"The Hotti Clinic." Mia sighed as the taxi started off. "Well, this case has gone from confusing to completely illogical." She leaned back in her seat and looked at Phoenix's physical state critically. "You are getting those injuries checked out, you know."

"Injuries?" Nick looked down at his bloody muddy self. He pulled at one of the particularly larger stains on his hoodie. "I'm not sure this is all mine." He was tempted to pull up the shirt and check, but decided against it for the sake of decency. He winced some when he started to feel the pain numbing in the back of his head. "We're going to the hospital now, right?" He asked as he gingerly touched where the pain was and pulled back his hand to reveal that some of the warm wetness rolling down the back of his neck had in fact been blood. "That should be hurting a lot more..." He muttered in concern.

Mia moved over to get a better look and gingerly touched the back of his head. "You probably have a concussion. It looks pretty bad too, you're lucky you're still conscious." She bit her lower lip. "I'm sorry. You got this because you happened to be with me..."

"That's okay. I don't mind." Nick said with a smile. "I've been hit by worse things." He admitted. "One time Larry and I were walking his girlfriend's dog at the park and then he told the waiter that the pie we'd ordered was still cold." Nick's nose scrunched up in concern. "Wait...I think I said that wrong..."

Mia stared at him for a moment before chuckling slightly. "It's a good thing we're taking you down to the hospital, Phoenix. Hopefully a concussion is the worst injury you have form this."

"It probably is." Nick shrugged.

The ride to the hospital was a quick one considering the rain and the traffic. Phoenix could walk on his own pretty well, so there was no need to lead him inside, but he did seem to have some trouble filling out his medical information. After some time of chewing up their pen the nurse gently took the clipboard from him.
"You can finish this later." She said softly and ushered him towards check-up.

After a little time the doctor came out to speak with Mia.
"Mr. Wright is fine. He's got a small concussion and a few bruises. He might be a little out of it for a while, but it will pass." He informed her as Nick walked out with a freshly bandaged head and a smile. "He should be fine to go home."
"Ms. Fey." A nurse walked up to her with a note in her hand. "I have this message for you." She gave Mia the note and smiled.

The note read:
Sorry again for the unnecessary barbarics. Sometimes my men can get a little exuberant. I've told the doctor that Mr. Wright's bill is on my tab and that he is to get the finest pain killers available.
Monty

"I stubbed my toe on the way out here and I couldn't even feel my legs!" Nick announced happily.

Mia frowned at the note, but folded it up and tucked it into the pocket of her coat. She could deal with that later. She looked at Phoenix as he came over with one eyebrow raised. "How much pain killer did they give you?"

"Uh, it was yellow." Nick didn't quite seem to understand the question.
"He should be fine in a few hours." The doctor informed her before moving on to helping another patient.
"Why would you want to know what number it is?" Nick asked. "Oh wait...one. Yeah." He held up two fingers, looked at them with crossed eyes, then pulled down one of the fingers.

Mia sighed and rolled her eyes. "Come on, we're catching a taxi so I can get you back to your place before you do something that will mortify you later." She grabbed one of his arms and started to lead him out of the clinic.

"I have a prescription." Nick fumbled about in his dirty pockets as he tried to find the paper. "The doctor drew me a duck." He told Mia once he found the paper and showed it to her. "I think I prefer ice in my drinks." His eyes narrowed in frustration. "Ugh, it's not working right. I meant that the prescription is for ducks on ice." At that point he just gave up trying to speak.

Mia decided asking for clarification at this point would just make things worse. She took the prescription from him and pocketed it, if for no other reason than to make sure that Phoenix didn't lose it in his current condition. "Let's just get you back home first, alright?"

Detective Draco's eyes arched in interest. An assistant. So that was the girl mentioned in the report.

"Yes," he agreed. "That would give her a motive for arson." He wrote down the info in his pad, making a note to question the girl later on. "One more thing," he added. "Your 'supposed' wife indicated she did not wish to press charges against you." He added 'supposed' to show he had his own doubts about the story, dispite Melissa's sincerity. "As for the arson, Sgt. Valerie Hawthorne is heading the investigation to find out what has happened.

Meanwhile, at Edgeworth and Son Law Office....

"Hm," Valerie mumbled, checking over every investigator at the scene. This was becoming a nussance. For the most part, there is nothing but ashes all around, with not traces or clues in sight. He noticed Gumshoe by the desk, and noticed that it was not damaged as much by the fire than anything else.

"Detective Gumshoe," she stated, looking at the desk. "Have you examined this desk yet?"

