Happy New Year, everyone!

So far we're getting a lot of song and scene input, which is great because the writers know where to put it in their scripts. :O Keep those coming; I think the script writing stage goes hand in hand with the music writing stage.

Until Ethed comes back and makes updates- for all those with auditions, sit tight. (The most you can get from me is suggestions, since I'm not a professional actress/singer at all.) Record your auditions and have them at the ready, or post them here so you can get feedback. All the writers and song people, keep on writing!

Hey! I finally got a microphone, so here are my auditions for Maya and Penny (even though you guys probably already have a Maya...) and a couple of songs.

Maya audition

Penny audition

The Christmas Song
(Yes, I know it's a Christmas song, but I like singing it. :phoenix: )

Paint it Black- The Rolling Stones
(The humming in the middle is part of the song. It sounds kinda weird... maybe I shouldn't have recorded it. But oh well.)

Should I PM these to Ethed? I heard her inbox is full, but I'm not really sure. :meekins:

Comfortably Numb, I think you have just the right voice for playing Maya. You sound young and you singing voice has a quality that reminds me of her. ... Of course, something like this subjective since everyone who plays the game pictures the characters voices differently.
Also, I'm not much for acting myself but your clips seemed just a might stiff ... But other than that, I think you're great! :pearly:

Wrestlemania- I know you probably worked hard on the lyrics. They look to me like they could work, but it's hard to make too many comments without a tune... :payne: Would you feel up to singing a tune to go with them?

Comfortably Numb- I also love your singing voice for Maya! (Again, I know this is subjective...) Your singing sounds beautiful! I feel the same way ThePhantomOtaku does about your speaking, though... It sound like your speaking voices could sound more natural. I think this is something that comes with practice, though. Of course, if you practice one set of lines too much, then it's really hard to make it sound natural... :yogi:

Still, overall, superb audition!

Wow Comfortably Numb, You're really good.
=P I just ordered a Microphone(Along with PW:JFA) From Amazon So I should be able to Audition in About 2 weeks.

Also Wrestlemania, Posting Song Lyrics without A Tune Or anything makes it pretty hard to Really hard to tell If the song Works or not, So it makes it hard to comment on.

And I'm Pretty sure that We Aren't REALLY Picking who's who until The Scripting Phrase is Done.
I think it goes Scripting>Casting>Mixing>Animating Right?

Well, there are some roles that have tentatively been cast--Skankin Garbage for Phoenix (I think?)and Shinkinrui for Gumshoe, for example. We enjoy discussing who fits in what role, too.

I look forward to hearing your audition, Jeshi! You should definitely try "The Samurai Always Wins." BTW- Love your sig! XD

Edit- Wrestlemania: I don't know if there's a website, per se. :yuusaku: I do know that there are some compositional programs like Sybellius (sp?), but they're very expensive. I like what Pennfalath did, too. He just sang his song the way he imagined it sounding and posted that. That at least gave a framework to work with for writing accompaniment. Does that help at all?

I'll look it up! =)

All I have is a cheaply made keyboard (which I suck at using) and an old recorder (used to be great at playing it... when I was in grade school :sadshoe: ). So any program, could be a good program... also, ANYTHING to make it so I dont have to use Mario Paint for it! XD.

Also, I can't play Oldbag... at 19 years and a deep voice, it'd end up sounding weird... I MAY be able to pull off "Maya", but...

Hello everyone, I'm posting this on behalf of Eth.

Hello everyone!

Raikujo will be posting this in my name as I can't log on from this computer myself. In this post I'll cover as much as I can of the latest discussions from page 20 on, but before I begin: good news regarding my hard disk. I had to send the entire computer in but they're replacing the broken one after retrieving all (I... hope) files and transfering them to the new drive. Thankfully the fee is partically covered by warranty.. I also ordered a new external hard drive to avoid this crap. It should take them a few business days and I hope to be back within the week.

First of all, mriparian, the script writer for 1-3 day 2, messaged me today. He cannot contribute to the musical at this point in time and we'll be needing a replacement. Jenna Darknight has made excellent progress on the script.

Writers: Rather make it too long than too short! We can always cut and edit afterwards and decide how much exactly is necessary to guarantee characterisation as excellent as it was done in the games (although they did have a lot more space for it). As Gerkuman said (and I didn't get to read all of the work posted yet), some things may just be too good to be left out.

