Chris Morris is kind of an established comedian, here in England. He's responsible for the epic Brass Eye, which reached legendary proportions for totally f**king with the British media/political powers and exposing the prior mentioned to be a huge stream of bullshit.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/profiles/chris_morris.shtml

Even if he's lost his touch since Nathan Barley, he's still very much seen as a bigshot in the world of British Comedy. You know, that one that's better than American Comedy, which is basically a mish-mash of lameduck Monty Python references.

If you'd known anything of popular British satire/comedy in the last ten or twenty years, this guy is nothing but a carbon copy of an early Chris Morris, be it radio show or television parody. The accent he's using almost confirms it, and I'd know this sort of thing, I'M A BRITFAG.

Since I'm assuming you don't know this, being an American who's sense of humour can't stretch beyond MSPaint comical sketches, a British accent, and uber nerdy video-game jokes that have no real rhyme or reason, I'm going to ignore this as basic sarcasm.

Which the Americans were incapable of, until Monty Python fagged it up, Stateside.

And tinyosi, seriously. You couldn't shame yourself any further here if you tried, so don't agree with people for the sake of trying to make BEST FRIEND 4EVA. Especially when you have no concept of what this debate is all about.

More to the point, if this fellow is so popular, why has no-one bothered to leave comment of him. And besides which, why did you double-post to bump your own dying topic?

I think I'm done, here.

...who the hell pissed in your Cheerios today? Seriously, calm the hell down.

First of all, I'm a huge fan of most British comedy that I find--I love the mostly dry wit and actual clever jokes that are sadly nowhere to be found in 95% of American comedy. My favorite comedian of all time is Eddie Izzard (seen him live twice, own all of his CDs), I thoroughly enjoyed Fawlty Towers and Blackadder (not so much the first series, but the second through fourth were great). Admittedly, I only know the more popular stuff like what I've mentioned because it's rarer over here.

Oh, and even though it's not a comedy per se, Doctor Who still remains one of my favorite television shows and I thoroughly enjoy the comedic side of it.

So get the HELL off your high horse.

More to the point--no, I'd never heard of the guy you linked before. I'm not actually sure which of the two in the video was supposed to be the comedian, to be honest. It was amusing and made me chuckle, certainly... but that's it. If you have other videos of this guy I'll certainly check them out, but the one you linked didn't really do it for me. I'm very willing to learn about new comedians, because I like good ones and British comedians usually tend to appeal to my sense of humor.

And as for the guy I linked? Well, first of all... how can you tell he's a carbon copy because he's 'using an accent'? Uh... isn't it possible for it to be his ACTUAL accent? He's British-born and lives in Australia, so obviously he's going to have some sort of an accent in his speech. And hell, even if he IS influenced by your comedian, it's not necessarily a conscious rip-off--sometimes when I tell jokes I notice that my speech style starts to resemble that of Eddie Izzard or Mitch Hedberg (depending on the style of the joke) because... well, I listen to them and find them funny (most of the time. Hedberg (RIP) was incredibly hit or miss).

Plus--I'm a gamer. Game journalism is my JOB, my career. The content in the videos covers subjects I'm interested in and familiar with, and so it's funnier to me because of that (because he's incredibly, incredibly right). And hell, I think the minimalist style of the visuals really supports the ranting in a way that most comedy 'video reviewers' never get right.

Did I ever say he was popular? He's well-known for some other stuff he's done but at the moment, no, his videos aren't popular because nobody KNOWS about them. And I was trying to increase awareness because he's fucking hilarious.

So, in conclusion:

A.) Off the high horse.
B.) Calm the fuck down.
C.) More videos of your guy so I can judge more properly.

I actually find him far funnier than the AVGN. He's a lot more witty and a lot less "lol I'm pissed off and swearing at the game." AVGN does it well for that, but Ramblomatic is just more clever about it.

Well, they are different on what they do. FullyRamblomatic's take on the Resident Evil 5 trailer proves this enough.
There was nothing clever about the Angry Video Game Nerd yet he provided much more entertainment for me.

Well, I'm sorry, Mr. Pro-Gamer. But I don't do internet arguments, especially over video-games. Not my bag.

I tried being 'hilarious?' I admit I was obviously joking, but it wasn't anything serious. You're the one who wrote the first wall of text in response to a three-word-statement I made. With that, it's not hard to see why I interpreted you as being actually upset.

Baki-Kun wrote:

...wasn't that your argument? That it was just a cheap imitation of your guy and you could tell by the accent? They seemed to me to be completely different styles of comedy, so other than that I have no idea what the hell you're trying to get at O.o

...when the hell did we get into an argument over a video-game? And, uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't PW itself a game? I have no idea how what you said relates to ANY of this, because we weren't arguing video-games in the first place.

Point A = High Horse... let's see. I admitted I wasn't familiar with your guy and asked to see more because maybe I'd enjoy those. I explained why I found Yahtzee funny (hey, jokes about a subject you're interested in! Whoo!) and I did so calmly and without getting upset. Point B? I'm still not upset or less-than-calm in any way (and I never was), just bewildered at the force of your reply over something you agree is rather trivial.

Oh, and as for my comment about your High Horse:

Quote:

Oh... did you NOT say all of those? In that case, my mistake--because those quotes certainly show a rather elitist attitude that I would probably call a "High Horse."

So let's review this, shall we?

Step 1.) I post a link to a video I find quite amusing, and bump when it's about to get pushed off the first page because I feel more people should see it.

Step 2.) You respond with either hostility or sarcasm right off the bat and post your own videos, claiming my source is simply an inferior version of the comedian in those videos.

Step 3.) I interpret it as sarcasm and respond with my own, sarcastic statement.

Step 4.) You (appear to) react in a manner completely out of proportion with the subject at hand, saying that I don't know anything about British popular comedy and that American comedy is all a piece of shit (which I still don't quite get how that's relevant, seeing as Yahtzee is British-Australian...)

Step 5.) I explain that I'm at least somewhat familiar with recent British pop comedy, explain why I liked Yahtzee's videos better, ask for more of your guy since I can't properly judge, and am in general confused by the vehemence of your reaction.

Step 6.) You interpret it (somehow) as ME getting angry, worked up, and elitist (even though I never ONCE tried to say that my sense of humor or taste was superior to yours--which you most certainly did) and respond to my points with things that.... honestly don't make sense. Then, you proceed to simply dismiss the argument as a waste of your time, even though you're the one who started it.

...yeah, that's about right.

Seriously... I can't be the only one to be all 'WTF?' at how completely disproportionate his reaction was to the topic at hand, can I? This is just ludicrous.

You seem rather over-excited by this, is all.

And I feel awful for having you spend all this time discussing my psyché, stemming from a negative comment toward a YouTube video you liked.

I think this is the sort of thing that would be best discussed in the same room, in person. Right now, I'm kind of at a loss of what else to really say, other than I found his style to be a familiar territory in presentation, be it vocally or visually, to a indie-esqué popular British satirist.

I'm also quite negative about certain video-game related humour. I suppose, I'm surprised by how times have changed, and my concept of Internet related humour, and humour otherwise, is quite muddled, in my head. Ten, twenty years ago, you wouldn't have seen anything like YouTube, and Internet humour has gradually progressed over the years through collaborations/thievery between other websites.

Safe to say, that almost all humour within the Internet is bound into the package of surrealism. And as it so happens, the elusive artisté Chris Morris has the same surrealist style. Just, it was happening a while ago.

The same could be said for comedians like Monty Python, who I gave a rough time, and to an extent two-man partnerships like Peter Cook/Dudley Moore. All of whom enjoyed success in the United States, though, perhaps the prior was the more dominate case.

I suppose what I'm saying is, my sense of humour is quite backwards, and sometimes, what I say can be misconstrued as snappy, or abrasive and confrontational. The reason I'm surprised and making second guesses about the way you're feeling about all this right now, is that I don't get excited or argue often. I just tend to use two of my braincells and sew together some strings of malicious sarcasm for a reaction.

Which I've got, and now feel quite awful about. Because this topic is destined to be locked, and the whole thing has gone to hell in a handbasket, for something I could've casually ignored when I wasn't in a grip of drug-addled, manic rage.

So, here's the most geniune sorry you're likely to get from anyone, but anyone, online, coming from me.

Sorry about that, mate. It was uncalled for.

...do you like Eddie Izzard? Because I think he's hilarious >_>

Well, his stuff is fairly old now. He started off on BBC Radio 4:
http://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/

Then went onto The Day Today, a parody of British news presentation that, at the time, was famous for actually fooling people it was a live newscast, and nothing was scripted, despite how inane it all was. Then there was the big one, Brass Eye, which has achieved the highest level of critical acclaim out of everything, and caused a huge stir in the British media at the time due to a special mocking paedophiles. That fooled the likes of Phil Collins into thinking there was a protection agency for children called, "Nonce Sense."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NesjvRihbEg
None of this is scripted, and these people actually bought into all this nonsense. Stuff like, "Online perverts release a toxic vapour that makes children more suggestible, and it comes through the keyboard!" - And, "Perverts use special gloves to touch their monitor, and ask a child to put their face against the screen so they can touch it."

Another stand-out of Brass Eye would be the Drugs episode, in which Chris Morris fooled British celebrities and politicians alike with a drug known as Cake, "A Made-Up Drug." - It even fooled an MP into bringing it up for debate in the House of Commons.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0GxUxKZdHk
Everything these people are saying is not scripted in the slightest. They were entirely fooled into believing this drug existed, and the public did indeed laugh at them, for being so gullible.

After that, he sort of lost the plot after so much success, and made a very disturbing/surreal series known as Jam. Which is a sort of love-it-or-hate-it deal, honestly. I quite like bizarre things.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLko8pgZcKM

After that, he made a series known as Nathan Barley, which most British people hated immensely. I never caught that one, myself.

That's everything, I guess! - I haven't watched these shows myself in ages, I'm surprised I remember so much. And yes, I'm a casual fan of Eddie Izzard. He's quite a clever chap, I'd say. I've been meaning to buy his live shows on DVD for about three or four months, now.
