Because I really do, but I haven't really seen much about him. I could be looking in the wrong places, but I just thought I'd ask.

I think he has some of the funniest lines in the game ("Can't a foolishly, foolish, fool get some love?" "I'm going to get to the bottom of this girl...wait, not that bottom. You know what I mean" To Miss May) and his faces are great. Ack Plus I love how people call him spikey head guy, or something like that.

I don't know I just saw a lot of stuff about Edgey-boy (I like Oldbag's name for him) and the smaller characters, but not so much about him. I just really like him. *Shrug* Phoenix

Do people like ice cream?

What makes Phoenix great is that he is the most real out of the GS cast. You can easily connect with him on the ways he feels and reacts with the people and things around him.

I'm fairly sure that people wouldn't be playing this series if they didn't like the main character, the guy who gets at least half the dialogue in each game. That'd kind-of be a contradiction in itself, wouldn't you think?

Besides, what's not to like? Phoenix is funny, witty and has a really good personality, all the right characteristics to make one great character. Oh, and not to mention the hairdo.

That wasent exactly what I meant, but I didn't say it too clearly, so sorry. I guess I just meant I didn't see a lot of talk about him-good or bad- so I was just curious if there was something I didnt know.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure, as stated above, the game wouldn't be too popular if the players didn't like the character that it is centered around.

He is a very lovable character. I've never met anyone who has played the game and truly doesn't like him.

edit:

Hm. Maybe it's just implied that everyone likes him if they play the game, and there's nothing really to say? :3 I do usually see a decent amount of good talk about him anyways, though, especially around the forum and such.

Probably just implied that people like him. I suppose it was a pretty obvious question, but I come from a place where I am in love with the main character who is constantly bashed. I'll look around some more, and will probably find what the good conversations you were talking about. So thanks for answering my obvious question nicely.

I agree, he isn't as anime characterish as, say, Edgeworth. Edgey has a troubled past and finds it hard to get along with people. Phoenix is more human than the rest.

Also, Phoenix shares his lows with the player. When you're annoyed with a certain character you can bet Phoenix is too. But he doesn't blow up at the character like some hot head and keeps it to "himslef" which most of us with social sense would do.

He's not all gung ho like most other protagonists like "come on! I can't wait until the next annoying puzzle!" When Phoenix gets trampled in court he's all like "You can't be serious"

For the most part I like Phoenix. He did start to annoy me during case 4 and case 5 of AA1, though. I understand how desparately Phoenix wanted to "save" Edgeworth, but I thought he went a little too far with telling Maya he needed Mia all the time, lowering her confidence even further. Then, when she decided to go back to her training, mostly because she couldn't help Phoenix, he bascially goes into a prolonged sulk.

Those are some very human reactions, which is part of what makes Phoenix a good character, but not always likable.

Another thing I didn't really like about Phoenix in AA1, was the fact that he never really seemed to show much emotion. Not matter what he said or thought, I never really felt much emotion from him.

I do like AA2 Phoenix a lot more though. I could really feel his emotions and he seems to have something of a kinder disposition, while still keeping his cynical and sarcastic sense of humour.

I think Phoenix is one of the better game heroes to emerge in the past few years. It's immensely refreshing to play a character who has a life, friends and interests beyond his occupation (unlike just about every gun-toting character to ever appear in a shoot-em-up) and uses his brains to decimate his nemesies.
Plus, he's just a really nice guy. I'd have a beer with him.

If I was a girl, I would totally go out with Phoenix.

My reasons for liking the lovable spiky-haired Defense Attorney mirror most of the others in this topic: Though a kind and caring person, has his sarcastic side makes him all that much more interesting. I'm glad they didn't make him into an overcheery Sonic the Hedgehog, "ALRIGHT, LETS KICK SOME PROSECUTOR BUTT" style hero, or else I would have pulled my hair out.
I yell "OBJECTION!" in the court sometimes!

