Phoenix Wright's Apartment

Phoenix was tossing and turning between the irritatingly itchy cotton bedspread of his bed. He was having trouble sleeping with this irritance but he was also thinking about what had happened the past year.

Maya had departed for Kurain merely three months ago and he was missing her intensely. He had gotten through his fifth case, saving Lana Skye from a future of blackmail and anguish, unable to fight against the iron grip of the malicious Damon Gant. Edgeworth had mysteriously disappeared leaving a note stating nothing but "Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death."

His train of thoughts was interuptted abrubtly by the chiming of the Steel Samurai ringtone emamating from the mobile phone on his pine bedside table. He rolled over lazily and grabbed the phone.

He attempted to focus his vision, and sleeply answered the phone.

"H-Hello?" he yawned.

"Hey pal." said an all too familiar voice.

"Oh hello, Detective. How can I help you?"

"I thought you might wanna see this news report on the t.v. You know, with your righteousness complex and stuff."

Ignoring Gumshoe's nonsensical comment, he turned on the t.v set and flicked to the news channel.

"The person responsible for the three local murders has finally been caught! The culprit responsible for these heinous acts was none other than local recording studio owner, Mick Richards. The three victims include a popular pianist at local restaurant Borscht, a junior CSI at the police station and a homicide detective. Richards is currently being held at the detention center for questioning and awaiting trial, which is scheduled to be held within the next few days."

Phoenix looked at the t.v set with incredulosity, almost missing the repeated calls of "Pal, are you there?" coming out of his cell phone.

"Yes, Detective. I'm here."

"I thought you might like an interesting case, pal. So are you interested? I can give Mr. Richards some notice!"

Phoenix pondered the proposition. He had be doing nothing recently, but sitting idly on the sofa, eating junk and watching the tv. It was a tall order but so was Lana Skye's case.

"Who's prosecuting, Gumshoe?"

Gumshoe cleared his throat. "Ummm, we don't know yet, pal. After all, Ms Skye is in detention, Mr Edgeworth is gone missing, Mr von Karma is...gone and Mr Payne is..well..Mr Payne. We'll have something sorted out anyway."

"Tell Mr Richards that I'll be down at 10:00am."

"Sure, pal."

Phoenix hung up the phone and before he knew it was asleep again.

Detention Center

Phoenix stepped in the door of the meeting room to see a melancholy looking man sitting with his head on the table. He had long spiky hair and was wearing an expensive looking silk suit. This must be that record exec, Mick Richards.

"Excuse me, Mr Richards?"

The man barely lifted his head up of the table to see the form standing behind the glass wall in front of him. He had large bags beneath his eyes, and the red hue of his blue eyes suggested that he had been crying.

"Phoenix Wright. I'm a defense attorney. I heard about your case on the news and was wondering if you required my assistance."

The man lifted his head and sat up straight, looking distinctly dishevelled. He took a deep breath, and quietly mumbled, "No can "assist" me now..."

"Sorry?"

"Surely you've seen that news report...I've been convicted of serial murder...Every defense attorney has laughed me off..." Richards bowed his head and looked sadly at the floor.

Ignoring the fact that this statement sounded horrificly familiar, Phoenix pressed on.

"I'm not like every defense attorney, Mr. Richards. Please tell me the details of what has occured."

Richards looked up again, this time with a trace of hopefulness spread accross his features.

"Yesterday, I recieved a call from a representitive of a business partner. He told me to meet him in an underground office complex near Hazakurain. When I went inside the office, I smelled blood. I went inside and saw a man slumped over in a chair with a medical drip sticking into him."

"And what did this man look like?"

"He was a detective from what I could tell. I didn't pay much attention to his facial features."

"That's ok. What happened next?"

"Well apparently, two detectives had recieved a complaint about noise near the monastery. They saw my car and found me..."

Phoenix though quietly to himself. " This isn't good. Richards was found at the crime scene and he had no alibi..."

"So what do you think, Mr Wright?"

Phoenix's train of thought suddenly came to a halt.
"Sorry, didn't catch that."

"Are you going to take my case?"

Phoenix knew that the case seemed bad at the off but he had to give it a shot. This guy didn't seem to be capable of murder.

"Yes, I will. If you excuse me, I'm going to go look at the scene of the crime."

March 23, 12:10pm
Office Complex, Hazakurain

Phoenix had retreated from the cold chill of the harsh weather outside into the dank hallways of this underground complex. He looked around for the office in which the crime in question took place, when a familiar voice shouted "Hold it, pal!"

"Gak! Detective Gumshoe!"

Gumshoe came running up looking angry. When he saw Phoenix, his face softened.

"Ah, Mr. Wright! I had a suspicion that I'd be seeing you around."

"Detective, could you tell me what's going with the case?"

"Well, me and a superior have been searching the crime scene for a while now, pal. We've come up with a murder weapon, a bloody shoeprint and some fingerprints."

"What was the murder weapon?"

Gumshoe brought Phoenix over to a table where a bloody iron pipe was lying.

"As you can see, there's a lot of blood around the top part of this pipe so it's safe to say that the victim was beaten to death with it. If you look down further, you'll see some grip marks. I did a cursory exam and the fingerprints look to be Mark Richards!"

Phoenix twitched slightly. His case was getting worse by the second. His client's fingerprints were clearly on the murder weapon, which was totally covered in blood.

"One of the top detectives at the precinct was the arresting officer. He has a picture of the murderer at the crime scene as well. Would you like to meet him?"

Gumshoe ushered Phoenix over to a man who was hunched over a desk, examining it with a magnifying glass.

Probably checking for clues

The man turned around and shook his thick golden hair. He had olive toned skin and looked like a man of power.
The detective placed the magnifying glass on the table and extended his gloved hand for Phoenix to shake.

"Greetings, Marc King. Homicide detective."

Phoenix looked at the hand for a minute before sharing a firm handshake with the detective.

"Phoenix Wright, attorney at law."

King withdrew his hand and stroked his chin thoughfully.

"Wright...Wright...Oh! You're Phoenix Wright from the Goodman Murder Case aren't you?!?"

Phoenix blushed uncomfortably. Compliments from higher-ups were an unusual occurance.

"Thank you, Mr King. I don't suppose you've an autopsy report worked up yet have you?"

King pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his jacket pocket. He extracted one gently and lit it with his lighter. He took a long, meditive drag before answering.
Releasing the smoke with a lond breath, he answered with.

"Not yet, Phoenix. But with my experience on the force, it's clear the man was beaten to death. The iron pipe Gumshoe showed you just a few minutes ago was clearly the murder weapon, as it was in his hand when I came into the room."

"You're definate about these details, Mr. King?"

King blew a straying lock out of his face and responded with "Positive. I saw it first-hand after all."

Gumshoe checked his watch. "Excuse me, Mr King? Lunch time."

King clapped his hands in delight. "Oh goody! I've been dying for something to eat! Sorry Phoenix, we'll have to escort you out of here."

Phoenix felt disappointed as he wanted to investigate the scene without Gumshoe or any vigilante breathing down his neck. King was being pretty reasonable, so he didn't want to try him.

March 23, 2:25pm
Detention Center

Richards was waiting expectantly for Phoenix at the detention center. He was looking rather downhearted but when he noticed his attorney walking in the room, he brightened up instantaneously.

"Mr Wright!" he exclaimed. "How did the investigation go? I hope it went goo..."

Richards stopped when he saw the rather sullen expression spread across the lawyer's visage. Richards feared the worse.

"Is...there something wrong, Mr Wright?"

Phoenix sighed deeply.

"Mr Richards. You aren't lying to me, are you?"

Richards looked offended, he swallowed.

"Mr Wright...this is a matter of my freedom. I wouldn't lie about something in this instance!"

"The arresting detective told me that when he arrived on the scene he saw you with the murder weapon in your hands!"

Richards' face fell. Phoenix feared the worst. Could he defending a guilty client? Of course, he could be just misinterpreting facts. After all, he suspected that Will Powers HAD commited the murder when the evidence heavily implicated him. Finally, Richards had found the courage to speak.

"Yes, I had the pipe in my hand when Detective King walked into the room, but I didn't kill him! I just picked up the weapon, by accident! It was a stupid accident, a really stupid accident...."

"I'm afraid that a claim from you won't mean anything in court. It is you after all who is suspected of wrong doing."

Tears slowly began to stream from Richards' watery blue eyes. He put his head in his hands. A hefty sigh emerged from his mouth. He took a series of deep breaths.

"Mr Richards?"

"It's all because of her. That must be why he's doing this", Richards muttered.

