'KAY. SO. IF YOU WERE EXPECTING THE CREEPY SPANISH ONE, LEAVE NOW. 'KBYE.

Anyway. This is a topic for the David Bowie Labyrinth. I loved this movie when I was little, but I could never remember what it was called. Then a few months ago I saw the first volume of the godawful 'Return to Labyrinth' manga and I was all "Hey... this looks familiar... OHWAIT. O:"

And from their, my love just sort of returned in one big Jarethy ball of awesome.

How 'bout you guys? Any fond childhood memories?

Return to Labyrinth isn't completely awful, the 2nd volume started to pile on the epic plot twists. Whats sad is the cover art is beautiful, and thats all we saw as a preview before the manga itself came out.... which has the crappiest art I've seen in quite awhile :P Good story, awful art though XPP

I acctualy have never watched the movie. My friend let me borrow it, and I never got around to watching it and because she loves it so much I had to give it back, I'll put it on Netflix, so it'll come to dial-up land and I can watch it there one weekend.

I'm surprised I had never seen this movie as I kid, though except for cartoons I don't think I saw a lot of movies like that, I'm sure if my grandma knew about it she thought it was evil :P I was in 4th grade before I ever got to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas, my mom finally borrowed it for someone. I made my grandma watch it when it came on TV and she refuses to admit that she used to say it looked like it was an evil satanic show =P

So yeah, there was probably some reason that I didn't watch that movie, because it looks like it was too epic for me to have NOT seen it :P

I know. I was sucked in by the beautiful cover art too. They should put on a warning. And the second volume is better? Well. If I see it I'll grab it. I just noticed the first one at my school library.

And you really should try and catch the movie. It's... really corny, actually. Within the first ten minutes or so, you get to hear the corniest line in the movie. Although, I can't quite remember what it was. Grr.

Wow, talk about a blast from the past! I remember this movie all too well. It was my favorite movie when I was a kid. Maybe the movie is the reason i like David Bowie's music a little... hmm... Anyway, i had never heard of any manga sequel to this movie or anything remotely similar, but I'll have to check it out. But first, I must kick Hoggle into the bog of eternal stench, excuse me...

David Bowie offered to be her slave. SHE TURNED HIM DOWN. Sarah needs a foot up her ass.

...Did I say any of that out loud? I LOVE the Labyrinth! I've been a fan of David Bowie about as long as I've been alive, since my parents and siblings like him too (although Doylie's family beats mine on that front 0_o), and when I first saw the Labyrinth, I was totally sucked in by the music and story and Jaaaaareeeeeeeeth... *Drool* What a wonderfully made movie! There's lots of love and attention to detail put into it, plus tons of cool characters.

Interestingly enough, Sarah kept FORGETTING the words "You have no power over me" when reciting an excerpt from the supposed novel of the same name as the movie. She can remember every other line EXCEPT the one that's most important. I wonder why...

Also, that dog guarding the bridge over the bog of eternal stench was interesting... "What are you talking about? The air is sweet and fragrant! And you are not crossing the bridge without MY... permission!"

"May we have your permission"

"Oh! Ermmm... yes...?"

I vaguely remember it. I can't remember any of the characters names though. I remember the troll O_o
And what he did at the beginning, in the pond. XD
The smelly swamp place, those birds (?) that could take their heads off & take their eyes out...?

Am I remembering correctly? :s

I remember that! That's one of my favourite scenes in the film. Cool song as well. :D I think I used to find it scarier when I was younger though. That one taking out it's eyes still looks kinda eww. XD
Lol, they're not birds, I just remembered the fluffiness & pinkness ^_^;

Sorry for saying "remember" so much in my posts. XD

Guess I was a bit late to the party, then? I actually didn't see it until I was 14 or so (my mom says I saw it when I was little, but I don't remember :payne: ); I didn't even know who David Bowie was. Now he's my #1 favorite singer (along with someone else I don't feel like mentioning right now). And Jareth = <3. Also, this thread needs pictures.

I've never seen this movie before, but I get to see it this weekend. I'm kind of excited, since it's supposed to be a cult classic! I really know nothing about it..!

I absolutely LOVE Labyrinth, it's one of the few movies I ever watch. I saw it when I was tiny, and just loved it, which is a bit odd cause I could never explain why... :yuusaku:
None the less, I got the soundtrack, I had a doll of Sir Didymus (which I've since lost. :larry: ) , and have the DVD as of Last week. Yaay.

Woah, woah, waoh! Back up! They came out with a Sir Didymus doll!? That is quite intriguing...

Anyway, for those who haven't seen the movie, here's the trailer, showing mere bits and pieces.

Oh man! I want a Sir Didymus doll!

That would be epic!

And Ludo. I want Ludo, too.

I saw the Jareth figure in a gaming store, right next to the Master Chief helmet. I wanted it. >:

We should just rename this thread as a David Bowie = <3 since Mo already did a Labyrinth topic. (Unless Mo started a David Bowie thread, too. XDDD) Either way...

Damn, now I'm on a Bowie kick. *Tosses on Earthling while she works on stuff*

I really appreciate all the care and detail that were put into the sets. I love the tunnel with all the hands in it. XD

This is the scene in Labyrinth that got me hooked to Bowie's music...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zvs5XtL2hi8

EDIT: However, I think the audio was played at a slightly higher pitch than normal...

EDIT2: Found the proper version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQaNfeBooH4

hear the difference in quality?

Funny thing is, I didn't even realize he was primarily a singer until I got home and started jabbering to my mom about it. Eheh. Yeeeeeah. :payne: Yeah, not so funny.

Oh god with the Escher painting..

I loved this movie so much growing up. It came out around the time I was a kid, and my mom obsessed with it as well as I. Even now I get goosebumps thinking about that movie..

I was absolutely SHOCKED by the fact that Colin's mother HATED the movie! In fact she hated it so much, she refused to let any of her kids see it, and he didn't see the movie until last year when I FORCED him to.

Nightmare before x-mas, I remember when it was in theaters and my mom didn't let us see it because people at her work were telling her how it wasn't appropriate for kids (I was a young teenager, and she still wouldn't let me see it haha). Finally, it came to video and she rented it, and it instantly became another of her favorite movies of all time (and mine as well).

Watch movies you want to watch, despite others telling you not to. You may actually see a classic.

This movie defines the childhood of my sblings and I.

I'm not a huge Bowie fan myself (I do enjoy his music), but his hardcore fans are certainly a fun crowd to hang out with. They may be succeeding in converting me, because I suddenly like to quote his music.

"I move the stars for no one!"

Yeah.
