Image I fixed the background. You have to go to each frame and remove the white. You also have to tell each layer to replace the previous ones.

Also, I'm just going to throw in this trophy "smilie" I made. I don't know if they'll want to use it but it's worth a shot!Image

The Lotta smiley has ears, earrings, a nose and is generally very detailed. It is good as an image, but as a smiley? It looks suspiciously like you resized and recoloured the sprite.
How many of the current smileys have noses and ears? Why do you think that is?

Fell for the trap, thanks Donald, right, where do I start.

Igarashi has a bright red nose, hence needed.
The early phoenix ones aren't great and the nose contributes to that.
Mo has a clown nose, hence is a vital feature/
Shoe and Missile are animals, and they ARE resized profile pics.
Gant... where is his nose? I made part of the base with this one, and I can tell you, even at 1600x zoom, there is no nose.

OK! I think we need to collect all the new smilies for submission together and put them in a single post, like the last time. We've waited long enough, I think. :D

I don't know that more "realistic" smilies are such a bad thing. I'm sure they didn't actually resize a sprite. Anyway, I like this Lotta one.

The fact of the matter is that they have them. (I thought I could see one on the Gant one but I'll take your word for it.)
You try making one without the nose. I want to see how you think it should look.

You think the smiley list should be revised a bit? You know, organize them and remove any unneccessary smilies.

Shut up.

Compare the two and see which one you prefer. As for the reason smilies don't usually have ears or noses, it's because they're normally too difficult to draw properly on an image that size without wrecking the clarity of the image. On rare occassions they have to be there or the sprite doesn't look right.

Image

If you removed the ear here, it would make the hair look ridiculous... I mean, more-so than it already does, but at least this way it actually resembles the original character.

Image

The critical elements of the original animation - the facial expressions, the hair and headband, the hand movements and the seed box - were lifted and used as a base to make this animation; however, Victor looked absolutely ridiculous without his trademark chin and the hair looked odd without the ear, so I drew them back in manually.

Whenever it makes the final product look better, not worse, particularly when it's a key element of the character's features, you have to include it or you make an inferior product. It's as simple as that.

Wooster said that he doesn't have the time right now to do that. Plus he said he has over 200 smilies if I'm correct. That would take allot of work. It would be nice, but not life or death.
If I could organize them I would. I have the time and wouldn't mind. But I can't. So it's just something we have to live with.

You're far too picky. Chop off his chin and you'll see what I mean; there really isn't any other way to do a decent Kudo smily with facial features that distinct. :P

Anyway, this leads me to my original point, which got glossed over earlier: at this point we should put together in one post all the smilies to be submitted for Wooster's benefit; that way he doesn't have to trawl through month-old posts to find everything.

If no-one has any objections, I'll collect them all together myself.

Hehe, I don't think that will be necessary donald, after all. We wouldn't want to keep any unnecessary smilies.

And I'm not being too picky, and I know from experience that you only improve by listening to criticisms and working on them. Look, this still looks like him but looks like a smiley. It's about knowing how much detail to add, and what to leave out. :igarashi:

If I were to do a Lotta of that kind, in response to Donald, I would make it look like this. Hair from sprite, face completely scratch. No nose, no ears.
Image

It isn't perfect cos I rushed it a bit, the mouth could be a little better, But I hope it shows that you don't need a nose in smileys.

Yes! We need to get all the new smilies together. I would do it but I'm afraid of getting 500 posts in a row because of errors.

I do this kind of thing for fun; I'm not really interested in becoming especially skilled at it, but by doing enough of them that'll happen anyway. As for this: :igarashi: ...his face is far too round for my liking; it looks like him but it doesn't at the same time. In fact, that smily bothered me so much it's why I made mine in the first place. XP

On the other hand, Elise turned out great with just the basic circle; for me whether to stick with the circle or not depends on the shape of the original character's head, and when it comes to Ace Attorney most of them are pretty standard; Victor is not.

Now that the forum is behaving, I'll see to sorting out the collection for submission.

EDIT: Moved to later post.
