And whoever suggested the Von Karma idea, (I am "OBJECTION") that's a PERFECT musical theater concept. I really like it.

Sound effects should be made with instruments.

For example, for the earthquake in 1-4, it would be crazy. Cymbals crashing everywhere, drums banging...one of the more dramatic, instrumental pieces.

Um, idea for the almost-guilty in 1-4:

*everyone is starting to get ready for a guilty. Phoenix is panicking, von Karma is doing..some sort of victory dance in a suitibly von karmic way, the Judge is holding up a guilty sign when:

:hold it:

The auditorium doors (or whatever) burst open and Larry runs up the aisle shouting "HOOOOLD IT! I HAVE EVIDEEENCE!" von Karma double-takes and Phoenix starts celebrating.

Does it work?
:phoenix: This sig is on vacation. Until then, have a cat with a francake on his head.

Saying something (an introduction of yourself) and a bit of song/scales would be good. It would be bad if we wrote songs that in the end were too difficult, way too easy, too high or too low for the singers.

Just a quick note everyone, we're not going to cut anything out until we get all the first drafts in. Then, the Directors will all get together (AIM, MSN or IRC) and make an executive decision. I still think we can fit 1-3 in if it's abridged a bit, as it would be hard for us to stretch out 1-2 long enough to cover for it's absence.

I've also had a few ideas for some of the songs for the musical. One would be called 'I Gotta Lotta Life' and it would be a light-hearted song, and very country music-like. 'Please treat me with respect is all I ask, but if you don't I'll kick you in the ass! And everyone in town knows I'm excitable, delightable and ready to start a fight-able!'

The other would be a more sad and emotional song for Edgey called 'Don't wait up for me'. He'd sing it after the first time Wright meets him in the detention center. I haven't done any lyrics for that one though.

I've already written a handful of melodies and I promise they're catchy and lovely! :) That idea sounds funny for a Lotta song, by the way. I'd love if she said some of the most ludicrous things, though, like "Respect is what I mean - or I'll kick yer in the spleen!".

I need to shift a few things around in the original post incl. positions (to give people a better idea of who to turn to). I'm gonna need help with writing longer paragraphs for the original post, however.

I completly agree, let's get a full blown draft in and see how long that looks. Maybe we won't have to cut out nearly as much as we think we will. If it turns out to be a 6 hour show, we'll have a problem, if it turns out we got 2 and a half hours, we're in pretty darn good shape.

Just remember, we can have a fairly long musical if needed. I've seen a couple that go out to about 3 hours running time before.

I don't have a lot of confidence in my abilities of writing ideas out for fandom (I made a bunch of fanfics, but I don't post them here. What does that tell you?), so as much as I would like to, I won't post anything.

Alright, maybe one idea. Mix Gant's theme with Bowser's theme from Mario Bros., and maybe make it more grunge-like, and mayb you can use the song for Manfred? But please, for the love of all that is holy, do not try to over-emphasize his importance (by using a Sephiroth theme).

I've got about.... 6-7 pages for the 1st investigation period. Which seems a lot until you realise that people naturally speak fast. I'd estimate thats about 20-25 mins work, including songs. We could probably snip that down to fifteen.

Back and done. A lot of positions have new names, they may not be accurate yet and I'm listed as Head X for quite a few things, but I want new users to know who to turn to instantly. Anyone else has a say in this as much as I do, really. We'll work the list out again sometime.

Miss Prince, I would love to have you on the Head Supervisor team. You're very experienced, your overview and your ideas are excellent. Please let me know if you are interested.

All of the songs will be either fully original or arrangements of PW tunes.

Praise the lord above for that, ese! The last thing I would want to hear is Manfred coming into the courtroom with a choir in the background... Gant, maybe it's okay with him, but not necessarily Manfred.

Hiya, I can't help very much with this at present due to academic commitments but if you're still working on this during the summer I can offer my services as a second violin, keyboard player and alto singer (I can do soprano if pushed). In the meantime I can offer you the entirety of the Gyakusheets.tk sheet music archive if you need it for anything - I've almost transcribed all the major PW1 themes (if there's any you really want arranged let me know and I'll make them priority).

Otherwise, the very best of luck with your endeavour!

I'd be honored to join the head supervisor team. I hope I prove useful! And I should mention that I also play trumpet (Bb) at a decent high school level. Given time to practice I can handle most anything as long as it isn't a) extremely fast (I can't double-tongue consistently) or b) too high (above a high concert Bb is just too much for me).

