I've been thinking about getting this to tide me over until I get PW: T&T. Is it less "Trauma Center" and more "Phoenix"? It sounds a bit like PW, but with doctors :D

It's a bit of both actually in Life Signs you do more doctor related stuff then just operating on a patient you actually get to look at a case file of the patient's history and figure out what's wrong. There is also more story then Trauma Center and it goes a little more into the characters that make up the medical team. Also the story is more realistic then TC science fiction drama it's actually pegged as more of a hospital soap opera drama think of general hospital or scrubs. That aspect may or may not appeal to you.

I already ordered my copy and plan on picking it up when it's released on Oct 23rd. :maya:

I'll be more than willing to try it if it's less difficult than Trauma Center. :meekins:

I don't know about the difficulty however I assume it's not as insane as the bonus x missions that you can unlock after you complete Trauma Center.

Let's see... I've been reading up on it, and apparently it's a lot more lifelike than Trauma Center. I read a review of a demo and they said that at this one point when you have to do open-heart surgery you have to crack the patient's ribs open with a saw. Good times.

I'm eagerly waiting for this game to come out, hahaa.

I've heard a lot of the screens are getting removed for the European release though because they're to controversial... >_>

I'll probably import it though ^^

Trauma Center started off normally and then it basically became a game where you remove bugs from people.

I hope this one is a little more realistic.

Just the European release? If it's too controversial for Europe, it's going to be even more controversial in America.

I hope you don't have to deal with a supermegadeadly disease that threatens mankind.

GUILT got really old really fast.

I just want normal operations

I think this one is more realistic. GUILT did get old, I liked the normal ops before GUILT was introduced.

They'll probably just up the rating. But even if they do leave some stuff out, who cares as long as it doesn't affect the story or gameplay too much?

Bump because it finally came out today.

I got it. It rawks thus far. It really does feel like Trauma Center meets Phoenix Wright - the 'investigation' portions are basically the same as PW except you can only examine at certain points.

The storyline's pretty 'dramatic' as well, usually when it gets to the end of an episode.

Every now and then in the chapter you have a 'Heart Battle' which is basically a Psyche-Lock you can lose. Sometimes there's more than one, and I think they affect the ending.

Spoiler: Chapter 1
At the end of Chapter 1 you have to deal with two patients at once, and just as you start operating on one your new assistant comes in saying the other one's in critical, and you have to convince her to operate alone. I failed this one so I operated on the other one but the original patient died.

Spoiler: Chapter 2
In chapter 2 there's two of them. The first one you have to convince the hospital head to let you keep a dog your pop star patient brought it. The second one is just before the final operation of the chapter, where you have to convince a crazed fangirl (who just stabbed said pop star by accident) not to kill herself. I beat them both so the dog cheered up another patient as well as knocked the knife out of the fangirl's hand after I won the second one.

So to conclude, somewhat overdramatic but still loads of fun. Operations are a lot more picky and linear than TC, but they're still fun.

Cool game so far, not as precise as TC, but a little more realistic.

It's pretty easy to point out who's the Phoenix, Mia, and Maya counterparts in the game :P

I'm actually surprised the japanese names were left in after the localization with TC. I've only beaten the first surgery and I hope the game doesn't drive me "stab your DS with the stylus" mad like TC did several times. Oh yeah, you get to have your Dr. Hotti moments in the game. :hotti: :hotti:

I bought the game on monday. I'm on Episode 5 already. I have to say its another game that has a permanent spot in my DS game library. I'll write a full review of the game when I finish it. But the diagnosis and operating parts are great so far. As I said before, full review when I finish the game.

I saw this at GameStop and dismissed it as a Trauma Center rip-off; not that I liked the game in the first place. I don't play games that shamelessly derive from others. That's one of my rules. :godot:

But, from reading all the positive reviews about it I may have to check it out. Is it as insanely hard as Trauma Center (I didn't bother to continue past the first training mission, btw)?

I'm not very far, but it seems to be a bit easier than TC. Vitals don't drop on their own nearly as fast as TC, but mistakes usually cost more.

