To me, Dahlia was one of the most compelling characters in all of the Ace Attorney series. Does anybody else think so?

I sat up late, as one of them completed Case 4 not 2 days ago.
...She cried. Testimony enough to me that T&T has a truly powerful running plotline, and a truly excellant narrative to ensure it's put across well.
Whilst the other friend playing it works her way through case 3 even now, me and my Case 5 bound friend have agreed that the friend playing case 3, who has the deepest hatred of Dahlia given that she's a Phoenix fangirl, is going to literally be frothing at the mouth after the events of Turnabout beginnings.
Tonight, me and the Friend playing case 5 finish off her game alongside each other on MSN. She doesn't know the final twists, and I won't tell her...it's going to be the most emotional game she's ever played, and she's admitted that more times than I can count.
I commend the writers for Dahlia...what could easily have been a terribly constructed 2D Cutout villain has actually turned into the Flesh-and-blood daughter of Satan herself.
But nevertheless...she's going down once more tonight. And I look forward to that.

Psssst... read the Justice for All book. XD It shows Gumshoe throwing confetti. I know that may not be where it comes from... but it's still humorous to read.
As for Dahlia, I hate her. =\ She wears that sickly sweet smile, even when she is in the deepest of trouble, just to keep everyone wrapped around that finger of hers.

I love Dahlia. However, I love her simply because she is one of the few villains out there that it is possible to hate. Shes quite masterfully written...sure, compared to some PW villains her disuise seems pretty thinly veiled, but in real life I dont seriously think many perople would see through her. She is so evil not because she sacrifices others for personal gain, but to escape from justice. Her behavorial patterns repeatedly show her setting up someone dear to her for the fall. Some bad guys directly engage the hero while killing the nameless masses...with her, you see firsthand her manipulating people who trust, love, or pity her.

Freedom. Love. She wanted to get away from her family, that splintered home life where she was forced to live with an alien mother and an uncaring, selfish father*. It's extremely doubtful she would have been a productive, law-abiding citizen if she did get what she wanted, but it's a very human need she acted upon to begin with.
I don't for a second forgive any of these characters for their crimes, their crimes were conscious decisions made by mature individuals who knew what they were getting into, and they should pay the price like anyone else. It's just that, in my eyes, Dahlia is the only one who lived the way she did out of necessity, rather than temptation.

It's actually part of why Dahlia and Iris are such an interesting pair, since even after all that about her upbringing, and despite the ZOMG demon11!!! portrayal we get through the rest of the game, Dahlia does, in a twisted, stunted sort of way show compassion for Iris, not killing her when she's at her mercy, and providing a "confession" that works to find her not guilty of murder. (though never admitting this, obviously) Oh, and I think you mean step-sister, in reference to Valerie.
Why is it that no one remembers how nasty Valerie was anyway?

I agree with several of the prior posters... Dahlia's crimes are unique in that they spread not from a thirst for power, but from a desire for freedom, desperation, ultimately revenge on Mia Fey. Shes very spiteful and cruel person, but she is much more human then...oh, say, Matt or Gant. They are evil, yes, but they both are in positions of authority where they can manipulate others to get around that. Dahlia is very much your everyday, run-of-the-mill killer who dosent have the money or the influence to hide her crimes...in fact, she even pushes away from herself those closest to her if she dosent trust them. In many cases, she operates complete solo, as opposed to the aforementioned along who have Lana and de Killer.
I wont deny, I was hoping to see a comeback of the butterflies in 3-5, and I didnt like her final breakdown. But such is life, I suppose.
