A thread dedicated to and ONLY Final Fantasy VIII.

That means if you want to talk about how glorious FFVI or VII is (or anything others), than stay out! Go make a separate thread.

It wasn't as bad as VII, that's about as much praise as I'm willing to give, the Junction system was ridiculously broken, the characters were quite shit... yeah. :/

Pfff you guys have no taste. :yogi:
FFVIII is my favorite Final Fantasy but I think Concerned Citizen is the only one who agrees with me here. But yeah, I'm used to everyone saying it sucks. :yuusaku:

LOVED FF VIII! It's one of my favourite FF games aside from VII. :) I found the characters were interesting-even though you spend the first little bit wanting to choke some of them-the story was top notch (in my opinion)and full of twists and turns. I really enjoyed the quests, Chocobo Forests and the CC Card Quest. :) I also found Triple Triad to be an extremely addicting game. :)

I loved the GF's as well!!! :) Eden was my top favourite-followed closely by Doomtrain, Bahamut, The Brothers, Tonberry King, Odin and Leviathan-and the most powerful GF in the game! I didn't like Gilgamesh very much, though; I found him to be, at best, a lesser form than Odin was-at least Odin's attacks didn't miss nearly 8 times out of ten like Gilgamesh's did which I found very irritating-and, at worst he was completely useless) and, while the junctioning system was a bit confusing at first, the more I mucked about with it, the more I figured it out. :)

Anyone have any favourite GF's?

The game itself was alright but I really didnt like ( an understatement) any of the characters.

I liked Siefer, too bad he wasnt in the party.
Re: Final Fantasy VIIITopic%20Title

Slifer the Sky Dragon was always my favourite of the Egyptian God cards, you just team that fucker up with infinite cards and whoa shit, nothing can take that down.

I only enjoyed FFVIII for the Triple Triad System. I never bothered beating the game. Once I got all the cards, I just let my friend borrow the game and beat it. I watched him beat Ultimecia, then I went home.

FFVIII was incredible. The storyline, as contrived as it was, was quite excellent; and the music was really well done as well. The character design could have been better (lol emo squall), but I can't really see the game working without the charcters being the way that they were. It's always been my favorite Final Fantasy. Granted, the Junction/draw system was borked and the GFs were tremendously overpowerful, but it was a good game.

Of course, I'm sure my eyes are clouded by nostalgia, but it was good nonetheless.

@Holy Hell - no, good game. :)

FF VIII is awesome. Mainly because it's not so **** screwy like VII. Being stuck in a single room for several years, than having the game destroy your save file later... No thanks!

Then again, I tend to like or dislike different entries in series than most. Loved Mega Man 6. Which for those of you in some countries can attest, has never officially been released in any PAL region, in any form, to this day.

I liked it. I just didn't like the personality change in Squall. (What you're getting softy on me!? WTF!?) Lesse my favorite GF... Tonberry! XD I should've gotten Lionheart before I beat the game -_- (Heard the sword owns more than Bill Gates's estate)

I appreciated the change since I continuously wanted to put him into the wall before that! :moe-laugh: For myself, I didn't see the changes as Squall going 'soft,' as it were, but growing up and finally allowing himself to love instead of shutting himself away behind a brick wall (figuratively speaking) to protect himself from being hurt. Another thing he learned was to trust other people and to lean on them when he needed to..and learned to accept. He had friends and they were there for him; all he needed to do was ask for their help and they were there. :) It's a very tough thing to learn to trust and open yourself up to others when you've cut yourself off from them since you were a child and you're used to depending on yourself.

Lionheart rocks the galaxy and is one hell of an INCREDIBLE weapon! Not to mention one AWESOME limit break! :edgy:

I guess I'm not the only one who loved FF8 after all.

I wasn't a HUGE fan of the Junction System, but I loved the Guardian Forces. Not the fact that you could abuse them to utter HELL, but they were a nice touch.

I also loved the characters themselves, but god damn, couldn't've they done a better job with the graphics!? At least they're better than seven, but COME ON!!

I actually really loved this game. I mean I liked VII but it just got to much hype for me since kingdom hearts and the stupid movie which made it die for me. But if memory serves me correctly VIII was my first owned Final Fantasy game ever. I agree I didnt like the whole junction system but I really liked the story and music it brought out. Hell now I want to go back and play it.

FF8 was challenging and I liked Zell as a character! It took me a while to beat it....D:

I loved listening to the music!! And I got al embarresed at teh lovey doves parts....Eheh....

And Squall's limit break totally pwns anyone! I glare it it everytime I use it! The story was good and gameplay was good also. I don't care much about the Juntion system too much.

Final Fantasy VIII had the worst battle system ever. Sitting there drawing 99 of every magic gets boring real quick, and once you get Aura, using limit breaks over and over get boring quick too. Oh, I simply love watching Squall perform Lionheart on Omega Weapon for the 60th time!

Considering I was seven when I finished Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, I'd say that's not the best excuse. :/

But since we're talking about RPGs, I'll find a better example...

Oh, Fallout... I finished that when I was 8ish.

I'm not going to lie and say that it's the best thing I've ever played, but it's certainly responsible for getting me out of kid-game land and into grown-up-game land.

I pull it out and play through it once every six months or so. I don't think it'll ever fall out of favor with me.

Nope... Squaresoft decided it'd be a fun idea to put in a monster that you can never kill, no matter how hard you may grind.