SEND EVERYTHING TO GERKUMAN via e-mail - Gerkinman@ntlworld.com - or via PM, even if you have posted in the thread already. It's so hard to keep track of posts sometimes.

Wrestlemania asked (I've answered that one before) whether every character would get a specific song - while you have highly present personalities such as Manfred von Karma and Phoenix Wright, there is no space in a musical of such large cast to introduce every single character in a song. Imagine how repetitive that would get, too - characterisation can be explicit or implicit, and a lot of it is implicit regardless of the scenario. There is interaction - the way characters react to each other or when placed in a specific scene, there is appearance - you won't have our favorite protagonist singing "I am Phoenix Wright, single male lawyer, wearing blue suit. Suit, suit, suit.", there is hearsay and so on.

The latest auditions impressed me a lot, by the way - I think we'll assign a few more roles soon. Response in the thread plays a large role, too. Keep working hard, everyone, and don't forget to cheer for your fellow teammates!

Regarding the whole cross examination issue... I'm always open to suggestions of course, but I think we should all keep in mind that Phoenix Wright is a game. No, it's a story put into a game. You got the pretty stiff cross-examinations (for instance, assuming no protocol: when would a court ever allow you to freely browse through the EXACT witness statements by making them repeat over and over?), you can take all the time in the world to evaluate your evidence etc. etc.... That's how it works in a game but not in a musical, unless as comic relief. You can't copy the game while sacrificing theatre and music. What's the point in a traditional musical otherwise? Adjustments and sacrifices need to be made to assure a credible dramatisation. This may disappoint a handful of people, but I think we need to stay down-to-earth to make it all work out. It's not like we're throwing away the game, as much of the game feeling as possible will be implemented. Of course though, spoken dialogue can solve a lot - a court tune in the background and spoken dialogue over it that may or may not merge into a song will help us with the trials, I'm sure.

As we all live in different timezones, I would suggest the weekends for official musical meetings on Teamspeak. Naturally, everyone is welcome to join.

To the new people that are interested but come without samples: We need every helping hand we can get, but a mere post in the thread saying you're available is likely to get overlooked! This is no personal offense, of course. We're just turning into a mob of busy people :< lolol caturday

No, in all seriousness, you are welcome to join but showing a little self-confidence and advertising yourself properly will get you very far, not only in this musical project.

I cannot promise everyone applying will be in the final production and even now no roles are final, but availability should be credited as well. For now the following will be added including notes (hoping I didn't forget anyone):

Songwriters

Pennfalath (if interested)

Vocalists

LySS - f -

Sakuro - f -

Comfortably Numb - f -

Instrumentalists

Pennfalath - Alto Saxophone (Eb) - 10y, req sheet music

I might've overlooked a few things here and there myself. However, as you all know, I am a ridiculously busy person and must now focus my full attention on this oversized bowl of soup, highlight of my career.

Wishing you all a belated merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2008,

Eth

Alright! Got everything! I hope you all enjoy!

First things first: Audition Songs

Song 1 -- Forgive the static, and the lack of being warmed up.
Song 2 -- Second song, a more classical-sounding ballad, put up to contrast the contemporary sound of the former.
Song 3 -- Third song, there to show off range and vocal power (my favorite of the three, enjoy!)

And now all the countless reads I decided to do because I'm an overachiever...

Phoenix Wright: Clip 1 / Clip 2
Miles Edgeworth: Clip 1 / Clip 2
Larry Butz: Clip 1 / Clip 2
Winston Payne: Clip 1
Redd White: Clip 1

I really hope these work, haha--I didn't really know quite how to do this all. :payne:

In any case, I hope you enjoy all of these clips, and feedback is always greatly appreciated.

Enjoy!

...now to send this all to Ethed...

Very nice, man! I really liked your auditions for Phoenix (though I don't like to admit it :P), Butz and Payne! I hope you get a part in this, dude!

Oh, also:

I've recorded triforce bun's songs with myself singing the parts of Phoenix.

http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/SG/The ... nTrust.mp3

http://www.rpgclassics.com/staff/SG/The ... ysWins.mp3

Sorry to anyone who had already familiarized themselves with the melodies, but I had to change them slightly, because the range of Phoenix's notes just lays right at the bottom of my vocal range. Still, I think I made it sound good. Enjoy.

