By this I mean games you like that many seem to look down on. You get the picture right? Good!

Mine are~:

1. Final Fantasy XII: This may not count as it's one of those games you hate or love. I happen to adore it unlike all my friends. It's so amazingly and beautifully made. If only it wasn't so darn hard...

2. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: This game is amazing! The use of the GBA controllers was a stupid move by Square-Enix, I admit, but the game's graphical genius, enjoyable events and brilliant battle-system makes it stand from the crowd.

3. Final Fantasy X-2: Yeah, I'm going to town on FF, but I actually really enjoy this game. I admit I had to get the guide to make it playable but once I did I enjoyed it from start to finish. It's a cute, charming little adventure. =D

4. Zelda: Majora's Mask: Perhaps this is arguable but I've encountered too many people who shun this game; sometimes merely for being worse than OOT. It's an amazing, yet sinister little quest where the pressure is on! And because of the different masks this game has the best and most rewarding side-quests in a video game ever, methinks. I'm constantly in arguments in school about this game, with everyone against me. ;_;

5. Tales of Phantasia: Despite the hoards of random encounters this is, like most Tales games, a game with charming characters, interesting cutscenes and an involving battling system. I do feel somewhat bad for including this, because it's probably just that I'm a whore for the Tales of series...

6. Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones: I honestly do not understand why this is thought of a lesser version of the 1st (or if you're Japanese, 7th) game! All the new things it brought worked brilliantly, and you could even continue once you beat the main quest. The characters and story weren't as good as in the first, I understand, but the gameplay was top-notch. And let's not forget the soundtrack people. =D

7. Baten Kaitos: Before you say "BUT THE VOICE ACTING SUCKS!" let me tell you that you can actually take the voices OFF in game. I've never been one to brag but the card-battling system clicks so well with me and whenever I replay the game I find myself enjoying it more than I expect. Kalas was cool, most of the other characters weren't but the plot and graphics made this game one of my favorites.

8. Riviera: the Promised Land: It has quite a fanbase but many people look down upon this game for the gameplay style. It works quite well, in my opinion, and re-assures me that I won't miss anything major. The characters were oh so amazing. Being able to choose your love interest was quite hentai-esque but I still enjoyed it. Ein looks like me...

The Halo thread begs to differ.

At the top of my list is Sprung for the Nintendo DS. Very original, very snappy writing, but the GBA version of Phoenix Wright had already blown it out of the water by then...

Wait, is this "games you like that were commercial failures" or "games you like that most people don't really like"?

Sonic Heroes. Yeah, not a typo. I know the story is bad. But it's fun to play. Especially on PC. That version has better graphics and sound.

Mischief Makers for the Nintendo 64 certainly comes to mind. The most common complaints I hear about it is that the characters are lacking personality, the stereotypical/boring story and the fact it uses SNES like sprites on a 64 bit system.

I must admit the story isn't the greatest but I'm not here just for the story. If I just wanted a good story, I would read a book. And the graphics issue? Hello, this game is from the early life of the Nintendo 64, gimme a break! The real juices in this game came from the unique gameplay and interesting boss battles. Just the basic controls are different but fun since the weapons you really have are your grabby hands compared to most game which have several swords/guns/power-up/whateverr. And the puzzles help brake up the platforming and fighting sections of the game.

Seriously, If more people actually gave it a chance, they would like it.

Legend Of The Mystical Ninja. I loved it for the N64. The tunes were awesome! Especially one after you exit the town you meet Yai at. The transformers thing was cool too.

Killer7, FFVIII, Halo (lol internet opinions).

On the flip side, I hate (hate) Tales of Phantasia. I thought the voice acting was shitty, the characters lacked personality, the graphics were unappealing and the combat system was shitty.

I doubt I could. Like I said it might just be that I'm a Tales of lover, the voice acting sucked I admit but the storyline beats a lot of modern RPGs and I don't know what you were smoking when you said the characters lacked personality. Right now I'm refering to the GBA version so I can say that the graphics were pretty good. The way I got through the millions of battles was knowing a new, gripping cutscene was waiting.