"What? Because of who?"

Richards flushed a colour of deepest scarlet. He was frightened now.

"No-one!"

Richards burst out of the chair and ran to the door.

Curious and curiouser...A man who claims he didn't commit murder...An eyewitness who saw him with a weapon in his hand...If Richards was innocent, there has to be something I've overlooked..

March 24
Defendant Lobby No. 3
09:53am

Phoenix flipped deftly through the court record for anything that would help strengthen his case for Richards. He was not optimistic after Richards comment yesterday about "him doing this because of her"... It was ominous and something about it gave Phoenix the shivers. He sighed deeply, there was nothing in here that could help him. Maybe some new info would emerge during the trial. It was weird not having an assistant with him for a trial. Gumshoe stumbled through the door with a smile on his face.

"Hey pal, you look pretty down. I have a surprise for you."

Phoenix looked halfheartedly expecting to see a box of instant noodles (the detective was TOTALLY OBSESSED with them).

"NIIIIIIICKKK!!!!!" screamed a voice.

"Maya?" said Phoenix incredulously.

Maya flew through the doorway behind Gumshoe, her costume slowly fluttering in the wind. She ran up to Phoenix and grabbed him in a bonecrushing embrace.

"Wow Maya, what are you doing here?" said Phoenix breathlessly.

"Duh, I'm here to help you with the case! I saw the report on the news after the Pink Princess and I had a feeling that you'd take it! I have some info for you!"

Phoenix smiled, looking at the file in Maya's delicate pink tinged hand.

"So, what is that file you have there?"

"It's a personell file for Mr. Richards. It's all his personal information. You never know if this might come in handy! By the way, the murder weapon from the second murder was found at the latest crime scene."

"Hmm, thanks Maya. I might just have a use for this."

March 24,
Courtroom No.3
10:00am

The gavel was swiftly clapped down to attain silence within the courtroom. The Judge began his opening statements.

"The court is now in session for the trial of Michael Richards."

Phoenix looked over at the prosecution desk. A tall slender man of around 24 was standing there, it wasn't Edgeworth. He was a very imposing figure, his black hair slightly moving when he moved his head, his slightly menacing blue-black eyes.

"The prosecution is ready, Your Honor."

"The defense is ready, Your Honor."

"Mr. Morrison, your opening statement please."

The prosecutor shook his thick hair out of his face before pressing on. "Thank you, Your Honor. The defendant has been called to trial under suspicion of a serial killing. We have decisive evidence and a decisive witness."

"That's fine, Mr. Morrison. You may call your witness."

Phoenix looked slightly to the right of him to look at Maya slouched over the table looking at the file she had given him. She really wanted to help this time.

"A trainee CSI was murdered outside a house in her housing estate, Vera Green. However, a woman witnessed this murder. This woman is a witness to the second murder of three. She is a local resident in the housing estate in which the murder took place. Will Cherie Martin take the stand?"

A beautiful woman slowly made her way to the stand.

"Will the witness please state her name and occupation for the record?"

"Cherie Martin. I'm a professional beautician."

"Where were you on the night of the murder?"

"I was at home. As usual," said Cherie rather bitterly.

"Please testify to what you saw."

Cherie took a deep breath and cleared her throat. She clearly was slightly nervous, as was expected.

"It was around 9.00pm. I was in my house, when I heard gun shots. I looked out the window when I saw a person standing over a body.

"Thank you, witness. Mr Wright, your cross examination if you will."

"9.00pm, you sure?"

"Absolutely. Around that time, I glanced over at clock, I believe the readout said...9.02pm."

"Thank you. Could you be more specific about this person at the crime scene."

"Well, the person looked like a man from the build. I'd
say, he was around six foot height wise..."

"Six foot, no more, no less?"

"Yep. Six foot almost definately."

"I find that hard to believe."

"Why is that, Wright?" sneered Morrison.

"I have a personell report from the record company the defendant owns. It lists his height at some...6'10!"

"But, I saw him. He looked around six foot...unless I was mistaken..."

"I request the witness testify again, Your Honor!" said Phoenix with a smile. "Specifically about the gunshots you heard and the suspect at the scene."

"I agree, Mr Wright. Witness, could you testify about these events?"

"Yes your Honor. I was standing near the window that night. I heard two bangs. Naturally I looked out the window right away. The street was rather dim but I could've sworn I saw a man of around the same build of the defendant standing over that body."

