I was a fan, but I didn't fantard over it or anything XD I'm more respectable than that.
I'm okay with it now. It's not my favorite and I feel it's overrated, but I don't hate it or anything.

If I want to get back into Maruto (lolz mispronunciation ftw) I'll read the manga which is infinitely superior to the anime but still not very good compared to stuff like Death Note and Blue Seed. Hell, I'm even straying away from One Piece now only because of it's "standard Shonen manga" theme. But still not that much.
Either way Naruto isn't very good. Just more garbage for the rabid masses to rave about.

I watched about 80 eps of Naruto, even though I was sick of it by 20 (I have pushy friends). I don't mind the ways that it's similar to Dragonball, with the long battles and emo Sasuke, because that's just part of the genre these days. What I can't stand about Naruto is the utter lack of sense and consistency in its plot and world. I could tolerate teenage emo ninjas if there was any sense or creativity involved! Some implication that Kishimoto knows ANYTHING about the development of teenagers, or military polotics, or the progression of techonology would be nice, too. When you set your story in another world, you have to take all aspects of that world into consideration, and the author just doesn't do that.
But...at the same time, I don't think it's fair to tell people NOT to talk about something they like. Even if they do it to the excess, all you have to do is not read what they're saying. :B

Like...the fact that Kakashi only accepts his team by forcing them to work together. I think he tells them that cooperation is the best weapon and that he wouldn't agree to take them on if they didn't learn that lesson (or something similar...?). But the next time we see Kakashi try to teach them anything, he pits them against each other in a race up treetops, and excuses Sakura the moment she beats them. He was clearly playing on Naruto and Sasuke's competition to get them to perform better. Is that NOT the absolute opposite of everything he supposedly stood for, a few episodes earlier?
But I've ranted about Naruto enough on my LJ, so I'll just stop there :B

You know, I never got into Naruto when it first came out. I thought the art for the manga was scratchy and poor, like something you'd doodle in the back of an English book. I first saw it in an issue of Shounen Jump, in which they take the written exam for their test or whatever.
I'm sure most people remember that part.
It's f**king boring. And ugly as hell.
Then, I was influenced into watching the series by someone or other online. So, rather than waste time catching up, I got pretty much the entire thing straight off the bat on DVD. Pretty cheap, and decent subtitles, too. Even had the first movie out, back then.
This was the honeymoon period for me and Naruto! - We had some good times and a few laughs. Stayed up late, and played a few of the video-games together. The Gamecube titles for Naruto are ones I recall fondly as being quite fun and fancy. I imported the second and third, pre-owned, see?
Mostly, I think Naruto turned my head for a brief few fleeting months because I grew up watching Shounen, and to begin with, Naruto was slowly turning into a little Shounen Princess, right before my eyes.
Characters like Rock Lee and Tsunade, I was quite enamored with.
Rock Lee had huge eyebrows. Tsunade had huge tits.
It's a winning combination.
When it got to the point of Naruto and Sasuke fighting on the Hospital Roof, and then on a Mountain or something.... I gave up caring, and stopped watching it. Hell, I pretty much gave up caring for good when Shippuden was released.
Whatever anyone says, Dragonball inspired a lot of young people who ended up in the manga industry. It's well known fact. Naruto? - Inspired nothing but cheap metallic headbands and complete idiots to rally behind it in support.
The more I look at the recent Naruto, the more I see that the original creator doesn't know how to write a Shounen series for shit! - Characters like Uchiha Sasuke, his cock loving incestual pal Gaara, teamed up with "buttf**ked his own brother" Uchiha Blackcape and various other eyelined faggots are simply a little piece of eye-candy. They serve for the legions of fat, socially retarded yaoi obsessives to strain over their computer tables, and blog about for the next two years until two guys with pinker nipples and girlier faces come along.
Basically, I'm saying here that anime and manga as a whole is pretty much fucked from here on in. Traditional animation is dead, computers have taken over entirely. People who are making series like Naruto and Bleach nowadays are basically people that grew up with stuff like Kinnikuman, Hokuto no Ken, Dragonball, and so on, so forth, so what.
So what? - The best period of Japanese animation and comic books has pretty much died with the end of the last century. Since then, everything's destined to become as shitty as Naruto is. You can only go downhill, from here.
Who needs a dozen different opening sequences and a dozen different ending sequences? - I understand if something changes, the introduction should highlight it, but Naruto took this way too far. If you ask me, ROCKS by Hound Dog was the best introduction the show ever had. That being said, GO!!! was pretty good, along with the one Sambomaster did that I forget the name of.
And to make matters worse shitty movies that have no place in the actual timeline, but we should watch anyway? - Hell, filler episodes, movie-spin offs and such even had a firm grip back in the old days, but thanks to shows like Naruto, the above example has become progressively worse.
I'll tell you this, right now. Even if it ends, it shan't die for a long, long time. There's so much to be said about it, so much that can be done with it... and the Americans will now elevate it beyond the bounds, since the whole thing is brand new, to them. Joe Public, I'm talking about, and not some kid who's downloaded it about two, three years ago and now considers it: "Inferior to Bleach!"
Prepare yourselves for a repeat of the American popularity of Dragonball Z. - That show was released back in '89 in Japan, and was even built up before that with the original Dragonball. The Americans and Europeans alike still lapped it up, though, despite the age.
Since Naruto is new, it could be there to stay. Might be top of the food chain for a good long while. And even if it ends in Japan, if the Americans whine hard enough, they'll get a new series of it. It happened with Kinnikuman Nisei, and it could definitely happen with Naruto.
Be prepared for your lunchboxes, duvet sets, halloween costumes. This is through the looking glass, and I spy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, all over again. The curse has pretty much gone into full-scale war, right now.
I still think Tsunade has awesome tits, though.