I'd like to see a first script draft before we get very far along with songs. That way we can decide where to place the songs in the script, and how to balance them (fast/slow songs, chorus numbers/solos/duets, etc.) I know the script-writers are working now, so it'll be interesting to see what we come up with.

I made a couple of simple themes for everyone's disposal when the time comes (couple translates to a bunch of AGH I HATE THIS *delete* and one I actually liked.) I'll see if they're useful when the time comes.

Haha overdramaticizing. Now I'm imagining a dark shillouette of von Karma standing at the courtroom entrance with fog machines working full blast behind him. Smoke pours out of teh doors to the left and right, overflowing into the pit (and pissing off the conductor as well). A pipe organ plays with a chorus singing lout DAAAH DAAAAAHHH! DAAAH DAAAAAAH! etc. Like Trinity Blood music if anyone here has seen the anime. Two lights come on, both tightly aimed at von Karma on the loudest and highest pitched DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! He utters an evil laugh. And...scene.
Overdramaticizing can be fun. Not actually suggesting that though. Anyway, moving on! Kindly ignore the crazy person that just posted this.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I could also play the ocarina a bit in addition to clarinet. I don't have as much experience, but I could probably play something simple. Do I need to send in a sample?

Hm, Ethed do you think you could give a little more time on the script? I kind of got booked all of a sudden. 2 or 3 days more is really all that I need.

BTW, you forgot to add me to the writing team on the first post. I don't really mind but you made it pretty clear if we were forgotten to remind you so I don't want to let you down. :salute:

This idea is amazing and I cannot resist contributing somehow, whether it be lyrics or something else like that.

I would expect von Karma to have about the lowest bass part you could possibly get, something like the Mikado from the Gilbert and Sullivan musical of the same name or Caiaphas in Jesus Christ: Superstar. As for his entrance theme, some sort of vaguely German march ought to work (I imagine something rather percussion heavy) playing as all the "backup singer" bailiffs bow at his entrance, and even the Judge stands while von Karma methodically makes his way to the bench.

Von Karma = very loud and very deep in all music fields. He's got to have a very epic entrance, somehow, like he's rewarding everyone with his mere presence.

(...or maybe I'm thinking of Redd White with that last bit. XD)

I *still* haven't started my script. This week is going to be a real crunch for me since it's the first few days back from Thanksgiving break, but I'll make something ASAP. There is a problem: if we're cutting 1-3, is there a list of available scenes somewhere? I need to pick something new to work on.

EDIT: Gerkuman, that's perfect! Like Ethed said, try and make the lyrics as absurd as posibble.

Also, a suggestion: I think compressing the first four cases would be biting off a bit too much. Perhaps the first case can be a song or two, and the remainder of 1-2 will be in the first act. The second act would be focused entirely on 1-4. 1-3, while fun, is pretty much a filler and I think would really slow down the musical, which would need to be focused on the main story arc. However, perhaps the Wright/Edgeworth team-up near the end of 1-3 could be shifted to the end of the first act (1-2).

Just a suggestion, though. If you go with that, and assuming you keep all the characters involved, you'll need...

-Phoenix Wright
-Maya Fey
-Mia Fey
-Miles Edgeworth
-Larry Butz
-Judge
-Manfred von Karma
-Frank Sahwit
-Marvin Grossburg
-April May

-Lotta Hart

We're cutting the third case, I believe.

Maya plays the same role as she normally does. :D She'd have her spotlight more in 1-2 and then just be Phoenix's partner for the rest of the show, but how we're going to pull off the Maya-channeling-Mia part is beyond me.

I know, I know! I loved the third case too, but if worse comes to worse and the musical ends up running too long, the third case is the first one to get cut or shortened since it's the least relevant to the DL-6 arc.

For Maya channeling Mia, it's the transition I'm most worried about. I think the stage can go black, and the two switch places, and when the lights come up Mia in Maya's clothes is in Maya's place; this might not be as clean, though.

Maya's voice can be somewhere very near soprano. Kinda little-girl-ish, but don't think Pearl. Maya isn't as innocent as a kid, but she's not an adult either. Does that make sense?

That's very true. We can stick something in about the Steel Samurai or make mentions to it; that way, all the Steel Samurai business with Larry in 1-4 is more justified.

(For example, right before 1-4 happens, Maya is watching the Steel Samurai in Phoenix's office, just like the beginning of 1-3. That would be a cute little scene:

:phoenix:: Maya, I'm trying to work!
:maya:: WOO. YOU GET HIM, STEEL SAMURAI. YOU ROCK. *fist pump*
:nick:: *sigh*)