[OOC: No problem, Ben! We got some good rp going while we waited for ya. Sorry about all the pages to read.]

"Good." This was the best news Miles had heard all day. "I suppose then I should inform Ms. Fey I won't be needing her services on that." Miles looked over at the nurse coming in.
"You're free to go, Mr. Edgeworth. We just need you to fill out some of the information that your friend missed."
"My friend." Miles repeated. "Phoenix Wright?"
"Yes! The one with the pointy hair. Poor thing, got brought him himself just a minute ago. He looked like he'd taken a beating." The nurse replied.
"He what?!" Mile shot upright. "Pardon me, Detective." Miles pulled the needle from his arm before the nurse had a chance and was about to walk into the hall before he realized he had no pants. He quickly grabbed his long black coat and slipped it over himself before he rushed out the door.

He'd caught up with the two just as they were heading for the exit.
"Phoenix! What the hell is this?! I just get OUT of the hospital and you get brought IN?!" He fumed. Nick turned around in surprise. Then he tackled the man with a hug. Miles was utterly surprised. He even held up his arms as if a bomb had just been attached to him and if he moved or touched it it would explode.
"EDGY!" Nick squealed.
"Good lord. What do they have you on?"
"Ducks!" Nick answered happily.
"What?" Miles lifted an eyebrow.
"You have on no pants." Nick observed as he let go.
"Of course not." Miles said in such a way that any normal man would have thought he were an idiot for wearing pants. Nick on the other hand looked so happy he could cry.
"Aw! You really do love me!" It was unclear as to whether or not Nick understood that Miles was just too worried to bother putting them on before he ran out.
"Yes...well..." Miles stumbled over the pile of broken logic Nick had spilled at his feet. "Get this man home." He commanded Mia. "Before he embarrasses himself."

Mia grabbed Phoenix's arm, giving Miles a slightly exasperated, yet amused, look. "That's just what I was going to do, actually. I figured he needs to be somewhere that he won't publicly humiliate himself." Mia paused for a minute, her expression sobering. "I want to meet you at my office later. We need to talk, Miles."

(On the other side of the pancake...)

Gumshoe started and turned around to give Valerie a jumpy sort of half salute. "No, sir, I haven't examined the desk yet. I was just going to though, as my section of the crime scene contained no evidence."

"Of course." Miles turned and walked back towards his room.
"Miles is my best friend." Nick said happily. "I should really think about making new ones." He added as he was led out. "Wow, the sun is really pretty." He observed. The rain had stopped while they were inside and now some fresh sunshine was glistening down from the thinning clouds.

Mia sighed and fished out her cell phone to call a taxi. After a minute or two on the phone she turned back to Phoenix. "The taxi'll be here in a minute or so, Phoenix. I'll take care of that prescription, so when we get back to your place you're going to stay there, alright?"

Shelbie stayed in her apartment that whole day. She felt disturbed by the events. 'What will happen? What is happening?!' She thought to herself, as she stared out the window in her apartment, out to the streets. "But I'm guessing some answers are better left unanswer." Shelbie mummbled to herself, she she crossed her arms going back into thought, which sometimes isn't really normal for her.

Odd, Draco thought. Very odd. He observed the situation that transpired at a distance, listening in on the conversation. He noticed the bruises on Mr. Wright's face and arms, and wondered what had happened to him to end up like that.

His thoughts came back to the case at hand. He had a lead, Mr. Edgeworth's aid. She would have ample motive after being let go. However, he found it quite odd that someone would burn down an office just for being let go. Best to have that girl some in for questioning.

When Edgworth returned to the room, Draco met him halfway. "Mr. Edgeworth, if you remember anything at all, anything important, be sure to contact us. We'll be in touch." He nodded and made to leave. Once outside, he took a moment to observe the woman and Mr. Wright. He eyed Mr. Wright rather peculiarly, then shook his head. Drugs have strange affacts on people.

He paused for a moment. Drugs....there was drugs in Edgeworth's system according to what Mr. Wright said.

He went back into the clinic, up to the desk. "Excuse me," he asked the nurse. "Could I get in touch with the doctor that had examined Mr. Edgeworth last night?"

(on the other side of the french toast)

Valerie nodded. "Good. Let's see if we can't find anything here," She stated as she pulled on her latex gloves. She tends to handle any evidence herself, after what happened several month ago when she worked with Gumshoe.