Maya looked at Phoenix brightly. He had a good feeling about this cross-examination. Nevertheless, to be safe
Phoenix looked at the court record again. There was a major inconsistancy with something he was given this morning.

"If you would, your cross-examination Mr Wright," said the judge.

"Witness, could you tell us how dark it was that night?"

Cherie raised her hand to her chin thoughtfully. "Hmm, it was pretty dark, too dark to see a face. But there was someone there holding a gun over a fallen body."

"Why was it dark?"

Morrison answered this time. "The street lights were on the fritz and as a result prohibited light from being cast on the street. No big mystery, Mr. Wright."

"You say you heard two bangs, Ms. Martin?"

"Yes, certain."

The judge shook his head. "Is this line of questioning going to lead somewhere?"

"Yes, Your Honor. For you see, the murder weapon in this murder was fired THREE times."

"Gak!" coughed Morrison.

"If you look at the report, it clearly says the murder weapon was fired three times. How do you explain this inconsistancy?"

"But I only heard two bangs I swear!" said Cherie nervously. "Two bangs that was it!"

"Do you have proof?" said Phoenix.

"Naturally, Mr Wright," said Morrison with a smirk. "We don't all blab out baseless claims with no evidence. Would the witness please explain her proof?"

"I have a sound recording! On my phone!"

"But you were looking out the window! Why would you be recording?" siad Phoenix in disbelief.

"I was recording a song on my phone, my stereo is by the window you see. The stereo was too low when I recorded it but when I was about to delete afterwards, I released the gunshots might be on it."

Morrison smirked again. "Could you please play the recording for the court, witness?"

Cherie pulled her pink flip phone out of her pocket and pressed a few buttons. Morrison took the phone.

"Now I would ask the court to listen carefully."

The sound in the background was clearly a lowly played song. Sounded like Avril Lavigne, Phoenix smirked. A low strange sound eminated from the phone followed shortly by two loud bangs.

"Happy now, Wright? TWO bangs. That's it. I think that is all we required from this witness..."

What?? There's so many unanswered questions!

"Hold it!" screeched Maya.

"Yes, Ms. Fey?" muttered the judge.

"Listen to the recording again! There's something at the beginning!"

There was a weird sound at the beginning. It was a pretty quiet noise

The recording played again. The noise was heard again.

"Hmm," thought Morrison. "Sounds like a suppressed bullet.."

"Sorry, Mr Morrison?" said the judge.

"Suppressed bullets. A noise like escaping gas was heard before the two bangs. In all likelihood, it was a bullet fired with a suppressed firearm. Doesn't seem all that significant after all."

"Your view on this, Mr Wright?"

"The testimony...proves it was not the defendant at the scene!"

"What?" spluttered Morrison. "How?"

"Simple," said Phoenix while banging the desk. "The defendant has no access to a suppressor! He doesn't even have a firearm!"

"Gah!" spat Morrison.

"Also, why would he suppress his gun to kill, then un-supress the gun? It's nonsensical!"

"Ahhh!" said the judge in response to the comment. "So what does this mean, Mr Wright?"

"It means, that the person at the scene was not the defendant! The person at the scene may have framed him. He fired once with a suppressed pistol to kill his victim. Then he fired twice to create a witness! I now rule that it is impossible to declare a verdict on my client!"

This is a transition chapter so It's bound to be crappy. The NEXT chapter's where it's all at.

Courtroom No.2
District Court
March 24th, 12:30pm

*bang* went the gavel on the desk. The judge took a slow breath and thought carefully before giving his statement.

"My opinion is this. While it's likely that the defendant may have been at the scene of the second murder. However, Mr Wright has argued the opposite and has supported his argument exceedingly well! Mr Morrison, do you have any witnesses?"

Morrison sighed deeply, unfamiliar with the unsettling feeling of not being in control of a case. "No, Your Honor. I currently lack a witness. Currently..."

"Very well. I hereby suspend the proceedings until tommorrow! I urge the defense and prosecution to find decisive evidence so we can get this mess sorted out ASAP!"

*bang*

Defendant Lobby 2
District Court
March 24, 12:36pm

As soon as Phoenix strolled out of the court room, Richards came bounding up to Phoenix.

"Oh thank you so, so much, Mr Wright! I'd heard you were good but that performance was...just..wow!"

