Got boring too fast. I heard it was supposed to be good, but I havn't found out what that was supposed to be. No problem with it being a standard (or maybe not so standard again) RPG, that was fine enough, but going through all those worlds (I stopped at that graveyard thing, WTF was that? Not Disney, or what?) were tiresome and not very fun. It was also rather hard at certain points, and I never did beat the final boss on The Little Mermaid.

From that, I knew it would be stupid getting the 2nd.

And games ARN'T supposed to be boring. I play Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and do nothing but press the same button over and over again, but that at least gave a sence of PROGRESS in the game - Kingdom Hearts DIDN'T.

KHII was a major disappointment. They cut out the fun plot, the exploration- the adventure, God of War'd the battle system... and pretty much ruined everything I liked about the first.

It had no personality anymore. I did like the few times you interacted with Organization 13, but it quickly became a "you're bad people, I hate you!"-fest. I mean, Sora was a complete asshole.

I wasn't overly fond of the first one, and I didn't pay the second one any mind at all. The combo of Disney characters and various Final Fantasy characters made me feel uncomfortable, and made the game look like some kind of demented marketing scheme. "Hey kids! Look at these anime people with sharp objects fight Scar from the Lion King! BUY IT!"
Final Fantasy's popularity went up a bit after KH, and that's also about the time Disney movies really started to suck. Coincidence? I think not. Detective Gumshoe

Anyway, the gameplay is simplistic, Donald and Goofy hardly help or help too much, and most of the time you were doing stupid tasks for stupid Disney characters who don't think you're odd looking at all despite being all anime when they, obviously, are not. I forgot about looking for Kairi and Riku during the game unless they decided to pop up somewhere, and I thought that's supposed to be the goal of the game.

And lol, I hear there's a Tron level in KH2. I think they ran out of movies the kids will be able to remember.

Fun fact: The guy who voices Sora in the english version is Haley-Joel-Osment, AKA The Sixth Sense kid.

this series got old way too fast.

The first one was a novel idea and turned out pretty well, but the second one sort of killed it for me. I mean, I love FF and all, but I won't go out and buy any game that has a character in it, and I think that's what KH was banking on. Sora became a total ass in KH2, and Donald and Goofy were useless as a whole.

I enjoyed the first game. The Music was awesome, the levels all had some sort of loose plot binding them together while not acting out the movies, and the combat system was something I enjoyed.

KH2 comes along and I find myself frustrated. There's no platforming, you're acting out the movies, you could skip all of after Twilight Town until the final world and... Not... miss... anything. There's literally nothing that builds up inbetween those points. I wasn't a fan of the drive forms, way too many limitations. Combat felt quite empty without access to special moves like Arcs Arcanium when I felt like it and were instead limited to an extreemly time limited limit form and an inept MP System.

I really don't care too much about how they 'ruin' the Final Fantasy Characters. I didn't like Final Fantasy VII, or X, and didn't play VIII, or X-2 so there really wasn't anything for me to loose. Other then be annoyed at how KH is a FFVII cameo fest.

I agree that KH2 was poor compared the KH. However, I still love it.

I do hate the last 2 forms, the ones that float, though. Because they're awfully difficult to control and just do everything for you, you don't even really need to move yourself. My favourite is no doubt valor, even if the lack of healing hits me hard.

I also think that there was a massive lack of optional battles. In KH, there was a bunch. Sephiroth unlimited times (rather than just once, which really sucks), Ice Titan, Phantom, that dude in Agrabah whose name I forgot, possibly more that I've forgotten. In KH2 there was just Sephiroth. Which is why I'm looking so forward to Final Mix+: Organisation XIII members => Extra fights. It's going to be awesome.

Then there's the storylines... the disney ones, which generally followed the same plot as the movies... which was an awful idea. I hated it... but it's not like those disney storylines were important to the story anyway, so it doesn't bother me that much. I just thought it was lazy is all.

Another reason I'm looking forward to FM+ is that I hear there's a "super hard" mode or something. The hard mode in KH2 was still terribly easy (so easy that I chose the Hard Mode on my FIRST try at the game and still had little trouble beating it), whereas I still struggle to beat Hard Mode of KH today.

Otherwise I adore it. It can turn into a bit of a button masher, but I don't mind that at all, really. I love the games and can't wait for FM+, and any additions to the series.

