Noticing her older brother who just arrived and the continued commotion, Twilip walks over to Maurice and gives him a pat on the back. "Ah, Maurice! It has been ages since I've last seen you, hasn't it?"

Zach just stood there dumbfounded for a good five minutes, just taking in all that had gone on since he had whispered to Robin. He vaguely heard Billy's dejection, Robin's conversation with Violet, Maurice's entrance and James' asking him and Bertram for a small loan of $10,000,000 . . . he was only broken from his thoughts when Billy jumped into Robin's and Violet's music discussion.

He slowly made his way over to the three by the refreshment table, grabbing a clean glass of water for himself and downing it before speaking.

"Mister Billy? I'm sorry I misjudged you earlier. If Mama says you're cool, I th-think I can trust her . . . " He still sounded unsure, but went forward with it anyway. "You were curious about my things, and I denied your curiosity because of preconceived notions. I . . . I'm truly sorry."

He reached into his bag, searching for a particular device. Once he found it, he procured it and closed the bag again. He flipped a small switch on the device and a quiet, steady, but slightly-harsh tone began to emanate from it. He turned a dial on the device and the pitch of the tone raised and then lowered. He deactivated the device before it got too annoying, then began to explain.

"This is a tone generator. It uses various electrical components to create a certain pattern which is transmitted to the speaker. Depending on the components used, the sound and pitch can be quite different. Using other components, the basic sound can be modified in interesting ways. Mix other things with this, a-and you can create some pretty interesting sounds . . . I think."
Thank you for reading. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Upon hearing what Zachary said about the electronic devices, Vincent nods his head.

"Ah, so that's what you're working on, Zach. We should work out what kind of gig we'd performs for Auntie Gloria later..." He replied, giving his cousin a warm smile.

"Yes, I do apologize for the delay," Briggs nodded, unable to completely hide his sarcasm. "I carefully selected each morsel of cheese to fit the palates of all shapes and sizes here. For instance, I have brought some string cheese and a bottle of milk for Miss Wyn."

"Ten albums? That's..." Vincent stammered, confused by Billy's statement about the albums. "I'm not sure if you're exaggerating or not... But.... Did you even poured your soul into those albums? And your albums being free... That's not how the music business work, dude..."

"Music not about stuffy business suits and making money," Uncle Billy replied, "It about creating art and sharing good vibes. Though if music is livelihood for you, I understand why you'd feel that way. Your albums probably better than mine!"

Seeing that the cheese had arrived, Billy took a modest helping, leaving plenty for the others. Then he poured himself a glass of the most expensive-looking wine. When Zachary approached, he flinched slightly but managed not to spill anything.

"Oh, no worries, Zack! Sometimes I come on a little strong. Can be frightening to some people. You can consider slate unblemished."

"Wow, this much more complex than anything I make," Billy said, eyeing Zachary's tone generator. "You must be real titan of tinkering! You could probably make even crazier new instrument by adding onto this!"

Billy's eyes widened at Vincent's comment.

"Oh, can I get in on gig?" Uncle Billy asked, "I bring my instrument with me."

“Yes, instrument! Is right here.”

Uncle Billy hooked his foot around the handle of his discarded instrument case and pulled it closer. He then leaned down and opened it up, taking out the coolest instrument anyone had ever seen.

It was a slick keytar decorated with a bright, psychedelic pattern with a thick leather strap attached to the back. However, the thing looked like it had survived three world wars, with tape holding several parts of it together.

“I save up long time for this instrument. Is tons of fun to play!”

Family Dinner

[THEME MUSIC]

The guests all retire for a while to their rooms, while the three servants prepare the dining hall for dinner. Everyone in the house peacefully tire out the afternoon. Even in spite of their fighting, there's something nice about the nostalgia of it all. Maybe just for one day everyone can just enjoy being with family...

* * *

The glowing red-tinged sun casts light through the large, ornate dining room window. Stained red and yellow glass cause colors to mix and shimmer on everyone's faces as they enter the dining hall.

As every family member enters, Gloria gives them an awkward, one-armed hug (the other hand holds a fistful of cherry tomatoes). She has retired her sunhat for large, designer sunglasses, which cover almost her entire face.

Her children are assigned the chairs closest to her at the head of the table. First Bertram, then across the table from him is Basil. Then Maurice and Twilip are across from one another. Zachary is across from Billy. After those two are Robin, who clearly strongly receives Gloria's favor, and Lucine. Violet and Asher come next in the order. After that, Vincent and James. At the very end is Wyn and Jacqueline. A chair sits empty at the foot of the table.

