I just finished the first trial and I must say....it blew me away. I can't believe how good the game go so fast. When Phoenix first mentioned who was the only person who thought the cards were blue all I could do was crick my neck slowly to the person standing next to me and exclaim WHAT!?!?!?! HIM!?!

It was epic when Gavin stepped down and Phoenix joined you at the defense stand. Two main characters together. Just like in GS3 when they played the original GS music during one of the final objections, hearing Phoenix give out an objection with some classic music was stirring.

I don't know yet, but from what I've heard I don't believe Phoenix will ever be an attorney again which is too bad. I really want him to become a lawyer again, he's so good at it. I was in awe at how awesome he was at the bench.

Furthermore I would like to make 2 comments:
1. I don't think Miyuki is Phoenix's real daughter, she's too old. (this of course is a comment being made whilst ignorant of the rest of the game)
2. I feel bad for any 'mentor' character that appears if a third GS main character is introduced. It seems the GS series likes to do dramatic things with these characters to pave the way for the main character to set out on his own. If I had realized this trend sooner I would have looked at Gavin and said to myself "I don't know how or why, but wouldn't wanna be you right now."

(it also explains why Gavin quotes mostly came from the first case)

Ah man, tell me about it. About fourty minutes into the game, I was already thinking that this was an excellent, excellent game. I really wasn't expecting it to be so good, but come ON. I did NOT see Kristoph being the murderer coming at ALL, and it kind of blew me away. Having Phoenix be your defense aide, and the way he objected... it was just amazing. It really feels like a continuation of the series; something I was not expecting. Also,
Spoiler: 4-2
When you see Hotti, and the stacks of Samurai DVDs, along with the fact that Apollo is already working at the Wright & Co Law Offices Talent Agency is just cool. I really feel a connection to Phoenix, and this just spurs me to wanting to know what exactly happened seven years ago.
I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting this game to be as good as any of the others - but Apollo Justice has already proven his worth to me. 4-1 was probably the best opening case in the series.

Also, Orly = badass adorable pirate. :godot:

I think this is the first time this has happened: In the first case, someone other than the sole witness is the true culprit. I was hoping they'd finally do this eventually, but I never expected Kristoph to be the real culprit...

I do like his damage animation though. He acts like he's taken a hard hit and he just flicks his hair and makes a cool recovery.

Yes I was quite surprised that the case dragged on. I think the creators knew that fans expected the same ol' same ol' first trail, so they mixed it up a bit. I really thought the whole naruhobo thing was a cheap way to get him out of the picture and make way for a new main character. But I must say they're working it in might well, and even thought you get a "oh how the mighty have fallen" feeling. He's still there by you, so you can at least feel his precense and benefit a bit from his wisdom.

This is really by far the best first Ace Attorney case. I was so excited while playing it that I couldn't wait to finish it just so I could post here about it. Yesss....I'm special.

The Perceive System scared me. It did. I mean, It makes this weird creepy thumpy noise as the colors invert, like a heartbeat, and then you see a closeup of Apollo's eye, (it could also be his bracelet) and it's all red. Brrrrrr.

PW taught me the way of the Psyche-Lock, and seeing people's hearts and secrets. AJ teaches me body language and how the subconscious betrays the unwary.

I also wasn't expecting
Spoiler: end of the first case
the falsified evidence. Nice going, Feenie.

I can't blame on him though...He had lost too much because of this seven years ago. Sorry, poor Polly :odoroki:

Yea the whole perception system was so creepy. The weird black and purple swirl and then that giant eye over the witness. Really wasn't expecting that, and since it was something new I didn't really know exactly what to do with the information I had gathered.

They mentioned what would cause her to be nervous, and the obvious answer was the bottle, but I wasn't sure because of all the extra attention they gave it. But it turned out to be the bottle after all.

Hrm. I actually thought it was the most boring of all of the first cases. It started out pretty good ("drift gotten, sir!") but then got a bit boring later in. Then again, I really wanted to finish it because I wanted to see some of the characters in 4-2, so that might explain it.

Though I do like how they subverted the "maximum two witnesses, and the witness that ISN'T the defendant is the guilty party" cliché. I was really expecting Orly to be the culprit. I knew going in that Kristoph was evil, but I thought that that wouldn't be revealed until a later case. Looks like I didn't get spoiled as much as I thought.

Apollo's "Take That" annoys me, though.

Now I'm on case two. I'm really loving Trucy...

Just finished playing through this case, and I have to agree that it is certainly the best tutorial case in the series so far. That said, even Phoenix didn't get his ass dragged out of the fire as much on his first trial as Apollo did. Still, he was dealing with two professionals. Frank Sahwit had nothing on Kristoph.

Speaking of Kristoph, holy hell, that came right out of the blue. I figured something would happen that would take him out of the picture and make Apollo go out on his own, but I can't honestly say I saw this one coming. Just after playing this case, I can see loads of promise in the Apollo Justice saga.

Also, Phoenix assisting Apollo = Fucking epic.

Epic indeed.

