guilty. All's well, right? Well... probably not for Phoenix. Don't forget that Phoenix implicated 
in Zenitora's plot, which happens to make her an accomplice to murder. Now, I found it a fairly significant plot point that Viola is the granddaughter of a crime lord, a point which drove Zenitora to murder. So what if Bruto has a couple of lawyers in his pocket who can get her off? It still doesn't change the fact that Phoenix not only put Viola in a life-threatening situation by the possibility of her being executed for her role in the crime, but also exposed her relationship with Bruto, which means she will be a target of kidnappings and assassinations perhaps for the rest of her life, or at least for Bruto's life. And if I recall The Godfather correctly, Sicilian mobs get mighty angry when someone messes with la familia....

I don't think that really applies because Phoenix was never actually dealing with organized criminals who could potentially kill him. At no point during 2-4 was Phoenix's life in any danger.

The only reason why Phoenix could pull off fooling Furio is because everyone else knew about it earlier on. Before they could even raise a question on the matter the man's already spilled the beans.
Oh yeah, there have been a couple times Phoenix withheld evidence from the court only to reveal them at "opportune" moments. I dunno if I could call that dirty per se, but rather it's more of him trying to work around the rules so he could prove his point further. Dirty would be pulling off what Gant did way back when. As for the whole "putting people on the spot", it's part of Phoenix's job to get the truth out as he's defending his clients. It can't be helped if he does endanger people in the process.