Mia gently pushed Phoenix off as the taxi pulled up, blushing slightly. "Alright, let's go."
Mia made sure Phoenix was in before climbing in as well and giving the taxi driver the directions to Phoenix's apartment.

(On the other side of the pancake...)

Gumshoe made a bit of a face at Valerie as she examined the desk. He'd been practically useless today and he wanted to do SOMETHING. Clearing his throat, he decided to say as much. "Sir, I haven't been much help on the investigation here today. I'd like to at least HELP you examine the desk..."

Valerie hesitated a bit before she spoke. "Um, well. You see Gumshoe....I..." Come on, give him a break. He loves doing this stuff. She sighed. "...alright detective. See what you can find out." She backed off from the desk, but kep her eyes shap on Gumshoe in case he does something....Gumshoe-like.

Nick gave a happy little sigh and leaned up against Mia as the taxi started. He was asleep by the time they got to his apartment and Mia had to lead his groggy body to the elevators by his hand. Taking him up the stairs might have only caused more injuries at this point. He wobbled into his room with a sort of sleepy half eyed stare and fell face first onto his couch.

Meanwhile Edgeworth was now fully dressed, had finished his papers, and was calling his own taxi home.

Mia dug around the messy apartment for a couple of minutes until she found one of the blankets she'd used the night before and covered Phoenix's sleeping form. She then slipped out of the apartment as quietly as she could and called for another taxi as she walked down the stairs. The taxi was waiting by the time she'd made it out of the building and she quickly gave directions to the mechanics where she'd had her car towed. The sooner her own car was up and running the better.

(On the other side of the pancake...)

Gumshoe grinned and slid on his own latex gloves before rumaging around in the desk for anything useful. The desks lower drawers contained recent case files, and gumshoe carefully pulled them out in order for later examination. Other than that, there was nothing of any relevance to the case.

Nick grunted into his couch cushion when his cellphone went off. His arm swung over and pulled it from his pocket, then after a couple of failed attempts he opened it and had it next to his ear.
"Hffo." He muffled. Nick grunted and turned his head just enough to expose his mouth. He would have needed to breath again anyway. "Hello?" One eye peeled open and he forced himself to sit up. "Hi Larry." He was going to scratch the back of his head, but there was a bandage in the way. "No, I 'aven't 'ad uh chance." He slurred as he tried to wake himself up more. "Sumb'dy hit me on the head with a pipe." He answered. "'M okay. Mia took me to the hosp't'l." He could really only get one of his eyes to open all the way. "Is'soke you kin stay there. I'll jus' pick it up in the mornin'." Nick slipped back down on the couch. "Eeeheeheee, no we di'n'." His eyes started to close again. "Oh yeah? How'd tha' go?" After a minute or two his arm slipped down from his head and he was asleep again.

Miles rode solemnly in the back of the cab. Mia had mentioned wanting to speak with him earlier. He may as well get that meeting set up now. He was about to be very busy dealing with the insurance company. He dialed her number on the phone and waited for her to answer.
"Ms. Fey? What time did you want to meet?"

Mia just finished up over at the mechanics (luckily they'd had the parts to get her car running, but it had definitely hurt her wallet) and was walking out to where her car sat in the place's parking lot when her phone went off. She quickly quickly pulled it out, and answered it after recognizing Miles' number. "Hi Miles...I'm not doing much today, so whenever you're available will work fine."

The taxi pulled up to the courthouse which currently had Miles' car sitting in its parking lot.
"I'll be going to the office to assess the damage." Miles informed her as he got out. "After I'll be filing insurance. You may want to meet before then." He walked swiftly into the parking lot. The sight before him made him drop his cellphone.
"Hello, honey bear." Melissa smiled and tilted her head to the side. She held up a basket that she had in her hands. "I thought you might like to go on a picnic. I packed your favorite!"

Gears clicked and whirred in his head as he stared at the moment. The moment of stun faded as the cogs fell into place. Miles curled his hands into fists so tight that it made his knuckles whiten.
"What the HELL is wrong with you?! First you KIDNAP me! Then you DRUG me! Then you threaten to CHARGE ME WITH ABUSE! NOW YOU'RE AT MY CAR SAYING YOU WANT TO GO ON A PICNIC?! ARE YOU INSANE?! WHY WOULD YOU THINK I'D EVER WANT TO BE ALONE WITH YOU?!" He raged. A few court workers heading towards their cars decided to go back into the building.
"I know you didn't really want to hit me, Miles. I just...I'm just trying to-" Melissa teared up.
"YOU'RE A FUCKING LUNATIC! YOU NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP!" Miles stormed over to his car, grabbed her by her arms, picked her up, and put her down so she'd be out of his way. As he started to get in he could feel her hand grasp his wrist. His heart skipped a beat and flashes of the past blurred days passed his eyes. His intention was to yank his hand away, but she was still holding onto his wrist and instead her body slammed into his. To his horror she desperately started to kiss him, and when he pushed her off she fell hard onto the ground. Melissa started to tear up again.
"W-why are you doing this, honey bear?" She asked timidly. Her eyes brimmed with tears. Miles just got into his car and slammed the door behind him. He gripped the steering wheel tightly and stared directly ahead of himself. He didn't even bother to crank the car.

