On the software thing I'm using garageband, which allows for some decent mixing. The syncing should take a bit, but it won't be hard per se.

I only have pretty much a third-rate microphone... pisses me off... hmm...

Question: Is there a change of there being, like, a "Musical: Preview" being made or something? You know, like, its introduced about a month before the musical itself is revealed publicly?

Oh! I just thought of another question!

There seems to be a few people working on the actual script for the musical but have we heard any music compositions yet? if there is anyone out there who has composed possible pieces for the musical, could they put the songs in midi form or something to that we could have a quick listen?

Jenna, TheeGoblin, are you guys going to edit the music? I'm still on the first page for editing, but if you guys want to do it that's cool. I just wanted to make sure we're on the same page.

I'm not really a real music editor myself even though I'm familar with the programs the guys use. I even have a keyboard synthesizer at home too. I was just gonna ask my friend who is a real music producer to help me edit and maybe compose a piece if something comes to mind. If he couldn't I was gonna head down to a music studio which is like down the street from where I'm staying at. The reason I orginally offered to help was because with all these music resources here, seems like a waste if I couldn't use them to help you guys out.

Well considering all the lines/sound fx/songs that'll be needed to put together. A good number of sound mixers will be needed to share out the work, and the more professional the software the better.

Sounds like we will be using instruments played by CR members for some songs. So it'll be easy to edit because we wont have to use so many sound loops provided by the software (too many sound loops make things sound generic)

At home i have Garageband and Logic Pro
(though i will only have the dongle for Logic Pro till January, so anything thats been recorded so far send it in cose its a really funky program) i could always try and crack logic pro after January though i hear its hard to do.

At University I have access to 4-5 different sound editing programs and a studio. (theres a keyboard synthesizer there but i cant play keyboard/piano very well)

If anyone with sound editing programs like Garage band, or any other ones, want to pratice editing a song togther I have one from uni for The Hand that Feeds You by NIN. All the vocals/backing vocals and intrumental is separated for studio editing.
PM me if your interested, i think its emailable.

I kinda figured music arrangement and the mixers would be working together, because we do need to be on the same page and all....

Sounds like there's plenty of people available that know how to use the different programs for mixing, so I'm sure you all can get that worked out :)

As for the singers' side of things, I guess the way it would work for parts with harmonies is the first person sings their part and gets a good clean recording of it, then sends it to the person in charge of putting that song together. Then that person sends the recording to the next person who has a part in the song and they time their singing/harmony parts to that recording(have it play through earphones while recording your own part, maybe?). Then they send their recording to the person in charge of mixing that song, and they blend the 2 and send THAT recording to the next person that has a part, and so on.

The main thing for singers to remember would be to "tone down" their "solo voice" during the harmony parts to make it easier for the next singer to blend with them during the harmonies. (I'm pretty sure singers will know what I'm talking about here ... sing to blend more than sound good by yourself, less style, more blend).

I think it could work like that, hopefully. Thoughts?

Oh, and thanks for the feedback. I thought my Gumshoe was my best sample, and Edgeworth was second best :) I did make an error during the Edgeworth recordings, however. Anyone catch it? :P

And I should be able to hold either voice pretty easily during singing parts.

To facilitate toning down the "solo voice," maybe the person in charge of mixing could start with a MIDI track of each vocal part, send it to the first person, then replace that MIDI track with the vocal and send it to the next person, etc. It might help the first person especially to get in a harmonizing mood instead of a solo mood.

I KNOW it's a T&T song, but maybe Atmey's theme could be remixed for a reminiscence song? Espectially the first part of it, the intro. All we need are some string instrumenteers.

OK just making sure.

I use Adobe Auditon and Cubase. Gonna try to learn Fruity Loops next (Beat making), but I don't think that'll help the musicial.. ah hah.

Yeah, I think understand where you're coming from. Especially with people using different mics and recording tools, the sound levels are gonna be all over the place.

I think that each of us recording our own voices individually would be the best way to go. If we try to just record each voice over one track over and over, I feel like the quality might decrease pretty quickly...
 And then of course, the balance of each voice can be changed and re-changed, etc, etc. Am I understanding correctly that some people here have a program that can mix multiple tracks? Sounds expensive... :igarashi:

Hello all! I saw Shinkinrui and Ff3girl doing this so i thought I'd give it a try as well. I was really excited to hear about this project from Shinkinrui and I would love to anything to be a part of it. Because my most helpful talent here is singing, I'm hoping to be a vocalist.Although I haven't had much experience in acting but I was in the top choir in my schools from 6th grade up to 12 grade and now I'm in an a capella group with some of my friends to keep my voice in shape. Here are a few clips of the parts I'd like to try for.
First, voice acting clips:

Me as Maya Clip 1 Clip 2
Me as Lotta Hart
Me as April May
Me as Wendy Oldbag

And my audition songs Song 1 and Song 2.

