Chris parked the car outside the hospital, and quickly led them in. They had no time to lose.

The moment they arrived at the front desk, Chris said, "We're here to see Ms. Iris... Hawthorne, I guess."

"You guess?" asked Jade. "Do you know that girl or not?"

"Of course we know her," Chris corrected her. "It took me a minute to remember her last name. Give me a break, yeah?"

An elderly, hunched man in a white jacket called to Chris from down the hall. He ran one hand through the bright pink tuft of hair on top of his otherwise bald head as he approached; his other hand seemed to be occupied with scratching himself. When he reached the group, he removed his hand from his pants and extended it to Chris in an offer to shake while flashing a broken, yellow-toothed smile. "I'm Dr. Hotti. Can I help you?"

"Uh... hi." Chris didn't take the hand after seeing where it was. "We're looking for one Iris Hawthorne... I believe she's in this hospital?"

Jade whispered to Meghan, "Eww, that guy had his hand in his pants... gross."

For someone to actually creep Jade out... that's one hell of a shock, thought Chris instantly.

"Uhh, hmm, yes..." Dr. Hotti retracted his hand and coughed into it. He glanced at whatever he'd just left on his palm for a moment before wiping it off on the side of his coat. "Iris, Iris Hawthorne... Sounds like a flowery girl..." He chuckled at his own stupid joke. "Hmm... Nope, sorry, don't remember anyone by that name... Could you be a little more...descriptive?" Hotti's eyes danced happily over the girls accompanying Chris.

"Uh..." Man, this guy is creepier than anything I've ever seen. "Well, she has red hair and is wearing a purple outfit with a big ribbon around it. She was taken in by the paramedics not long ago, having suffered a couple of injuries and trauma."

"Why is he staring at me?" asked Jade, hiding behind Meghan. "He scares me..."

"Trust me, he scares me too," Meghan whispered back to Jade.

"OH!" The doctor dropped his fist into the palm of his other hand. "That girl! Yes, yes, right this way..." He turned and began walking in the direction he came from, beckoning the others to follow. "Sorry about that. See, I didn't get a name out of her. She's been asleep for most of the time she's been here. She just woke up a little bit ago and hasn't said much since then, either. Course, the other one's said even less... Such a shame, such a shame..." Hotti twisted his head around. "You weren't talking about the dead one, right?"

"Hohoho, no, no, of course not. We wouldn't keep living and dead patients together in the same room. What kind of hospital do you think this is?" Hotti scratched his chin, thinking. "Well, now that you mention it, there was that one time when...oh, nevermind. Anyway. I told you about not getting the girl to tell us anything, right? She just sort of lies there, off in her own world, mumbling about 'finnies' and 'dollies' or somethin'. Oh, and she's crying. She was crying in her sleep when we brought her in, too, and I guess she was crying for a while before we picked her up. I'm starting to worry 'bout her getting dehydrated or something, you know?"

The old man took a right at the end of the hallway and continued his rambling. "Haven't seen someone cry so much before. It's strange, isn't it? So I said to myself, maybe I should set up a camera. Hmm, I can't be watching her constantly, right? But the nurses tell me no no, I can't do that, invasion of privacy or some nonsense. Bah. It's purely out of concern for my patients, I said. It's part of my hypocritical oath, I said. They don't listen, mmm..."

Chris listened to the man ramble on and on. He wondered just how big this hospital really was, with all the walking they were doing. I hope she's alright... I have to find something to tell her that'll make her feel better... then again, I guess nothing will until Phoenix is found. I hope Gregor and the others find her soon...

I hope Iris is alright... and I hope Emi is too, thought Meghan as she walked behind Chris, keeping close to him.

I wonder when we're going to get out of this place and get some food! thought Jade.

"Ah, yes, yes, here we are..." Dr. Hotti stopped at a door near the end of the hall. "Thankfully her body isn't too bad off, just some cuts and bruises. She's probly pretty messed up in her head, though...hmm... I have other patients to attend to now, yes, so tell me if she starts dying or feeling sick or anything. Hmm...actually, maybe you should tell a nurse...hoho..."

