I've been asking around, and the only solid answer from where 'Ron' came from was famous actor Ron Howard. I see this as very plausible, considering that his Japanese self was also named after a famous actor.

His name is clearly from Ron Weasley, as his hair is also red. I see this as very plausible.

Ron Howard isn't a bad theory. A reference to his Richie-Cunningham-like Goody-goody-ness.

If they wanted to name him as a reference to his hair, they'd have named him "Leia." :yuusaku:

Still, weird that they gave him such a simple name...guess it was to really make us think he was insignificant :matt:

I dont see why it would be a reference to Ron Weasly. The Ron Howard theory makes sense, but I personally think that they just decided to give him an insignificant name to match the diffidence of his character.

The porn star idea makes the most sense of all...they would make a great duo.

Edit: Btw, scurrying through the fanbook scans, and here's what Ron Mask*DeMasque COULD have been: http://www.court-records.net/arts/gs3_29.jpg

Besides the 'tache, he was almost called RATKID! With Mickey Mouse Hair/Ears to boot :gant: :gant:

Edit2: Cancelled out 'Ron' on top, cos here's his true concept art: http://www.court-records.net/arts/gs3_30.jpg

Scary how even MORE girly he could have looked @____@ To the point he looked way too young to marry anyway...but I actually like his concept to the left corner ^^ It looks like they wanted to give him some 'normal' clothes outside of his Mask costume, and that at least, he rode bikes like Dessie... (as it is, that is conceivably how I think if Dessie and Ron had a son would turn out).

Upon reflection, that seems to make more sense then many of the other theories. Juan has already been taken (and wouldnt really fit with the character...ron is much younger sounding) and Ront isnt a real name.

Also, if they were going for the Ron Weasley thing then it would make more sense to name him Rupert Delite (...eww) because that would reflect his japanese namesake, which is apparently based on a famous actors name.

They would never name one character after another simply because of their hair color being the same. Theres nothing clever in that at all, and the connection would be so random that I dont see why they would find it in the first place.
Maybe, it could be a reflection of Ron being somewhat inferior in the Harry/Ron/Hermione group, kindof similar to
Spoiler: Case 3-2
Ron Delite being the "weak link" of the Luke/Ron/Dessie group
But even thats a stretch. A very large stretch. And I dont think that the spoiler tag was necessary at all. Oh well.

I don't even get this...

I still think that in order to make him seem more insignficant, they gave him a completely nondescript name (except for his last name) to make us dismiss him even more.

If they REALLY wanted to make some connections, I'm surprised there isn't a single Lupin or Arsene in anyone's names...or would that be TOO obvious?

I read somewhere that someone thought "Ron DeLite" was "Run the [red] light."
It's a good thing they didn't give him an androgynous name, otherwise EVERYONE would have thought he was a girl.

For the record, Ron can be pretty easily used for a girl (as a nickname). Even Desiree calls him 'Ronnie'.

Btw, I'm trying to figure out if they gave Aiga the name of 'Luke' cos of Ron's Leia-hair or not...

Hm - is that a specifically British joke then? There are quite a few Britisms in the translated versions which has led me to wonder about the makeup of the localisation teams.

I honestly wouldn't know. Heck, I STILL don't know exactly what product it is (I'm guessing it's similar to Ribena? We have THAT here).

Not sure about the localizations; since it seems Capcom UK is more active in promoting PW than Capcom US, I guess it's all them when it comes to the localization.

Spoiler: What's with the Canadian here?
Concerns PW3-5. What's with the blonde judge? When the first 'aboot' came out, I thought it was a typo. Then he said 'eh'. And although the rest of his speech was perfectly normal, anytime he happens to say 'aboot', he would say 'eh'. What was the point of adding the Canadaism if they used it so sparingly to the point I thought it was typos!?

Yeah but our translations don't seem to differ from the US and they're still scattered with Britisms.

Actually, that makes a lot of sense, since Dez is a motorcycle head. I know how testing that is to one's life since my uncle died in a motorcycle accident.

After I watched the epilogue, all things considered I can imagine Dessie having to grab Ron and running away on her motorcycle, either from the law or criminals XD

I always expected Ron to be given a girl's name, like Courtney. Ron just doesn't make him sound important enough.

I would laugh if they had a kid and named him Sonny. Who drinks a lot of Sunny Delight.

Heh, that's adorable X3

Although personally I think a son would be better, mostly because I saw one of Ron's previous concept designs and he looked decidedly manlier (but not by much, has very girly lips for one). He wore a pair of goggles like Dessie and had thicker and more guy-ish hair. I kind of think if they had a son and he grew up, he'd look something like that. X3