Of course, the order is approximately as it usually is, with Gloria's bloodline right in front of her, but the weird and egregious thing is Billy's placement in the center of the family.

"Alright my loves! Let's see what the servants have prepared! Let's enjoy a feast!" Gloria coos.

"Ah, Auntie Gloria, before we get to enjoying the feast... I got a question." Vincent speaks up as he gestured towards the empty chair. "What's up with the empty chair?"

After he asked the question, he glares at Billy, making a mental note to talk to him about the keytar.

Basil sighed, noting how far down the table his family was as he picked up his knife and fork to cut into his food. Seemingly less happy about having to sit between Maurice and Bertram.

"Food looks great mum. I see Archer's skills haven't gotten rusty." he took a moment to swallow his food. "How have you been anyway Lippy?" He asked looking over to Twilip. "It's been a while since I've seen you all."

"Ah! Twilip." A brief expression of shock was momentarily present on Maurice's face before it subsided. "I see you haven't changed much at all. Yes, it has been a while. 15 years, to be exact, and I can tell they've treated you quite well." He shook his head.

They couldn't make it?" he asked taking a sip from his glass happy to have a less-snooty conversation companion.

"Ah, Basil." Maurice gave a polite nod. "My accounting business is going well, thank you for asking. I see you're the same as ever, hm?"

They probably had some small chat after that which doesn't matter because dinner time lol.

Maurice had taken a seat at the table, looking quite famished. "Finally, dinner time. It has been long enough..." He gave a glare in Billy's direction, still confused as to his presence. "I hope the food here is as good as I remember it to be. If that's the one good thing I could give to this house, it was well-managed."

Asher remained silent for the most part. Thankfully, he was seated next to Violet, so he didn't feel too uncomfortable due to her being there. But still, he did feel rather out of place, so he'd just stay quiet as he ate.

James decides to eat the most expensive food and drink on the table. He doesn't have much to say at the moment so he just decides to thank Gloria for the food and continue eating.

Seeing that it might be some time before he'd get an answer from Gloria about the empty chair, Vincent lets out a sigh as he looks toward Billy.

"Seriously, Billy? You haven't been taking good care of your keytar... You should've seen my guitar." Vincent said, bringing up the topic of Billy's keytar. "I took perfectly good care of it. But still..."

He first looks in Zachary's direction and then in Robin's direction. "Zach, Robin... What do you think? Should we let Billy be part of the gig that we'll be performing for Auntie Gloria?" He asked, addressing the two.

"Oh, Vincent! So you wanna know about thaaaaat empty chair?!" Gloria asks in and over-the-top drawn-out way.

"That's my sweet Peregrine's chair! Back when it was just me and him and the babies, he used to tend to the youngest children down at the far end of the table! Oh how I miss holding him!"

"He's passed on to the Golden Land, but that does not mean that he can't visit for family dinner! He's here spiritually, so please everyone keep your manners!"

Robin, though quite happy to be sitting next to her husband, felt a pang of sympathy at Wyn and Jacqueline being separated from their spouses at the opposite end of the table. It was unfair, and rather blatantly so, but she wouldn't dream of speaking up about it here. Instead, she stayed quiet until Vincent asked her and Zach about Billy.

"I don't see why not," Robin chirped. "The more, the merrier! Besides, I've never heard what a keytar sounds like in person."

She looked to Billy. "What kind of music do you play?"

Vincent winced at Gloria's way of answering his question.

"Of course, that answers my question. Thank you, Auntie Gloria. Can't believe that I completely forgot about uncle Peregrine." Vincent said as he got to take a bite out of his meal.

"If we did not leave an empty chair for grandfather, he wouldn't be able to visit." Lucine elucidated. "Even if he is lonely in the Golden Land, it would be bad manners to show up when a seat hasn't even been prepared for you."

That last part was accompanied by a quick sidelong glance at good old uncle Billy, who indeed had a seat prepared for him. You are not hallucinating, Lucine.

Archer smiles at any praises of the food. "It's an honour to receive such kind words. I thank you." He says with a solemn nod.

Then, he silently approaches Billy's seat, though maintaining some distance. "Sir Billy, if I may, I would like to inform you that we could serve extra cheese with your meal if so desired."

Bertram seemed predisposed for some reason, not paying much attention to the conversations around him. He took a bite of come particularly crunchy celery, before being brought out of his revere by his daughter's voice.

"I'm sure father would be delighted to see all his children together again," he said, before returning to his ruminations.

Billy ignored the glares from various family members and focused on enjoying the meal. However, he made numerous disgusting breaches in table etiquette. For example, he ate beans using his salad fork!!!!

