Another random topic inspired by Holy Hell's thread of Candy Delights - only we're going in the opposite direction! Larry
(Those that go to lileks.com will recognize the thread title!)

Come share your culinary woes! What is the most horrible thing you have ever eaten - and what in the world compelled you to do so?

Just a note of caution: Try not to read this thread if you're eating. April May

My own story of gastric horror:

Sea Urchin Sushi. Jiggly, with the taste of what I imagined raw egg to be, and like a raw egg, it has an oozing, liquid yellow center. I gagged horribly when I ate this, and I had to force massive gulps of tea down my throat to keep everything down. Why did I do it? I ordered it out of curiosity, that and my older brother said he'd give me $5. What a fool I was... Sadshoe

I once heard a story about someone who ordered a chicken. When it was served, there were a couple of feathers on the plate still; the chicken got up for a moment and then collapsed on the plate. Blech.

Speaking of sushi, my mom once got me something called "Mango Fandango". It's basically sushi only with cream cheese in it.

Think about that for a moment.

Cream cheese and raw fish.

...It was pretty damn gross. D:

I was at Anthony's with my best friend. I ordered a tempura plate and on the side there was a piece of celery with coleslaw in it. I tried it at it literally tasted like perfume. It was HORRIBLE. Then I made my friend eat it. Because I'm so nice. XD;

Canned oysters. YUCK! Tasted like rubber and slimy.

I was at a friend of my family's place with my Dad one New Year's (I was 16) and they had some canned oysters on a plate. I was curious so I asked the host how you ate them and he said, "Pick one up, close your eyes, open your mouth and pop it in" so I proceeded to do just that..and everyone laughed at the expression on my face afterwards. Haven't touched another one since.

How about popcorn?
But with pepper, chocolate, salt, ketchup, mustard and a special sauce sold here called Sazon.
How I hate my friends some times D: I still can't believe they actually ate it, just tasting was enough to me to get traumatized for my whole life.

Well, it's very sweet and creamy, like custard cream. It's only its smell that shuns people away.
For those who can't stand its smell, try durian chips (well, not sure if you can find it outside Thailand though). The smell is toned down to almost non-existent, but it still retains its creamy and tenderly sweet tastes.

For me? Hmm... I'm quite picky and not so adventurous when it comes down to food. So I'd say I haven't eaten anything that regrettable enough to be posted here.

What about canned durian, if its out there? Or even like...pre packaged or whatever. Does it taste just as good?

Huh? Canned durian!? Eh? Never heard of it before, and I don't think it can be canned since its meat has a soft cream-like texture not suitable to be canned.
Anyway, if you can find one there, you're welcome to try. But I'd say it'll be inferior to those selling in the markets in Southeast Asia.

I've had dog biscuits that were pretty tasty. My mom got these kinds that were pretty much just wheat and water. Like a cracker. The dog didn't like them, so I ate them instead Yanni Yogi

Okay...gross food...

Once I melted muenster cheese in a potato, and it kind of congealed into this mass of gooey, stringy cheese, that was pretty gross. Though muenster cheese isn't that bad itself.

One time I got a text from some stranger saying: "Sammy got diarrhea last night. I think it was the chicken."
To which I replied: "Are you sure it was the chicken and nothing else?"
This guy says: "Yeah the chicken smelled pretty bad."

I asked him if Sammy got salmonella, and I never got a response back. I was sad since I didn't to get to play along with this guy anymore.

Beef or other red meat. My mother gave me just a small bite, but I just couldn't chew it without my throat constrickting... so, technically, I couldn't eat it in the first place.

Some noodles that my mother's then-boyfriend made some time before his varices (hope I spelled that right) burst and he ended in the hospital. I dunno, they just tasted like cooked ham.

Sometimes, some of the Big Macs I eat have this really weird taste to them... although I think it's in the sauce at that point. Just a really weird taste, can't really describe it.

Oh and blue potatoes, although I never even attempted to eat them.
My mother made them and, unpeeled, they looked like giant rabbit droppings and, peeled, they looked like giant, edible bruises... I just couldn't get myself to even try them.

Actually, what I remember from eating dry cat food, it tasted rather normal

Eww... That sounds appealing. So does the idea of eating cat food. It's mindbottling that there are people out there able to eat pet food willingly.

Hey! I was gonna revive this topic!

Years ago when I was at a family party at my Uncle's house, I was bored and walking around. And on the dinner table there was a giant pig's head on the table that freaked me out. x_x

And to add to what Cat said...One of the reasons why I refuse to eat at McDonalds is I remember eating some weird tasting burgers in the past. *shivers*

I was pretty young then... before my parents separated and divorced, so I was somewhere under the age of 7. And it was only one time, then I gave up on it. Now canned cat food... no, I wouldn't even try that.