Phoenix blushed. Not often he'd gotten such a complement.
"Oh no problem, Mr Richards. It's...uh..just my job!"

Maya appeared at Phoenix's side. "Can we get hamburgers before we do our investigation?"

Office Complex
Hazakurain
March 23, 1:40pm

Maya hopped off the train, still munching on the eighth or so take-away burger that she'd bought at McDonalds. Phoenix laughed inwardly, thinking quietly to himself that Maya had to have an godly metabolism to eat so much and stay slim.

They walked down the steps into the dilapidated office complex and bumped into King at the crime scene.

"Oh hi, Phoenix," King said brightly. "Is this your sister?"

"Whaat?" shouted Maya.

"Calm down, Maya" laughed Phoenix. "Marc, this is Maya Fey, my assistant. Maya, this is Marc King, the lead investigator for this case."

Maya smiled in embarassment. "S-s-sorry." Blushing, she held out her hand for the handsome detective to shake. He did so with a great amount of zeal.

"Woo! I'm so pumped! We got some good evidence today!"

"Could I ask you what that is, Marc?"

"Nope, sorry Phoenix. Police confidential information. You know what I hate? Secrets. Can't stand em. I'd tell you other wise, though."

Didn't I hear that "secrets" thing before?

"Well gotta go. Byeeee!"

"Wait, Marc!"

"I've gotta a lunch date with Gumshoe, Nicky-boy. If you wanna talk pop around my office later, here's my card!"

He ran up the steps, when Phoenix turned around she noticed Maya looking at Marc go up the stairs.

"Maya, are you looking at his ass?"

Maya jumped. "Wha..no..I wasn't...how..he.."

"I never knew you were an ass-girl, Maya!"

"Shut up Nick!"

Phoenix laughed. He shook his head. Okay levity over. Phoenix took a quick glance at the chair in which the final victim was found. A few bloody handprints, but no prints were found of them. Clearly, the murderer was wearing gloves. There were a few bloody footprints leading away from the chair. Clearly the murderer had stepped in the blood.

"Hey Nick?" piped Maya.

"Yeah?"

"Do you think Richards did it?"

Do I think Richards did it? It seems pretty obvious that the second murder wasn't caused by him. I'm only concerned about what Richards said yesterday. That "he" is doing this because of "her". I think I might go talk to him.

Chapter Six

Detention Center
Visitors Room
March 24, 3:05pm

Phoenix was already seated at the window when Richards walked in in a dark gray shirt. He looked slightly confused but his face also carried a look that he already knew what this discussion was going to be about.
Maya was back at the office. She said she wanted to get home and catch a Pink Princess special on the TV.

"Y-y-y-you wanted t-to see me, Mr Wright?" mumbled Richards.

"Yes, Mr Richards," said Phoenix with a serious face on him. "I wanted to talk about yesterday."

"About what, Mr Wright?"

"About what you said. That "he" was doing this because of "her". Could you please elaborate on what you mean by this?"

Richards opened and closed his mouth, almost like a fish. He then sighed. "I suppose I owe you, for today."

"I know I was framed for these murders. I know why. It was my fault "she" died..."

"Who is she?"

"Starla."

"Starla...Wasn't she a pop-rock star or something."

"Yeah, that's right. She w-was signed onto my label. I suppose...I pushed her a bit too much, so much that she went into heroin. And...d-d-d-died as a result of an overdose."

Who would be a man who could be involved with Richards, and have a grudge to frame him?

"And who is this he? What is his role in all of this."

"That...I cannot say. But I can say this, the person who committed the first murder has grounds to commit the other two. That...that's..all I'm gonna say. I'm sorry Mr Wright, but I really, really don't want to talk about this. Just take this article it'll tell you all that you could possibly want to know."

Richards pulled a newspaper clipping out of his pocket and handed it to Phoenix via a hole in the glass separating the inmate and the visitor. Phoenix took the article and glanced over it.

Feb 02
The Daily Inquirer

Today, pop-rock solo singing sensation Starla King was found dead in her apartment. Starla, 31, had just completed a world tour and was getting ready to leave for the recording studio. Examination of the scene reveals that the star died of heroin overdose. Fans lament in their thousands of the death of the singer. Her brother "Marc" has stated "that she will be
sorely missed."

"Marc? King? Is that the detective Marc King?"

"Yes, Starla was his sister. And Marc is..."him"."