The operations aren't very hard, though. :minuki:

Wiki says LifeSigns came out before Trauma Center, so I wanted to see how it was. Playing it right now as I speak. The interface does somewhat resemble PW in a way. First examination had me up in stitches XD. And LAWLZ at the big-breasted doctor with a BELL around her neck. I liked the hospital map where it shows who's in the vicinity so you don't end up backtracking if no one's there.

Just wish the damn text would go faster.

The game is pretty awful, if you ask me.

The characters are bland, the writing sucks, the art is ugly, the evidenI MEAN MEDICAL RECORDS are fairly useless, and presentation ala PW to move the crummy story along is tiresome. The music stinks, and the game spends alot of time going no where.

The medical examinations are very linear dull, and any information you get is fairly useless when it comes to the actual surgery. Then, when the surgery comes along, I felt like I was being held by the hand. It also didn't help that the controls were fairly unresponsive to what I wanted to do, and there was sometimes no clear sign as to what tool does what, so you end up guessing. There's no tension involved, and it just wasn't engaging. Trauma Center nailed the idea of tension an having someone's life in your hands, but Lifesigns failed in that respect.

I'm going to delete this game soon, because I feel like it made a terrible first impression, with nearly an hour of slogging before I got to the surgery, and it's not going to get much better. Mostly because the characters are so bad and not worth progressing through.

tl;dr - Lifesigns is like PW and TC, if both games were put into a casserole, stripped of all the elements that made the games good on their own merits and covered in a sauce of crap.

I like the game so far though I wish the characters you find in the hospital say different things to you every time you present different things to them. I don't like that fact that I can pretty much not go and talk to the extra characters as they don't add any more insight to yourself or the people around them. :sadshoe:

I wish they had the examine mode for the rooms even though it would be more of a rip off of Phoenix Wright it could add some humor and depth to game. Like if you examine the bed in the night shift room you would get the internal monologue of Tendo something like
(This is a room for the Night Shift I pretty much live here the nurse is thinking of charging me rent! :beef: )

This game requires you to be more precise in your work as there is no Healing Touch or antibiotic gel to help you out if your vitals get too low imagine trying to do an operation with those requirements in Trauma Center! Well maybe there is a challenge like that posted at game winners in a faq somewhere.

Finished episode 3, it's easier than episodes 1/2.

Episode 4 seems to take place at the same place/time as episode 3 (Tendo's island vacation.)

Is it worth going through an hour to two hours of text just to get to touch the patients? There was another game like that, called Doki Doki Majo Shinpan. That wasn't a game related to doctors, but it was the same style. Long amount of text, small gameplay. You took nearly 40 minutes to actually get to touch the witch, and even then was that disappointing.

That was amusing for the first 3 seconds. But I'd rather find a flash game where I can do that instantly.

Also, on their website, you can make MANGA COMICS (not kidding, that's what they call them). I made a few.

I think it makes no sense that they released the second life signs game instead of the first so we are missing out on a lot of background information on Dr. Tendo and the other staff members of the hospital.

Maybe they were afraid that Tendo would be too much of a rookie in the eyes of players who completed Trauma Center with Derek Stiles before it.

I disagree with the hand holding part though, some parts of the operation in part one took several tries until I figured out what to do especially in the last part of the operation with the second patient you worked on. :grey:

I want to play the first game in this series but I have a sinking feeling that we will never see it's release medical games must have a very small fan base. :larry:

EDIT: I finished the game last night. Not perfect by any means but still good, I think.

Also, animations.

Spoiler: ending
I'm glad Suzu stopped being such an emo slut and finally took off that annoying bell she's got around her neck. The whole time I was playing this game I kept thinking she was missing cat ears.

I don't get why everyone is bashing this game?

Ripped off Phoenix Wright? Well, yea there are elements to it that rip it off, but it has its own accord to it. You guys seriously, and I do mean it cuz most people have been bashing this game cuz it "Copies" PW, need to open your horizons up more and give the damn game a chance. [sigh]

Well, I think once my review is up, you guys can appreciate it a bit more -sigh-

Hey, I like the game, it's just a little... flawed.

My biggest beef is with the characters, I think. They don't really give you a chance to flush anyone out because any dialogue not related to the story is only about a sentence long. :yuusaku:
