Nick looked down at the bottle in his lap.
"Thanks." He got up and went into the kitchen to pour himself some juice to take it with. He came back into the living room with half a glass of grape juice that he set on the table before he sat down. "I like pepperoni." He told Mia. "And some hot wings." He added and closed his eyes again.

Mia nodded and moved into the kitchen area to order after grabbing her cell phone out of her coat pocket, so as not to aggravate Phoenix's headache. As she hung up she smirked wryly; it probably was a good thing Miles decided to go on that cleaning binge the night before or she might not have been able to find that prescription. After tucking the phone back into her coat pocket Mia sat back down on the couch. There wasn't a whole lot to do now but wait for the delivery to get there.

Nick drifted in and out of consciousness as the course of the past few days started to catch up with him. He'd seen his best friend go crazy, been beat up by mafia thugs, then completely lost nearly twenty years of patience and calm. He opened one eye and looked over at the girl sitting next to him. But he'd gotten a date with Mia, and that was good. That was very good. He couldn't help but put on a big dumb smile.

Mia noticed Phoenix's smile out of the corner of her eye. She looked over and returned the smile, although hers was a bit more sbudued. "Are those painkillers helping any, Phoenix?"

"Well my head ache is still there, but it's retreated behind my eyes." He told her softly. He opened them and looked over at her with the big smile still in place. "Maybe now things will start to settle down some." He turned his head thoughtfully towards the ceiling. "Hey, the stains are gone." He observed. "Miles really did go cleaning crazy."

Mia chuckled quietly. "He noticed the dirt on the ceiling when he was verbally assaulting the carpet sometime after I'd gotten off the Phone with Mr. Edgeworth. We assumed the stuff of the ceiling was there courtesy of Mr. Butz."

"He got bored one day and tried to stick waffles to the ceiling. Apparently the key was an odd mix of cream cheese, silly putty, and maple syrup." Nick explained. "I'd finally peeled off the last one a week ago." He cringed in the memory. "It was nice of Miles to clean up for me...a little weird...but nice. I guess I should be happy he didn't cook too." Nick chuckled. "He's not bad at it, just...well it's all French and stuff."

Mia made a face at Phoenix's description of Larry's "experiment". "That's disgusting, no wonder there were stains on the ceiling." A small smile flitted back onto her face though. "I'm not surprised Miles cooks French cuisine, he seems like the type to enjoy that kind of food."

"When he and Mr. Edgeworth got back from France that one summer he hosted this dinner party where he cooked for us." Nick smiled fondly. "We were eight, so the fanciness was sort of lost on us." He chuckled. "Mr. Edgeworth ended up ordering us all pizza afterward." He fiddled with the part of the bandage that was against his forehead. "So what about you, Mia? Any fun childhood stories to share?"

Mia worried her magatama for a minute, thinking. "Most of my childhood memories are experiences with my sister. My mother disappeared fifteen years ago, and my Aunt attempted to shelter us quite a bit, so it was just the two of us." Her smile took on a somewhat mischevious appearance. "We got into a lot of trouble, mainly because I didn't get along with my Aunt and Maya would pretty much do whatever I was doing. One of the more memorable instances was when we switched out Aunt Morgan's tea leaves with basil and she brewed and drank it. Her expression was classic."

.:.Application Form.:.
Name: Abel Scythemoon

Job: Bartender (previous job was defense attorney/prosecutor)

Appearance: A very handsome fellow, with steel-toed boots, black vest and sleeveless shirt, black jeans with chains, and jet-black hair pulled back in a pony tail, tipped with a yellow-orange color. Athletic, 6' 5" describes his body build.

Personality: A likable man, generous, but is constantly haunted by his past endeavors.

History: Abel is the youngest of the quadruplet Scythemoon family. His brothers went their seperate ways after they had gotten into a family feud, resulting in the death of their parents. The eldest brother, Damien, slowly went mad, and is now housed in an insane asylum. Below him was Damien, who is now a high criminal warlord with a slippery reputation of not getting caught. Then there's Gabriel, now an agent of the CIA. Abel's the youngest, and was a defense attorney/prosecutor, and a damned good one at that. He was shot in the courtroom during a crime trial just when he was about to put the man into jail. He survived, but strayed away from the courtroom and opened up a bar just next to it. The Talons of Justice tavern, is it's name.

Other: Abel is gravely afraid of guns.

(( If this is not acceptable, go ahead and toss it. ))
"Your honor, I OBJECT!"
"And why's that?"
"Because it's devastating to my case!"
"Overruled."
"Good call!"

Draco had check through the files that were found in the desk at he burned office, and found very little relivence to the case at hand. They came to a conclusion however, that the fire was indeed arson. The main clue was the desk itself. While everthing else was burnt to a crisp, the desk ramained mostly intact. A possible explanation was gasoline. But still, why leave the desk?