The doctor cupped one hand to the side of his mouth and whispered to Chris in a voice louder than his normal speaking one. "Oh, yes, before I forget... Your friends there are quite lovely, hmm, yes... If anything unfortunate happens to them, be sure to bring them here and ask for me... I'll be sure to give them special treatment...mm, yes..." Without really waiting for an answer, Hotti spun around and hobbled off down a random corridor.

Chris didn't respond to the so-called whisper, and instead walked into the room, hoping she was at least awake at the moment.

Meghan and Jade ran ahead of him after hearing what Dr. Hotti said, now fearing what the man might do to them.

Well, he was right about one thing... she really is cut up, thought Chris.

Iris laid in the hospital bed, head slightly elevated and tilted towards the window, though she didn't seem to be looking out it, or at anything in particular for that matter. Her crimson hair was slightly damp again, brushed and unbraided, so she'd probably just gotten out of the shower. She had her hands folded loosely in her lap, and bandages were wrapped around the cuts on her arms. She seemed more pale than usual; whether that was from a possible loss of blood or simply from recent events was impossible to tell. She hadn't heard the door open, and it took several seconds for her to realize she wasn't alone in the room anymore. When she did, she turned her miserable, tear-soaked face towards the group and, seeing who had come to visit her, put forth a great effort to smile at them, but only managed to frown a little less.

Chris and Meghan stood side by side, and gave off comforting smiles. Meghan was the first to speak. "Hey, Iris. We came to see how you were doing..."

Jade decided to stay hidden behind Chris and Meghan; normally she would go and poke fun at the people Chris visited, but she didn't like doing so to hospitalized patients; even she felt saddened when she had entered and saw the cut-and-bruised Iris.

"Er, we do have some good news though..." said Chris, still feeling guilt from the Dahlia encounter. "We've received word that people are searching the banks and the surrounding areas thoroughly for Phoenix. It shouldn't be long now before they find him. Once they do, they'll call me. But for now, we came to make sure you were okay."

"T-thank you... I'm fine..." After that completely unconvincing statement, Iris slid her hands behind her, breathed in deeply, and pushed herself into a sitting position. She swung her legs off the side of the bed, took a moment to hold her head until the world stopped spinning. "I...I have to go..." she mumbled, scanning the floor for slippers.

Meghan, however, ran to her side. "He's right. You need to rest a little while longer. If you try to leave, you might end up collapsing again. We'll find him, and once we do, we'll take you right to him. Alright?"

"You went because you cared for your sister," said Chris. "It's our fault for what happened! And besides, you need to heal your wounds before you go anywhere. We have people looking for Phoenix, and it shouldn't be long before he's found."

Meghan decided to take a softer tone than Chris did, knowing that if they stopped there, it would only upset Iris worse. "Please, Iris, you have to rest. It's not your fault for what happened. Nobody knew it would end up this way, and the others are doing the best they can to find Phoenix. That river doesn't go very far before it gets shallow, so he should be found very soon. I know how you feel about the situation, but you can't go like that. You look pale, and it's not going to get any better by going outside..."

"I'm calling you Mister Lucky." Bikini laughed as she set a nice warm rag on Phoenix's head. "You take a spill like that, get fished up, and you don't break a thing and the worst you get is some bruises and a nasty bump to the head! I'm going to go make you some soup for when you wake up. You're going to be awfully sore." She hobbled over to the kitchen area.
Somehow the portly woman had managed to bring Phoenix back to her dojo, wrap him up in several blankets, and set him in front of a roaring fire. He hadn't regained consciousness, but once in a while he'd move and mutter something unintelligible. Bikini had his clothes drying next to the fire and had dressed him in channelers robes. Not really appropriate cloths for a man, but it was all she had.

Iris shut her eyes tightly. She felt like crying all over again; she'd forgotten how Chris absolutely refused to ever take no for an answer. "I can rest in the car... I lived at the temple on Eagle Mountain before I moved to campus. I can rest there if I need to..." Iris clasped her hands and dropped to one knee, pleading through watery eyes. "Please... Take me back now... I swear I won't be a burden on anyone..."

It didn't seem any real harm to take her with them, but he didn't want anything bad to happen to her, and he was sure Meghan felt the same way, as did of course Phoenix and the others. But of course, there's no danger anymore... Dahlia is...

