Well... I figured with The Subspace emissary you could choose a character... that could be true... or you play the story as the characters given to you, you may get to choose to play as a few characters though...
I wonder if that's how they will do it...

Ridley might as well be confirmed too. Cuz, hes definately in. Its obvious Sakurai is goin for the trifecta of each major gaming franchise in the series. So, Ganandorf confirmed. Falco and Wolf confirmed. Black Knight Confirmed.

And about Master Chief:
All of the third party characters have appeared in a Nintendo console so far, don't get your hopes up for him, unless Microsoft or Bungie plans to add something (other than Master Chief) to brawl, such as more internet access... or somethin' like that, don't expect him...

Okay this three, lets look at it.
Mario, Peach, and Bowser = Confirmed
Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf = Plausable but problem
Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede = Confirmed
Pikachu, PT, and Mewtwo = Plausable but problem
Fox, Falco, Krystal = Plausable
DK, Diddy, and K Rool = Plausable
Ok, I think the three Zelda characters are basically confirmed, but wait, what about Shiek? If she's still a transformation I guess that works, but if she is seperate thats four characters, and that doesn't work. How about pokemon, Jigglypuff will be in, and if Mewtwo returns thats 4, kills the theory right there. Also if they add Lucario (LOL no) thats 5 canidates and also screws over the theory.
Next, lets look at other series in Brawl. Fire Emblem is a huge series, who would its triangle be? Ike, Marth, and Roy? NO, not Roy, Roy's not popular in Japan and most likly will be cut. Sigurd? Good chance actually and does with with the three theory.
Wario Ware is also pretty huge, so who could its three be? Wario is a duh, Ashley got a theme song, maybe its a hint to her being playable? I dunno. But what about the third? I can't really think of any big name WW characters who'd make good smash characters.
What about Metriod? Do we assume Samus and ZSS are two different people? Then I guess you could say Ridley makes it 3 (he scored high on the japanese poll and has boss music on the site). But wait, remember Zelda, for Shiek to be in the game and the three to work Zelda and Shiek can only count as one. So this also hurts the theory.
Personally I think that while 3 is a number to shoot at for the bigger series, I dunno if Sakurai is planning that, remember the infamous "Alphabetical order" rumor.

If we aren't going to have more than three, we can say good-bye to any chance of Lucario, Geno, Midna/Wolf Link, Mallow, Bowser Jr., Daisy, Blaziken, any other Kirby characters, and several other candidates from the Zelda, Mario, Pokémon, and Kirby series.
Besides, it's not like they HAVE to include 3 members from every series. Where are they going to get 3 good characters from Kid Icarus? Ice Climbers? Handheld Icon/Game & Watch? Yoshi's Island?
But if you're going to insist, I have a theory about the genres mentioned:
Star Fox - Fox, Wolf, and Krystal (OH WOW WOW YAAAAAAY!!).
Metroid - Samus, Ridley, Dark Samus
SMRPG - Geno, Mallow, Axem Rangers (if they can consider this a series... Yoshi is his own).

About Krystal... YAY! I love Krystal! That's the best non-confirmed information I've heard.
The trouble with liking Krystal is when you say you like her, you get one of two reactions:
1.) Really? I like/don't like her myself!