He reached for the phone, calling up Valerie. "Val, it's Draco. Listen, have you checked for fingerprints on the desk." He paused for a moment, checking his watch. After six...dammit. I'll have to cancel the reservation. "Listen, I want you to come back down to the law office, and bring the aluminum powder with the strind adhesive. It may just be a dead end. But we better check anyway....all right. I'll see you there."

He hung the phone back up and pulled on his coat, checking the watch once again and swore. He'll never get the chance to ask if this keeps up.

"I'll bet!" Nick laughed. "I never really pictured you as a hell raiser." He smiled at her fondly. Then some cogs kicked in. "Wait, was your mom Misty Fey? She helped Mr. Edgeworth on a case, didn't she? She summoned this guy and he lied about who killed him. There was a really big stink over that. Mr. Edgeworth almost lost his badge trying to prove she wasn't a fake. So she just disappeared? That's really...uh...I probably shouldn't be rambling about this, should I?" He let out a nervous laugh and shut-up.

Mia sighed. "Yes, my mother is Misty Fey. That whole incident and the media frenzy that went on after it caused my mother to disappear on us, leaving just a note. The thing about spirit channeling is that the medium has no control over what happens once they've channeled the spirit. That didn't stop anybody from claiming my mother was a fraud. The Fey family's been in such poor standing with the legal community these days, I've quite frankly been amazed my firm has stayed open as long as it has..."

"Wow, that sucks." Was really all Nick could think to say on the matter. No one close to him had ever just vanished so he couldn't really relate. Still, just the thought of his own mother running away from his family was a little jarring. "So why did you become a lawyer?" He wondered, but hadn't meant to say it aloud.

"There were a couple of reasons. One was that I didn't want to fight my sister for the title of Master of the Kurain Technique. I saw how that title caused such tension between my mother and my aunt, and I'd never want that to happen between Maya and myself. The second reason was to find the man leaked my mothers involvement in that case. I've spent a lot of time tracking him after I found out about him through extended channeling sessions. I've never been able to pin anything on him though, he's protected himself too well..."

Nick wasn't entirely sure how to take all this in. His first reaction was to just believe her, but experiance was telling him otherwise.
"I guess not. I mean, it's almost sort of like cheating isn't it? And there's nothing like summoning the dead to tell you client you don't trust them." He chuckled. Truth or not Nick didn't really care.

"Something like that, but there's also the possibility the spirit could lie to protect te real killer if it happened to be someone close to them." Mia chuckled. "It's a little less complicated to deal with things conventionally and let my sister and the other members of the Kurain technique deal with channeling."

"Sounds it." Nick looked at the door when the knock came. "Food's here!" He jumped to his feet and went to fetch it. He came back in after paying the delivery boy and giving him a nice tip with pizza boxes in his arms and a smaller box atop them. "I'm starved." He dropped the boxes onto the coffee table and went into the kitchen to fetch napkins and plates.

He and Valerie arrived at the office around six-thirty. They made their way into the heap to where the desk stood. "So, are you gonna tell me why you choose to do this now instead of this morning," Valerie asked.

"Well, Val," Draco response in mock annoyance. "Gumshoe's report never mention anything about the desk itself. It only stated that he found court files undamaged. Can't hold it against him, though." Trueth be told, he could trust no one more than he trust Gumshoe, though forgetful and clumsy as he was. "Anyway, the desk was the only thing left unscathed, if we could find any finger prints on them, match them with the data file we've got, we could determine who was here before the fire. Of course, that's assuming the arsonist did indeed touch the desk."

"There's only one way to find out, isn't there?" Valerie smiled, and pulled on her latex glove, going to work on the desk. While working, she tried to make small talk with Draco. "So, I guess our dinner's cancelled tonight, as well."

"Afraid so," Draco replied.

"Think we'll ever get reservations for that restraunt again?"

"Val, I know what you're doing, and it won't work. I'm not telling you what's been bothering me."

"Then I'll just have to pester you until your blab. You know I'll make you."

Draco stared at her with an evil eye, then sighed. "It's about that girl from the other night. Melissa Parks."

"You're using her maiden name?" She questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"I just don't believe she's actually married to this Miles Edgeworth. Call me paranoid, but I find her story hard to believe."

"It...has to do with her, doesn't it."

Draco clutched at his right shoulder, know full well the 'her' Valerie was talking about. "It's over with, Val. She's on death row now. She's a thing of the past now."

[OOC: Totally okay. Your guy is up and you can jump in wherever ya like.]

"Let him sleep. I want him as sober as possible for when I drag him to the office later." Nick's smile was almost malicious as he said that. "Collected or not people will know something is up, and if Melissa Parks decides to press charges anyway the last thing we need is for anyone to know he's been drinking." He went into the living room with plates and gave one to Mia when he passed her. "I should just let him fall into this little hole he dug for himself." He sighed.

Mia smirked as she followed him back into the other room. "It is rather tempting to let him deal with it on his own, but I don't think that'd be a good idea. This whole situation has gotten incredibly complicated and the last thing we need to do is make it worse."