Iris snapped her head up in suprise as something remotely resembling a smile crossed her lips for the first time since her last ride to Eagle Mountain. "Yes! Yes, yes, of course!" She got to her feet a bit too quickly and found herself nearly leaning against the wall for support, but stopped herself; Chris had just relented, so she couldn't look weak now.

She opened the door to the room quietly, poked her head out, looked both ways. "Nobody's around. Let's hurry."

Iris dashed through the parking lot to what she hoped she recognized as Chris' car; she'd only seen it once before, and briefly at that. It was amazing how they'd escaped without anyone noticing, but with Dr. Hotti running loose, maybe the hospital staff had more to worry about than a fraile girl who'd just nearly died from a forty-foot drop into the rapids taking off. She placed her hands on her knees for support and gasped for air once she'd reached the car.

"You alright?" asked Meghan as she ran to Iris' aid in case she needed support. Chris, on the other hand, quickly got Jade to get in the car, and he ran to open the other door in the back for Iris to get in.

Jade got in the car and shut the door, suddenly excited. "Alright, let's get outta here, before that creepy doctor gets out here! It's possible he saw us before we got out!"

No! Just stop! Don't you dare even think that!

Iris shook that horrible idea from her head. Worrying wouldn't help matters. Besides, she'd made a promise and thoughts like that wouldn't let her follow through with it. She closed her eyes and slumped over against the car door, then persuaded herself into a light doze.

"Hrk." Phoenix writhed in his blanket cocoon. His eyes, which since his arrival had been squeezed tightly shut, opened and he shot upright. The thick dull pain in his head sifted and settled behind his eyes and he had to close them again.
"Mr. Lucky!" Bikini wandered in with a bowl full of hot soup. "I didn't think you'd be up this quick. Boy you are a persistent fellow." She set down the bowl and picked up the cloth that he'd flung from his head when he sat up.
"I've got to go." He struggled free of his blankets and started to get up.
"Go where?" Bikini lifted a thin eyebrow at him. Phoenix wasn't entirely sure so he decided to sit down before he was really all the way up. "I brought you some soup." She picked it up and handed the bowl over.
"Uh...thank you." He mustered a smile and held the bowl to his lips. He had half the soup down pretty quickly, which was probably a bad idea since it was hot and now his tongue and throat were both scalded. He didn't mind this much since the rest of his body was nearly frozen despite the blankets and fire.
"Now how on earth did a young thing like you end up being fished out of a river?" Bikini asked with her hands rested against her hips. Phoenix thought on this a minute.
"I...I'm not sure..." He replied before going in to finish his soup.
"Well I guess that knock to the noggin would cloud you up some. Don't worry, I'll help you get better, Mr. Lucky!" Bikini laughed.
"Thank you." Phoenix answered softly.

Gregor was still pondering what to do about Doug when he noticed his new helper had already started walking. Alright, Gregor. Think fast. He hastened to Doug's side. Looks like he's still reflecting. I hate to intrude, but I can't just disappear on him. Reaching into his right pants pocket, he produced a worn scrap of paper, wrote his cellphone number on it, and steeled himself to present it. Hesitantly he tapped Doug on the shoulder. "Doug...would you like to help me find Phoenix or would you prefer I left you alone? I'd understand either way."

He almost jumped in fright, but realised he was standing pretty close to the edge and stopped himself before it was too late. "Greg... do NOT do that again" he said before waiting for a few seconds for his heart to calm down. "Ok, I'm fine now. I think that I'll come with you and find Phoenix; theres a few things I really need to talk with him about."

"Miss?" The on-duty nurse announced her presence with a polite knock before entering. "Just here to see how you're doi..." She trailed off as the utter lack of anyone in the room dawned on her. Furious, she immediately stomped off to another room at the end of the hallway and slammed the door open. Witnessing Dr. Hotti sitting inside, admiring a pair of lacy pink panties he held in his outstretched hands, didn't do anything to improve her mood.

"What did you do to her?" she snapped, as if he knew exactly what she was talking about.

"Hmm?" Hotti answered, as if he had absolutely no idea what she was talking about.

"The girl in room 137! She's gone, and I know you had something to do with it!"

"No, I-" the so-called doctor began.

"This has to be a new record!" the nurse spat, cutting Hotti's feeble defense short. "You do realize we can't pay the bills if you keep chasing all our patients away!"

