A maybe not so quick OC commentary from me. The idea behind this RP is that Gregory Edgeworth did not die from the result of DL-6 and has recently passed on the reigns of the Edgeworth and Son Law Office to Miles. The time frame is the start of PW:AA.
Other AU goodies: Nick never became a lawyer and he and Larry run a niknak building business.
Valerie Hawthorne was saved.

History: He was infected with GUILT one time and then devoted his life to helping people.
Other: Has a brother named Thomas Ash. Also has a phobia of bears

Name: Shelbie Kyoko
Job: defense aid
Appearance: She wears a purple tube top with a black jacket and black skirt with a silver belt. Shelbie has very short hair. Her brown bangs cover her right eye, both green. And on her left ear, she has a pearl earing.
Personality: She is kind to everyone she meets, she is hoping one day she'll become a defense attorney herself... But not right now.
History: Shelbie has been abused in her home, so she left when she was legal age. She has never been back to tell her family about getting a career as an aid. Her mother has always been pestering her about taking over the family.
Other:Their last name, meaning mirror, and the blood running in them since time started, has allowed them to talk to the dead, but only talk, not channeling. Shelbie was also hoping to get away from that fact. But she freaks out when she sees a dead person here and there.

Name: Jafar Barmak
Job: Prosecutor
Appearance: He is tall and thin, wears a flat, jagged goatee, and is almost always wearing dark red and other moody colors. He is hardly ever seen without his skull topped cane. The eyes of the skull gain a sort of hypnotic light when he's objecting.
Personality: Phoenix has taken to calling him Señor Psychopath as the man likes to erupt in fits of insane laughter at inappropriate and often very creepy points during trials.
History: The Barmaks are a noble Persian family which attained great power under the Abbasid caliphs. The family has its origin in a line of hereditary Zoroastrian priests in a Fire Temple before converting to Islam.
Other: Barmak has an almost morbid fascination with Miles Edgeworth who not only seems to be immune to the hypnotic properties of his staff, but also manages to break others from it with his insufferable logic.

Name: Detective Harley Draco
Job: Criminal Investigator
Appearance: Approximately 6' 3", Draco is a tall man with pale skin, raven hair with red highlights around his bangs, and cool gray eyes. Usually dresses in black khakis with a dark blue dress shirt and a black tie, along with a black overcoat. On his right shoulder, there is a scar from where Dahlia had stabbed him.
Personality: A quiet man use to listening rather than talking. He doesn't like small talk, and interrupts someone if they get off the subject. He is quick to apologize, however, if he is in the wrong.
History: Growing up on the wrong side of the tracks, Draco took an interest in enforcement at the age of 12, and wanted to become a police officer when he grew up. Upon entering college, he became intimate with a detective named Valerie Hawthorne. As their relationship grew, Draco found out about an incident at Dusky Bridge, located up in the mountains near Hazakura Temple. Valerie's younger step-sister Dahlia Hawthorne was kidnapped and murdered by Terry Fawles. She had just made detective and was sent to capture Fawles. Her testimony was the key to convicted Fawles, send him on Death Row. When Draco confronted Valerie about what had happen, she fell silent. It wasn't until Fawles had escaped that she called Draco and told him the truth. She said when she would meet with Terry, and tell him the truth. Draco had a bad feeling about it and immediately rush out to intercept Valerie. There he saw for the first time, Dahlia Hawthorne, the supposed victim of the murder. Seeing she brandished a knife and was ready to kill Valerie, Draco intercepted, taking a deep wound in the shoulder. Dahlia did not kill Valerie, but she manage to escape, and has yet been seen since. Upon graduating, he immediately joined the force, and grew to the rank of CI.
Other: He and Valerie have been seeing each other for years now, and so he intends to propose to her in the near future.

