probably the symphonic warbler, don't even get me started on that."

Luka scratched the back of his head. "Now that I think about it, that item could've been targeted to me too. Seems a little coincidental that some niche topic I researched came up here but I guess it could just be the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon."

"Oh, now you've reminded me of something too," The Emissary added. "While I was in the theatre I noticed a statue of a hand, missing a ring. We found a very strange ring in the parlour that didn't get used for anything. Might as well see what happens."

Saying this, he got the ring from whoever currently had it, went back to the theatre and tried putting it on the statue. Anyone looking would see that the ring had an unusual large, green rock set into it.

*Click*

The door next to the statue opens...

The next room appears to be a dining space, decorated in a way that's quite old fashioned, with wood-colored trim along the walls. A single page from a magazine sits on the dining table, surrounded by an array of snacks and drinks. A glittering chandelier gives he space a warm, comforting feeling. There are nine seats at the dining table.

On one side of the room, there's a tiny table with a small plastic machine, like an old game console, with wires coming out of it. At the end of each wire is a buzzer. Sitting on top of the machine is a card.

The card says, "Round 3 Instructions" on it.

The Emissary stumbled back in shock when the door opened, falling right over. He stared at the new room from his position on the floor for an extended period, before collecting himself and getting up to explore. "I was not expecting that, let me tell you... I was sure we'd need to figure out what the other door was first."

The note is read aloud:

"Round 3: The Quiz Bowl

This round consists of three questions:

1. One of the people in the magazine clipping on the table died: What did they die of?

2. An article in one of the previous rooms described the disappearance of two teenagers: What were their names?

3. A book in one of the previous rooms described a species which is now living only in captivity: What was the prevailing cause of death for a huge number of them 10-15 years ago?

You may hit your buzzer at any time (no other player can hit the buzzer for you). At this time you will secretly answer all three questions. For additional points, provide three players who will get the question right and three players who get the question wrong.

Correct answers get $20,000. If you are in the first three people to buzz in, you get an additional $20,000 per right answer. If you are in the middle three people to buzz in, you get an additional $10,000 per right answer. Additionally, for each question, if you can name six players, three who will get that question wrong, and three who will get it right, you will get $40,000 points for that question.

The overall winner of this round will receive an additional $100,000. Good luck!"

The magazine clipping reads:

"Dream Wedding: Wesley Naught Sweeps Iris DuGrande Off Her Feet!"

The article features many candid photos of Wesley Naught and Iris DuGrande on their wedding day. Laughing, enjoying one another's company, and having a good time. The two of them look dazzling in their clothes. The article talks about how prior to this, Iris lived far in the country. It talks about how marrying Wesley is a huge break for her career.

The article seems to belong to a publication called the Hollywood Informant. At the bottom is the author: Ember Ohring.

"Oh. Oh no, I can't believe that's here." Ember stared at the magazine clipping, putting a hand on her forehead. "Look, those gossip mag articles, that's just for paying the bills, okay? If you want to see work I'm glad to have my name on, you can check my film reviews online, just don't read that magazine."

"Ah...a general knowledge round. Not my most favoured of 'games' if it can truly be called one." Maximillion said dejectedly.

He idly picked at the snacks on the table "Either you know the answers going in or you do not. There is nothing to learn or master in the process." He clicked his tongue and smiled in spite of the situation "Nonetheless, this spread is definitely a most delightful and delectable design that I daresay will make a fine dinner to devour!" He raised his hands in mock prayer to Zero before beginning to eat.

"Funny kind of 'general knowledge'," The Emissary responded darkly. "Each and every question is about death. A celebrity who died, two teenagers who might have died, and thousands of magical birds which all died. Just what is Zero playing at?"

Less than five minutes after the round starts, the group hears someone hit the buzzer.

It's Hazel. The group watches as she scribbles down her answers and places them in the box for review.

"...Perhaps I should have waited to garner information before inputting my answers", Hazel murmured, looking quite regretful. "I was simply going early because the thought of losing out on the extra money was worrying to me... That said, I am not confident in most of my responses." She shook her head with disappointment. "Alas, I am afraid that I shall hardly benefit from this. If it pleases you all though, you may add me to the list of people who will get the questions wrong. It shall most likely help out." She sighed. "If any of you know the answers as well, I suppose it would be beneficial to divulge it."

“See what I mean?” Luka spat. “All she accomplished was keeping deserving people from getting more money. And she was one of the suspects in the apple heist.”

He turned from the table. “Any more of this shit and I’m gonna be thinking the senile old hag is just Zero putting on an act.”

“This was... certainly a strange act to take, but if nothing else, she couldn’t have done anything in the second day of the previous game,” Astrid pointed out.

She then collapsed into one of the chairs, clearly exhausted, and helped herself to a small plate of food.

“Now now, I’m sure Madame Hazel has hoards of historic knowledge and experience to help her handle any situation, let’s not write her off as a serious competitor.” Maximillion piped up as he stacked his plate from across the table. “That said, these questions do feel more like ‘specific’ knowledge than general. Does make one wonder how much Madame Hazel might be hiding to answer so confidently so quickly.” He said gazing at a cocktail sausage with the adoration of a loved one.

At the moment Astrid sits down with her food, she hits the buzzer and inputs her answers.

The Emissary, seemingly waiting for her to do so, is close behind, buzzing in.

Luka is extremely fast on buzzing in as well, but doesn't buzz in as fast as the Emissary, unfortunately for him.

The remaining five are left to ponder their choices.

"Hazel did recognise you, Maximillion," The Emissary pointed out a little breathlessly. "I expect she does possess knowledge we may find surprising."

He turned to stare at the food, but with his mask in the way he couldn't actually partake. "And Luka, no hard feelings I hope. Truthfully I had wanted to work with you on this one, but with Hazel's interference... Well, I had to expedite things."