I liked both the first and second game. The first for the story and interesting use of characters, the second for some of the more interesting worlds, like Tron (and yes, while it does seem odd for them to have included Tron, it's actually quite a fun level. Cool-looking, too) and End of the World, which was great to look at.

I didn't care much for the way the battle system was in the first game, and the whole Drive aspect in the second was somewhat poorly implemented, but other than that, both games were fun. Very quotable, also.

EDIT: Oh, and I didn't care much for Chain of Memories, since it was mostly just a remake with trading cards. The Organization XIII fights were cool, and the card aspect was interesting, but I didn't care much for it otherwise.

Personally? KH can just go up and die for the letdown that was KH2.

KH1 was a fun, surprising action RPG.

KH2 was everything 1 wasn't. It wasn't fun, and we already did it before, so all the surprise was lost.

The biggest surprise in KH2? Nomura using a character that WASN'T designed by him in the form of Setzer. And even then, he completely botched Setzer's personality except for his opening taunt... which I don't remember right now, but it was a variation of his "My life is a chip in your pile... ante up!" phrase.

Ah... the KH series. I don't get why it's still so popular.

The first game was fun. Beat it maybe three or four times(not that it takes very long, anyways), really enjoyed the plot, the controls and liked the characters.

Chain of Memories... should I even count this one as part of the series? It continued the plot of the first game, yes, but the gameplay was kinda... annoying. Could be because I'm not fond of card-based battle RPGs, but I just couldn't enjoy this one very much.

KH2... this one pretty much took away most of the things from the first game I liked. And the whole gameplay can be summed up pretty quickly. Cutscene -> Walk Around -> Cutscene -> Battle -> Cutscene -> Walk Around/More Cutscenes -> repeat. It was just boring. The fact that the worlds didn't have 'unique'(Well... sort of) events in them, and were instead based on the movies they came from really didn't help, either. I think I didn't even bother to finish this one, just because the whole gameplay cycle got on my nerves. At least in the first one you were able to sort of sneak out of quite a few event battles if you had to level up a little bit more, but in this one, that's not possible most of the time.

So, yeah. Not going to say anything about KH3(or whatever it's gonna be called) yet aside from the fact that, just going by the 'trailer' at the end of Final Mix+, it doesn't seem like it's actually a part of the KH series to me. It just seems a little bit too different so far.

Overall, this could've been a great series, but taking out almost all of the good aspects from the first game and adding stuff you didn't need(like these 'Kill x enemies in x minutes/seconds' battles, or the so-called 'missions' from early on in the game) really ruined it, in my opinion.

The only part of KH that gave me even the tiniest bit of enjoyment was fighting Sephiroth. It was fast paced and challenging enough that I actually forgot that I was a wanky tween with a KEY. And the arena was so open, it was impossible for the camera to be a hindrance for once!

But of course, then I finally won, and got nothing for it. Totally lame.

I couldn't stand anything else about the game. You'd have to pay me to get me to play the sequel. Matt

I liked the first game, it actually introduced me to the Final Fantasy series. I was liiittle bit fangirlish at that time (I was 13, what'd you expect?), so no wonder I liked KH so much because of Leon/Squall. Bell Boy But besides that, I've always liked Disney, and I thought it was refreshing to mix them up in this game so you could remember those times when you were a child.

The second game was the disappointment of the year. I swore I'll never play a Button-mashing game ever again. Don't mention the cutscenes. I'd even call KHII a movie.
The only thing I liked was the Lion King world and Tron world.

And I want to point out how poorly Nomura designed this game. Count, how many of the Organization members are handsome? Why are they so handsome? I see no reason.
I'm pretty much getting tired of Nomura's design because of KHII. Look at VS FFXIII, another cutie boy there. *wink*
My step-sister's even a fangirl of the game, even though she never played it, she forced her brother to play through it. OMG SHE'S SO IN LOVE WITH AXEL!!!!

Despite this, I still have hope for KHIII, which I hope would come to the Wii. At least the button-mashing would disappear.

Tetsuya Nomura's designs have sucked ever since FFVII. You just didn't notice because the graphics still left a few things up to the imagination.

Kh1 was freaking awesome.

But as all of the replies in this thread says KH2 was not good.

KH2 was really tedious with that "WORLDZ REVISITINGLOLOLOLO" as an attempt to make it longer than the first.

