what do you call the role of the person with you in court?

Is there a word for the "assistant" who's usually with you in court? Over the first three games 5 characters have filled that position: Mia, Maya, Maggey, Grossberg, and Diego. What is that role called?

They are usually called the Defense Aide as far as I can remember.

Well, they don't really play too much of an important role most of the time if you think about it. They just tell you there's a contradiction and to press harder (which you already know). It's only on the rare occasion they are helpful.

True, but I still like having them there. I also wonder what it takes to be allowed to sit there. Obviously another lawyer could do it, but Maggey was just a regular cop. And although Maya works for Phoenix, she's not a lawyer, although Phoenix introduces them both as lawyers.

Pearl goes there too... as does the defendant in 2-1... I'm pretty sure it's just whoever the defense wants to be there. Kinda disappointing that the prosecution never does anything like that.

I believe the term is "side-bar" but I'm not sure why.

The latter is Maggey, who I already mentioned. And no, Pearl never goes there, she's probably too young. The only time she goes there is after she's channeled Mia, in which case she isn't really there anyway.

The others who've been in that position (except Maggey) are lawyers already anyway...and since Maya works for Phoenix and gets to sit there, would that make her a paralegal?