GBA? There was a GBA version? [EDIT: I figured out why there might be confusion- I meant Tales of Symphonia, not Phantasia. Maybe my argument will make more sense knowing this?]

I don't know. I thought the kids were all very boring personality-wise, and, being kids, were very "let's save the world yeah!". As for the cutscene thing you mentioned- meh. I bought it thinking that it had more interesting anime cutscenes, and I barely ever saw one. The storyline probably got better the farther you got, but I'm assuming I didn't get very far (I got to the part where you get locked up and then have to escape). And I didn't say the graphics were bad, I just thought the style was unappealing- as a fan of more mature, non-chibi designs, I didn't like the way the characters looked very much.

Golden Sun and Final Fantasy 9 are my fevourite RPGs of all, I fell in love with them, yet still people don't talk about them.

Also, Wind Waker was one of the best Zelda games, it was the biggest of all, it was so much fun sailing around and expoliring... and there was A LOT to explore. Anyway, I think all of the Zelda games are great, so I won't list them all (MM and MC and TP are far underrated, too).

I liked FFCC also, the music was awesome, the world was great, too. My only complaint, but big complaint is that they f*cked up multiplayed with that damn GBA thing.

Luigi's Mansion and Super Mario Sunshine are also very underrated, but I don't see why people don't like them. They are mongs my favourite Mario games.

Sword of Mana is also forgotten, dunno why, the story, the music, the graphics and the characters were all great.

Final Fantasy 5 is also very overlooked, although it's way better than FF7 imo (well, pretty much all FFs are better than 7 :)

Then, there is Super Mario Bros. 2. Yeah, not origially a Mario game, but it was good.

Starfox Adventures, Pikmin 1-2, Another Code a.k.a Trace Memory, even Phoenix Wright!

God, there are so many, I don't think I'll list all of them :)

Tales of the Abyss has more "mature" character... polyhedrons...

But even Tales of Symphonia's designs weren't chibi...

Along with that, there were two kids, and one of them is 28. :E Unless you mean anything under 18 as a kid, then there were four, but then again, I'd be a kid too. :P

And TotA has about 7 anime cutscenes (although one is really bad >_>) and 8 CGI cutscenes...

And you got to when you're locked up?! WTF! That's about 2 hours into the game.

...

That said, I guess games I like that people don't are Tales of Symphonia and Abyss, and Legendia, to a lesser extent... >_>

I know a lot of people that like Phantasia for "ARCHE FUCKS LIKE A TIGER," and "MMMMMMMMM CLESS THAT FEELS SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!!!!!" and say that they don't like the others because of "anime art style"... >_> I mean, not only did ToP have an anime art style, but those lines...

Golden Sun is NOT shunned. Most who play it have nothing but praise for it.

And yeah, Gozu... you ACTUALLY meant my favorite game ever!? ToS is brilliant! I understand it may not be your cup of tea but man! It starts a little slow I admit but it soon becomes non-stop enjoyment! ...I need to take a nap.

GAWD. EBA.

Everyone seems to hate it because it's a rythem game that isn't DDR or Guitar Heros.

I personally love it, and I am addicted to it's goodness. I mean, even Nintendo Power recevied hate mail because they loved EBA so much. I'm really sad for everyone out there who missing out because they just look at the cover and brushed it off. Great game :D

Games that I love that are shunned would have to be.

Earthbound- I love this game it has humor, good battle system, just about everything I'd want to see in an RPG

Luigi's Mansion- I don't see what was so bad about this game the storymine was good, I loved the collecting money and jewel concept, I don't see a problem with it.

Super Mario sunshine- This game was great! Loved the colors difficulty, lengthiness, and the levels, Great game.

FF 9- I honestly loved this game the only real problem I have is that I can never level up at the speed I like, I train my guys like crap and I was only on level 20 because the level up system was a bit slow. Other than that it was a great game in my eyes.

Thats my list

Two hours? It felt more like ten when I was playing it, but maybe I was bad at it. With regards to the "kids"- yeah, I meant that anything under 18 was a kid. They certainly didn't act like teenagers, either; twelve year olds would be more like it. And maybe not chibi, but they were definitely squat and non-realistic (which may be appealing in and of itself to some people, but not me). I may very well give the game another try at some point, but as it is right now I thoroughly dislike it.

