Has anyone detected a hidden meaning in the fact that Dahlia's hair is red and Iris' hair is black? I have a hunch:

Dahlia: Fire--malice
Iris: Ash--regret

Your thoughts?

Yeah that could work.
Also red is the color of the devil and Dahlia looks like she has devil horns at a certain angle.

Generally, red can mean many things...from love, to an oni(which is of red color)...black could mean void or nothing...or was that white? I'm not sure anymore...
One thing's for sure...meanings they are a lot...a real meaning is not exactly found...exactly.

Actually, there are tons of different variations of Satan from a prim, proper, gentlemanly figure (think Dracula) to a horrific, firey beast (think Balrog). I guess it all depends on what you believe.

I always thought Dahlia dyed her hair.

Spoiler:
After all, the rest of her immediate family, the Fey clan, had jet black hair. It's true, her father could have had red hair, but after doing my science homework on chromosomes and genetics it seems unlikely that she is identical to Iris and yet has different coloured hair. If I went into detail to explain I'd probably get banned for profanity. :yuusaku:

But I support the horn theory :chinami:

And I'd describe Iris' hair as ebony. But that's just me.

I don't think its ever stated that they are identical twins. Fraternal twins can look quite similar and are more common than identical twins. I would imagine that Iris dyed her hair red while dating Phoenix, but I do think their hair colors otherwise were natural. Otherwise Dahlia's hair dye soaked into her soul so that she could be a red haired demon when finally defeated at the end of the game. :redd:

Dahlia actually states "My sister and I are absolutely identical. Nobody can tell us apart" or something similar. Regardless, she notably said that they are identical.

Anyway I always thought Iris was the one that dyed her hair. I mean... Dahlia's spirit has red hair... which suggests that's her natural hair colour.

But it's more likely that the hair colour was just for poetic anyway (see: first post etc), so their hair colour is actually the same, but just different in the game for dramatic effect. I mean Phoenix never notices... even when Iris takes off her hood (and you see her hair for the first time) there's no acknowledgement by Phoenix as to the hair colour being different.

In basic appearance of course they are clearly alike and that is what Dahlia was talking about there. "No one can tell us apart" and its true that they look remarkably alike, but that isn't the same as being genetically identical. I have met fraternal twins whom I had difficulty telling apart, but they were not identical twins and had minor physical traits which could be used to tell them apart (in the case of Dahlia and Iris, it would be their hair color). It's not impossible for fraternal twins to look alike, but genetically they are not identical. Besides, why would Iris dye her hair at the temple? It was in a secluded area and they even talk about how for the past few years there hadn't been many visitors. And on top of all that she wore a hood most of the time, so it makes little sense that Iris would go through the trouble of dying her hair black. As for the hair color difference, why would Phoenix note it at that point? In appearance she looks similar to Dahlia, but he knows Dahlia's in jail and clearly didn't now she had a twin, so why would he have bothered to make a note of the hair color difference? He is completely shocked at the end to discover Iris was "Dollie" because they do in fact look different, but Iris dying her hair red during that time would have fixed that problem. After 3-1 happens, Iris would no longer have a reason to continue dying her hair red so she stopped and returned to her life a shrine maiden.

Well, I'd kinda have to go into x-rated stuff to fully explain how identical twins are made, so you'll just have to take my word for it that Dahlia dyes her hair. XD

Perhaps her spirit has red hair because she changed her appearance so long ago it became a part of her? Or maybe your spirit stays the same way you looked when you died. Besides.. it's highly unlikely that you'll have red hair if one of your parents had black hair. It's a long explination and it is possible... just very, very unlikely.

That is true, too. And besides, fraternal twins never look quite so alike; they have a completely different genetic make-up. Different DNA, if you get what I mean, while identical twins are usually alike in all aspects of their appearance, while they can be polar opposite personalities. After all, they were once one set of DNA that split into two.

... re-reading that I realized that I'm being stupid because it's just a game and you can do whatever you want in a game. XD Time for bed.

Fraternal twins don't have completely different sets of DNA. They are as closely related genetically as any siblings, but even some regular siblings can look very similar at times. It can and does happen on occasion (and we do have to make some leeway for the fact that you can only put so much physical variation in sprites without making them look very different).

I think it makes sense to say that Dahlia dyed her hair, not Iris, especially when you take their characters into account (not to mention they're of Asian descent). It's harder to dye black hair a color than the other way around, but it's not impossible. When I was in Japan I ran into a few housewives with purple hair :D

Spoiler:
The reason Phoenix never mentions it might be because he already knew that Dahlia was dying her hair when they were dating. Since Iris was the one "in disguise" during that time, again it makes more sense that she was the one that had to change in order to trick Phoenix. Especially if they were intimate...ahem...Phoenix would know "Dahlia" naturally has black hair, and therefore wouldn't be surprised to see her not in red.
