Everywhere I go, I read the same thing. "This name sucks, the Japanese one was better." So why? Why does it seem like I am the only person that likes the English names (aside for Wocky, yuck. Though I wonder what Takita's full name is, though other than that...)

I thought the English names were well done to be honest. While none of them seem have the same meaning as the original Japanese names, I do think they are good. Doesn't anyone agree?

Hello? Anybody? Don't make me pull the cliched *chirp chirp* out :sadshoe:

There are only a few that I dislike. I've really grown to like Apollo, I like the Gavins and so on. The only names I don't like are Trucy (I was hoping for a cuter name for her...), Wocky (Neopet anyone?), and the Gavinners..... Gavinners just sounds weird for me, but I'm sure I'll get over that before I get over Wocky and Trucy.

Hm, I liked most of the names from the start. I took me a while to get used to Klavier's name. As for Wocky... well, I thought it would be more gangsta like Fitty or somthing. *shot*

As for the Gavinners, if they left it a 'Gavin Wave' it would have been perfectly fine.

The Gavinners is really the only name I don't prefer. I'm going to call it the Garyuu Wave all my life.

Others than that, I find them lovely. Even Trucy, which I love the most while others hate it. :/

Wocky and the Gavinneers sound strange. Maybe once we get the whole of Wocky's name we'll go "OH SO THAT'S WHERE IT COMES FROM!", but right now, it's bad. Gavinneers is just awful, though. Then again, I'd have probably gone with the obvious rock joke as the Klavier Gavin Experience.

Even if I dislike Justice, I have to say I love love love Apollo as his name... Klavier and Krstoph work well too. Wocky makes me giggle but in a good way... the only one I really dislike is Trucy. But not everyone in real life has nice names either so hey, who cares?

Which doesn't happen to be a Apollo Justice name at all XD

But on topic, I like all of the names we've heard so far. What with Wocky being silly and ironic, Apollo Justice only being slightly weirder than Phoenix Wright, and the other names fitting.

I dispise the names, really.

Let's see..:

Apollo Justice: Debatable. It doesn't hurt all THAT much... if it wasn't for the Justice-part. A weak name, though, and I feel that Capcom could have put some more effort into the naming. 2/5.
Kristoph Gavin: An okay name that I don't mind. Nothing special, but it's fine. No prob. 3/5.
Klavier Gavin: YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. Piano? WHY? Really, you can only appriciate his name if you can only speak english. 1/5.
Trucy: A cute name, in my opinion. I'm not sure how accurate it is to anything, but it's okay. Looks like a name too, unlike 'Justice' and 'Klavier'. 3/5.
Shadi Smith: Really... bland name. Of course, it's a victim, so.... 3/5.
Borscht Belt Restaurant: Why add Belt? Borscht was fine without it. It turns it from "cool name" to "bland restaurant chain name". 2/5.
People Park: Ehm.... no. Just... no. Why on earth call a park 'People Park'? Unless it's about communism? 2/5.
Wocky: OH GOD, WHAT DID I EVER DO TO YOU?! 1/5.
The Gavinners: I honestly can't think of a worse name to give the group - and there's only one "Gavin" to boot! 1/5.

Overall, 18/45, 40%. AA4 so far seems the worst excuse for naming in a capcom game since Squaresoft translated Breath of Fire.

Back on-topic: I've thought a lot about Wocky today. Weak localisation? Neh, I'm getting used to all of them. They got their charm.. I can't wait for the list of full names and to see them in game context. :)

As a fan of a 4Kids dubbed anime, getting used to bad names isn't too hard for me. :\

In this case, I don't think any of the names are horrible. APOLLO JUSTICE and Klavier are just plain cool. Although the Gavinners.... yeah, that sounds kind of dumb.

My dad already makes fun of me for playing a game about someone named "Phoenix Wright". He'll just have a field day with Apollo Justice. D;

Although I knew that and had deduced it myself, it still brings me the question of what the Minuku system is going to be called. 'Trucu system'? 'Truci system'? 'Truco (like a truck *shot*) system'?

They might keep it as Minuku actually-- They didn't bother localising the Magatama or Shichishito, either. I suppose because they meant to keep them exotic/Japanese-- weird that the Feys got localised, however.

Well what's better. "Klavier and The Gavinettes" or "The Gavinners"?

I've been a big advocate of how good and weill thought out the names are in the fourth game. Here's my rather ignored findings on the Gavin name from the "Interesting Name Translations" thread:

Interestingly enough, Gavin is a British name, not German: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin

And Gavin Rossdale plays the Guitar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_Rossdale

And Gavin DeGraw plays both the Guitar AND Piano: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_DeGraw

To quote our favorite Judge:
:judge: - "True, that is a possibility. However, two coincidences at the same time seems more like a 'pattern' to me."

And the dept doesn't end there, Gavin is said to be based off the name Gawain, King Arthur Pendragon's nephew, thus adding the "Garyuu could also mean Dragon's Fang" Parallel.

For some reason, I thought that the Minuku system would become the "True-Sight" system. Minuki, Minuku; Trucy (True-see), True-Sight. But I'm probably wrong on that one.

The only names I'm really pissed about are Wocky and Justice. Most of the names had a sort of "Oh god no!" response when I first heard them, but I've since grown attached to most of them. Apollo is fun, Trucy is cute, and Klavier is cool (fine he's named for a piano. I'm pretending I don't know that). Kristoph I liked from the beggining. It is just a geat name. The rest I really don't have an opinion on one way or another.

Japanese names sound better to us because most of us can't read Japanese at all, which means we can't see the horrible puns in those.

(Granted, there are some variations in cleverness, but that's for both sides)

Yes, but in the japanese language, those silly-punny-names... I get the feeling that they are treated more like actual names, which justifies them. Just because Ryu means Dragon doesn't mean Ryu isn't a name, but Dragon sure as heck isn't a name in western culture (Unless you go to Drake or something, but thats a rewording which doesn't really take place in this case). The closest thing you could get some name puns on would be to call them something others have been called in the past, with a speciality in that area (Manfred von - the Red Baron, Gavin - musician, etc...), or fit them into names that sound like names while still being punny (and it even meens that not all people get them. Surprisingly many didn't get Sahwit or Sal Manella at all, for some reason, but downright naming someone 'Justice' or 'Piano' really isn't the same thing).

I honestly think that it's definetly okay to have clever names, but stupid names is another thing. Trucy is okay, I think. So is the AA1 and AA3 puns (especially Luke Atmey). But there is a limit.

I've said earlier that Justice might be relieved because it's supposed to be strange, and is apparently even strange as a Japanese name, but Piano? No way, man.

Guess_Who: it got translated to Phoenix Wright. Of course. It's ment to be strenge. And it seems natural. I got used to Phoenix Wright simply because I didn't know of him before his name changed. Now, if I did, I might be a little mad at the change from "Dragon" to "Phoenix", but that would basically be it, yeah. I will accept Apollo Justice, but I don't think I will ever really like the name.

I liked Ron DeLite. I thought it was cute and fit him well.

If there were names in the original I *didn't* like (and I mean, to a point where it was unacceptable), I could perhaps note....

....

I had one... I think...

Oh well. Ehm.. yeah.

I seriously can't think of anyone I couldn't accept. Right now, I refuse to accept Piano and Wocky, as the first two in the AA universe so far.

Most of them seem terrible but I can live with them. Just not...people calling Apollo, "Mr. Justice". It sounds too much like a comic book hero; a BAD comic book hero; a BAD, CLICHE, STEREOTYPED hero.

Also, if they were trying to make Klavier german, at least call him Guitarre to match the instrument he plays (which is not a piano. >:( ) It's not a bad name, though.

I like the name "APOLLO JUSTICE: ACE ATTORNEY!" but when I try to tell my friends that his last name is JUSTICE, we end up laughing.

I like the English names, though.

But I wish they would have spelled it "Kristoff". It looks so much cooler that way.

I love 'em~. Sure, I had a little fanwank over the 'Justice' in Apollo Justice, but the name Apollo is sexy, so that makes up for it. Trucy, Kristoph, Klavier, Shadi are all made of love too. In fact, Wocky was one I really had to get used to, but at this point in time I just find it so unfittingly hilarious.