Thanks for your time! I hope I can be part of the awesome project! :edgy:

Well, I wasn't talking about recording each voice over one track. You PLAY the track to listen to and blend with while you're recording your own, separate track, and then the mix person uses their fancy, expensive software :keiko: to mix them together.

Miss Prince wrote:

Good idea :D I hope each part will have their own midi, too, for fools like me who can't sight read

I also just thought of another way I can help/contribute. I've got a server that's not hosting anything right now(it's a pain in the ass to cancel the service, so I just keep it for when I want to host something), so I could put up a Teamspeak server on it for this project :D We could use it to rehearse speaking parts together, for song writers to brainstorm together, etc. For those of you who don't know what Teamspeak is, it's basically a program that lets a bunch of people connect to a server and talk to each other via microphone at once. Like a chatroom with sound :hotti:

Unless there's some reason you don't want it, I'll get it set up sometime within the next few days and post the connection info here :)

Well, Atmey's song is, at this point, more of a Tango-esque song (I know because of I got to play it at my school under that category), but the main notes of it could be slowed, and a purely string-orchestra could be used, to make it sound depressing, with the deep sound of a cello (I really hope I spelled that right... the giant violin?). Most of the notes could still be kept the same, but if the rhythm is slowed, it could be made great!

I can't afford, let along play, any instruments though, but string-instrument orchestra would be perfect for it.

"Cello" is correct. I believe string instruments synthesize fairly well.

I'm sorry, in all honesty... you're not a good Redd White. IMO, I always imagined him with a smug, deeper voice, and just hearing "person-idge", it just... doesn't sound like him at all.

Larry, however, wasn't that bad, IMO! Only one issue. He needs to be a biiiit more whiny, not Ron-like, but just a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle bit more.

I think you could make a great Larry, pal(sorry, now that I'm listed as Gumshoe, I couldn't resist :P). Your voice is perfect for him, just put a little more emotion into it, not over the top, but just a tad more, ya know? The first clips sounded a bit stiff. I'm not sure I agree with adding a little more whine, I liked the tone of the voice as it was. But hey, we've got plenty of time to experiment and tweak it to perfection.

You've got a great singing voice, too, good quality tenor :D I've never heard that song you did, but it seemed like you did a very decent job on it for it being a capella.

I want to hear more sound clips from everyone :D Also, I'm of the opinion that everyone should at least try the most important roles(Phoenix and Edgeworth for the guys, Maya and Mia for the gals), even if you don't think you'd be good for the role. You never know, everyone may disagree with you, and we should have a good amount of choices for those roles to make sure we get the best people for them :)

I might be able to do a Redd White, but I don't think I can sing well enough like him... besides, it's probably turn into a rip-off of "See my vest" from The Simpsons.

That song was awesome XD My favorite Simpsons moments are always the musical ones.

Burns: "I REALLY like the vest!"
Smithers: "I'd gathered that, sir."
-=-=-
Apu: "Who needs the Quickie Mart? I doooooo"
Homer: "Hey, he's not happy at all! He lied to us through song! I HATE when people do that!"
-=-=-
Everyone: "Monorail, monorail, monoraaaaiiiillll!"
Homer: "Mono- ... D'OH!"

In fact, I think my favorite moments from all of my favorite series are the musical ones :D Music just rules

Since everyone else is uploading speaking and singing clips, I figure I might as well join the crowd. So here's some of mine. They aren't the ones I sent to Ethed, since I liked the "read some of the script" format better, and did that this time, but I think they work just as well if not better.

Me as Phoenix: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WY0KN8VI

Me as Edgeworth: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0M9765AJ

Me as Payne: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=M1QNST0D

Me as Redd: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J9XOR9DL

And here are some of the singing ones:

Don Quixote: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UGSHAPMC

Razzle Dazzle: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4C7R3571

These are all in OGG format, so if they don't play, it might be a format issue.

