I'm going to buy a PS2 (call me a late bird but w/e) and an Xbox 360 soon and I'm in need of games to buy. Due to my ignorance towards Microsoft and Sony all these years I'm a bit out of touch with this section of the gaming world and I'm in need of recommendations for games. However, keep the recommendations to genres that do not include the following:

    -Dungeon crawlers
    -Real-Time Strategy
    -D&D-Medieval-LotR-WoW-Runescape genre
    -Liscensed-movie games
-Ryhthm games (e.g. DDR, Guitar Hero, etc.)
    -Sports games (e.g. Madden, etc.)
    -Puzzle games (Tetris, Lemmings, etc.)

So far the games I already have picked out are:

PS2
Okami
Sonic Mega Collection
Mega Man X Collection
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (what kind of RPG is this, anyway?)
Disgaea 2
God of War
God of War 2
Jak & Daxter
Jak II
Jak 3
Ratchet & Clank
Ratchet & Clank 2 Going Commando
Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal
Shadow of the Colossus
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3
Kingdom Hearts
Kingdom Hearts 2
Need For Speed Collection
Sly Cooper and the Thevius Raccoonus
Sly 2 Band of Thieves
Sly 3 Honor Among Thieves
Zone of Enders
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Dark Cloud

Xbox 360
Halo
Halo 2
Halo 3
Rainbow Six Vegas
Assassin's Creed
Mass Effect
BioShock
Devil May Cry 4
Dead Rising
Marvel Ultimate Alliance Gold Edition
Blue Dragon
Call of Duty 4
Medal of Honor Airborne
F.E.A.R.
Psychonauts
Jet Set Radio Future

Go!

P.S. If you know of any good racing games list them as well.

I can't speak much for the 360, as I don't have one, but the PS2 does have a few titles I can recommend. This is off the top of my head, though;

Both the Ratchet & Clank and Jack & Daxter series get better as they go along. If your planning to get the first games, you may want to consider the sequels.

The Sly Cooper series is good if you're into stealth-action genre.

the Grand Theft Auto series is good too, mostly for the great stories and the sandbox-style gameplay. This also applies to the True Crime games as well as The Simpsons: Hit & Run, by far the best Simpsons game to date.

Shinobi is a pretty good game. the sequel, Nightshade, is as well. The bosses in particular are fun.

Destroy all Humans! and its sequel are fun if you're into sci-fi parodies of the 1950's and 60's. The dialogue is also hilarious.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Sorry if it's all clumped together. :hobohodo:

THe PS2 has a crap load of games you can get for it.

Disega is a turn based strategy RPG where you play on a grid. Look for Phantom Brave, its a sweet game like Disega, but its gridless and alot of fun.

I'll update this later (busy and tired and can't think right now sorry >_<)

Klonoa 2. Awesome platformer on the short side, but it has great replay value and a good story, which you don't need to play the prequel to understand!

Sly Cooper was already suggested...um...

PSYCHONAUTS. if you can find it.

You so need SSX3 for the PS2. Really. I hate sports games but I love that one with a passion.

And anything SILENT HILL. It was a game before it was a movie.

If you´re into stunts and snowboarding, SSX Tricky might satisfy you. Soul Calibur series are very good action-beat´em up games. Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts 2 are definetly worth to try, you won´t regret it. And above all, Dark Cloud. It might be hard to find, it´s pretty old game alredy but it´s a hell of a good RPG game, says me.

See, I found SSX3 much more satisfying because of the tiny but important addition of the self-righting snowboard! I suck at Tricky.

I had no idea! :/

Actually, to be honest I don't have much experience with dungeon crawlers so I can't say for certain that I like them or dislike them. I guess put dungeon crawlers in there because I was just trying to root out which genres I don't want or thought I don't want.

Ah well, I suppose I'll give this game a try and see where I stand after that.

Assuming that you haven't already gotten the Need for Speed games for your PS2, I highly recommend them as they are some of my personal favorites in the racing genre.

...And since you don't seem to have a dislike for the fighting genre...again, recommending for the PS2: Capcom vs SNK 2 and King of Fighters XI.

And for a gunner-game of sorts...[Yes, another PS2 reccomendation...] : Gungrave Overdose.

Lemmings Revolution (PS2) was a good one, I hear.

By the looks of your lineup, though, you're not into "puzzle" games - but you didn't say to exclude them, so...

I'm just not into Tetris. I absolutely suck at it and even if I get past Stage 10 (if I ever get there) I never manage to score high enough to warrant any further motivation for playing. Find me a game that isn't a cheap knock-off of Tetris and actually addicting and fun to play, and I may consider it.

Let's just say that Lemmings involves the meaningless deaths of hundreds of innocents.

I didn't know Lemmings was a puzzle game. In fact, I didn't even know which genre it belonged to.

Hm...maybe I should just outlaw all puzzle games for sake of bad recommendations. Maybe only play them if I, myself, find them interesting.

Zone of Enders

Umm... I'd recommend you to either buy the first game (Zone of the Enders) and the second (Zone of the Enders: The 2nd runner) or buy the second game alone, because the first game is pretty mediocre and a bit timid. The second game is more fast paced and looks stunning, has an awsome main character and if you happen to find the special edition of this game you get lots of extra features that gives the game more replay value.

As for racing games:
If you happen to like the Jak trilogy, try your hands on Jak X: Combat Racing. It's not the best racing game ever, but it's entertaining and challenging enough. This game is sorta like Mario Kart, but with more explosions and you can destroy other character's vehicles (which I absolutely enjoy doing~)

That's my tips.