"He's the one?"

"Yes, He blames me for the death of his older sister. Maybe... maybe he's the murderer and he tried to frame me for this? It...would give him a motive."

"But you said whoever commited the first murder commited the rest! There's no evidence so I can't implicate him as the murderer."

"T-t-try his office. He might have something there."

"Thank you, Mick. I'll do that."

Phoenix walked out the detention center room, leaving Richards looking extremely distraught. It pained him to make Richards part with such a deep rooted secret, one that he clearly didn't want to talk about. As he stepped out into the usual hustle and bustle of the street, he was greeted with a pleasant refreshing shower. As he flagged down a taxi, he pulled out his phone. Maya will be shocked to here this!

Chapter Seven

Criminal Affairs
Police Station
March 24, 3:45pm

"Hello pal! What's with the sullen face?"

Phoenix scratched his spiky head. He knew Gumshoe was going to take this weird as he usually does but what else could he do?

"Eh...Detective Gumshoe. I have an idea who the murderer is...I kinda think it's *ahem* Marc King..."

"WHAAAAAAT???"

Phoenix sighed inwardly. He knew Gumshoe's reaction would be like this...he did over-react. To the extreme.

"Why...why do you think this pal? Detective King is too nice, he's nicer to me than Marshall was, and Marshall was like a mentor to me!"

"I was talking to Richards yesterday when he mentioned something. Something odd."

"It wouldn't have to do with "he's doin' this because of her" or somethin' would it?"

"Yeah! Wait, how'd you know?"

"He said something similar to us during the interrogation. Do you think that Mr. King is the "he"?"

"Yup. Hear read this," said Phoenix while slipping the folded article out of his pocket. He unfolded it, smoothed out the creases and handed the article to Gumshoe.

As Gumshoe's eyes raked the article, Phoenix noticed that his face was falling in his trademarked kicked puppy look. "Marc King, you think that's our Detective King?"

"Yeah, it seems he was related to Starla, that singer. Because Richards pushed her hard, Starla became stressed and fell into a heroin addiction. She passed away from an overdose, and as a result King blames Richards for her death. Thus setting up the motive to frame him for murder."

Gumshoe sighed deeply. He pulled a keycard out his pocket. "Here, take this. It's a key to King's office. You should find some clues in there pal."

Phoenix took the keycard with some resistance from Gumshoe. Phoenix smiled at him, and Gumshoe released the card.

"Would King not be in his office?"

"Nope. He's off on yet another lunch date. It should be clear."

King's Office
Police Station

Phoenix slid the card key gently through the reader and the door gave an ominious *click* before opening. He walked into the dark room and flicked on the lights. The lights flickered before they came on and Phoenix noticed he was in an elegant office.

Phoenix decided he'd look quickly through the office, given the fact that he knew that King could be back at any minute. "Snooping around people offices, isn't very nice Wright.."

He turned around to come face to face with Prosecutor Morrison, who was carrying a file in his right hand. "Gak! Morrison!"

"Doubtless, you've figured out the truth. That King may be behind the murder. That Richards is in fact innocent?"

"How did you..."

"If you're going to search the office, Mr Wright, I've already done so. I found this in a locked drawer. It's the murder weapon for the first murder, and I fingerprinted it personally. A glass bottle. It shows fingerprints from King's right hand."

"What?"

"Don't believe me, here's the results." Morrison opened the file he had been carrying. He searched through it and pulled out a white envelope. "Read it."

Phoenix yanked the document out of the envelope and read it.

Fingerprint Data
Examiner: Jake Morrison
Object: Glass bottle.
Fingerprint?: Yes, from King's right hand
Notes: The bottle has blood around the shattered part. On blood tests which I also performed, the blood is shown to exactly like the victims. Therefore this weapon was used to kill the first victim.

"Oh you'll be wanting this too. It's a case report on the three victims. Read it well."

Phoenix stared at Morrison in exasperation. "Why are you helping me?"

"I'm not like every prosecutor. I live for justice, not the Guilty verdict. I wanted justice to be served, I don't waned an innocent man's life to be ruined for my vanity. I'm not that type of person."

"Wow...thanks you so much..Jake."

"Hmph, I suppose I thank you too, Phoenix. Without you, I
is improbable that King would get his just desserts. I
will not be some pushover so that you can pick up an easy
win tommorrow. I will put a fight, believe you me."