Name: Jay Slezak
Job: Detective
Appearance: Medium-length, curly black hair (that hasn't quite gotten in the way of his eyes yet), hazel-colored eyes, average-height, average-weight, wearing a blue business suit and black tennis shoes that very much resemble dress shoes at a glance. Strapped to his waist is a black case where Jay keeps all his investigation equipment and a few extra items, including a few small notebooks for evidence-logging.
Personality: Jay is kind around people he knows and is always willing to make new friends. He's a quite casual guy, not afraid to be humorous, but gets serious when danger is near. Sometimes indecisive, Jay would rather work with a team than take charge of one, even though he'd gladly do it if he needed to. Jay is also a good record-keeper, writing down information about any evidence he finds.
History: Jay has had an interesting life. He's been on many adventures and has learned a lot from them. His past is slightly confusing, however. Anyway, he has one brother, Jeremy, currently working as a teacher. Jay has also taken the bar exam and passed, earning his attorney's badge, but decided to go into detective work because he likes scientific investigation, but is willing to pin on his badge if he absolutely needs to. He has not needed to stand in on a case yet, but if he ever does, he'll know exactly how to investigate it.
Other: Jay is visually-impaired, though you wouldn't know it from how he acts.

Name: Levana Halo
Job:Forensic Psychologist
Appearance: She wears her red hair back in a pony tail, showing her sparkling black eyes. Levana wears a white lab coat, botton up but underneath she has a white t-shirt. And she wears a ling brown skirt with brown boot.
Personality: She is normally calm until something shocking comes her way. She also has a short fuse depending on the situation.
History: When Levana was younger, she wanted to be a psychologist. When she was a little older (High school), Levana went to a couple of court sessions and saw how most people where tried guilty with out seeing that they had a mental disease. And that's when she wanted to become a Forensic Psychologist, to show others that the defendant has a mental disorder or not.
Other: Levana has never really been good in science, but got past the obstical. She has the fear of going into deep water.

Name: Aser Amun
Job: Prosecutor
Appearance: Relatively tall, and moderately well-built. Dark-ish yellow hair, dark blue eyes. Wears a long-sleeved purple jacket and long black trousers most of the time.
Personality: A very much teasing and mocking personality.
History: Got through life averagly, until college. There, he took up smoking tabacco (and once or twice cannabis after someone spiked his tabacco with it), and got excellent grades in his major (Law). Eventually got a job in the Prosecution's Office.
Other: Smokes money. Seriously. If he docks his officer's pay, he takes great pleasure in smoking their money in their face.

Name: Abel Scythemoon
Job: Bartender (previous job was defense attorney/prosecutor)
Appearance: A very handsome fellow, with steel-toed boots, black vest and sleeveless shirt, black jeans with chains, and jet-black hair pulled back in a pony tail, tipped with a yellow-orange color. Athletic, 6' 5" describes his body build.
Personality: A likable man, generous, but is constantly haunted by his past endeavors.
History: Abel is the youngest of the quadruplet Scythemoon family. His brothers went their seperate ways after they had gotten into a family feud, resulting in the death of their parents. The eldest brother, Damien, slowly went mad, and is now housed in an insane asylum. Below him was Damien, who is now a high criminal warlord with a slippery reputation of not getting caught. Then there's Gabriel, now an agent of the CIA. Abel's the youngest, and was a defense attorney/prosecutor, and a damned good one at that. He was shot in the courtroom during a crime trial just when he was about to put the man into jail. He survived, but strayed away from the courtroom and opened up a bar just next to it. The Talons of Justice tavern, is it's name
Other: Abel is gravely afraid of guns.

.:.Plot Summary.:.
Miles was rereading over his first case with Shelbie Kyoko wandered into his office. After some brief talking he hired her as his assistant. Their first case together was a very simple one involving Larry Butz. He won, of course.
After he and Shelbie went to have lunch where they encountered Mia Fey. Nick returned and they had a fun discussion about some mishaps at a christmas party, then Mia agreed to have dinner with Nick later that night. Nick was surprised and suffered from a severe case of foot in mouth disease as he walked her back to her office. Meanwhile Miles was blowdarted and woke up in some strangers bed. Phoenix and Mia discovered his sudden disappearance and suspected someone might have broken into his office.
This someone was a girl who refers to herself as Mrs. Miles Edgeworth. She raided Miles' office for tea which was immediately noticed by Mia and Nick as they searched the building. When they left to search for Miles Mrs. Edgeworth returned and since she couldn't find the contact lens she dropped (which was picked up by Mia) she burned the place down.
Meanwhile Miles managed to get himself halfway free and contacted Nick, who at the time was just outside the building he was trapped in with Shelbie. Mrs. Edgeworth returned and in defense Miles hit her. Nick and Shelbie entered in time to see Mrs. Edgeworth on the ground and a very crazy Miles standing over her. In his panic he suspected Nick of turning on him and almost attacked, but Mia showed up in time to calm him. Miles was immediately taken to the hospital and questioned by the police about the obvious arson committed on his office. Detective Harley Draco was made lead of the arson case and found out through Gumshoe that Mrs. Miles Edgeworth (also known as Melissa Parks) filed abuse charges against Miles while she was in their custody. She then quickly retracted this action. Miles was released from the hospital on the same day Montgomery Beluciano approached Mia with evidence to use on her next case. One of Monty's thugs beat up Phoenix. Valerie and Gumshoe turned up nothing on their arson investigation, but a phone call to Gregory by Mia revealed that Melissa Parks is actually Melissa Beluciano. She was the youngest of three daughters of the mob boss and considered his favorite despite her similarities to her mother.

Edgeworth and Son Law Offices

The sun filtered through the blinds and into the office. Miles Edgeworth sat at his desk with his pressed into his palm as he read over the case file resting atop the black leather mat meant to protect the antique mahogany wood and stirred the sugar into his tea with his free hand.

Shelbie was in the office that day. Cirousity had gotten the best of her. This office, she felt something different about it. When she opened up a door slightly she saw a man, who looked bored reading a case file. 'Opps!' She thought.

Miles' eyes flicked up towards the slightly opened doorway. He put on a showman's smile.
"Can I help you?" He asked.

Shelbie opened up the door more with a sheepish smile on. "No... I'm ok. Just wandering around." She said, chuckling a little.

"Ah, alright then." Miles went back to reading his files.

"Um... Wait who are you?" Sheblie asked, coming into the room, but keeping the door open just incase.

"Miles Edgeworth." He pointed to the sign outside that said Edgeworth and Son Law Offices, but the blinds obscured most of it.

Shelbie blushed. "Yeah... Well there are two different Edgeworths. Right?" She asked, crossing her arms.

---

"That's right. The second has decided to move to Hawaii." He hadn't bothered to look up from the case file as he spoke. He was easily capable of reading it and holding a conversation.

"Mmhm." Shelbie said, moving into the office more. She looked around the office, impressed with it. 'Great place...' She thought to herself.

Miles had no problem letting the woman wander about. Just as long as she didn't decide to move something. His father always had a nasty habit of picking things up and putting them down in random places. It was frustrating having to find them and put them back.

Shelbie's eyes looked, not wanting to touch anything. She had a feeling if she did, it would make Edgeworth angry. At times, Shelbie would rock back and forth on her heels. Shelbie turned around and faced the door. "Everything in here looks... Expensive." She said, raising an eyebrow.

"Because it is." Miles informed her as he highlighted certain lines on the document in pink. "My father has a bad habit of collecting things on his travels that some how just happen to be worth a lot of money only after he's purchased them for some insanely low price."

Shelbie smiled lightly. "Your dad sounds nice." She said, turning around once again. 'If I keep turning around, I'll go dizzy...' She thought, coughing a little from keeping herself from laughing.

"Everyone seems to think so." Miles said with a light sigh behind it. His tea was probably cooled off enough to drink now, so he put the cup to his lips and took a sip.