Kingdom Hearts 1, An awsome great game. Back in it's day one of the best games the Square-Enix made, other than Final Fantasy with the Disney part of it. Well you can say boring... for some worlds with the lame attack system and the graphics good I guess for the year. Now Kingdom Hearts 2 well with its better attack system and its graphics, its better view too it is ok... its still has Disney but I guess that makes it good in a way.... I wonder how many times as Riku, Kairi, The King and dam Hearts has been said.... yes I'm a big fan of Kingdom Hearts

I'm sorry to say but I'm going to give you guys a big spoiler! from Kingdom Hearts 2 Final mix that I think is a part of Kingdom Hearts 3 story line there's Japanese in it. I dont know what it says. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wtQ_72J ... r%2Ecom%2F Will Kingdom Hearts 3 be better than 1 and 2?

Kingdom Hearts II did not have the better battle system. In KHI, you actually had a use for magic and basically did something other than mash on the keyblade combos. KHI had an actual RPG battle system, which I rather enjoyed.

I like the series and I know that I enjoyed beating all 3 games. However, I seem to be alone with that Chain of Memoris was my favorite of all 3 games. But that's probably I like card games so much...

Personally, I would love to play the Remake of Chain of Memories.

I enjoyed playing Kingdom Hearts 1, Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts 2. I was just replaying KH, and realized how much I loved the "Skip" feature in the second game. At least if I wanted to play KH2 again, I could skip through the scenes. Also, my KH2 has a scratch in it, so the second time I went to pass the game, I kept hitting the final boss and had a hard time defeating him. The ending credits keep skipping when I watch it too.

I wish that Atlantica level in KH2 was as fun to play as Elite Beat Agents though. Gotta push the right buttons at the right time.

I loved KH, I used to stay up all night playing it. The game was actually challanging.

Then CoM came around, that was fun for about a few days before the battle system made you want the throw the gameboy at the fecking wall.

KH2 came out, fun for a while ... but WAY too easy to beat. I only got stuck once, but the rest of the game was a breeze, there was no challange to it.

I hope KH3 won't be such a dissapointment, but judging from the downward spiral of the past two games, the outlook is not good for it. Head Bang

Try KH2 on proud mode, lowest possible level, with Kingdom Key on Sephiroth and no skills gained from the drives.

THEN we'll see if its easy or not! (I actually did this)

Im amazed at how many KH2 dislikers there are. Of course, the primary reason I liked it was because I'm a Disney fanboy. Specifically, Pirates and Tron. But I really liked the reaction command gameplay, and the storyline was OK, though the fact that I got stuck on the last battle of COM and couldn't get Riku's story kinda ruined it for me.

The battle system in Kingdom Hearts two would have been just fine if they hadn't added the reaction command.
I also liked the idea of leveling up from boss fights.

I've played KH, but my game glitched in the Little Mermiad stage, so I've never got past there. I might get KH2, (For the Lion King stage, mostly, but I would like to find out what happens in the plot as well...) but I'm going to wait until I can find it for really cheap. I do like the KH series, but I'm not what you'd call a fan... More of a 'I play it, but only because I payed for it' type person.
Actually, I know someone who's legally changed her name to Kaibi, after the girl from Kingdom Hearts.

You sound like me. I haven't actually completed the first game, but I do like it despite the FF/Disney-crossover-thing couldn't be more of a money-raking-in excersise than anything. I love the music and, while it took me a little while to get used to the battle system because I'm so used to turn-based stuff, the battle system was good, too. My favorite bits were the opening parts though; I loved the surreality it had... it was like one of those creepy dreams you have and expect to wake up from and it always weirds me out to see something weird like that happening on my TV.
I'm aware that kind of stuff happens in movies a lot, but I don't see movies much so yeah.

KHII is decent... not as good as the first, but I lke Organization XIII and they kept the surreal thing, so it's not too bad. It could've been a lot worse.

Yes, I totally agree with you. The intro is amazing, and to be honest, I was kind of disapointed when the game started.
The music is also awesome, until you get to the Little Mermaid bit and it makes your ears bleed...
So, is KH2 good enough to spend £20 on? Kaibi keeps bugging me to get it, but I want to buy Mystery Detective first, and I'm not exactly rolling in cash right now... I suppose I could shell out for it, but do you know how far the Lion King level is into the game? Man, that movie's almost as good as Hobohodo's hat.