With that, Morrison walked out the open doorway and disappeared. Phoenix smiled to himself.

Looks like I'm finally getting to the bottom of this.

Wright And Co Law Offices
March 24, 5:05pm

"So you really think Detective King did it?" asked Maya sadly.

"I'm afraid so Maya. Richards said to me that he was sure that the person who had commited the first murder did the other two. And Morrison gave me some evidence. Fingerprint data for the first murder and the autospy report for the three victims. Wanna have a read?"

Phoenix put the autospy report on the table and opened it up. Inside were three documents.

Incident TA-3
13/3/2017
Victim: Peter Ivory
Occupation: Pianist at Mick Richards' Record company
Time of death: 02:35am
Crime scene: Ivory's House

18/3/2017
Victim: Vera Green
Occupation: CSI at the local precinct
Time of death: 21:20pm
Crime scene: Outside 212 Cherrywood Field

23/3/2017
Victim: Lee Peterson
Occupation: Homicide detective at local precinct
Time of death: 3:55am
Crime Scene: Office Complex, Hazakurain
COD: Beaten to death
MW: Iron pole

Maya looked at the reports. "So they didn't find the murder weapon huh?"

"Morrison did. Before me. He did a fingerprint test and examined the blood on it. There's clearly some blood at the end of the bottle and King's fingerprints are on it!"

"But Mr King is so nice! He doesn't seem like the kind to kill someone..."

"Neither did Chief Gant."

Maya sighed. She really seemed nice.

I can hear her thoughts now. "How could someone with such a nice ass be a killer??"

"WHY ARE YOU SMILING, NICK?"

Chapter 9

????
March 25, 09:45am

*bang* The judge shook his head. "Honestly Mr Wright. The prosecution is out of witnesses, they've called EVERYONE. Have YOU any witnesses?"

Phoenix laughed. "Yes, Your Honor. Ummm....fuck! Where is he? He was just here..."

"Mr Wright, for swearing in court...I'ma pop a penalty in yo ass."

Morrison shook his head. "When did you became so gangsta, Your Honor?"

"Wakey-wakey, Nick! We're gonna be going into the court in about ten minutes!"

Phoenix snapped into conciousness. He woke up on that really comfy ruby toned leather sofa in the defendant's lobby. Maya was sitting at his knee.

"Honestly Nick, you shouldn't be fallin asleep before a trial."

Richards appeared in the doorway leading the busy street flanked by bailiffs. He made his way over to Phoenix gingerly.

"*ahem* Hello, M-Mr Wright. How are you today?"

"Just fine, Mr Richards. I'm almost certain I know who the real killer is this time."

"O-okay." Richards was silent, with a guilty face on him.

Phoenix was going to say something but Maya beat him to it. "What's wrong Mr Richards?"

"Oh nothing, just tired."

"Will the defendant and his attorney please come to the courtroom?"

Phoenix straightened up and cracked his neck.

It's go time...crap, that hurt.

Courtroom No. 2
District Court
March 25, 10:00am

*bang* "Court is now in session."

"The defense is ready, Your Honor."

"The prosecution is ready, Your Honor."

"Your opening statement if you will, Mr Morrison."

"Thank you, Your Honor. Mr Wright proved yesterday that
it was unlikely that the defendant was at the scene but that does not automatically clear him of the other two murders. We would like to call a witness, the arresting officer at the scene of the third murder. Detective Marc King to the stand!"

King walked to stand rather calmly, with a cigarette in his hand.

"Witness, please state your name and occupation for the record."

King took a long drag and slowly let the silver mist flow out of his mouth.

"My name is Marc King. I'm a homicide detective."

"Mr King, you arrested Mr Richards correct?"

"Yep. He was the one of the scene."

"Please testify about your arrest."

"It was around 4am. I'd gotten a call from the precinct. Apparently they'd gotten an anonymous call about a complaint near Hazakurain. Because I was in the area, they told me to check it out. I saw the defendant there, with a iron pole in his hand. I took a picture and placed him under arrest."

"Hmmm, pretty conclusive. Your picture will be submitted into evidence naturally. Mr Wright, your cross examination."

"So 4am right?" said Phoenix.

"Objection!" said Morrison. "The time of death was 4am. The defense knows this."

"Sustained. Mr Wright, please be more careful about your questions."

"Okay. Why were you near the crime scene?"

"That office complex used to be a well known center of drug activity. On the off chance that we might catch some druggies up there we might catch someone."

"My next question, what was the defendant like when you found him?"

"I'd say he looked pretty pissed off. He had the most aggressive face on him."

"Objection! Look at the picture, Mr King! The defendant is clearly confused in the picture!"

Morrison laughed. "Please Mr Wright. You don't honestly think you're going to refute this testimony over something so frivilious?"

The judge nodded in agreement to Morrison's statement.
"He's right, Mr Wright. You cannot find a flaw in this testimony.."

"Then have him testify about the first murder! We haven't heard anything about that."

"Very well, Mr King. Please testify to the details of the first murder."

"Hmmm. It happened pretty late at night. The victim was Pete Ivory, a pianist with Richards' record company. A good friend of mine, as it were. Cause of death was due to blunt trauma. Unfortunately the murder weapon was not found on the scene."

"Objection! I believe I have the weapon in question here. A broken glass bottle?"

King sighed wearily. "And where did you fnd that?"

"Your office. And your fingerprints are on it! I have a document to prove it!"

The courtroom erupted into a cacophony of murmurs.

*BANG BANG BANG* "Order! Mr King, what have you done!

King lit up another smoke and glared at Phoenix. "You honestly have no sense do you? Your Honor, may I testify once more?"

"Very well, this is the LAST testimony."

"Let's see. A broken bottle. If I used this to hit Pete, wouldn't his blood be on it? With no blood on the bottle you can't tie me to this crime!"

Phoenix looked at the bottle in bewilderment. Indeed there were no trace of blood on it what so ever. What the hell was Morrison talking about the blood tests he did?

"Don't think you'll get away so easy, Mr King" said Morrison. "I personally did some tests on the bottle, including a luminol test. The result showed an amount of blood, which I tested to reveal that it was infact the victims. "

"Mr Morrison, are you sure of the accuracy of your data?" said the judge.

"Yes, Your Honor. My father used to be a scientific investigator and I've learned quite a bit off him."

King dropped the cigarette and stamped it out. "Well...the cat's out of the bag....I'll come clean."

Phoenix was not surprised. He knew it'd turn out this way.

"I hit Pete....I was kinda drunk and I hit him. I panicked when I saw the blood, so I grabbed the bottle and wiped it as best as I could. I hid it in the dresser...."

"But why did you murder the other two?" asked Phoenix.

"I was scared...I was afraid that the CSI going to find out who did it so I killed her. And I tried to create a witness...I killed my partner because he found the weapon...he had it with him and I killed him in case he tried to test it...I beat him and before I knew it.. I was calling his dead body names... and I realised I'd killed again."

"I don't really understand why you tried to pin this on Mr Richards? Is it because of your sister?"

"About a day after the second murder, I found a suicide note in one of her diaries when I was looking through my memory box of her. It said that she was "commiting suicide because of the infernal record manager." She said...she was gonna kill herself with a heroin overdose.... when I killed the detective...I realised I could have my revenge. I posed as a business partner and called him. He hadn't heard me in ages so he didn't recognise me."

The judge nodded. "This wraps up the case rather neatly. I find the defendant, Mick Richards not gulity. That is all court is adjourned!"

Defendant Lobby No. 2

What a rollercoaster ride! I never thought it would end!

Maya appeared glumly at his shoulder. "I can't believe Marc did it. He was such a nice guy."

"The murderer sometimes is that nice guy though."

Richards walked up happily. "Thank you so much, Mr Wright! I can't thank you enough!"

"Oh Mr. Richards, well done!"

Maya looked at Richards, "Is it true, Mr Richards? Did you really push her that hard?"

Richards looked at his feet and when his head was raised again a stream of tears was running down his cheek.

"She really was A-Class talent. I thought I was doing right. Clearly...I-I-I was wrong."

"Hey, pal!"

Phoenix knew instantly who it was. "Yes, Detective Gumshoe?"

"Good work, pal! I did well to call you huh?"

"Really, M-M-Mr Wright. Thank you so much. How about dinner for the four of us, my treat?"

Maya brightened up. "Nonsense, Mr Richards! Nick will pay!"

Nick shook his head.

OBJECTION!!!

BTW, the "honestly your honor, when did u come so gangsta sequence" is in the PW:NG script coz I though it up