"Wow, zillions of thanks for wonderful meal, Gloria. And butlers of course!" Billy said, "This so much better than prepackaged food from grocery store. Can't believe you people eat this stuff all the time!"

Robin listened to Billy with fascination, and then her eyes drifted over to her niece. "Oh, right! I forgot to mention. Lucine here is a talented young pianist herself! Lucine-" she offered the girl a reassuring smile as she spoke- "You're free to join us, too, if you'd like. We were thinking of playing a song together after dinner."

Archer steps outside and opens the front door slowly, with a loud creak...

The stranger had been approaching the manor with slow, deliberate footsteps, a duffel bag slung over his shoulder. He stopped as he arrived at the base of the stairs that led up to the front door, seeing Archer open it. He looked up at him contemplatively and took a deep inhale of his hand-rolled cigarette, blowing the smoke out as if he were in a photo shoot.

The man's very presence would put anyone on edge. His hair was shaved into a buzzcut, and it was clear he had little effort put into his appearance. He had studded earrings and some sort of tribal necklace, but they seemed to be haphazard additions to his wardrobe rather than a deliberate choice.

His pants and jacket were simple but functional, but all he wore as an undershirt was a wife-beater that was stained yellow with sweat. His skin was severely sunburnt and damaged--dead skin flakes hanging off of his body begging to be picked.

"Yo, Archie!" He smiled at the servant, though his teeth were dirty and stained so it probably wasn't as pleasant as he believed. "Just who I was hoping to see."

The man made no effort to go up the stairs yet, seemingly waiting for an invitation. "Wanna do me a favor, bro? Tell everyone I'm back."

There was a boom of thunder so loud that it shook the manor for a moment. A storm was coming...

Basil swallowed his food and dabbed his face with his napkin "Mmm yes actually! I guess you must have lost the invite? Yes that's my darling wife down there, Wynnie." he put his fork down and waved down the table at Wyn. "We had a lovely ceremony about two years ago. She was a vital support following Diane's death and, well it just turned into something beautiful."

Before the feast . . .

Zach's eyes lit up almost as brightly as when Robin said yes.

"Oh. My. Gosh! A keytar!? That thing's gotta be filled with some pretty complex things. I bet it sounds amazing! Looks a bit beat-up though . . . " He clapped his hands together. "I bet I could do something about that. But not now, and certainly not without your full consent. Let's talk - and jam - later, okay?"

And now back to the present.

Zachary looked around the table, a bit puzzled by why he had been sat next to his wife, but the others were literally as far away from theirs as possible. He ate his food in silence, nodding approvingly at how delectable it was. He would've probably joined in the conversation, but there was so much going on that he just couldn't really find a place to jump in.
Thank you for reading. I hope you have a wonderful day.
100% pure Joy.
Excellent source of puns.
Refrigerate after opening.

"...Oh, my, did anyone else hear that loud clap of thunder?" Briggs puffed as he returned to the dining room, shoving a cigarette into his pocket. "Allister, do you want me to get you a blankie?"

Archer looked at the newcomer for a few moments before nodding, and opening the front doors all the way.

"Understood. ...Should I.. take your bags?" Archer adjusted his collar with one hand and kept the other by his side. "Welcome home." he quietly adds.

"Whoa... Did anyone hear that?" Vincent asked the others, referencing to the thunder that they heard.

Wyn looks across the table at Jacqueline with a pleased expression.

"Miss Jacqueline, darling! I didn't get to greet you before, it's been a while since I've last seen you. How's family life? You've three kids, right? You must be quite the busy woman!"

"Oh!"

Pierre wrote:
"Mmm yes actually! I guess you must have lost the invite? Yes that's my darling wife down there, Wynnie." he put his fork down and waved down the table at Wyn.

Wyn waves back at him coyly before turning her attention back to Jacqueline.
"Isn't Zilly such a sweetheart? I can't believe he finally brought me to the manor! Well, I guess I can believe it...He does like to spoil me, after all." She adds with a small giggle.

"T-That's not funny, Briggs..." Allister complained. "I'm not scared..." Despite what he said, the boy seemed to be trembling slightly.

"Ah, I see, I see." Maurice nodded solemnly. "I'm sorry to hear, Basil. It probably shouldn't have taken this long for me to learn about this, admittedly. That said, I'm glad your, er, 'Wynnie' is making you happy. As well as your children, presumably", he added, eyeing Violet and Asher. "This manor is quite the place too. I hope your family has a lovely time here."

As the thunder sounded, he flinched. "Good grief... A storm is brewing out tonight, isn't it? Thank goodness we're all here, at least..."
