Final point:[spoiler=3-5 ending]Yes, he was covicted. He KILLED someone! And also stated that he might've just wanted to kill the person for revenge, and that alone, at the end of the case. Finally, from a metaphorical standpoint, he said he was drinking his last cup, which I ASSUME means that he's tasting his last bit of freedom... and if not, I really rule at metaphors! lol. Either way, one more thing to think about:
