Just was wondering who out there's played the Fatal Frame games. :3

And to open up discussion. If there's spoilers, please use the spoiler code and put for what game. DX

Personally, I really like both Fatal Frame 2 and 3 the most, didn't care all that much about the 1st one, 'cept some awesome ghosts.

OH!

And WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE GHOST!!!?

Me? Brushing Woman, Wanderer, LongHair Woman, Sae, Kirie, Broken Neck (FaF2 One), and Reika. I've got some awesome shots I should upload if people actually know this game. XD

Anyway.. *scuttles away*

I got the first two, will probably play the third too when I find the time. I had very high hopes in the series that were pretty disappointed. Both games suffer from the extreme load of clues (scraps, books, audio tapes, movies, radio messages...) which carry no information that made me not care for the story pretty early into the game, and I can't say I really know too well what exactly happened in either game.

The first is pretty ugly graphics-wise and the difficulty is horribly unbalanced - it starts way too easy, then becomes unplayble unfair in the middle, only to get overly easy again towards the end. I enjoyed the first pass through the house a lot, it was pretty scary, but it got really tiring going through all rooms again and again.

The second looks great and has great animations, also the controls are a lot better and the difficulty is balanced out well. However, not only is the story not very interesting, it's not scary at all. I thought the first really had its moments where it really got you frightened, the second is a bit creepy in like two places very early and then is dull running around.

prior to playing the first game, i took an asian religion class. i learned a little bit about shintoism, and all i can say is that the game is sort of inaccurate when it comes to depicting the religion. i just didn't like the notion of the narrow supernatural element the game had, ghosts. shinto was more about the kami (which can be any phenomena), but i'll just stop here. gameplay wise, the combat system (if you wanna call it that) is very challenging. as ryu kun have mentioned, it is relatively easy, but as you progress, it gets very hard. the notes are very informative when it comes to solving puzzles.

Clues it all the game is about. It's the only way to form the story really. How else is the heroine going to find out what happened? The ghost come up and tell her story time? I don't think so.

Graphics shouldn't play into this. It's an older game, thus, older graphics. Like how everyone complains how FF7 shouldn't be that great because it's all pixely.. take a look at the year. x_x

On the part of the religion, it's all made up. No Japanese religion has sacrifices like those as they were a no-blood religion.

Any game should be easy to do at first, to get the hang of it and get harder. If it just stayed easy, where's the fun in that?

~And apologies. I get defensive with games I like. XD

I don't mind that is HAS clues, that works fine for any of this type of game. It's just that there are too many and most of them are totally pointless. I found it hard to pay much attention to them and ended up not really knowing what's going on in the end.

Amusingly, the ones that actually are important to the game have the important part colored red, so you might as well even skip reading them altogether and still have no problem getting through.

the first game does refer to shintoism. while it may have been different from the actual religion, the game used it. i really enjoyed this game. the creepy atmosphere is what really separates this game from other horror games. using a camera to extinguish ghosts is challenging but never gets dull. if i put you under the impression that this game sucked, my bad. i never implied that from my last comment, lol.

I played all three games and I was very lucky that my local EB saved the last copy of FF2 for me even though it was two days away from my paycheck.

The first game had me on edge especially on the third night! While the second one not so much I guess it was because of the npc that followed your heroine around.

Now FF3 on the other hand, there is something about the Manor of Sleep that just gets on my nerves after a while maybe it was because the camera is weaker then in the previous series or that the fact that every time you exited the house you lose all the items that you collected making you search for health items and flim when you return.

I don't know if anyone else feels uneasy when they wander the Manor of Sleep. :sadshoe:

My favorite ghost from the series that never fails to creep me out is Crawling Woman just because she gets right in your face to attack and you never see her coming until she is right on top of you!

I don't know if the rumor is true but a player stated that they saw Crawling Woman while walking through the normal corridors in the mansion crawling on the ceiling! :beef:

I rather enjoyed them and felt they gave more to the ghosts, rather them be nameless and without history.

SHIIIOOOON <3 So you've played Xenosaga too eh?

And yeah, Crawling Woman is <3 I've got some decent shots of her. And yes, she does crawl on the ceiling when you are walking. Just have to be paying attention to your surroundings.. She zooooms by.

Yeah, I played the entire Xenosaga series Ryshili it's my favorite Rpg I like it better then some of the Final Fantasy titles but that's just because I didn't play the older series when I was younger. :sadshoe:

As of right now I hear nothing about a new Fatal Frame being developed rumor has it that it will be on the PS3 but who knows if it will be an exclusive or not. I wonder where they can go next I mean they pretty much concluded the Miku Hinasaki and the Mio Amakura arcs I guess they could go into the Aso line but that's just from the same branch as the Amakura anyway.

I really wished they took their time to properly develop FF3 and add more back story to it other then the notebooks that you find lying around the manor.

I still choose FF3 over SH4 any day. :phoenix:

Oh man, I love these games! I've only actually beaten the first one, but I actually spoiled myself on the second one cuz I went on gamefaqs and read some of the plot analyses for the games, heh

But I think the plots of the first and second ones have their own unique charms, as to each of the games. And I think both of the games tie together in a creepy way too, hehe. Anyway, I'm a huge fan :edgy:

And, on and off note, I actually have all the Xenosagas and I love them to bits! I was actually in the process of replaying the whole series and was in the middle of it now, hehe :-P

I absolutely LOVE the games! (Obviously..) Kirie's been my all-time favorite character for years.

I liked the 2nd one a lot, I didn't get too far into the 3rd because my PS2 froze on me (I forgot to save..) and got upset, and ever since then it's been on my shelf collecting dust. :payne:
