Looking back on the gameplay videos, I'm a little disappointed with the Castle Siege stage. I thought the stage would actually break apart when players "fell through" but unfortunately it's just an obfuscated switch-up. Oh well...

I honestly don't remember where I heard this - probably IGN - but the stage was 'dumbed down' for the demo, probably so people could see all three parts of the stage in a two-minute match. It is actually supposed to be as you describe in the final build.

No. No I havn't. I've never owned a gamecube, and I havn't found out how to set up my wii to play them.
Besides that, fighting games are not my kind of games. Even though this looks fairly interesting, especially when it has singleplayer. I wouldn't try out Melee because it looks like it's a party game, and frankly, I don't know anyone who would be interested in playing a game with me. Why? Because I don't know anyone who actually likes video games that terribly much.

Ah, that's too bad. Melee is, indeed, especially fun if you can play it with friends - although it's still a great game when played alone, if you don't like fighting games anyway I wouldn't recommend it. It's also a game driven by nostalgia - if you've played Nintendo games (pretty much any) you'll be noticing all kinds of fun references everywhere. Brawl will be even better at this.

The problem is "what controller do I need?", and "do I need some kind of memory card?". I want to find out that first before I start going out buying games.

Indeed. I mean, there are a few that I don't know (and I hope it's possible, in a single player game, to de-select some characters), but the most I DO know. It's quite interesting, unlike most fighter games, where it's just a large ammount of random, uninspirable characters. Well, street fighter DID have some pretty nice character design, and I like the street fighter game I have, but generally, I don't like them. It still doesn't change the fact that the most memorable video game characters for me are NOT included, though...

Note that it's a Nintendo game. Not an everyone vs. everyone game. Licensing is a horrible thing ;)

I have a few good points to know why an AC character might not be in it, 1) KK Rider, there is speculation he is in it, but he isn't, he appears on the Stage on Saturday at 8PM. So there is no way he will be in playable the game. 2) The generic male/female characters are in the background fishing, so no way it would be them. 3) Tom Nook? Wait, what moves does he have again, just want to know?
I hate to burst that bubble but AC will not be playable, at least they will be ATs and Stage characters only.
I would assume that Sonic and Snake are the only NON nintendo characters to make appearances in brawl, if I am wrong then probably they might add another 3rd party character as an Assist most likely, but for right now I got nothing. Maybe Squeenix will allow the addition of Final Fantasy Generics as fighters? I mean, they had Black Mage in Mario Hoops 3on3.
Anyways, that should end my rant, I am getting sick of these AC rumors going about,

Well, first off, I don't intend to start the war up again, but let me just point out some things.
The Animal Crossing has a logo. That is sufficient evidence that there will be a character from the game, like all the other player characters have. AC has a stage, AT, original item, and music. Why would Nintendo put so much into the AC world, give them a logo, and then not have a PC? If a character comes from a game not of a PC series, then he/she/it/they have the SSB logo (like Battlefield, Devil, Opening Music, Smoke Ball, etc.).
As for Tom Nook... well... how about the bug-catching net, axe, fishing pole, sign post, shovel, the millions of AC knick-knacks and items you can have in your house that he sells, and that he has fists, feet, and a tail. For the FS, well, he is notorious for those houses you have to buy from him, so dropping one would be fitting. Tom Nook has a very wide selection of weapons to use, not to mention a larger selection of things to throw. One day, I might write out a move-set for him, and even though that's not proof or anything because anyone can have one (except the ones I mentioned earlier), it might be enough to convince others.

For some reason, I have to think that someone from FF12 will be in, because they are realeasing a sequel... called Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for the DS... So If they bring in another Third party (which they are) we may be able to See Vaan or Balthier.

Alright, If the game can only one set of generic male/female characters as you claim, Animal Crossing (J64/GC) would have only 1 house with one player in it. It doesn't, It has four house to support a single character each. And in Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS) 4 players can live in the game's one house. Plus, You can travel to other towns with people you swapped friend codes with and play in there town. And in the upcoming Animal Crossing Wii, The development team is exploring potential ways to take advantage of the WiiConnect24 feature such as allowing friends to visit your town or leave messages while the machine is on or in standby. Not to mention that the star of the Animal Crossing Movie was a Generic Female Character. So, This whole series history debunks your reasoning of only one set of generic characters.
Plus, Animal Crossing has been an important series for Nintendo since Animal Forest for the Japanese Nintendo 64:
1) If the game wasn't sucessful in Japan, Nintendo would have never bothered translating, making improving certain aspects and even creating new items for the American audience. In fact, the transition from the Japanese to the American verison was consider so great that the American go retranslated in japanese and released again. Not to mention the fact that people are still buying the game in both America and Japan despite the release of the Wii.
2) It was one of the few games that had successfully used the otherwise "failed" Game Boy Advance-GameCube cable and the "failed" E-reader concepts.
3) Trophy verisons of Tom Nook, Mr. Resetti and Tokekeke where placed in Melee despite the fact that America had little knowledge of Animal Crossing's American release.
4) Animal Crossing DS was one of the first DS games to massively use the Wi-Fi Connection which then has lead the way for other games to use the Wi-Fi connection like Mario Kart DS and Pokemon Diamond/Pearl.
5) The series had a strong history of sales to this day as the Gamecube verison is of the best selling games the system has. The DS verison has sold over 8.03 million copies worldwide only be out done by Nintendogs, New Super Mario Brothers and Pokemon D/P.
6) Animal Crossing Wii was one of the first titles that was announced with the Wii Launch while other series still haven't gotten any signs of a Wii Game like StarFox and has been in production since the end of 2005. This shows that Nintendo has a strong belief in the Animal Crossing Series.
Also, Not to mention the amount of AC merchandice out does almost all other Nintendo series except of the Mario series and the Pokemon series.
For Nintendo not to give a series that gives Mario, Link, Pikachu and Kirby a run for their fame and fortune a character in Brawl is just plain unexplainable and unforgiveable.
My guess for the playable character, The Animal Crossing Male and Female Humans using the tools to the B button moves. Example, B and Down would be the shovel which can be used a Pitfall seed effect while B and Up would be the Fishing Rod like Kirby's B-Up Cutter move while being to hook on the boards edges and pull the character back on like ZSS Plasma Whip. My guess on the Final Smash in a stampede of characters Animal Crossing townfolks with their own tools kinda and attack the other players like Pit's Final Smash.
