Problem is, it is so OBVIOUS that it is supposed to be pronounced Go-Dot. And it sounds CATCHY that way. You wouldn't know about how it should be pronounced Go-Doh unless you either got told or you have seen Waiting for Godot.

not sure. I downloaded it off the internets, so I don't know where it came from exactly
speaking of which, though, is there any official source saying that he was named after the play? because I've seen his name spelled both "Godo" and "Godot" *on Japanese fanart sites, in romaji* both are technically right, but still. I mean....who knows, maybe he was named after the river ;)

When I got into Phoenix Wright fandom people were already spelling it "Godot". I don't quite remember when I first learned who Godot was, but in the game his name is spelled with Katakana, which would suggest his name is meant to be foreign. I haven't read "Waiting for Godot" myself but many people have assured me it is a sound reference.
I guess we could always just ask Capcom.

I hope I'm not spoiling anything, but the play is rather minimalist, and Godot never shows up. It's about two Russian hobos, in what I think is Italy, though it could just as easily be France. Either way, it's a strange kinda thing. There are five characters in the play, and not one of them is Godot (though the two main characters are perpetually waiting for him, as an ongoing gag).
You can read the play online. I lost the link, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

Just taking examples from the art page, his fanbook entry romanizes it as 'Godot'. However, the postcard featuring him romanizes it as 'Godo'. So...who knows what the proper one is.