As KH1 is what got me into videogaming, it's always gonna have a special place in my heart, even though I know that there are many games better than it.

Honestly, though... Kingdom Hearts 2. What the heck?

1) They took out everything challenging, rehashed the movie plots (KH1 actually managed to be semi-original with the worlds), and just... bleh.
2) I hated the Drive System. Why should I have to spend hours leveling up forms I'll never use just to get High Jump or Glide? Especially when you consider how often AntiForm appears when you use the forms more and more. Why bother even trying if something like that just inhibits progress?!
3) Organzation 13=Worst Villains Ever. Not!Ansem did some sinister things (kidnapping, manipulation, murder, being vague and cryptic at innapropriate times), but Organization 13? They just want their hearts back so they can be human again. I can't fight against them when I want to HELP them! UGH.
4) Roxas. It's not that I have a problem with his character (he's rather bland and personality-less, IMO), I hate that he went NOWHERE. All that buildup with the Digital Twilight Town gang, Axel, DiZ, and his realization that he was little more than a part of Sora could have been AWESOME storyline components. It could've made for some great development for Sora, realizing that he's not complete, and that he's going about killing things that he needs. But after Sora wakes up, he just... disappears. There's nothing with him until The World That Never Was, and that's just a fight scene that did nothing for either of them.
5) The 1000 Heartless? BIGGEST. LETDOWN. EVER. For serious.

I found that the only improvements from KH1 to KH2 were better graphics, Atlantica (Sora singing cracks me up every time. Plus, it was so much better than KH1's), the inclusion of Auron, and the Gummi Ships (which were made of gold and win). But when a little racing minigame is the most entertaining part of a 30+ hour game, something is horribly, horribly wrong.

I'll have to go against the huge popular opinion here and just state that I enjoyed KH2, even if was flawed in many ways. My biggest complaint, if anything, was just that the O13 group felt like a huge collection of paper tigers with no personality; I'm not even sure why half of them did anything.

Still, I beat it, which is more than I can say for most games; I had fun with it, and I liked the drive system to a certain extent. I've never felt that the cameos were 'wrong,' since they're not supposed to be the characters FROM their particular games. They're just that--guest appearance by characters everyone knows. I was never expecting them to act like they do in the FF games--although I have to say the KH2 Sephiroth has more personality than his FF7 counterpart ever did.

I've got to give KH2 props for making Malificent a major villain this time and letting her be bad ass, for including Tron, and for the Steamboat Willy stage which I thought was pretty awesome looking.

I've only played them a little, because I don't have a PS2 :P My friend has though, and as far as I can see it's a pretty good series. KH1 seems a bit better than KH2, though.

I heard that KH3 will come for Wii, does anyone know anything about that? o.O

There is no news that KH is making a platform jump; it would be highly unlikely, in any case, since KH has (aside from CoM) been a PS2 staple.

One thing i like in the whole KH series is the music. i loved KH2's maintheme "Sanctuary", and the music in the final boss battles, and in the 1000 Heartless battle (I've been waiting for that one).

The trick to the 1,000 heartless battle is to rely on the reaction commands the two types of heartless provide. Granted, It makes it way too easy. The point of that battle was because
Spoiler: 1000 Heartless battle
Organization XIII needed the captured hearts to create Kingdom Hearts. It was a trap to mislead Sora into giving them what they needed.

I liked the inclusion of the Drive forms, but one form I hated to see was Anti-Form (which occurs at random) in which Sora takes on the form of a Heartless. Once you get it, you can't change back until the gauge runs out, you can't use items, and it seems weaker. Very frusterating.

You can't fault the control style (KH2).
KH2 has a camera you could control with the right stick; that was much better than the shoulder buttons in KH1. And you can open treasure chests in battle (you couldn't do that in KH1).

I didn't get Chain of Memories until after KH2. I didn't think much about it (maybe because it seemed like a GBA remake), until I was told i was missing an important part of the storyline, So I got CoM to fill in the gaps.

Anti form has strong physical attack but that's it--and I certainly would not want to choose it over any other form. You do a lot of damage but you take 2x as much as usual, plus you can't restore.

Anti-form was just unneccessary--I really rarely used forms because of it.

Wouldn't the next kingdom hearts game be entirely different from the rest to the point of being a completely different series?