I love how Winston's role was basically phased out by the end. You sorta forgot he was even there. ha HA! :payne:

From the first time is saw the picture of Phoenix talking to Smith there was one thin screaming in my mind.
Spoiler: Yes it's a dreaded spoiler!
"The fingerprints are upside down because the bottle was on the floor next to him!"

And Olga Orly was awesome! I wasn't expecting her to change like that! And the damage animation with the catching the food was awesome!
And the 3D crime recreation stuff was great! It really helped with figuring stuff out.
I just started on the second case. Don't forget to check the plant in the Wright and Co office! It's the return of Charlie!

Eehehehe, it's so much fun to read impressions of people playing this case for the first time XDD

I adore 4-1. What a way to kick off a game! Even on my first playthrough I'd already been spoiled, but I still love the tension throughout the case. Kristoph gradually losing his composure was awesome. And punching! Fantastic.

The part that gets me every time is when Phoenix tells Apollo to present the bottle, and he hesitates, thinking there's no way there'll be prints on it. Then Phoenix suddenly loses his patience a little and gives him that glare. JUST DO IT, APOLLO!!! The first time through I literally jumped a little. Don't be mad at me Phoenix...!! ;_;

Spoiler: 4-2
And then the game goes straight from DRAMALLAMA to... Panty Thievery. Awesome XD

That was amazing! I'd gotten kinda attached to Kristoph, although I knew he did something bad at some point in the game, but I thought that would be later, and I was so convinced Olga was the murderer because there's spoiler art of her in the official art, and plus she was the witness and she lied a lot... but then Kristoph started looking progressively more suspicious, especially when that creepy music started playing and he'd do the shiny glasses thing... "HE TOTALLY DID IT LOOK HE'S ALL CREEPY AND STUFF MOM THIS GUY'S SCARING ME" (seriously, he did scare me!) and then his breakdown... THAT WAS MADE OF SO MUCH FREAKING WIN! He started earthquaking the courtroom, and then I got my sister to watch with me. "LOOK HE'S ABOUT TO DO SOMETHING... THAT WAS SO COOL I CAN'T BELIEVE HE JUST DID THAT AND THIS IS ONLY THE FIRST CASE!"

I'm on 4-2 now, first trial day. Wocky is hilarious!

Spoiler: 4-2
But he's got me worried, with that bullet in his chest that could kill him anytime... I really hope he's gonna be okay... not only is he so adorable and funny, he's also too young to die! :larry:

It's late at night, and this game's getting pretty scary... had to put it down for a bit and take a breather, in fact... but I love it! And the Perceive system in itself is scary because I can imagine Apollo overusing it or something and then getting stuck in it... O_O

Oh man, that was one of my favorite parts of the case. I think I love Nick more as a hobo than as an attorney.

This was, indeed, the best first trial I've played through. It'll be ridiculously hard to top in GS5.

I'm already midway in the second case (during the first day of trial, after the recess), and I have to say, this game's had me on my toes ever since I picked it up, like none of the three previous ones did. Indeed, as someone said out there, it'll be ridiculously hard to top in Ace Attorney 5. =p

There's just one thing I can't figure out in the second case.
Spoiler: 4-2 spoilerishness
Trucy said we should go see Phoenix after the whole car/headlight thing. But when I go to the hospital he's not there. I can't think of what to do next! :beef: It's maddening!

Edit: Dur!
Spoiler:
I didn't examine the police car!

The first case is easily the best among the first cases in the series (and amazingly enough beats a couple of the later cases in the previous three games which is incredible). I spoiled myself for this game and the case still felt suspenseful. There was this feeling of almost being trapped in the middle when things really got moving which left me with this "oh crap" reaction which was rather similar to the one Apollo had. Kristoph's breakdown was fantastic and Phoenix is just so awesome. I love Apollo's character, by the way. :)

I too had been spoiled that Kristoph was evil, but I thought for sure that had to be the major twist in a later case. Therefore, I was as shocked as anyone when suddenly it became clear that he was the one who had killed Shadi. Wow! This case removed whatever doubts I may still have held about this game.

Making A hugely zoomed art for each sprite on the percieve system mustve been a nightmare.
Kristoph reminds me a little too much of DBZ. I mean, first, when he desk slammed, and the lobster floated.
second,
Spoiler: 4th case
on the final case when he finally breaks.

I made this comment in another post, but I must say as awesome as 4 is so far, I'm not feeling a lot of oompf to Apollo. I mean although its humorous the game has made light of almost every one of his epic objections so far.
Furthermore he seems like he's receiving even more support than phoenix did in the first games. I feel like Edgeworth was a better prosecturo than Gavin. I enjoyed arguing with Edgey and wiping that smirk off his face, but with Gavin he just seems to roll with it and even help you. Booo, I get no joy from winning in that situation.

Even in the first trial its more like Phoenix is running the show rather than you.

(Btw so far I find Alita's character design to be the most uninspired GS character to date. She was just...so boring. Stuck up lady with wings on her chest...hmm)

Really? Alita's become one of my favorite characters.

This first case rocked so hard. Even though I'd been spoiled. the best line was:

:garyuu: :He's lying. Expose him. Now.

I loved it when Kristoph and Feenie had their little bitch fights in the courtroom. I hated Phoenix's standing next to you sprite, though...it just seemed...off.
