"Miles just irks me sometimes." Phoenix slipped down to the floor. "It's sort of like he just expects me to do the stuff I do. His dad was always having to get onto him for not saying thank you whenever I did him a favor, and when he would it always sounded forced. I don't know, I guess I was expecting him to say it on his own this time, then when I realized he wasn't I just snapped. I really should go back and apologize. He's been through a lot and I probably didn't help things." Nick had his face pointed at the ceiling as he spoke.

"Everyone keeps saying that, but no one is explaining why." Miles muttered.

"He's not very vocal about a lot of things." Nick rolled his eyes. "Honestly I think if the entire world just up and blew away he'd be happy that he didn't have to talk anymore, grab a book, and just spend the rest of his years growing tea and drinking really expensive wine."

"That shouldn't be necessary." He waved her off verbally. His thoughts weren't exactly in the room at the moment.

She looked down the halls, she felt death everywhere, of course of the curse that hangs over head, this should be something she is use to. But not using her power that much, it just creeps her out. Finally she saw her way out, the cold air touching her face she took in a breath and let it out.

"Yeah, Mr. Edgeworth is like the polar opposite of Miles." Nick laughed. "He didn't used to be though. Actually, he was sort of an ass. It wasn't until he got shot in that elevator that he really opened up." Nick told her. "I don't really remember, so I'm just taking Mr. Edgeworth at his word. It doesn't really seem like the kind of thing he'd lie about." Nick shrugged.

"Yeah, to this day he curls into a little shaking ball when we have an earthquake." Nick laughed. "I remember me and Larry used to shake the tree house when he was in it. He would completely freak out. It was hilarious. One time he even wet himself." Nick's laughter died down some. "Well I guess that was sort of mean, but it was pretty funny back then."

"Oh we got in big trouble. Larry's mom caught us and tore us all a new one, then made Miles cookies." Nick chuckled. The more he thought back on old moments the less angry he felt towards Miles. It just wasn't in the man's nature to tell people what was going on in that head, and sometimes Nick wasn't even sure if he wanted to know.

"I really hope not." Nick muttered and made his way back to Miles' room.
Miles had already fallen asleep. Phoenix was about to turn and leave when Miles opened one eye.
"I'm not sleeping." Miles informed him. Nick turned around.
"Look, I just wanted to-"
"Thank you." Miles interrupted him. Nick was sent into shock. After some time of being stared at by a mouth agape Nick, Miles decided to speak for him. "You're welcome."
"Right! You're welcome." Nick smiled. Then he laughed.
"What?" Miles lifted a thin gray eyebrow.
"Miles Edgeworth has a heart. Tell me, how did you manage to steal it from the tin man?"
"Very funny, Phoenix." Miles muttered. Nick was very amused.

"I just wanted to apologize for snapping at you. You've had a worse day than me, I was just feeling selfish is all." Nick explained after some silence. "I'm just so frustrated about all this and...well I guess you are too. And probably tired." Nick half stepped out of the room. "Thanks for the thanks, I'm just going to let you sleep a while." He smiled. "And don't worry about that girl pressing charges. Mia and I will prove to everyone that she's just a total nutcase!"
"SHE'S WHAT?!" Nick heard Miles thunder as she walked out. He decided to just keep walking before he said anything else stupid.

"I thought he knew already." Nick scratched the back on his head. "I mean, he's usually on top of these kinds of things." He shrugged. "We have to prove that Miles didn't beat her...well I know he did, but he had to. He was defending himself and all scared. It was like looking at an old stray cat. She had to have made him that way. Mia stood up, "I agree. Miles isn't the type to lash out unless he was not in control of himself. Those drugs that were in his system weren't there by accident, and that's what I'm going to have to prove...if Miles will let me take the case that is."

"Uh...no...I better not. I might kill him." Nick laughed. "I think I'm going to just go home, actually. I have a lot of work to do and I've been putting it off." Nick stood there unmoving for a while. He was debating just how he should say good bye. Was this a date? Was he supposed to kiss her? Or maybe a hug would be more appropriate. Or would she be offended if he touched her at all? After all, a lot of drama happened between icecream and now.

"Of course!" Phoenix turned and waved as he walked out. He had a big bright smile on his face.

Miles was buried deep into his thoughts. So much so that Mia's mere presence in his room was not enough to pull him from them, nor was saying his name that effective. He had to try and remember events more clearly. There was something that he knew could prove his claims of innocence, but the image taunted him and jumped away when he brushed the tips of his fingers against it.

Miles didn't make an exclamation of surprise or pain from being hit. Instead his eyes rolled up towards her in a cold glare.

Mia sighed and spoke as though talking to an especially slow child, "Miles, do you KNOW how bad self-defense looks? Particularly in a case like this. It'd be better for your case if you let someone else handle the defense."

The two continued to stare in silence. Miles with his incredulous glower and Mia with her reprimanding gaze. It was Miles that eventually gave in. He sighed and looked off to the side.
"I'll never hear the end of this if I don't let you, will I?" He grumbled.
