"I'm more worried about jail." Nick muttered. "Miles can handle himself in a fight just fine..." His steps were quick and a little jagged. This head ache of his was just getting worse and it felt like his feet were further away from his body than they should be. It was a bit of a strange sensation and one that distracted him enough to nearly walk past the bar. If Mia hadn't stopped he might not have. There was an alley on the left side of the building and a rather hefty man was being thrown into the wall from behind the building. Nick ran up the alley and with a rather frantic look in his eyes spotted Miles weaving and bobbing around hefty man number two. His opponent couldn't quite get a punch in until Nick yelped out Miles' name. Miles stopped for a second to look at Nick right as a left hook caught him in the jaw. Hefty man number one was running back into the fray, but all the cogs ans gears in Nick's head that had been creaking and sputtering since the phone call finally cracked. He stomped directly into the fight, grabbed Miles by his cravat, and swung him onto the nearest wall himself. "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" He snapped. Miles and the hefty men were equally as confused by this, but Miles even looked a little frightened.

Mia quickly took advantage of the confusion and started trying to get Phoenix and Edgeworth out of the alley before the two bulky men decided to beat the snot out of them. She hissed in Phoenix's ear, "Save your anger for when there aren't two Hulk hogan wannabes standing next to us."

"If they want to take on a girl, an injured guy, and a fop then-" Nick turned to Mia with tears welling in his eyes. He let go of Miles and turned towards the two men. When he narrowed his eyes at them the tears had a chance to roll down his face. "Whatever the hell he did to piss you off I swear to god it holds no candle to what he's just done to me." Nick growled through clenched teeth. "You want to beat him up? Fine, but you get to have him when I'm done. UNDERSTAND?" He barked. The hefty men decided that this would be a good time to walk back into the bar. Miles still looked pretty frightened when Nick face him with the fury of the nine hells behind his eyes. "Picking fights at a bar?" He growled and pinned Miles against the wall with his arm so that he couldn't get away. "What's WRONG with you?! Why?! Why would you even THINK that this would be a good idea?! You were already almost charged for abuse and now this?!" Nick had to stop a moment to breath. "Miles isn't a violent man, I thought. No way he could have actually hurt that girl. She must've fell. He says she was crazy, maybe she did it to herself! HELL! MAYBE SOMEONE BROKE IN THERE! BEAT HER UP! AND FUCKING LEFT! I WAS WILLING TO BELIEVE ANY OF IT MILES! ANYTHING YOU WANTED TO TELL ME WAS THE TRUTH ONCE YOU FIGURED IT OUT! WHY?! WHY WOULD YOU GO AND PULL SOMETHING LIKE THIS NOW?! TELL ME WHY?!" Nick had to stop and breath again. Miles swallowed.
"They were roughing up a girl in there." Miles tried to conjure up his stone cold face, but it just wasn't working. "It was the only way I could get them to leave her alone." Nick looked Miles in the eyes very intensely for some time before letting him go.
"I'm sorry, Miles, but I...I just can't believe you right now." Nick walked away.
"Oh god." Miles slid onto the ground and held his head. Nick stepped back into the alley.
"Well are you coming or not?" He asked grumpily.
"What?" Miles looked up at him.
"Well I can't just leave you here, can I? You might go and do something else stupid." He turned around. "I'll get us a taxi." He said before stepping in front of the building.

Mia silently moved to help Miles up and out to join Phoenix. The latter's outburst had surprised her, as Phoenix had never yelled in her presence before. Still, everyone did have their breaking point and considering the past couple of days she shouldn't have been surprised, but she was.

"Um...I'm sorry." Nick apologized when Miles and Mia caught up with him. Which one it was to was hard to tell. "I shouldn't have blown up like that." He couldn't look either of them in the eye, so he opted for a rock on the pavement. "Do...would you mind, Mia, maybe...taking Miles home for me? I just remembered there's something I gotta do." He muttered.
"I can get myself home." Miles replied coolly.
"No...apparently you can't..." Nick said darkly. Miles didn't really have a response for that other than to get in the cab that pulled up.

Mia shook her head, not making eye contact with Phoenix either. She'd never admit to it, but she was disconcerted by the display she'd just witnessed. "I don't mind taking Miles back to his apartment." She paused for a moment before awkwardly saying goodbye and climbing into the cab after Miles.

Nick didn't have anything to do, he just didn't want to have to talk to anyone for a while. His sudden bout of anger had left him more than a little jarred. He couldn't even remember a day in his life where he'd just screamed like that. He was even seconds away from punching Miles in the face. He was more upset with himself than with Miles anyway. Nick sat down on a bench and stared up at the sky. How could he have let his emotions just build up to the point he'd explode like that? Maybe it was just the stress, or the head ache, but whatever it was he didn't want it to happen again.