Actorman, nice clips! I particularly liked your Butz and Payne.

Skankin' Garbage, I enjoy your take on Phoenix in those songs. I do picture Wright having a tenor voice along those lines, even if I contradict myself with the low G...but you did hit the low G accurately at that point anyway. Sounds nice with it up an octave during the trio at the end though, hehe.

Mia song will be up tomorrow.

EDIT: Actually, you just gave me an idea. What if during the trio at the end, Phoenix sang it low the first time ("Please no more lies, I have tried to use a light touch. I'm trying to preserve the show that you love so much") then up an octave the second time ("Please tell the truth, this is just a fictitious tale, I'm trying to keep the Steel Samurai out of jail"). That way, Edgeworth will already be covering the low part.

For people looking for composing software: Finale Notepad is free to download, with a variety of instruments and voices, and there's also a lyrics feature. It also has higher-quality-than-you-would-expect playback.

I used to have Notepad 2007, but I'm too tonedeaf to actually write any music (all I can do is sight-read). Notepad 2008 is out now, but I don't know how it's different. It's probably shinier.

Sorry for the late reply back, but thank you for all your compliments.

FF3Girl, I'm loving the Objection song :godot:

I had intended to do that, actually, but I had hurt my voice by that time trying to hit the low notes :/ And actually, I never hit that low G - I take that note up an octave each time. Hell, that C isn't even in my tessitura, which is why is always sounds so weak sauce when I do it :/

Hey everyone!

Sorry to break into the conversation here; I'm unable to listen to any of the other sound clips right now, but I will (hopefully) soon and lend my opinion - I'm sure they're fantastic!

I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a good-quality microphone for me to buy? I'm not sure I'll be able to use the equipment at my school once I go back, and my laptop mic just isn't cutting it!

Actorman--I just listened to your songs right now... they make me happy inside. :jazzedgy: Now I'm listening to your Phoenix clips--those make me happy inside too...! You must be good at that.

I think your Edgeworth clips make me the happiest of all!! Wow... you bring so much happiness.

I hereby throw my vote into your corner for the role of Edgeworth.

Edit--Please please please record yourself in some of the songs that Shinkinrui put up that are missing Phoenix's parts. I want to hear you in that too!

Edit: I changed my mind... I want you to play the part of Edgeworth AND Larry... ..!

EDIT: All of your clips are really good, actually o.o I'm in awe. You're awesome.

Skankin', sounds pretty decent. :) However, it sounded almost like you were trying too hard in those songs ... I think maybe you were trying to get your volume to match the volume of the other voices ... Keep in mind that you can use the software to raise the volume of your voice :) If you're using Audacity like I did, There's a slider on the left for the volume for each track of the recording. My suggestion is to make another recording using your natural volume, what you're comfortable with, and then raise the volume of the recording using your software. These recordings were alright, but I dunno, something about them didn't rub me right. If I'm being overcritical, sorry ... Constructive criticism = good though, right? :gymshoe:

Ethed, thanks for the update :)

First of all, mriparian, the script writer for 1-3 day 2, messaged me today. He cannot contribute to the musical at this point in time and we'll be needing a replacement.

I'll be willing to do that after I go back and rework the court day 2 for 1-4. I'm going to try and work the cross-examination to a point where it'll mesh better. However, I'm taking a small break from it at the moment as I've kind of burned myself out a bit on it after taking 48 hrs to get everything after the first cross-examination done.

I actually recorded with adobe audition, but yeah, you can edit the volume. I think the real problem is that my natural singing (and speaking voice) is just very, very loud. Also, for a lot of those singing parts - especially in The Samurai Always Wins - I'm at the very, very bottom of my voice range, so I don't have much control over my volume at that point. :/ If you also have a problem with the speaking parts...well, I don't have anything to say about that...I really liked how I did the speaking parts :P

I understand what you're saying, though. It's not so much of a problem on 'Kinda Guy You Can Trust', so I'll try and redo that one in a few days.

If you want me to, Jenna, I could edit your script for you. It shouldn't be too hard for me, and it would give you more time to focus on 1-3 D2, and relax. :)

Another piece of news: I'm just about done with a piano part for "Make it Right"... ... but I may or may not have changed the lyrics for the entire second verse... I hope you're not too offended, Pennfalath! I also changed a just a couple notes in the tune. I'll put it up tomorrow after I record all the parts and put them together.
