Case 2 - Random Case with Apollo
Case 3 - Apollo uses fake evidence(unknowingly), still end up with 'Not Guilty' but is suspended from court. Prosecutor is von Karma.
Case 4 - Phoenix's suspension is lifted, and he got his badge back, but refuses to go in court. Later visits Kurain and Maya is accused again (Morgan Fey released at this point). Phoenix asks apollo to defend but he can't. Phoenix then goes back being a lawyer to save maya. Case won. Later opens up his office again. Maya returns as part-time manager.(still goes back to kurain from time to time)
Case 5 - Phoenix is accused. Apollo gets his badge back and defends phoenix. Case has some connection with phoenix's suspension from the past. Prosecutor is Edgeworth. in the end, case is won and Phoenix's name is officially cleared.

I think that something like all the Great Characters returning Should be something Saved for a Grande Finale of the Entire series.
Like, by GS8 there is a Giant Over-Aching Plot from ALL the Ace Attorney games, then in like, GS26, RIGHT when the Protagonist is about to Die or something because of the real Murderer an Attorneys Badge HITS the Murder Weapon knocking it out of the way saving the Protagonist and then the Camera Zooms over to who threw the Badge and the Light shines Bright and you can only see a silhouette to who threw it, and it would be like, Phoenix or Apollo(because they would be old characters by GS26) and then that would be like, the inspiration for that Protagonist, and s/he becomes a defense Attorney.
And this Particular Character would only be the Protagonist for GS26 since its like, the Grande Finale, and then by this Point the Games have Strayed a bit from the Investigate-Courtroom-Investigate Game play, and the Plot involve SOME Sort of Action like, instead of just Exposing that HE'S the Murderer, you find out HE'S the Murderer, AND HE'S ABOUT TO KILL SOMEONE! Then you Run to the Place where its gonna happen and we get treated to a Cut-scene of Protagonist Wrestling down the Murderer or something, then before he gets killed he gets saved by a Combo team of Returning characters in one of those "OH NOES! DX huh? ._.? YOU! :D" Type things, The True Deadly Organized Crime thing or whatever is Arrested and then the FINAL Artwork would be some sort of Giant Artwork of all the NOT-Evil Characters from all the 26 games or something you know?
Basically I'm saying if you want Characters to return you should wait until Later in the series when it will be More EPIC.
A Good idea for GS5 though would be to introduce a Over-Arching plot that would span Mystery's into GS6 and so on until by the time it DOES end it would all be solved and stuff.
NOW THAT WOULD BE EPIC AND AWESOME!

That's a really good idea - like Nick in 2-4, Apollo could learn "what it means to be a lawyer" through this case and I think this could make a good finale for GS5.

I don't think Phoenix could cut it as a prosecutor. But that's just me.

Yeah, but then he decides that his place is as a prosecutor. It doesn't fit with the canon story line for Edgeworth to become a defense attorney. I also agree that it makes little sense for Phoenix to become a prosecutor. Unlike Edgeworth, who at least had a background in defense, Phoenix has none in being a prosecutor. Besides it seems like he's already set up as Apollo's mentor by the end of GS4 so if he returns to being a lawyer (as I hope he does), he'll likely still be a defense attorney.

I know, I know. That's why I said there was slim chance, probably not even worth mentioning anymore (or really at all). It was just a little idea I thought of on a whim. I didn't expect people to rag on me about it or actually take it even a little seriously.
On another thing, I also wonder what the reason for Apollo himself for becoming a defense attorney himself. He puts a whole lot of determination it looks like in his work, so what motivates him? An event in his background? Maybe something to do with his father? Maybe his father was wrongfully executed and Apollo then decided to become a defense attorney? Or maybe not.
When updates for GS5 come out, I'll probably be busy spoiling myself silly.

Now that I definetly can see working well. It settles alot of things. It brings back a good chunk of the old cast, but not focusing completely on them, they're just there to do what they can, while apollo, and the new cast (maybe with the "help" from edgeworth) have to stick it out on their own, and figure it out, without nick providing help/advice. Not only would this be a great chance to develope Apollo's character, but also helps him prove in his own way that he's no longer "a rookie defense attourney." (I realize that he was a rookie in game 4, but I truly don't feel hes grown enough yet.)