Miles stared uncomfortably at the back of the taxi driver's seat. He was still a bit stunned from earlier. Never in his life had he imagined Phoenix, the most patient happy guy in a world, to just blow up over something this trivial. He couldn't help but think that maybe his friend was taking all of this harder than anyone. It would make some sense. Phoenix always did react too strongly to things. So he stopped for a few drinks before he went to see the charred remains of his father's office? It was a reasonable thing to do for a man in his position. And those men weren't about to leave that poor woman alone. If he hadn't stayed as long as he did there's no telling what might have become of her.
"Hmph." Miles shifted his stare from the chair to out the window.

Mia looked over at Miles. She didn't really want to start a fight with him, considering the way things had gone the other night, but at the same time, she knew anything she said at this point would come out as an accusation. Miles had behaved poorly, but after the verbal lashing he'd gotten from Phoenix, there really wasn't anything relevant to add. Her own thoughts would only make things worse. Sighing she slouched a bit in the seat and stared at the back of the seat in front of her, her mind in a thousand places away from the cramped cab.

When the cab pulled in front of Nick's apartment Miles got out. He'd managed to get his cold expressionless face back during the ride, and if not for the weaving steps he was taking one might have even though he was sober. He was pretty deep in thought all the way to the elevator and on the ride up, but when he made it to the room his cold face cracked and he slammed his hand against the still closed door for some balance.
"I really screwed up." He grumbled. "Nick'll come back, he'll say he forgives me, but he won't mean it...he might not ever mean it again...he'll smile and try to look happy for me but...god I'm such a weak pathetic man."

Mia stood behind Miles. She'd followed him up after paying the cab fare to make sure he got in and didn't decide to go off and get even more drunk. Her tone was quiet, and surprisingly without any accusatory inflection. "He worries about you, Miles, more so than I think you realize. What possessed you to go get drunk and pick a fight? After everything that's happened in the past couple of days I would have thought that would have been the last thing to cross your mind..."

"The insurance papers were at my apartment." Miles explained, still leaning against the door with his palm. "I walked past the bar and thought that maybe a drink would help get the edge off. I knew that girl wouldn't be stupid enough to break into my house but...well I just..." He sighed. "It worked so well for Nick after the trial when my dad showed up with tequila. The two sat and drank and talked and eventually Nick just poured his heart out and my dad listened, gave some sage advice, and the next day it was like he was magically better after months of moping around at my place." Miles let his head thunk against the door. "All I've done is make things worse."

Miles sighed and fumbled with the keys he pulled out of his pocket. He was trying to get to the one to Nick's apartment by using one hand, but his dexterity wasn't really with him at the moment. He ended up dropping the keys and letting them sit on the floor for a while.
"You don't have to baby-sit me." Miles muttered before bending down and fetching the keys. "I won't go running off or anything."

"There's nothing to say. You already know what happened." Miles wandered in and flopped onto the couch. "You remember more about it than I do, really." His face was tilted towards the ceiling which probably prompted his next words. "I missed a spot. I'll have to get to that when I can climb without fear of damaging something important."

"Feelings?" Miles was genuinely confused by this. He had to give it some real thought. "Well at the time I was heavily sedated, so that would be hard to determine, but judging by what I've been told of events I was very brassed off." He continued to stare at the ceiling as he spoke. "Seeing as how the merest thought of her face conjures up deep feelings of hatred I imagine that was probably very true."

Mia nodded. "From what I heard from Phoenix you were pretty pissed. By the time I got there you actually tried to ward him off before finally passing out. This whole situation is pretty messed up, so it's not going to have any kind of easy fix, although I won't pretend that Phoenix had it any easier."

"Phoenix had it worse." Miles said this much quicker than his other responses. "That woman courted him, convinced him that she loved him, then framed him for murder when she failed to kill him. I was just kidnapped by a crazy woman for a day." He sighed again. "I think I'm more bothered that I don't know what happened then I am at the actual kidnapping. That and she seems to either not realize she's done anything wrong, or doesn't even remember it herself..."

"Lord. I think I'd prefer if she had some strange form of selective amnesia..." Miles groaned. "I have to clean that spot." He got up and wandered over to the kitchen for supplies.

Meanwhile Nick was starting to feel much better.
"Well, I'll need to deal with this sooner or later." He shrugged and got up. "Besides, I need to change out of my suit before I have to get it dry cleaned." He started the fairly long walk to his apartment.

"It's those eyes. She just looks so..." He managed to find what he needed. "Aha! Here it is." He came in with a scrub brush, a step stool, and cleaning solution. "I know she was there. I can clearly remember her, I just don't want to believe it for some reason. It's unsettling." He went back into the kitchen and got a broom and some tap. He taped the brush to the broom so he wouldn't need to use the stool. Then went back into the kitchen again for a sponge, soaked the solution into it, threw it onto the stain, and started to scrub and it spiraled and splattered onto the table.