And maybe the addition of Kakashi, too, minus his little aforementioned problem teaching his students consistently. Like I said, I thought some of the characters were quite fun and there was an interesting idea in there somewhere, but it was so mishandled that it quickly sunk into endless annoying battles with little actual character development. It certainly seemed to lack a lot of the good elements of shounen manga.What a shame. And God only knows we'll never hear the end of it. I mean, to a certain extent, the Dragon Ball/Z/GT thing is still going, too. I just wish I didn't have to be inundated with Naruto all the time.

Hell, I'm one of the least homophobic guys around this place. I'm constantly talking about men, men, men. Half the time, most of the series I watch involve male characters. I even did a post way back in the Edgeworth is GAY thread confirming my non-homophobia. I've been there, done that, got the t-shirt, didn't do it for me. End of story~.

I was also a fan of One Piece, a very big fan, but... that seems to have vanished, as far as I can tell. Whatever happened to it?

Personally, I prefer Shaman King as a shounen series, but Shaman King is MUCH less popular than Naruto. Perhaps just because of the appeal of ninjas and the whole emotastic Sasuke appeal.

I don't know, the series is going to be something I watch since Ninjas are in it. It's not too bad, I just hate some of the characters (Sasuke, Konhamaru, Jirya) and the story is kinda predictable. I just watch for the fights, maybe Shippuden will be different.
Fights are great, some characters are cool, story is bull. Plus I could never get over the fact that Naruto where bright orange!! What kind of Ninja wears bright colors unless your Ryu Hyabusa, the only ninja who can wear bright colors.

I wouldn't say he portrays Sasuke as homosexual- if anything, he's shown to be consistantly asexual. It's just the fangirls taking that stupid moment of fanservice to open the manga up with and twisting it. I just can't wait until someone tells him he's gonna have to SLEEP WITH GIRLS to revive his clan.
But I agree with you on the limelight stealing. Though as a loyal Akatsukitard, I pretty much hate all of what's left of the manga. (WTF Shikamaru. WTF.) And Orochimarutard too. ¬¬ I know they're bad guys, but WHY do you have to fail so hard writing characters that have interesting premises, Kishimoto?

Because, like I said, the author seems to have no idea of how to write a series and maintain the characters within that world. It seems funny, but Naruto and One Piece both seem to have gone through a period of which people have questioned the direction the series was going in. In the case of One Piece, last I heard, it was put on hiatus or something? - I dunno'.
And with Bleach, people were comparing the Soul Society segment to the Namek segment of Dragonball Z, at one time. Pretty weird. Also, I don't quite understand the point of the timeskip in Naruto. All you can say is that the plot was going nowhere, so they had to rush it forward a few years in order to move the story along. Doesn't that seem like a fair assumption to make?
And, yes. That's pretty amusing. You can imagine the look on Sasuke's face when he's forced to CREATE BABIES.

Wait a second. Four hundred episodes? - There's no way the series of Dragonball Z got past three hundred, let alone made it to four hundred.
Unless you're counting the original Dragonball, and the entirely unrelated Dragonball GT that came after them both, too. Either way, Toriyama was the author/artist of the original manga, Toei Animation were responsible for the shift to a television series. Which means Toriyama was only responsible for the original story, and not the actual production of the animated show.

And, hey. I don't remember anyone complaining as a kid when the fights lasted forever. Isn't that called building tension in some parts of the world? - Some interesting points, but I would never want to see any of the original series "remastered". - Once you've made it, you've made it. You shouldn't keep going back and picking away at something simply to make a bit of cash.
Which, I assume, somehow. Naruto may actually do in the near future.

And noting those similarities, I've got to say, times have changed for what constitutes as a cool character in anime/manga, these days.
Characters like that being considered cool shows us this. In abundance. If you ask me, that's not particularly a good thing, either. All Sasuke and Gaara seem to do is act depressed, and have severe emotional problems that cripple them into a state of being obnoxious, violent social retards. Yet, this misbehaviour seems to make them popular? - It's real confusing.
I didn't think I'd kick up such a stink. Wasn't trying to aim anything negative toward anyone, but, hell. I thought it was a good point to make. However politely worded it was.

oh gosh I agree with you 100%. I can be quite a fangirl at times, but never to these kinds of characters...they're the exact opposite of what I like, and yet practically all of the fanbase loves them.
oh well, I'm just glad Naruto himself isn't like that. If a main character in something is one of those emo types I can never get into that series :<

Ha ha! It's been so long since I watched the show that I forgot how many episodes it aired for until just now. In Japan there were about 300 or so episodes that aired. In the US, I think it was 280-something.
Man, my memory's getting foggy. Time for me to buy some DVDs.