Mia quickly turned off her phone got into her own car. After hearing that exchange (albiet a bit fuzzy) she know she needed to get over to where Miles was. After running over the most likely locations where he'd have left his car, she decided to check over at the courthouse first.

Melissa was gone by the time Mia arrived, but Miles was still staring through the windshield with a firm grip on the steering wheel and a horrified look on his face. He jumped when she tapped his window, but he cleared his throat and blanked his face when he rolled it down.
"Ah, you've decided to meet now. This parking lot is a bit dingy. How about we go talk somewhere outside in the open with a lot of people. The park maybe." He offered. "We should take your car, mine is a touch low on gas at the moment." He got out but had to lean against his door for a moment. His legs were shaking and about to give way. After he'd collected his full composure he stood tall and put on the world's most fake smile. "After you, Ms. Fey."

The smile broke and he sighed.
"That contemptible woman was here." Miles admitted and leaned against his car again. "She wanted to go on a picnic of all things." He crossed his arms and rolled his eyes. "Satisfied? May we go now? It isn't as if I have all day."

Mia let the last, rather sarcastic, statement slide and gestured to her car. "Alright, let's get going. There's quite a bit I have to fill you in on anyways." A slight smirk crossed her face. "But you might want to pick up your cell phone before we leave."

Miles glanced over at where he'd dropped it. Without a word he picked it back up and slipped it into the pocket inside his blazer. He followed Mia to her car and got in. He continued the silence as she drove. His thoughts were on different things. What to expect when he saw the charred remains of his office. When he should get a restraining order on the woman who's successfully made his week a living hell. He closed his eyes when his mind flashed back to events and he swallowed as his face got just a shade more pale. He just wanted this whole debacle to be over.

Mia pulled her car up to parking lot just behind the park and turned off the car before tapping Miles on the shoulder. "We're here." She didn't even wait for a response as she exited the car and leaned against the frame.

Miles didn't open his eyes until he'd gotten out of the car and would absolutely need them to see. He jumped when he thought he saw Melissa waving at him from a distance, but it just turned out to be a girl of similar build with similar hair that was waving to some other fellow who she hugged when he walked up to her. Miles rubbed his eyes and grunted softly.
"Could we make this quick, Ms. Fey?" He requested grumpily and started a brisk walk towards the nearest set of benches.

"Well, ExcuuUUUUuuuse me for trying to give you some info pertinent to your case." Mia made a face at him. "Phoenix and I didn't deal with mob thugs this morning just so you could sit there and be rude about it."

"What?" Miles let go of his nose and looked at Mia with mild surprise. "What does the mafia have to do with this?" His expression switched to something similar to a disappointed and concerned father. "What has Nick gotten into." He closed his eyes for a moment to correct himself. "No, what has Larry gotten Nick into?"

Mia sighed and rand a hand through her hair. "Larry has nothing to do with it, they wanted to talk to me. About your case no less. It was...odd to say the least. Phoenix ended up fighting three of the thugs while I was forced into accepting their boss' 'assistance'." Mia pulled the note she'd received in the hospital out of her pocket and handed it to Edgeworth. "The boss then preceded to offer us a ride, and after we declined, paid Phoenix's hospital bill." Mia's eyes narrowed. "What ties do you have to these guys, Miles, that they would be so willing to go out on a limb for you?"

"I have no idea. I've never dealt with any mob types before." Miles' eyes narrowed and he took the note. He read the name at the bottom several times before something clicked for him. He took out his cellphone and dialed. "Dad? Do you remember Montgomery Beluciano?" He got right to the point. "Well apparently he's helping out with my predicament. Now why would that be?" Miles' face grew grimer by the second. "Dad! I do not want to hear about the TV stations they have in Hawaii! Just answer my question!" A few more seconds rolled past and Miles snapped his phone shut without even saying good bye. "Useless old man." He grumbled.