Serenity, you've got a great singing voice! I'm not sure I agree that your voice is perfect for Mia/Maya, though. Don't get me wrong, I loved the tone and how natural it sounded. The only thing is ... I just couldn't see portraying Mia and Maya as both having southern accents. It's not a thick southern accent, but it's there. I dunno, maybe I'm just being too sensitive of it since I'm from the Midwest and we're supposed to have the most "neutral" accents of anywhere. What does everyone else think?

Dilbert, you've also got a really awesome singing voice- very impressive. For the speaking parts, I liked your Winston Payne the best. Thing is though, that's such a minor role and it would suck to waste your awesome singing voice on a role like that. I'd personally love to hear another Phoenix Wright by you, but with you lowering the pitch of your voice a little for it. Oh, one other thing ... I couldn't help but notice the "719" at the end of your name. That's the area code from central Colorado ... are you from the Colorado Springs or Pueblo areas, perhaps? I'm in Colorado Springs, that's why I ask.

Everyone keep posting your voice clips! This is so much fun :gant:

I completely agree. Your Payne was actually spot-on in my opinion, but your singing voice is sooo AWESOME! Let me bring this up as something we might want to discuss: Are all of the characters going to have the same actors doing the speaking AND singing for their own particular character?

I first began wondering this when I wondered if we might be wasting talent by not using an actor (who sounds exactly like a particular character) but who might not have the best singing voice, or visa versa.

Of course, then you have the whole issue of the voices not always matching between singing and speaking. :nick: And that is really annoying.

Ideas?

Alright, I decided to say "The hell with it", and upload a Redd White demo anyways. Personally, I think I should be speaking louder and somewhat deeper, however, it's 1:00 AM at the moment, so....

Redd White: http://media.putfile.com/Redd-White-Demo

I COULD sing in this voice, but I need some lyrics... that REDD might actually sing to.

Thanks, Mr. Scruffy Detective, and ff3girl! Somehow I had a feeling my Payne would go over well; it's exactly what I hear in my head when I play the game, which the others aren't, exactly. As for re-doing the Phoenix clip, I'd be glad to keep throwing clips around. Just need to work on getting the mic to pick up the deeper stuff. (I wish I had thought to bring my better mic home with me the last time I was down moving stuff from my apartment.) Sadly, though, I've never been within 4 or 5 states of Colorado. When I first got an account, Dilbert was taken, so I just hit 3 random numbers. I'm actually in the Philadelphia area, and until a month or so ago, I was in the DC area for grad school.

WM, give us a few bars of Modern Major General, perhaps? (Or even better, if you know the Capitol Steps song "I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major Imbecile," but I doubt the Steps have a wide fan base on CR.)

Ajerben: I absolutely loved your Larry. Shinkinrui pointed this out to me too- I was sold as soon as I heard you say 'dude.' :edgy:

I'm not sure it would need too much changing either. Of course we still have lot of time to talk about these things and try different ideas..

I guess I could try that, I'll look up the lyrics a bit later on though, and bump up my former post, with the song. Thanks for the help!... also, any opinion on the voice used?

Sorry, I know I'm going crazy on the posts in this thread, but I can't help but get more and more excited about it >.> I forgot to comment on 2 of the sound clip uploaders.

Phantom Otaku was pretty decent as Oldbag and maybe Maya too, and I love her singing voice(although I'm probably a bit biased, being her brother and all :P).

Wrestlemania, I liked you as Redd White. Maybe just make your voice a bit deeper. I want to hear your singing voice, too.

Okay, I'm off to set up our Teamspeak server now. Should have it up and running soon ;)

Honestly, the first thought that ran through my mind was that you'd make a great Homestar Runner if the Brothers Chaps get tired of doing it. For Redd, I'd recommend taking it a touch slower, with perhaps a crisper enunciation. He loves showing off, and the best way to show off when speaking is to give people just enough time to catch up to what he's saying, but not enough to comprehend it. The timbre of your voice is spot on as is.

Hi all.
I'm going to try and get a microphone today, so I'll hopefully have some voice clips up by the end of the day. No promises! I'll probably do minor roles, because it's probably best if you keep my voice out of it as much as possible. I'm more of the "WWE Announcer" type, though I can do some voices...

Ah, I noticed that I need to be deeper with my voice as well! *reads the post with the sound sample*

Again, it's really late, so I'll probably try to sound it out again tomorrow. I also have a terrible habit of speaking fast, but if Redd was to sing MMG, he'd probably slow it, regardless of it being in tune... But I might be able to speak quickly as his voice.