"Hmm, well, yes, but you see, I'm not-"

The nurse stormed off before Dr. Hotti could finish, leaving him alone once more with his "research."

Phoenix finished his soup and smiled at the woman that was being so nice to him.
"It was good." He told her.
"Glad to hear it!" She laughed. "Now that you're awake, do you want me to call a doctor?" Phoenix rubbed his throbbing head and muttered something along the lines of 'I don't know', but Bikini apparently heard something else entirely.
"I thought that maybe you were running from something, Mr. Lucky!" She said with a sparkle of intrigue in her eyes. "People usually only come up here when they're running, you know. Unless they want a spirit channeled."
"Oh." Phoenix blinked at her curiously.
"Well don't you worry. Whatever you're running from you'll be safe here!" Bikini told him.
"Thank you." Phoenix replied and looked down at the bowl in his hands. It was more of an instinctual response than good favor that made him get up stiffly and take it into the room she'd brought it from. Bikini followed him, but when he found the sink she took the bowl.
"I'll do that." She told him and climbed onto a wooden crate that had been placed in front of the sink for likely this very purpose. "If you want something to do you can dry." She smiled up at him. Phoenix smiled back.

Chris quickly drove through the town, trying to get back in as little time as possible. "Alright, we're nearly there," he said as he started to go on a dirt road that led out of town.

"I hope he's alright..." said Meghan. "Well, I'm sure he is. We have so many people looking for him..."

"You mean, like, three," said Chris.

Phoenix started on the laundry when he was finished washing dishes. After all, it was mostly his laundry, and it was the least he could do for the stranger that took him into her house without any knowledge of who he was. As strange a house as this was...
He looked over the pink sweater he'd been found in. He seemed to have odd taste in clothes. Did he even like pink? And why did the heart have a P in it? At least the red scarf made sense. He checked the elastic of his underwear and hoped to god his name wasn't written on it. Honestly, who would want to discover their name that way? Fortunately, and despite what the sweater suggested, he wasn't enough of a dork to label his undies.
Then again, he didn't really have room to talk, seeing as how he was in what he was pretty sure to be a dress of some kind, complete with some beaded accessory that looked to have half of a yin yang on it. He'd seen a large one of them in the first room, and a pink version to his blue on the woman. Was he in a temple of some kind? He would have to ask when he was finished.

The gradual drop in temperature and shakier ride up the unpaved road roused Iris from her nap. She stifled a yawn and rubbed the sleep from her eyes; apparently she was more exhausted than she'd thought. It was nearly dusk though, and to say the day had been long and stressful would be the understatement of the year. She shivered a bit, rubbing some warmth into her bandaged arms and legs. Her hospital gown and robe didn't offer much insulation on the chilly Eagle Mountain. "Could we head for the temple, please? I'm sure Bikini would help us search..."

"This isn't some sort of weird cult, is it?" Phoenix asked without really thinking about how rude the question was. Bikini didn't seem to take it personally.
"HOHOHO!" She jiggled. "This is a kurian channeling dojo!"
"Oh." That didn't really ease his mind much. "Is there a phone around? I feel like maybe I should be calling somebody."
"There's one outside by the bridge, but who are you going to call?" She wondered.
"Not sure. I was sort of hoping I'd remember when I got there." Phoenix gave her a weak smile.
"You should take the snow mobile. Do you know how to drive one?" Bikini asked. He shrugged.
"Only one way to find out, I guess." He walked out into the snow and immediately realized what a bad idea it was to wear a dress in winter. Bikini hobbled out after him.
"You better let me drive." She said and hopped on. Phoenix got onto the back and as she took off he found himself clinging to her small round body to keep from being flung into the snow.

Chris quickly parked the car outside the bridge, near the Main Hall. "Alright, Iris, we're going to come with you. Is that alright?" He looked out towards the temple, and thought he saw a large vehicle coming for them. "Oh, maybe it's that woman you told us about. I guess we're in luck."

"Iris!" Bikini let go of the left side of the steering in order to wave. This only served to make Phoenix that much more nauseous before they stopped. He weaved a little bit when he got off. "There you are!" Bikini trapped the girl in a hug. "I was worried about you! How did it go?!" Phoenix held his head until the world stopped moving, then walked over to the phone. However, he had no clue who to call when he got there.