Mia moved to take a seat on the couch Miles had abandoned in favor of renewing his war on the dirt of the apartment. "Why is it so unsettling? I mean, you know she was there and that she was involved with the whole thing."

"Cold hard facts." Miles answered simply. "I know for a fact she was there. I saw her with my own eyes. Other people also saw her. She's clearly delusional because of her claims, and yet, despite all of that, I don't want to believe she's capable of wrong doing. She's done nothing to prove this, so why would I want to accept it as a truth?" Miles scrubbed.

"Dahlia was hardly believable." Miles rolled his eyes. "I still can't believe the judge fell for that obvious act. I'm still utterly stunned that an intuitive man like Phoenix couldn't realize it with all the time he spent with her." He sighed. "Then again he is a hopeless romantic. You know what he did the months he stayed with me after that trial? He watched sappy foreign romance films and cried about how he could never bring himself to love again." Miles' eyes didn't even glance over at the door when it opened and Nick stepped through.
"Miles, what are you-ah forget it." He chuckled softly. "I sorry about blowing up on you earlier."
"You shouldn't be. I deserved it." Miles answered bluntly. Nick wasn't exactly expecting Miles to talk so he was left without a response to it. "The important thing is that you feel better." He continued.
"Right..." Nick gave Mia a confused look. Clearly he'd never seen Miles so talkative before.

"Ah...yes...well..." Nick cleared his throat. "They were very good films."
"You forgot the part where he was crying. He did a lot of crying." Miles continued to scrub. Nick's left eyebrow twitched when he closed his eyes.

Mia chuckled and looked over at where Miles was cleaning. Deciding to bring things back on topic, Mia found her expression sobering as she spoke. "So, you don't have a problem believeing Dahlia Hawthorne was guilty but with this Melissa Parks you do? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense, Miles."

"It really doesn't." Miles finally got that spot out and started to return things to the kitchen. "But then Dahlia Hawthorne was acting. She clearly understood what she was doing and chose to manipulate those around her for her own twisted cause. After all, you and I had no troubles seeing through her facade." Miles returned to the living room and sat down next to Mia. "But you saw that girl at the park. She's clearly not acting."

Mia put a hand on his shoulder. It was a bit awkward, trying to comfort him. "But she did and you're out of there. And personally I'm inclined to think it was the natural progression of the whole thing. At this point we should just be thankful she had the lack of sense to think that setting fire to the office was a good idea."

Miles sighed, but didn't open his eyes. Nick entered the room with a fresh bandage and a big smile. It looked sort of similar to the one Miles put on when he was being nice to a client.
"I'm going to order a pizza. What does everyone want?" He offered and got out his phone.
"I'm not hungry." Miles muttered and got up. He then wandered into Nick's room.
"Great...I hope he doesn't think that's the bathroom." Nick sighed.

"Wow, really?" Nick was impressed. "I've never known him to be talkative about anything. Then again, I'm usually unconscious by the time he gets drunk." He handed Mia a pizza delivery menu so she could figure out what she wanted. He was about to sit down when there was a loud crash from Nick's room. "Um...just a sec." He gestured for her to stay there as he went to investigate. Miles was laying on the floor next to a knocked over night stand and under a basket and some clothes.
"I was going to wash those clothes I borrowed, but then I saw you had some other laundry, so I thought I'd wash those too, but I think I missed." Miles explained.
"Uh...right..." Nick righted the table and put the lamp back onto it. He was reaching for the clock when Miles grabbed his wrist.
"I am so sorry, Nick." He said sincerely.
"Nick?" The apology got trapped behind Miles using Larry's version of his name. He shook his head and got his hand back. "It's okay, Miles. I forgive you."
"No, you don't." Miles replied. "And you shouldn't. I wouldn't blame you if you never forgave me again."
"What are you talking about, Miles?" Nick set the clock back onto the table. "So you freaked out a little. I'm just happy you knew you could come to me for help. I mean, I'd rather you be here pissing me off than out getting yourself in trouble." Nick said on his way out. "Now forget the laundry and just sleep this off, okay? We're going to your office later and I want you to at least be resembling sober when get there." Nick started to close the door behind himself, but stopped midway. "You sure you don't want any pizza?" He asked, but he didn't get an answer from the unconscious Miles. "Right..." He sighed and went back into the living room. "So, what do you want?" He sounded sort of tired when he asked Mia that.

"He just knocked over my table." Nick shrugged and sat down. "So what do you want?" He leaned back and closed his eyes. The head ache was starting to get really bad now and it was souring his mood. "Order whatever you like. It's a celebration lunch." He pulled one side of his mouth up into a smile, but his forehead was crinkled up and his eyes were closed rather tightly.

Mia looked at his expression for a minute before getting up and walking into the kitchen area of the apartment. She came back over to the couch and tossed a prescription bag on Phoenix's lap. "I'll order but you take some of that. It's the prescription painkillers I picked up for you yesterday."
