Because I suck, I'm not aware of a topic discussing this before or any mid-topic conversation of this happening before so please redirect me if possible.

Is it me or did this game have a theme going for it?

I noticed throughout the game that names seemed to play a key role in the all the cases.

In 2-1 the spelling of Maggey's name is important.

In 2-2 the whole Ini/Mimi thing is is important.

In 2-3....Well ok I guess Billy Bob Johns or Lawrence Curls aren't as related to the case's plot as the others but work with me here.

In 2-4 the fact that Adrian could be mistaken for a male's name was important.

Was this intentional or am I just thinking too hard?

I suppose a wider case for "duality" (or "nothing/no-one is as it seems") as a theme could be made, but not sure if you could argue it's just related to the names or indeed just to JFA - it seems to be a broader issue across JFA and T&T (and to a lesser extent AA). I think the reasons become obvious as you play on to the end of the third game.

No, I don't think you're thinking too hard - PW is a very densely written game with many layers and it's entirely valid to advance a theory on it if you can offer evidence.

That's a really good point.

Nor have I even thought about that at all either.

Though I feel bad because I have nothing else to add but to say kudos to your thinking.

I only think about this sort of stuff because of Von Karma-like training from certain teachers which leads me to analyse the bloody fuck out of everything.

I love it when other people start these threads and I realise I Am Not Alone.

The theme I saw in this game was identity...the main identity theme being about Phoenix...who he is, what he stands for, what it really is to be a Defense Attorney

but within the cases

2-1: Lost identity, Nick forgets who he is
2-2: "Stolen" Identity, the Ini/Mimi arc, Maya questioning whether or not she really did do it, because her identity was "stolen" during the channeling
2-3: False Identity, Berry dressing up as Max to sneak out, Ben mistaking Berry as Max, Moe thinking the Bust was Max
2-4: Mistaken Identity, De Killer mistaking Adrian as a man, as well as Juan using the Nickel Samurai's identity to take him down, Adrian dressing up as the Nickel to frame Matt and fool Oldbag/Lotta

Then how Edgeworth figured out who he is as well as trying to make von Karma who she should be...and von Karma trying to come to terms of who she is, etc.

I'd say you could argue that for every single case in the AA series. It's really the definition of a mystery, with the key to whether it's a good mystery or not is how you learn the truth.
