Yeah, it is pretty old news by now. Doesn't make it being there any less mysterious, though Ema being in the game gives it a definate connection to something about her rather than just a cameo.
Still, you may just want to dig around some of the slightly old threads for more deep info. Like the GS4 thread, or the eight-or-so different Hobohodo threads.

Come to think of it, there is a screenshot in case4-2(?)...the one about Sympathy Park (where both Minuki and Garyuu shows up), and one of the options to ask someone is about "Engagement/Marriage" (the 1st option)...
Could be a intended red herring though. The pin plus that Papa beanie can lead to scary thoughts...

Naruhodo probably got the pin from Akane in a certain moment, as a symbol of friendship, camaraderie or as a symbol of working together. Blah. XD
And in fact, the fact that you defended the man with her pin on (and won the case XD) could be the one and only reason she gives you the investigation kit and shows you how to use it. If you think about it, it's plausible.

That is what I am thinking too. It did not show to whom it was asked, so unless it was Akane who was asked, it would be a big red herring.
And the kanji leans more towards engagement rather than marriage.

I am thinking that the pin is not a real pin, but rather some camera, or data recording device invented by Ema and gave Naruhodo to help investigate that Russian restaurant. That will pull things more towards professional direction and shut up the rumor somehow.

That aside, I'm not sure about the pin's relevance, though the only thing I know about it is that it's supposed to represent oxygen. (Akane has three pins representing H20, two blue hydrogen ones and the red oxygen pin.) I wonder how THAT's going to get involved in the plot, though... :/