"So, he isn't?" Shelbie asked, watching him drink. 'But look at all of this stuff.' She thought as she looked around quickly.

"Did I say he wasn't?" Miles looked up at the girl curiously. Then he blinked and went back to his papers. "He's just not the kind of man one wants to be stuck under the shadow of. That's all."

"Well, you did say people thought so..." She said quietly. Then she narrowed her eyes at his last statement. "So, stuck under his shadow, eh." Sheblie said, coming a little more closer to the desk.

"Well I suppose not anymore." He said through his breath and had another sip of tea. "This is going to be my first case without him over my shoulder. It's almost daunting." He highlighted another line as he wondered why he was telling all of this to a stranger.

Sheblie smiled small. "Well, if you need any help... I'm kinda looking to be an aid for a while before I become a lawyer myself." She said proudly, with her head held high.

"If you want you could start by sorting those files." Miles pointed at a pile behind him. "I'm recategorizing them by date and name. I can pay you once every three weeks or at the end of each month. Whichever is better for you financial situation. I'll warn you now, my father made a policy of bartering for his services so many times we might have to rely on selling a relic for our paycheck."

Shelbie looked at the pile of files and then she said,"The end of each month is sound good. *mumbles*Cursed mother is still sending bribe money... Not a lot, but still." She said finishing smiling, her eye twitched slightly. "So, let me get started then." Shelbie said walking over to the files.

"Would you like some tea?" Miles offered when he'd finished his own. He got up and walked over to a very clean tea maker on the other side of the room.

Shelbie eyes the files. "Yes, that sounds good." She said, looking over at Edgeworth.

---

"Do you have a preferred kind?" He asked as he poured water into the pot.

---

"Green tea." She said, kneeling and picking up a couple of files and looking at them.

---

Miles opened a cabinet and scanned the dozens of labeled ziplock bags.
"Gyokuro, Matcha, Sencha, Genmaicha, Kabusecha, Bancha, Hōjicha, Kukicha, or Tamaryokucha?" He asked.

"Sencha." Shelbie grunted. "... You know, I should introduce myself." She said, laughing slightly. "I'm Shelbie Kyoko." Shelbie looked up from the files that she scattered out.

Miles retrieved the kanji labeled ziplock just as the red light on the pot came on. He stuffed the leaves into the proper slot and put them away.
"That will be good to know for when I write your paycheck." He turned and gave her a smile. "Welcome to Edgeworth Law Offices, Ms. Kyoko."

"Thank you." She said, smiling big, nodding her head. Shelbie then looked at the files, concentrating on them.

Miles had to get another cup out when the tea was ready. He poured the hot liquid into one, then delivered it to Shelbie before retrieving his from his desk and walking back to the tea with it.

Shelbie took the tea and blow on it to cool it off, and sipped slowly. Her eyes ran over so many case files, each seemed so interesting. 'Man so many.' She thought, mentally laughing.

Miles returned to his desk with tea at hand and read over the casefile on his desk again.

"So... What are you looking at?" Shelbie asked, looking out the side of her eye.

---

"The murder of Cindy Stone." Miles answered rather bluntly.

---

Shelbie tilted her head slightly. 'Cindy Stone...' She thought over and over again. 'I heard that before...' Shelbie looked up at the ceiling. She then looked at Edgeworth with eyes that said: Explain more please... It might come back to me!

"She was a model. That's probably where you heard the name." Miles informed her. "She was struck in the back of the head with a blunt object and died from the resulting blood loss. The man being accused of the murder is a friend of a friend Larry Butz. He's the victim's ex girlfriend, and also the witness leaving the scene of the crime. The murder weapon is a statue of the thinker."

"Ah." Shlebie said understanding now, looking back at the files. "Friend of a friend." Shelbie muttered to herself. "Was anyone else there?" She asked, picking up more files and putting them in order.