I love Phoenix for the same reason I never spend much time talking or thinking about him: He's completely, 100%, normal. In a world where tv show directors speak 1337, prosecutors are 13 year olds weilding whips, and almost everyone has some huge quirk or "endearing" mannerism about them, it's nice to see a main character who's level-headed and keeps it all together. Phoenix responds to situations with the same "HUHWHAT?!" reactions and sarcastic snarks that are the type of thing I would come up with, when most of the other characters respond with "OH, THE PROSECUTOR IS WHIPPING THE WITNESS, OKAY THEN." "SHE'S HANDING OUT LUNCHES INSTEAD OF TESTFYING? WHOOPEE FREE FOOD!" "HMM. I THINK I SHOULD KILL HIM FOR INADEQUATELY EXPLAINED REASONS." "LOLZ U R SUCH A N00B ROFLWAFFLE" etc.etc.etc. It's very refreshing in a main character, especially considering it's a LAWYER game and therefore should have SOME root to reality. Phoenix is the reason this game is good. Unfortunately, like I said, since he's so normal and easy to identify with when I'm thinking about characters he tend to rest contentedly in the back of my mind. Frankly, as much fun as the occasional discussion (such as this topic) is, I wouldn't want to spend ALL of my time thinking "THIS GUY IS SO NORMAL, HE'S SO GREAT =DDD" because...it would get dull ^^;

Also, like previously mentioned, his attitude toward his job is not only refreshing but FITTING. He's dealing with murderers, dead bodies, and court trials here. In the typical fighting game/rpg/etc, you have the hero charging into everything with a "LET'S GO FIGHT MORE DEMONS YAY >D" and that can work in those games. But with PW, that would NOT work. Phoenix's mentality of "*sigh* Oh well, let's roll up our sleeves and try to get some investigating done, I guess..." works well here.

*random*...Is it just me or are all of my posts super-long? o.o

I like Phoenix like everyone else has already said. That angle has already been explored pretty thoroughly.

As for why Phoenix is mentioned that much? As said once, it's kinda a given. Phoenix is one of the best characters in the series, if not the best. The real questions are, did you like people like Damon or Redd White or Adrian? Were you surprised by Matt? Don't want to be waiting for Godot? Those characters being liked/loved is less evident then our like of phoenix, thus why we tend to talk about those more.

Phoenix is the air that we breathe. He's vital to our survival and understanding, but people rarely tend to comment onhim or even think about what he's doing there. A pittance, eh Nick? Phoenix

He's just cool. I didn't know a lot about him when I started playing JFA ( the first oneis just so hard to find Sadshoe ) but only a few minutes into the first case and I knew that he was a really popular character.

The reason I like him (and this has been said before) is because he's not like all those big, tough guys in those other games. He's not a one man army, he's not looking forward to a chalenge, and he's got awesome hair. Phoenix

I personally don't think that phoenix is a very well developed character, so I don't feel like I really can relate to him ._.

In the first game, yeah (he is serious whenever you chose to do the right thing).

IN JFA, less. I felt something had worsened. The bad puns he did made him less likable.

In GS4, he's just awesome Hobohodo And in AA:TT you see a diffrent side of him - can't wait to play that in english!

I like Phoenix. In fact, he ranks among my favourite protagonists. I suppose in the first game, I took the view that he's doing all the hard work and somehow has time to add some witty remarks, while I'm giving my own mind a workout and steering the wheel a notch. But myes, his ethic is admirable. What also drew me to him is how I could connect with him, so to speak; when I started putting on my thinking cap, I felt like I could keep up. My instinct was, bit by bit, relating to his. In that sense, the game would really be worse without him.
Not to say he doesn't have his own quirks; we're all well established and agreed with his wit, but his own faith and goodness....Completely common characteristics with just about every other gaming 'hero', I know, but seeing those expressed - arguably, because of their "rarity" throughout the cases - makes it a bit better. He's arguably the most well written character in the game.

It's good that they are: you just saved me ten minutes.

Though it does irritate me how constantly bashed he is throughout Justice For All. We get it Capcom, trying to bluff your way and present evidence at random is bad. Very very bad.
