"I believe the killer simply poisoned some of the food, not knowing for sure who would be affected. I don't think the murders will stop now, either, not unless we catch the killer. For all we know, I or my siblings might well be targeted next. If that's not the motive, then all of us are potentially in danger! All the more reason to catch the person, or people, responsible," Bertram replied to James. "The will may well tell us nothing, but unless anyone has any better ideas - and no, Mickey's rambling doesn't count - then I suggest we at least start there."

He stopped searching for a tool for a moment, instead chuckling to himself and addressing Bertram. "Why do you think they were smiling? That seems like witch-shit to me. Unless all of them were so happy they died--to be free from this porcelain cage you built around them."

"Well... perhaps the letter could be related, even if "Witches" aren't involved here", Maurice suggested. "Somebody could just be deluded and confusing our mother with somebody else, and thus swearing to deliver their vengeance to everyone here as a result... Or something like that, anyways." He shrugged. "Then, perhaps they could simply be targeting people by random... which is quite the dangerous game to play."

Basil had been cradling Wyn in his arms beside Asher, still clearly unsure what to say on the matter when James' words snapped him out of it.

Winston Payne wrote:
"If this is an inheritance case wouldn't the sons be the most likely suspects as they would be the ones receiving the bulk of the inheritance and therefore would have the most to gain from Gloria's passing."

He gave James a wild look leaving his family aside for a second "You mean to suggest I would MURDER MY OWN DAUGHTER for a pile of money?!"

"I'll KILL YOU! YOU BASTARD!"

Basil lunged across the room grabbing James by the throat in a blatant attempt to murder the scoundrel.

Bertram opened his mouth to reply, then realised he couldn't actually explain that and frowned instead.

"Is it possible to arrange their expressions post-mortem? I admit I've never heard of such a thing... But really, magic of all things? Preposterous! We need to keep level heads if we're to get through this."

With some irritation, Bertram turned to stare out a window to avoid looking at Mickey. The storm raged on, showing no signs of calming. "We may be here a while... It's quite possible we will be stuck here, isolated from the outside world, for days. It is my belief that-"

"Brother, please stop speaking nonsense about what you do not understand." Lucine said, returning to where everyone else is having their discussion. "'Witches' wouldn't have anything to do with money, grandmother said they can turn wood into gold."

“Yea, it’s never about the money.” He laughed again, though this time it seemed like he was about to cry. “We’ll kill each other like rats in a cage before any of you THINK about giving up the money.”

The ‘rats in a cage’ comment was clearly directed at the ensuing fight between Basil and James. But he made no effort to stop it.

James starting flailing about desperately tried to Basil's hands from his neck. "Hey come on now, let's be civil here. I never specifically said it was you, in fact out of the sons you're probably the least likely suspect. I was just proposing a theory because if we don't catch this murderer then more people could die. Is that what you want?"

James was now certain that Basil wouldn't let go so he decided to take the cigarette he was smoking out of his mouth and pressed it against Basil's hands.

Twilip walks into the room where most seem to have found themselves, taking a few pauses between each sloppy step to stretch a little. She yawns and takes one more step. "Ahh, good mo-" She immediately notices Basil going for James and simply stands bewildered.

"ARRGGGH! YOU BASTARD!" He reeled back the hand that had been burned releasing James' collar...briefly. His other hand maintained a tight grip on James' collar and Basil wound his burned-hand back into a fist and pulled James into a straight punch right onto James' face, smashing into his gaudy sunglasses.

James tried one last time to plead for his life, "What would Auntie Gloria think about this? Knowing that her family are now nothing but a bunch of murderers huh?"

With another blow Basil hurled James to the ground. a quiet aww echoed around the audience as it became clear he wouldn't murder James.

"MAYBE MOTHER ALREADY DID KNOW! MAYBE SHE COULDN'T BEAR THE SHAME OF HAVING SCUM LIKE YOU IN THE FAMILY! YOU'RE THE MOST MONEY-HUNGRY ONE OF THE LOT OF US! The one with nothing to LOOOOOOOOSE!" he spat pacing around James on the floor. "Just look at that cheap suit, like you've never dirtied your hands for money before? What's a couple family members in the way of a few millions?!" He gave James one last kick in the ribs for good measure before realising the tears were streaming down his eyes.

"I...I...I just can't right now." he uttered walking off to the window so he wouldn't have to look at James.

"... As I was saying," Lucine said, watching James get beat the fuck up, "unless the culprit is hiding out there in that storm, I feel like it's clear they are one of us. If uncle James has a motive, then..."

She nervously shifted her weight from side to side for a moment, though still keeping the same blank expression on her face. "As much as I loathe to say it, I believe brother might know what I am trying to say."

With Basil's punch Twilip lets out a sudden. "Alright, I think the little leach has had the fear of go-" And as Basil doesn't kill James she falls dead silent and backs into a corner, unsure of what to make of what just happened.

After Zach was left - abandoned, he might claim later - to wallow and cry out his emotions for the next ten minutes, he stood up from the couch rather mechanically and headed to his room - the very room he last saw Robin alive.

He picked up his satchel, set it down on a table in the room, and flipped it open. Various homemade gadgets filled the bag to the brim, along with whatever Zachary had brought for the gathering; he'd planned to stay a night or two, but it certainly seemed he wouldn't be leaving anytime soon.

After picking up and staring at his tone generator solemnly for another minute, the thought briefly crossed his mind to throw it against a wall. Nothing in that bag held any meaning anymore . . . but Zachary knew that wasn't what Robin would have wanted. Instead, he returned the device to the bag and procured a DIY flashlight.

