Yes. It wasn't THAT bad, it just didn't meet its expectations...which were too high for its good.

Some games are so good in my mind, they should never be made into live-action movies because of the possible suck. Like Ace Attorney. I have faith in the MGS movie since Kojima IS a cinemaphile and will probably have a good amount of involvement.

P.S. Halo movie will rock(download Halo:Landfall on XBLMarket. 'Tis by the director of said film.)

P.P.S. Movies I want to see just because they would be epic:
EBA
Katamari Damacy
Super Smash Bros
Hotel Dusk

I'm suprised NOONE thought of making a Contra movie. It's about two buff guys who use Guns to shoot Aliens. It's not that hard of a plot idea compared to the other game movies. (Although thank God they didn't or one of my favorite franchises might lose a TON of money.)

Ugh, I first watched the live action Street Fighter movie a few months back. That damn near traumatized me. Everything was just wrong. I mean, Rayu? Fucking Rayu?

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, on the other hand, is fucking awesome. It had some amazing animation during the fights, and Ryu & Ken vs. Vega was epic, to say the least.

Another good animated one is Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture. Doesn't strictly follow the story of the games, but creates its own side-story to involve the characters in, all while showcasing their ass-kickiest of moves.

I actually didn't have too much of a problem with the first Resident Evil movie. I pretty much accepted that this was a sidestory, or perhaps even a completely alternate canon. Didn't like the second quite as much, but still no major complaints. The third, however, was complete and absolute shit.

Silent Hill was okay with me, too. I felt they did a pretty good job of capturing the atmosphere, and let's face it:
Spoiler:
That part at the end with the barbed-wire tentacles was sweet.
My only problem is that they felt they had to divulge the town's past with a big block of exposition from Alessa. Ouch.

Did anyone here ever play Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory? In the bonus material, there's a not very revealing movie trailer for a Splinter Cell movie that was supposed to be made by Paramount... I haven't heard anything. (But then again, I haven't stopped and looked for myself what was going on with that.) Let me tell you something: If that were to be made a film, I'm certain it would be good.

I think that square pictures could have done some great movies. The Spirits Within was a good movie, but it was kind of boring. They could have made movies of of games like Kingdom Hearts that had nothing to do with the main plot.

Hmm...I've seen almost all the videogame based movies mentioned. And yes, I do have to say that some of them were so bad that they were hilarious. Especially the Mario movie and the live-action Street Fighter movie [This coming from an avid SF fan.] Then there were ones that blew me away. Case in point: the first Tomb Raider movie, the first Resident Evil movie, and Advent Children.

But you know what games I'd like them to make a movie of [other than the Ace Attorney series, whose movie would actually be an awesome idea hopefully...]? King of Fighters--Preferrably around the end of the Chronicles of NESTS arc and beginning of the Tales of Ash arc. Gunstar Heroes -- Aw hell that game has everything a movie would need except romance. Especially cheesy special effects, lots of explosions, and DEAR LORD a lot of scenes that would be made hilarious with some dialogue.

Yeah. I know. That's just my opinion. Do with it what you will.

They sorta did.... un intentionally of course. They split the two characters into two seperate roles/movies/plots. :sal:

Here's my proof! :takethat:

Nah, I'm just kidding. Neither of the two movies really have much in common with contra with the exception of Arnold and Stallone. THAT would be badass though if they made the contra movie like the "poster" in that link. :godot: Although I will admit the similarity between the cover art of the original contra game, and the "Edits" that person made are scarily accurate.

Hmmm.....let's see... I enjoyed all three FF movies at least somewhat, along with RE2...they were fun to watch, even though they had very little to do with the subject matter from which they were derived. RE3 I watched 45 minutes and walked out because I hated it that much.
Silent Hill I loved while I was watching it, because the sound, sets, and everything visual was done wonderfully...but in regards of everything else it was cowplops, and that definitely hit me when I left. :/ I just can't believe what a stupid movie it was.

Eep, sorry, it's actually an OVA. I always consider it a movie in my head 'cause it's the same lenght, just on more than one tape to draaag more money of your pocket.

I'm trying to appeal ti my parents for letting me watch Final Fantasy. But I think if they put Phoenix Wright or Hotel Dusk/Trace Memory. All of them together would be better than FF.

waoao how did I miss this thread

Super Mario Bros. is hilarious.

Tomb Raider, when I saw it, wasn't so bad, but I think I was more focused on Angelina showering than making sense of the plot. Still, I'd say it's one of the better adaptations.

Silent Hill is good for one thing: it stays more true to the source material than any other film in this category. Seriously, it's one huge fangirl masturbation fantasy. Other than the visuals and atmosphere though, it's terrible.

FF7AC I don't think belongs in this discussion because it's not /based/ on a video game - it /might as well be/ a video game. But its merits as a film are, uh, nonexistent. Once again, masturbation.

Spirits Within I never saw, but the general consensus seems to be "mediocre SF that shouldn't bear the FF title".

Fuck Doom.

I've never seen any of the Resident Evil movies, or House of the Dead, so I can't speak on that, but my general thoughts are that it's pretty damn hard to mess up zombies so the bad reviews must be due to failed jack-off potential (whether the fans felt it failed, or the director/scriptwriter tried too hard to put so many references in that it became abysmal).

Only Street Fighter movie I've seen is the Alpha animated movie, which is pretty amazing. It made me want to enter a hot dog speed eating competition.

Mortal Kombat is great and hilarious.

The game I think would benefit most from movie-dizing is probably Suikoden, or Xenogears, or any number of JRPGs that people seem to constantly pop boners over. There's no use in having an "epic storyline" if I have to slog through dozens of hours of uninspired, insipid gameplay. Shuck that jive.

Suikoden sucks, but Lucas Blight's death scene in the second game was cool. Xenogears, on the other hand, is pretty awesome and I liked the battle system.

I suppose the movie was alright, but it was supposed to be based around the Final Fantasy franchise, which meant it had to meet some pretty high expectations from the fans.

The SF movie is, at the very least, tolerable to sit through. Yeah, it screws up the basic storyline, but if you look past that, it's actually a semi-decent action movie that'll help you pass the time.
I never got around to watching the SMB movie after torturing myself by reading the novel. If it hurt just picturing the details in your head, how'd you think it'd look on-screen.
Oh, well; at least it was accurate to the movie;P.
As for the RE movies, I gave up after Apocalypse. They've all but completely destroyed the storyline...all for the sake of appeasing the fanbase by using characters from the game and trying to squeeze their own story into the mix. Why couldn't anyone accept the first movie as a side-story and stop complaining?!
Canon or not, they should try to stick a little more closely to the source material.
I'm not going to comment on any of the animated movies, but I will say this:
The Fatal Fury movie was a sequel of sorts for the two OVAs for the same series.
While it tends to stray from the "official" storyline (Krauser commiting suicide; he is still very alive in the games), it does offer its own personal twists to the SNK VS universe.
Spoiler: What About Geese?
Yeah, I know Geese has been playable in recent SNK games long after his actual (?) death in Fatal Fury 3 (I think). The events leading up to his death, as well as his many appearances since then (including his "Nightmare" form) has stumped many fans.
Is he a ghost? Immortal? A bonus character for video gamers?
No one knows for sure.
