Mia being led around by the nose...! I love it! Usually, she's the one doing the leading around, so I really enjoyed watching Gregory Edgeworth be cryptic with her. It looks like Wick is a pretty dedicated and nervy fellow underneath that sunny exterior. He'll be interesting to watch. Monty...hmm...I'll have to see what he's about. Once again, nice work.

I notice I have two requests for my character comparison rant. It is my pleasure to oblige. In some ways, Phoenix seems almost better for the position of von Karma protégé than Miles. He seems made of more similar material. Phoenix has that rock hard determination that seems to make a von Karma. Miles...not so much. For some reason I've always perceived him as fluid--corrosive, but still fluid. He's always flowing--dodging and then seeping in where you least expect it and/or it hurts the most. He reminds me of acid--frustratingly hard to contain and more one to enfeeble his opponents than break them outright. I see him as more of a subversive than a tyrant. Phoenix may not have tyrannical tendencies, but he's quite capable of being painfully self-righteous--a sort of incorrigible crusader for the wrong ideas. Hence the mix of fire and stone. ...! Fire and brimstone! :haha: Puns aside, I think Acro was onto something in 2-3: he's quite similar to Franziska in terms of basic components. They're inverses of each other, after a fashion. They both possess righteous and determined qualities, but in reversed proportions. Franziska is more determination than righteousnesss. Phoenix is more righteousness than determination. Both can be quite stubborn. Am I making sense?

I'm following you. This was sort of what I had in mind when I started to think out evil Nick. You just described him beautifully. I've yet to really think on his relationship with Franny. I'd imagine she doesn't view him as a brother like she did Miles. Phoenix wasn't in her life nearly as long, in fact, it's only been a few years. I'll have to consult the timeline to determine just how many. *pops off to do that* Lessee here....2013-2016....three years. Making SL-9 his first case unless I decide to conjure some up myself.

As for Wick and Monty, they're both fun people to write. Monty has, as Miles put it, a twisted set of morals. And Gregory's warning to not take chocolate from the man was good advice.
Wick is very excitable. He's not been on the police force long and he's already been promoted to detective. I laid it on a little thick in the beginning with him because I wanted to show how much he loved his job. I'll likely be using Wick for other custom cases that Gumshoe isn't involved with.

I realize this is an odd story to get into. So I've found some things to help set the mood.

Yeah, not really a mood setter, but definitely fitting.

And for anyone wondering the song in the vid is called Hito Toshite Jiku ga Bureteiru (As a Human My Axis is Blurred) and the lyrics are as follows.

Bure bure bure bure
Twisted Twisted Twisted Twisted
Bure bure bure bure
Twisted Twisted Twisted Twisted
Bure bure bure bure
Twisted Twisted Twisted Twisted
Bure bure bure bure
Twisted Twisted Twisted Twisted

Shinya Ore-ha terebi-wo mite ita
I watched TV late at night
Yaru koto-mo nai bou-to mite ita
Had nothing to do so I just sat and stared
Zappingu, seikoushya homerarete ita
Zapping, over acheivers got all the praise
(Ano hito-ha jiku-ga furete nai suteki)
(That person isn't twisted, how lovely)

Wakatta-ze mukuware-nu sono wake
Now I know why I'm never rewarded
Hito toshite Ore, jiku-ga bureten da
Because I'm a damn twisted person

Sore naraba inaore! Mou
Well in that case straighten up! just
Bure bure bure bure bure makutte
twist twist twist twist twist away
Furueteru-no wakannee youni shiteyare!
I'm trembling just make it all go away!

Zureru-ze! Mou bure bure ningen demo kitto
Slipping away! I'm sure a twisted twisted human still has hope.
Kimi-ga itara kawaru
As long as you're here I can change

(Atashi-ga iru-yo, kidzuite)
(You just need to realize that I'm right here.)

Instead of writing I have put together a the alternate timeline for MF! HUZZAH!

2001 - Phoenix is accused by his class of stealing Miles' lunch money. Gregory Edgeworth is shot in an elevator and in a coma for two weeks. Manfred von Karma takes a vacation.

2002 - Karma returns from his "vacation." Gregory Edgeworth decides to travel abroad with his son.

2004 - Miles stops getting letters from Phoenix.

2007 - Dahlia steals a sapphire from her father and is presumed dead, Terry is arrested and convicted for her murder.

2011 - Miles and Gregory return to the states. Miles passes his bar. Edgeworth and Son law offices is started.

2012 - Diego Armando poisoned. Phoenix meets Dahlia. Mia Fey spends time under Gregory Edgeworth while Grossberg has surgery.

2013 - Miles and Gregory go to London on business. Phoenix is accused of murder and Mia Fey is his defense. Phoenix disappears.

2015 - Phoenix returns as the prosecution for SL-9, but disappears on the day the guilty verdict is announced.

2016 - Gregory and Miles return from London. Gregory announces his retirement and moves to Hawaii. Miles defends Larry Butz in court. Miles is accused of abusing his alleged wife and it is taken to court. Mia Fey is his defense. Phoenix Wright returns as the prosecution.

Oh, yay timeline!

2001 - Almost the same as the original timeline.
2002 - Intresting.
2004 - The suspense is building.
2007 - Hm... Same as the original timeline.
2011 - Here we go into Muto Fati realm...
2012 - I hope Dahlia rubs some of her evil stuff onto Phoenix... And I don't think he'll be a romantic berk this time around. Nice to know Mia worked under Gregory.
2013 - What kind of business? :hotti: Seriously, we get State Vs Wright, and hopefully it's with a cooler defendant. And I wonder where Feenie goes off to... Methinks he meets a certain old man *cough*
2015 - What is he, Houndini?
2016 - Present.

We don't get to see what shoved Phoenix out of happy land this time D= And I hope Phoenix is a better prosecutor/slave driver then Edgey/Franziska. Hello, your being shown evidence? You know, it's sorta illegal to let him walk around with perhaps vital evidence?

2001 - Yes, it is. Things haven't really switched in the fate department just yet.
2002 - Methinks someone is running from something, na ne?
2004 - I haven't entirely figured out why this is just yet.
2007 - I only included this because it was relevant.
2011 - The first part of the big shift. Miles becomes a defense attorney like his dad.
2012 - She doesn't actually. He's just as much of a whipped hopeless puppy as he was in the game. Phoenix hasn't changed just yet.
2013 - Lawyer business. Gregory gets called in to help a friend of theirs when they were staying in London. Nothing really spectacular happens, I just needed a reason for Nick and Miles to not make contact yet. Nope, no cooler defendant. He still eats the evidence and everything. There's actually more to the timeline that details more of what Nick did during the next year or so. I didn't include it because that would be spoilerish to the story.
2015 - Yes.
2016 - And accounted for.

EDIT: Phoenix is not going to make anyones job easier in the investigation department. Then again, Miles isn't the sort to go running around the crime scene collecting evidence either. He's more than content to read over the list and figure out what happened in his head. This method, I believe, may end up biting him in the ass when Phoenix whips out his usual 'oh yeah, there was this thing too that I forgot to mention earlier, whoops' tricks.

Yes, great frustration indeed.

EDIT: For those of you who might have noticed I've been going through old submissions and spiffying them up. No change in story, just making it read a bit smoother is all.

Also, I'm half way through part five. Yay!

Muto means exchanged. So the title in English might read Exchanged Fate. The Latin sounds cooler.

Excellent work! I guess that from Miles' reaction he's not the type to be trying to save his friend from himself like Phoenix was in the original game, but he may be beyond saving by this point anyway. Who knew Phoenix would make such a great villain? I can't wait for more!

I guess I'm just a little suprised that
Spoiler: Part 5
the prosecutor's office would accept someone who was a known killer.

Spoiler: 4-1
Before I played Apollo Justice, that last comment would have read "I can't believe Phoenix could lose it so badly that he'd actually kill Dahlia," but after that bullshit he pulls with the forged ace, nothing Phoenix could do would suprise me anymore. :yuusaku:

Speaking of which, there's one part I'm a little confused about...
Spoiler: Part 5
Why would Dahlia fake her death (again) and try to frame Phoenix for it? The poison necklace was already destroyed, she was found not guilty of killing Doug, and by Nick's own admission, he bought the story she fed him about not trying to poison him.

Ah thanks! And, no, Miles will not be trying to bring Nick back to the light. As far as he's concerned the man is dead. If there is any sort of redemption later on it won't be by Miles' hands that's for sure.

Spoiler: Some answers for Fran
Nick's innocent of that. According to the court of law that is.

Well, this is an AU. Canon Nick might not have killed her if the situation had been the same, but in my mind it was a crime of passion. He was angry, and killing her could have just as easily been an accident or maybe even an stretched truth.

You honestly think Dahlia would stop committing crimes just because she freed herself from the first ones? If anything I think that'd make me more confident in my abilities to not get caught, don't you?

Chapter requests, eh? Well that was part of the plan. This story is about how different things would be if roles were reversed, after all. I also wanted to get in some custom cases and whatnot too. Like the one going on now. To keep people from getting bored. :gant:

So I'm playing AJ, and the idea came to me about how the AU would work in it. Then I got this image of Prosecutor Apollo.

Apollo: GOTCHA! This man is clearly guilty!
Judge: Why's that?
Apollo: My magical bracelet tells me so!
Judge: Good enough for me! GUILTY!

You mean if the brothers switched sides instead? Well that would be interesting. There wouldn't be a Prosecutor Justice, but we would have the rock god of defense! The knight in shining armor, if you will. Though the biggest thing to think about would be what would happen to Trucy with Edgeworth for a daddy.

I mentioned the graying at the temple in the story, didn't I? *goes to check* I did, but I can see how that'd slip a persons mind. I didn't really bring it up again after that. Not that it matters much, its his eyes and expressions that I wanted people to notice the most. A little bit of gray hair doesn't mean much, really. I only really did it because I'd noticed that being a prosecutor seemed to have caused Miles to gray early as well. Why would Evil Nicky be immune to the effects of stress, eh?