I have to agree with Final Fantasy X-2. It was an entertaining game, and that's what counts. And even if I agree with the critics of Final Fantasy XII, I still found it to be an enjoyable game.

Another game series that has been criticised heavily for being a simple button-masher game is Drakengard (or Drag-on Dragoon) 1 & 2. I simply do not understand this. Sure, it is a button masher, but it's a fun button masher. It's actually enjoyable and exciting to kill so many enemy soldiers that fight back individually - some better than others. It gives a good impression that you are super-powerful, but not invincible. It also requires skill in dodging and - in Drakengard 2 - controlling jumping effectively. There were problems with the draw-length in Drakengard 2, and it's true that the air-missions were usually rather short and pointless (even if riding a dragon is heck awesome, it was more awesome to hop on the dragon and slaugher thousands of individual soldiers who has no means of fighting back this time arround - other than archers), but overall it was entertaining, didn't make me feel fategued, was challanging enough in itself, etc. I also really love the music in both games - even if they're completely diffrent. Old Tombstone from Drakengard 2 is one of my all-time favorite songs, ever. And let's not forget the extremely EXTREMELY nice storyline of both games. It's pure art. The only real thing I didn't like about it was that the 2nd wasn't as mindblowing, and I really didn't like the ending of the it. But the first...! I mean, WOW. I can't think of a video game storyline that rivals it.

Oh, and let's not forget Mega Man 4, that I think is one of the, if not the, best game in the entire Mega Man series. The arguments that it's just another Mega Man game, and it's boring and not nearly as good as the previous in the series, is bullshit. Sure, it's another Mega Man game! What did you expect?! But Mega Man 4 changed so many things in the series to boot - the charged shot, the more depthed storyline, the crushing-roof levels (especially Mega Man X6's Metal Shark Prayer), the boss hidding outside the area (drill man), the comic relief boss (and this is important! I mean, you need to be able to easily beat SOME boss with the Mega buster alone, else the game would be too frickin' hard. THANK GOD for bosses such as Tornado Tonion! And don't say that Cut Man and Wood Man are comic relief, because they, even if being easy enough, wern't exactly drop-down easy), branched levels (only one of the first 5 NES games), the introduction of a per-game apperent mastermind, a scrolling level, the LACK of the yellow demon (probably the worst boss made - I mean, the time you have to dodge those plops of goo takes so frickin' long compared to the time you have to actually shoot it), and last but not least... the only female human character prior to Mega Man Zero XD The game has probably the most changes to the formula of the orignal 5 sequels. Also, Mega Man 4 has the, IMO, best music (only rivaled by Mega Man 5's), best stages (only rivaled by Mega Man 3's and Mega Man 5's - damn, Mega Man 2's levels are just bland!), best robot master designs (completely unrivaled, at least among the original), and best storyline and story telling (by far). It is also emensely entertaining.

I could perhaps also name Doom 3? I rather enjoyed it, although not as good as Half-Life 2, it was a clever game and I felt that it tried to do justice to the original. I really like the PDA system they used, and the computer interface system was a work of art. Also Super Turbo Turkey Puncher 3 and the martian-buddy website were ingenious. I lol'ed at how they made fun of capcom with the arcade games in Doom 3 and it's add-on.

Final Fight Streetwise - It screwed with a beat-'em-up that hadn't received an update since the '90s, and had the gall to be US-made. THIS is what tanked this game. Granted, it's not perfect, but it's far less atrocious than many have made it seem.

I guess Star Fox Assault is one of those games people hate but I love...

GAWD.

Actually, everybody and their dead grandma loves EBA. It's fairly mainstream at this point.

True to an extent. It has become mainstream... I guess I don't keep with the times.

But if we're talking local, a shunned game I love is Phoenix Wright. Kind of obvious, but all the fangirls at our school (about 7) have made quite a few people detest PW. Kind of sad, I think. We should force them to play. DEFINITELY not shunned on the world-level though. But I wish those people were more open. And that they would sell AA at game stores DX