"I can understand him wanting all of this to just go away." Nick said with his eyes cast upward. He pulled free a slice of pizza and flopped onto the couch. "Its a lot like those horror movies he hates." He said before rolling it up and taking a bite off the end. "But I'm just so...disappointed in him. I mean, we're not kids anymore. Scary movies shouldn't send him running to his room." Nick's tone grew aggravated, but with a deep breath he calmed down. "He probably just needs a kick start is all. Once I get him to the office grumpy old Edgey will be back and take care of everything." He dipped his pizza roll into some jalopeno cheese sauce.

Nick nearly choked on the food in his mouth. After a hard swallow and some coughing he finally spoke.
"What?! How could he not?! I mean she's clearly!" Then it occurred to him how hypocritical he was being. "That doesn't make any sense at all! He said he'd never met her before, right? He couldn't have...unless maybe he lied..." Nick's head ache was coming back. "No...no he wouldn't do that. You must have just heard him wrong."

"Abel, why lock up so early?"

"I have other things to do, Earl. Sorry man, I might open up later."

"Oh, alright then, take care."

Abel waved one of the long-time patrons goodbye and watched him leave. The man then wandered into an alley beside the eagle-shaped tavern, where his red-gold motorcycle sat. He picked up the golden bird-shaped helmet and placed it where it belonged, on his head. His mind was running rampant with business concerns, such as shipment and how much it'll cost. His motorcycle shot out of the alley and down the road, taking a drive just to clear things up and hopefully help straighten things out. It was nice...with the wind in your face.

Little did he know that someone was watching him from one of the windows, and had a rifle trained on the cycle's gas tank.

There was an loud explosion later.
"Your honor, I OBJECT!"

Mia sighed. "That's what I thought at first, but I can actually sort of understand where he's coming from. I met Melissa Parks after I'd gotten you back to the apartment. She came up while Miles and I were talking. This is very different than the whole situation with Dahlia Hawthorne, Phoenix. She was well aware of what she was doing by manipulation Doug Swallow and you, but Melissa Parks....she's psychotic and has deluded herself into believing her fantasy is reality. "

"This all just seems so surreal. I guess that's why Miles is acting so strange. He doesn't like it when something happens that he can't predict or quickly fix. He's just going to have to get over that." Nick finished his slice and went for another one. He fished out his cell when it rang. "Hello?" He said with a mouthful of pizza. "Hi, Mr. Edgeworth." He swallowed. "Yes, Miles is here." He dipped the roll into the cheese sauce again. "Not yet, sir. He planned to today." He took a bite and had a chance to chew and swallow before he had to respond. "Top drawer left hand side. Yes, sir, I'll tell him." He dipped again. "I'm fine, sir. Just a little bump on the head." Phoenix waited for a moment for something that evidently didn't happen. "Bye, Mr. Edgeworth." He shut the phone. "Huh. That was kind of weird. He was concise and to the point. Must be having a bad day."

"Well apparently he left the title to the car in a drawer at Miles' apartment...actually, now that I think about it, Mr. Edgeworth sold his car two months before he left...so really that doesn't make much sense at all." Nick looked concerned. "I'll go get Miles..." He sighed and got up.

Mia watched Phoenix go into the room where Miles was sleeping off the remains of his inebriation. The sudden call from Gregory bothered her. For him too be so buisnesslike and abrupt after most of his phonecalls since his retirement had been somewhat rambling in nature was odd. She only hoped it wasn't a sign of a bigger problem.

"But I'm not done yet." Miles was facing Nick's room as he was being pulled out by the wrist.
"You can finish color coding my socks later." Nick rolled his eyes and sat Miles down in a chair while he got his coat this time.
"Are we going somewhere?" Miles wondered.
"We've got to pick something up at your place and I can't just leave you hear by yourself. All you have to do is sit in the cab while I go get it, okay?" Nick checked his coat pockets for his gloves. He didn't put them on, he just wanted to make sure they were there.
"You do such a good job taking command, Nick." Miles told him while Phoenix pulled him to his feet. "I was a little worried at first that you might not be able to handle things."
"And shut-up." Nick said with narrowed eyes. "If people hear you rambling it'll just make things worse." Miles nodded.

Mia watched the antics of the two with amusement and concern. "Maybe I should come too. I don't think it's a good idea to leave miles by himself in this condition."

The motorcycle was in ruins; a smoldering mess of steel and fire. Abel slowly awoke to find his helmet broken, and the cycle ready to explode again, this time in a bigger blaze of glory. He managed to slip away before the cycle exploded...again.

Who did that?! The bartender was furious now. He took a wild guess at who shot the machine out from under him and at such an accurate distance. It must've been one of Damien's men. Well that was just great. Now people will be wondering what the hell happened?

Heh, like he knew.
"Your honor, I OBJECT!"
"And why's that?"
"Because it's devastating to my case!"
"Overruled."
"Good call!"

"I wouldn't want to pull you into this." Nick didn't exactly say no. He fished out his keys.
"I would appreciate it, Ms. Fey." Miles replied.
"What did I just say?" Nick sighed. "And you're starting to really creep me out."