Moments later, he'd made it to the cellar, attempting to steel himself for the scene he was about to lay eyes upon again. He began searching around the area, looking for any sign of what might've happened here. He'd leave the corpse display for last, but knew he'd inevitably have to get close to it.
Thank you for reading. I hope you have a wonderful day.

"Lucine is right. I cannot imagine there is anyone else on this island. As I was saying earlier, this storm isn't abating. We're going to be trapped here for a while. That is why... I believe we may have to take matters into our own hands," Bertram said solemnly. "I have a gun in my study. There is a person or group here willing to kill 5 of us in one night, and perhaps more if we don't stop them. We need to make sure they can't harm anyone ever again."

The words were slightly comforting, from what she could actually understand from it. Nothing they could have done. Even if that was so, she so desperately wished she could. And the possibility that she could have haunted her to no end. She gulped down the lump in her throat, trying to process the sickening thoughts within her head as she followed Bertram.

Basil lunged across the room grabbing James by the throat in a blatant attempt to murder the scoundrel.

The sudden outburst broke Jacqueline completely from her thoughts, reality soon sinking in as she gasped in horror. Seeing Basil practically try to end the other's life sent her into an overwhelming panic. "P-PLEASE S-STOP THIS!! PLEASE!" She took a few steps forward, wanting to break them apart but too paralyzed with fear to go any further. As they soon broke away from each other and James made his way back to his room, Jacqueline reached her hands up and massaged the sides of her head. Her heart was beating so fast that she could feel it pulse through her skull.

Wyn sobs in her handkerchief, still unable to face the disastrous current situation.

"How could this have happened?" Wyn whimpers. "Violet... I'm so sorry, Basil. You were right, we should have left as soon as possible... But now is the time to calm down. We don't want any more people to get hurt!" She says, reaching for her husband.

Basil was barely holding himself up on the window sill as is but upon hearing Violet's name from Wyn, his knees buckled and he just sank sobbing into the window sill. He gently tilted his head towards Wyn as she placed a hand on his shoulder to comfort him but said little more.

Twilip eyes widen. Her head begins swaying back and forth, scanning the room and coming to the realization as to why certain family members aren't there. As she sees Basil crying on the windowsill her face goes blank as the realization of what has happened dawns on her.

Seeing Basil lunge at James gave Asher pause, but he didn’t make any attempt to stop him. Partially because he was still in shock, and partially because it was James he was assaulting.

Wyn gently rubs his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. "We're going to figure this out together, okay? We...we'll find an answer to this. I promise." She says, wrapping her arms around his head.

Bertram sighed. "Look, I know this is hard, but we need to focus. If no-one wants to look for the will, we can start by going over our actions last night. Speaking of which... where's Zachary gotten to? I wanted to ask him something."

“In any case, last night, I stayed in. Studying and listening to music and whatnot. Had I known this would have happened, I...”

He sighed, letting his voice trail off.

“... Last I saw Uncle Zachary, Mickey and I laid him down on a couch outside of the cellar. After we... we carried him out after he fainted.”

Once James had finished cleaning up his wounds. He decided to go back to the others but this time he stood by the doorway and he made sure not to get too close to them. "Hey guys did you miss me? We're talking about alibis huh? Well after we found Gloria's body, I went back to my room. I read a book and then went to sleep."

Lucine nodded at her father, pulling a chair to sit down (I think there are chairs around here?). "... Last night, well, was a little frightened. Because of grandmother... So I went to see mother. I went back to my room to sleep after that, however."

Summing up all the resolve he could, Basil rose back to his feet. He turned and smiled slightly at Wyn "Now...now dear, you don't need to be sad. It'll be alright." he said wiping away his own tears as he leaned down to pull her into an embrace. "Thank you, so much Wyn. I don't know what I'd do without you."

He gently leaned out of the embrace and gave Wyn a small kiss. Over Wyn's head he spotted James re-entering the room and cast daggers at him but maintained his composure. "Let's just...lets try and get to the bottom of this." He said with effort before moving back to the others.

Bertram looked annoyed for a moment, before conceding the point. "We'll only do it if enough of us agree. In the absence of the law, we'll have to be our own jury. Majority only. I suppose we can put it to a vote when the time comes."

Twilip steps forward from her corner and speaks up. "After heading to my room last night i stayed there until the little incident just now." She looks around at those currently in the room. "And if it is not too much to ask..." She takes a pretty long pause and begins to shake ever so slightly. "W-who was killed?"

He walked over to Lucine’s chair, bending slightly down beside her. He pulled her in close, so the siblings were cheek to cheek. “Still. I wonder if you’d stand behind these votes if they decided Luce was next to go.”

Bertram scoffed at that. "There's no way a 13 year-old girl is responsible for these murders. Why, anyone who'd suggest such a thing is probably in league with whoever killed the others! I have no concern that it will come to that."

"Oh dear. No-one told you, then? I'm afraid it's bad. Violet, Briggs, Robin and Billy have all been... All the same way, too. No wounds that I can tell, none of them look like they were in pain; actually, they're all... smiling, for some reason. It's quite unnerving, I will admit. They're in the cellar, but it might be best for you to stay clear of there. It's not a pleasant sight. They brought mother down there too, I can only assume she died in the same way. Detestable human beings, whoever's behind this. I don't believe in witches, but they may as well be, for all their lacking humanity!"

"You would say that, wouldn't you? You may well be innocent, but I'm sure I'm not alone in saying you seem the most suspicious out of all of us. No, I think a half-hearted response will only lead to more victims. By nightfall we will have our target. It's the only way."
